Nikon D90 RAW (NEF) files imported via iPhoto are not recognized
Would appreciate your help. Just got an iMac. OS X 10.6.7. Installed Aperture 3.1.2. I shoot RAW+JPEGs. Imported both files fine to iPhoto '11 from my old PC. When Aperture then imported an Event from iPhoto, I still see two versions of each shot, but Aperture calls them both JPEG. On one version the metadata is complete, on the second some is missing (e.g., Exposure Mode, Lens). Both are shown as 12.2 MP, no matter what. Can't do any editing this way! Any thoughts on what might be going on? Many thanks! --Bob
I just pickup a D300 and unfortunately Aperture nor iPhoto will not import the picture in the RAW format. Do you know if the RAW format will be updated in the new OS release that is to be announced?
I also contacted Nikon about the Capture NX program that came with the camera and Nikon told me that they are working with Apple to resolve the issues with there program as well.
It would be nice if the Camera venders would work with Apple before introduction to make sure the software is available to support the hardware they introduce..

I'm working on MAC with the latest OS and CS3 Photoshop and Lightroom 1.4.1 I'm looking for a way to import the latest Nikon NEF RAW files into Adobe. Will I need to wait for Adobe RAW 5 plugin? Nikon Df RAW (NEF) files will not load previews into Lightroom 5.4. Nikon d300s RAW (NEF) files load just fine. Df files do not.

I have loaded directly into Lightroom using import and via Nikon Capture NX2. RAW files display fine in Capture.
In Lightroom, blank previews are created for each available image, with the message "Preview unavailable for this file." -
I can't read Nikon D5200 Raw NEF files with CS6 under Windows 8.1?
I bought a new PC so I could use Photoshop CS6 more efficiently. However, after I installed CS6, I can't read Nikon D5200 Raw NEF files under Windows 8.1. I've tried updating CS6, but nothing seems to work.
First, I hadto load the most recent version of the Adobe Application Manager. Then I could see all of the CS6 Updates including the most recent Camera Raw update.
I had to run one update at a time for it to work correctly.
But now I'm cooking with gas.

when will Adobe release the Lightroom update to support Nikon Df raw/NEF file?
In the mean time, or if it doesn't make it into LR 5.3 and you like techy stuff, see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52616096 for how to patch the exif of Df NEFs to look like D4 NEFs, as the presumption is that the sensor is identical.
Warning: take note of the advice in that thread to make backups of your NEFs first. Second warning: read the whole thread. In the first post he says Exiftool when he means Exifchanger. -

My Issue is - XML files imported into SPRC are not properly loading associated data into SPRC .
When am uploading the XML files manually its working fine in /TDAG/CPM00.
The same when we are uploading the XML files thru basis program IPC (XML) Documents into SAP , its not working .In XMl file it showing its complaint the same time compliance workbench complaint statues it showing empty .

Photoshop Elements 8.0 will not open Nikon D610 RAW .NEF files
I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0; just purchased a Nikon D610 and when I try and open the RAW .NEF files I get error message saying wrong file type.

Nikon D610 is supported in ACR 8.3 (adobe camera raw version 8.3) while PSE8 is quite old. You may convert to DNG and then process converted DNGs in PSE8. For 8.3 DNG converter, see http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694

NEF format imports into iPhoto but not Photoshop??

I'm currently using a Nikon D70S, shooting in RAW format. The .NEF files import just fine into iPhoto, but for some reason, if I try to edit them in Photoshop CS, it gives me this error message:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
...Okay! I'm not sure why this is happening. I'm on the latest update of the OS and iPhoto. The only workaround I've found so far is that I can open each file up in Preview and then save it as a tiff. But for hundreds of photos... It's pretty cumbersome.
Any ideas on what might be going wrong? My .NEF files have opened in Photoshop CS a couple times, but I'm not sure why that was, and I wasn't paying too much attention to this issue until now when I need to edit a huge amount of photos at once. Help!
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 1.33GHz/1GBIf you are trying to open the RAW files, you will need to drag them from the iPhoto view pane into PSCS. Opening in external editor will send the OSX created JPEG to PS and that may not be what you want. Opening the RAW will also only work if you never edit the JPEG either within iPhoto or with an external editor. After that, the JPEG will always be used. When opening the RAW, you will need to save the file outside of iPhoto, convert it to JPEG, TIFF, or PSD format, and then re-import that version into iPhoto to keep it part of the library. Also, make sure your version Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) supports the D70S. Most updates are free and the D70S isn't that old and it's a different RAW format than the D70.

RAW NEF files imported into Aperture from a Nikon D70 are dark
I imported one roll of images straight from the CF card from my Nikon D70 into Aperture.
I also imported them into Nikon PictureProject. (the current application I use)
All the NEF's in Aperture are darker than the NEF's in PictureProject. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Also, any NEF that I have previously edited and saved in Nikon Capture Editor, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. Interesting that the Finder shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks, Scott K.I've imported a few of the NEF files I've gotten from my D2X, and for the most part, they look fine. A little darker than when displayed in Adobe Bridge and ACR, but not that much darker. This is probably just the way the image converter is interpreting the RAW data. A couple of minor levels adjustments for me, and they look fine.
As for Aperture not "seeing" the changes made to a RAW file in Nikon Capture. That may be due to the way Capture applies its changes to the file. If when you make a change, Capture simply adds the adjustments to a side car file, etc., and doesn't change the original RAW file (which it should never do), then Aperture is only reading the original RAW data. The side car info is not understood by Aperture. At least not now.
This is pretty much the same way ACR works.

