Nikon dust off plug-in

Is there a way, either in PS (CS3) or Bridge to read or utilize Nikon Dust Off Reference Photos (*.ndf) to minimize the impact of dust on the camera's sensor (D-200)?

Although Adobe produces camera raw profiles to fit individual camera models' raw files you cannot seriously expect them to provide model-pecific software for dust spot removal. There is a Dust and Scratches filter in Photoshop and, in Adobe Camera Raw, a user can save a "template" to remember where the dust spots are on his sensor.

Image Dust Off - uses a reference image taken with Nikon digital SLR cameras to map out dust on the sensor and then automatically remove its effect from NEF images shot using Nikon CPU lenses.
Is there such a thing in Aperture and how do I set it up?

This does work well for me especially with a series of dust over blue skies in say a stack. Use the Spot for the first image to kill the obvious dust at zoomed level. Then lift & stamp those adjustments over the remaining images. Just keep an eye when applying spots on areas of textures or with high contrast or edging. Sometimes spots can mess these up.

  • JUST DUSTED OFF THIS MAC

Just dusted off this time capsule that's been sitting in my closet for about 6 years. This machine is running great. But it seems this operating system has seem better days as far as web-browsing is concerned. A friend said OS 9 is not supported anymore and that's why web pages and multi-media programs are sometimes not functional. So I've read that I can just go ahead and install OS X. Now considering my old system, what version would make sense? I'll be using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark to play with non-animated stuff that I worked on years ago. What version would be the best for this type of use? Will my applications work or do I have to re-install/update them? Any help with be appreciated. Thanks. Going to sleep now. Will try to log on at work this afternoon

If it meets the Tiger System Requirements, any PowerMac G4/450MHZ model, can be upgraded to Tiger 10.4.x, which is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
The RAM requirement is bare minimum. More is better!
Is yours the AGP, Gigabit, or the Cube?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update. Which I believe your model does.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
"Will my applications work or do I have to re-install/update them?"
That depends on the application, and what type of installation you choose.
More info here KB Article About installation options .
You need to check the developer website, for system requirements/compatibility, of Third-Party applications.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
This is the correct one Mac OS X 10.4.6 Tiger, (DVD) Retail at FastMac.
    And at HardCore Mac.
Both are more expensive, than The Apple Store (U.S.).
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
    Tiger is on DVD.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
    Caveat Emptor!
If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!

  • Macbook Air, cleaning screen.  Are Dust-Off Monitor Wipes safe to use?

Are Dust-Off Monitor Wipes safe to use on the screen of a MacBook Air?

    Hello Otto,
Here's the official response from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
When I worked at the Apple Store we used iKlear every night to wipe down displays on all the floor models as well as any machine in for service. The cleaning solution was never sprayed directly onto the display or any part of the machine, only into the microfiber cloth and then a gentle wipe down of the targeted area. The application of cleaning solution was minimal as well to the cloth to avoid the potential for causing any sort of harm or damage to the product.
Because the MacBook Air doesn't have the glass overlay like the 13" or 15" MacBook Pro I'd recommend being gentle when wiping the screen at all times as you're directly applying pressure to LCD panel. I'd also avoid things like Windex or "glass cleaner." I see no reason why the Dust-Off Monitor Wipes would not be acceptable, there's no chemical components on the materials list that jump out at me as being potentially hazardous to damaging the panel.

  • Getting dust off the display

i'm pretty good when taking care of my macbook. i know my method of cleaning it but how can i get the dust off the display? its a bit annoying since i like my stuff (especially my macbook) clean.

I prefer to use a micro fiber cloth moistened with water as this picks up the dust better than a dry cloth. The cloth is also good for cleaning the body of a BlackBook. I have been using one this way for 18 months and mine still looks like new.

  • Elements 11 won't support RAW for Nikon D3300, no plug-in updates

Got a new Nikon D3300 and Elements 11 doesn't seem to support the file format.  I keep getting an error.  Tried to find a plug-in update but there is nothing for 11.  I need this fixed ASAP - what can I do!!??

