Nikon D7100 NEF support

Currently I have CS5 and have to use a conversion program to convert the NEF files from a Nikon D7100 to a DNG file. Does Photoshpo CC already support D7100 NEF files?
Thanks

There's an Adobe page that definitively identifies what versions go with what versions of Camera Raw:
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Note that each version of Photoshop is compatible with a specific set of versions of Camera Raw.  For example, Photoshop CS5 used only Camera Raw 6.x, while Photoshop CS6 used Camera Raw 7.x, and CC uses 8.x.

The Nikon Transfer that came with your camera should be ok, but if you’re using an older one, then it can change things in the raw files’ metadata that makes them unrecognizable to Adobe software.
There is a utility for fixing any NEFs corrupted by Nikon Transfer:

  • CS5 using Nikon D7100 no support for NEF

I have CS5 but just upgrade my camera to a Nikon D7100 and found out that CS5 doesn't support the 7100's NEF files. I've tried the DNG download, but can't figure out how to make it work. Would prefer to buy upgrade from CS5 to CS6, but options confusing. There is an upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 for $178. Will it allow my camera nef files to work without screwing up my plug-ins?

That upgrade is $199 on Adobe site. Be careful there Adobe will try to direct you to the cloud by default. Here is a screen capture. Be sure to use the pull-down to select upgrade for the $199 price and click the correct link to buy.

  • Elements 9 and Nikon D7100 NEF (RAW) problem

I'm running elements 9 and have upgraded to a Nikon D7100 when I try and open a NEF (RAW) file it gives me an error message saying file type not recognised. This used to work fine with my D90, does this mean elements 9 will not support a Nikon D7100

Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. You may need to consider buying PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Nikon D7100 needs support

Dear Adobe, if you are working night and day 24/7 to add support for Nikon D7100 please ignore this message and get back to work. On the other hand if the effort is not 100%, 24/7, please drop everything else and have a corporation wide concentration on this project.
    Thank You

    > Dear Mark, please ask Nikon to support the open DNG raw format in firmware updates and new cameras.
give me a break... replace "71" w/ "52" (to have 24mp, Adobe apparently reads raw file dimensions in sensels not from NEF itself) in NEF using any hex editor - just 2 bytes and existing ACR will perfectly work w/ NEF... there is nothing except camera profiling and testing required really... and average Joe will not find a difference after such operation.

  • How do i open nikon D7100 nef files in pse10

I cant open my NEF/RAW files for the Nikon D7100 on Photoshop Elements 10 is there a way to do this

Your version of Photoshop Elements will not open D7100 images directly. Support wasn't added until Photoshop Elements 11 in Camera Raw 7.4.
Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras whenever they released a new major version of Photoshop Elements. Thus, the version you have is no longer receiving raw file compatibility updates and will never directly be able to open your raw files.
    You can check this yourself:
First you need to determine when Adobe released support for your new camera in Photoshop Elements.  To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop Elements can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Since your version of Photoshop Elements cannot support your camera directly, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter DOES work, and you will be able to open the converted DNG files with your version of Photoshop Elements, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop Elements.  Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Difficulties Editing Nikon D7100 NEF Files In PE10.

I recently purchased a Nikon D7100 and uploaded NEF files for editing.  Unfortunately I am experiencing difficulties with them and cannot.  Format will not open in PE10.  Is anyone else experiencing the same?  Does anyone know of a fix?

If this is a brand new camera files than I am afraid the only way to edit them are as follows:
    1) Buy PSE12 if you can afford;
    2) Use the software that came with your camera to export the files so that PSE can understand them;
    3) Use Adobe's DNG converter from this link:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5694&fileID=5707>

  • Nikon D7100 NEF Issues with APE11

I have a Nikon D7100 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.  The problem is, the software doesn't recognize NEF files.  Doing some research, I downloaded the DNG converter but it doesn't recognize NEF files.  I tried updating the PSE11 software but I keep getting a "The update server is not responding......" "Error Code U41M1C212.  I looked for updates for the Camera Raw version.  My software has version 7.1. Aparently I need at least version 7.4 and that there is 8.0 or better available.  I can't find any version above 7.1.  I have no idea where it is.  I'm thinking this is likely an easy fix and that I'm simply missing the obvious.  I also have no idea why the DNG converter doesn't recognize the files as well.
I bought APE11 so I could work with RAW files.  One mistake I made was that I never used RAW files when I had the trial version.  I always used the JPEG files.