Nikon D300 RAW NEF files not recognized ???
I just got a new Nikon D300. I Have been using a Nikon D80 shooting RAW with no problems. I cannot get iPhoto or Aperture to recognize any RAW files. RAW+jpeg results in the jpeg files being imported by not the RAW files.
All software is the newest version, iPhoto08 v 7.1.1 and Aperture 1.5.6 Here is the error message I get in iPhoto
Unreadabel Files:
/private/var/folders/1s/1suEP7hYGu15kLLAa5I2+++TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/DSC_0075.NEF
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Nikon D5300 and NEF file import problem
I Just purchased a Nikon D5300 and I cannot import the NEF files into Adobe Photoshop Elements Ver 12.
You need at least Camera Raw 8.3.
Elements 12 ships with 8.1.
In Elements 12, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw. -
Merge to HDR Pro does not work on Nikon D800 RAW (NEF) files
Hi,
I can't get Merge to HDR Pro to work on NEF RAW files from my Nikon D800 - nothing happens after after confirming the file selection. However, it works ok if I convert those files to DNG (using Lightroom 4), and if I use the D800's JPGs, and if I use Nikon D7000 NEFs. It just seems to be a problem with Nikon D800 NEFs.
Steps taken:
1. File -> Automate -> Merge to HDR Pro
2. Browse... and select NEF files (even selecting 2 files does not work).
3. Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images is checked. Then press OK.
Expected result:
Progress cursor spins as files are loaded and HDR dialog appears.
Actual result:
Nothing happens - no progress cursor or CPU or disk activity - it is as if I had clicked cancel instead of ok.
This is a clean install of the 64 bit CS6 beta on Windows 7 64 bit, with no plugins, and I reset preferences (Ctrl+Alt+Shift on startup). I do have my existing CS5 Extended still installed, as well as Lightroom 3.6 and 4.0.
I can send you the NEFs if you like.

The Ps CS6 public beta version contains the same camera support as found in Ps CS5/5.5 compatible CR 6.6. There will be future updates to CR 7 for Ps CS6 to pick up more camera support. The Nikon D800 NEF files are not supported, yet.
If you like to work with your D800 files in the public beta build now, you'll have to get the DNG Converter 6.7 from here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
and convert your files to DNG.

If you open iPhoto then from the Menu Bar, select Help. In the Search box type: raw
In the Help Topic results you will see: About digital cameras that support RAW files... click there.

Nikon D90 RAW/NEF color vs. in-camera JPG color
I'm new to Aperture and also (now) taking more NEF+JPG images.
I've been satisfied with most of my JPGs in the past but I'm taking more RAW images now and finding that they don't match the JPG color when viewed in Aperture 3. When I use ViewNX to tweak RAW images the "starting point" for color and adjustments is much closer to the matching JPG but when I use Aperture, there are obvious differences between the JPG and Aperture's 'conversion' of the RAW image. The listed White Balance is different when Auto WB is used and the histogram is much different. The RAW image isn't a good starting point from which to begin tweaking to improve upon the JPG.
I realize that there are efforts by others to "profile" the Nikon cameras but I'm surprised that Aperture is so far off the mark. Both iPhoto and Photoshop Elements seem to do a better job.
(The latest ACR is installed.)I suppose it depends on what in-camera processing you're doing (Normal, Vivid, active D-lighting, etc). What you're seeing on the screen, and in ViewNX is edits applied to the jpeg embedded in the RAW file.
The RAW will always look different from the jpeg, because the RAW has absolutely no processing done to it. iPhoto should look identical to Aperture as I believe it uses the same RAW processing. PSE/Lightroom/PS all use ACR, and they should all look the same, but will likely look somewhat different from iPhoto and Aperture.
I generally just keep my D80 on Normal (and it doesn't have active D-lighting, but I can selectively add D-lighting in the edit menu if I choose (I don't)), and I find that a small .05 bump to Contrast, .1 to Definition, .05-.1 to Saturation, and .1 to Vibrance is about exactly what I see on the camera screen. It's a good starting point, and I just created a preset I apply to every image I import (had a very similar preset in Lightroom).
One thing you could do is set up a tripod, set your camera to RAW+Jpeg, and go through each of the color modes, and active D-light modes. Once you get those into Aperture, you can tweak the RAW to match it's Jpeg, and save that as a preset. Then the next time you're out shooting, when you bring in your RAW images, you can just apply whatever preset (Normal, Softer, Vivid, etc) to them, and you'll have a starting point matching the out of camera Jpegs.
I'm actually planning on doing just that for my D80, and eventually when I upgrade to a D300 doing the same for it. -

emac Mac OS X (10.2.x)Each time a new camera model is introduced the camera raw plugin has to be updated for its format. The D7100 requires ACR 7.4 which is not compatible with PSE 9. So you have three options:
1. Upgrade PSE.
2. Use the nikon software to convert your files and open the converted files into PSE for further editing.
3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to convert your NEFs to DNG files that your version of ACR can understand.
