Nikon D800 Not Detected for Tethering - LR 5.3 - Windows 7 / 8.1

Win 7 Machine: Homebuilt, Lightroom 5.3, all drivers and windows updates up to date.
Win 8.1 Machine: Dell XPS 15 (2013 High Res Touchscreen edition). Lightroom 5.3, all windows updates applied. Drivers up to date.
Camera firmware up to date as of Jan 2014. (A, B and L all at latest versions).
On the Win7 Machine, the camera shows up in device manager, can be browsed in Windows Explorer and works with Nikon Camera Control 2.13. It does not  work in Lightroom.
On the Win8.1 Machine the camera shows up in Device manager but with a yellow /!\, it does not show up in Windows Explorer, it cannot be detected by Lightroom and Nikon Camera Control does not work.
Nikon Technical say they've tested against their Win 8.0 and 8.1 machines and it works fine. Despite being very friendly and sympathetic, this was about the extent of their help. They confirmed that there are no drivers for the D800 and that the OS should install the generic USB device driver, as it has done so on the Win7 machine.
Camera firmware is up to date, camera batteries are fresh, all tests have been conducted with and without a memory card in the camera. I've used a USB2 Micro cable, a USB3 Micro cable in both USB2 and USB3 sockets, as well as through a powered USB3 Hub and an Active USB3 extension cable.
All permutations work fine with Nikon Camera Control on the Win 7 machine.
None of the permutations work with Lightroom.
None of the permutations with with either Lightroom or NCC on the Win 8.1 machine.
Tried changing the USB3 routing mode from EHCI to XHCI and that didn't change a damn thing either.
Any input gratefully received, I'm flat out of ideas and very frustrated.
Capture One 7.2 works flawlessly on Windows 7, but their UI is lightyears behind Lightroom's so I'd rather get things fixed than jump ship.

Hi Denyerec,
Since not even the Nikon software will tether the camera for you, it sounds like whatever problem you're having is at a much lower level than Lightroom (at least on Windows 8.1).  Tethering with the D800 is supported by Lightroom on both Win7 and Win8.1 (and works fine in my tests).  You can find some tether troubleshooting tips here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/troubleshoot-tethered-capture-lightroom-4.html
It sounds like you've tried a lot of that already, though I would definitely suggest trying a different USB cable if you haven't done that already, as that can make a big difference.
You should also check to see if the tether process is running, like so:
1.  Connect your camera and turn it on.
2.  Launch Lightroom and initiatate tethered capture.
3.  Start Task Manager and look for a process called "tether_nikon.exe *32".
Let me know if any of the troubleshooting steps help, and let me know if the tether process is running.
Thanks,
Ben

  • Having Downloaded the camera raw plug in, files from Nikon D800 not recognised. How do I fix this please?

I have just had a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro and had to reinstall Photoshop CS4. Despite downloading the most recent Camera Raw plug-in Photoshop does not recognise my raw files from my Nikon D 800

That is correct. The Nikon D800 RAW NEF requires ACR 6.7  or newer and you need at least CS5  to use ACR 6.7.  You need to download the 8.6 DNG convert and create DNG files for NEF files to use CS4. Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

It has been over a year since I last went through that process, but I thought it asked first whether you wanted to use an existing iCloud account or set up a new one.
Generally speaking, you cannot delete an iCloud account or any Apple ID, only disconnect from it and abandon using it.

    hey chartsell,
curious to know, does it work on any instant messaging program such as Y!Messenger, Windows Live Messenger?
If it does then, you will need to check with the Skype support team.
if it does not, then try uninstalling the webcam driver. let windows install its generic driver and try again

Ha ha ha! Sucess at last!
    I got it working now!
I was missing a step in the second suggestion (link posted by DM) to edit the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB and add "EVERYONE." Plus I didn't reboot right away! I guess that would help too. Sorry forgot to do that.

  • Ap Crashes after connecting camera (Nikon D300) to computer for Tethering..

Using Aperture in a "tethered" photo shoot, I connected a Nikon D300 and it was working fine. I hade to do a battery change on teh camera and when I turned the camera back on Aperture crashed. Restared computer twice, Aperture lauched just fine, BUT afte connecting the Nikon D300 to the computer Aperture was not responding. However I would disconnect the camera and Aperture was fine. Bottom line I had to cancel the Tethered shooting because aperture continued to stall when I connected the camera. Any thought? Please advice.

Something I forgot to mention was that I shot 2,616 pictures yesterday when this happen. It crashed at like picture 2,245. I was shooting models and it was one shot after the other for like 13 hours straight.
However, today I decided to trash some older pictures to make room for part 2 of the shoot this coming weekend. I got home and I tried tethering again and wallah, it worked. I tried another camera as well a D60 and it worked. So can we say that it was a system overload? Would that be a good assumption?
Should I go in to the preferences and dump prefs? Any thoughts on this would be good.
P.s Prior to the deleting of my older stuff I have like 9gigs available in the hard drive, after deleting I had 27 gigs left.. Just a note!
    Thanks in advance!

  • SSD not detected for mac os x re-installation

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" retina display with 512 SSD. It came with Mac OS X Lion 10.7 so I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 which was fine for one or two days when it stop working, showing a white screen with a grey folder and a question mark in the center. Then I had to follow the procedures to reboot or reinstall the MacOS. Using Internet recovery. Although I got the software, after accepting the Mac OS X Lion installation, the next screen is not showing the SSD to install it. I checked with Disk Utilities and see no disk to install either. Does this means that the SSD is failling? How can I continue with the installation?

Given the cost of the computer and the fact that it is probably not yet a year old, take it to an Apple Store or an authorized Apple Service Provider and let them deal with it under warranty!
Hint: IIRC, it needed a special version of Lion to work with the Retina's hardware.
Edit. Hint #2: given this unsavory experience, consider the convenience of having the computer protected from these kinds of failures for an additional 2 years by purchasing AppleCare. In a user-unserviceable platform such as this, I feel this is indispensable if you plan on keeping the thing for more than a year.

  • Internal Mic not detected for G60-535DX

I accidentally disabled my internal audio sound options, and now it's not showing up at all.  When I go to Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices>Recording it tells me "no audio devices are installed"
I tried installing the Audio drivers to see if that would fix it Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio.  It installed, I restarted, and the mic still isn't showing up.  Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my internal mic. It was not listed as an option on the sound input panel. I solved the problem by going to System Preferences; clicking on "Speech"; then, under "speech recognition", choose "internal microphone" in the microphone menu; then click the "calibrate" button. Go back into the "Sound" panel and, hopefully, the internal mic will be an option.
I have to admit that I explored the rest of the options in the speech panel, but I believe that the calibration in the speech panel did the trick. I have external speakers for output and the mic now works great.