    Hi,
For the D7100 you do indeed need ACR 7.4.
Hopefully the advice given by R_Kelly above should help you to update your PSE 11.
If you have downloaded/installed the latest DNG 8,1 converter, then that should recognize the NEF files. If not, please check that you are not using old Nikon software to import the images - this is known to cause the problem.
Otherwise, the DNG works on folders - you should point it to the folder containing the images not a file.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Nikon D5000 NEF Support

    Hello,
The current version of Camera Raw (5.3) does not support the Nikon D5000 NEF format. When can I expect support for this camera to be released? If you need a few NEF files to help in getting this done, let me know and I'll be happy to send you a few.
Until then, I'm using Capture NX 2 instead of Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.

    Hi Tom,

  • Elements 9 won't open Nikon D7100 NEF files

I recently upgraded from a Nikon 7000 to a Nikon D7100 DSLR camera.  Historically I was able to open and process NEF files in Photoshop Elements 9 from my D7000.  But now it will not open those files.  I clicked on the Help/Update link and it says my version is fully updated.  What do I have to do to be able to open these NEF files as I did before with those files from my D7000?
    Thanks...RDK

Support for the D7100 was added to ACR 7.4 so you'll need PSE11 or later to open them directly. You can either use the Nikon software to convert them or the free Adobe DNG converter to convert them to DNG files that PSE9 can open.

  • Is there going to be Nikon d7100 Raw Support on Snow Leopard?

Hi, i just bought a Nikon d7100 and I realized that I cannot see RAW files in Aperture when running Snow Leopard
OK, i understand that I can upgrade to Mountain Lion to solve the problem by using the RAW support released a few months ago or use other s/w than Aperture but I would rather not.
So, does anyone know if Apple has plans to support the camera to be used in Aperture on Snow Leopard?

Very doubtful there will be anymore support updates for Snow Leopard v10.6.8, security update possibly.
If you are thinking of upgrading to Mountain Lion, make sure Mac meets the requiremetns Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

  • Nikon D7100 Raw Support

When will the Lightroom update for the Nikon D7100 become available?

This is a user-to-user forum. Standard answer is those who know aren't allowed to say and those who say, probably don't know.
That type of information is not generally released in advance by Adobe. They have been rather tight-lipped on future support release dates in the past. The Lightroom FB page hints it is coming soon. How long till soon?

  • Nikon D700 NEF Support

    Hi,
We have some of the New Nikon D700's that will be going out into the field possibly as soon as next week. Any idea on when you will be releasing NEF support for ACR and LightRoom?
    Thank you!

    Adam JR,
In my opinion, you still are not thinking clearly. Yes, you have the latest and greatest (in your opinion) camera. But until you have software available to support that camera you're just going to have to wait like everyone else does who buys something the minute it hits the marketplace. You have to wait for software support. Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and all the other camera makers couldn't care less about Adobe and Camera Raw support. They don't provide Adobe with any advance copies of their file formats.
Since Adobe is still working on providing support for your new camera, you're just going to have to wait. You want it right when it comes out don't you? Do you think Adobe is just sitting on their hands so they can watch you and others complain because they don't have support? Cool it! Support will be provided when the development team is satisfied they can provide it the way it should be provided.

Can PSE 9.0.3 be updated to read Nikon D600 NEF files?

In a word, no. You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)

  • Hobbyfotograf - welches Programm zur Bearbeitung von RAW-Dateien einer Nikon D7100 (.NEF)?

    Hallo,
Schon einmal vielen Dank in vorraus
    Gruß
    Cartoc