Besides upgrading to pse 13, you could use the 8.6 dng converter to convert the 3300 nef files to dng copies, which pse 11 should then open.
(if you have windows xp, vista or mac os x 10.6, then you won't be to use the 8.6 dng converter or any dng converter that supports the nikon 3300)

Is there a plug in available to update NEF file from Nikon 600D to Photoshop Elements 9? Can't open the NEF file without getting "Error occured" message. I am downloading from camera to View NX2, but can't open the files in Photoshop Elements".  BK

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)

  • When I view PDF files, they become transparent?? If I turn off plug-ins then pdf is ok?? What do I do?

Not sure what else to say. When I try to view a PDF file, it becomes transparent & whiteish and I see my desktop through it. If I choose to turn off all plug-ins then it's ok. Soooo, I'm assuming it's something with the plug-ins. Perhaps a new update or something as I haven't intentionally changed anything at all.

This only happens to me when I don't have the window maximized. It also happens with other embedded media, such as parts of Pandora's interface.

  • Dusting off a Wallstreet

I had a friend who wanted me to take a look at her old laptop computer a couple of years ago but I couldn't give her an answer on what was wrong because my expertise is in Windows systems a not Macs. Well she said she got a new one and that for the time I spent trying to troubleshoot the system I could keep it and play with it some. Well here it is years later and now I'm trying this again.
The computer is a Wallstreet and has 2 batteries, CDROM, powercord, and superdisk drive. One of the batteries does hold a charge and can run the system from that. And the wall power works fine too. The big thing is that when you press the power button you hear a "booooo" and what sounds like fans powering down. Then the screen comes on showing the mouse cursor and a little disk in the center with a flashing "?". I know from trolling around boards before that this usually means no OS, or even bad HD. If you put your ear up to the computer where the HD is you can hear it spin up but then stop over and over again. This continues until the system shuts itself down. I have no system disks for this and was just going to download and install OS 7 and upgrade from there if possible from the internet. i know it seems kinda silly to look into fixing an upgrading such an old system but I was looking for a simple system my wife could carry anywhere in the house and run things like AIM, yahoo, get email, write letters, and play at web sites like neopets and pogo.
After all that here is what I'm asking. Is the HD dead? And if not is there something I can download and burn from my Windows PC and run it on boot on the Wallstreet that can trouble shoot the HD for me. I know lots of stuff. I would like to eventually add the max RAM (512 I think it was), bump the HD up some (which needs to be done anyway if dead), add a wireless networking card to access my Linksys router (I have a Dell brand but would probably need something else), and get up to something like OS 9.2.2.
And if anybody has any ideas how it can be done, like I haven't thrown enough in there, I am going to be building a media server for all of our pictures and it will probably boot to Linux or Windows. Can a Mac OS see and access the Network system and view the pictures on the server?
I figure if I have a basic laptop that will do the things she wants to do around the house then why buy or build another system.

    Hi Bopher,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. It looks like you have a bit of a project. A Wallstreet with no functioning operating system can pose a few challenges that the newer macs get around with the "Target" mode and firewire. Without those functions it is hard to get a look at the hard drive or even put anything on one without using the optical drive or a floppy drive. If you download and make a set of floppy disks with os 7.5 you could possibly see if the machine will work and what kind of processor you've got and how much ram you've got. The problem is that your windows machine won't be able to rip the disks in the format readable by the powerbook. Bummer. Linux may be able to run an emulator that will run the operating system but I have no experience in that arena.
I usually just resort to pulling the drive out. It is a simple procedure and can be done in under a minute once you get familiar with the procedure (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Wallstreet/HD-Replacement/3/4/).
Once the drive is out you can put it into an enclosure and get a look at it. Unfortunately you'll be very handicapped in what you'll be able to see if you hook it up to a Windows computer. To really see and work with the drive you'll need another Mac. A Linux emulator may work though.
To avoid all that pulling installing and emulating you could just invest in a set of OS install disks.
10.2.8 would be the highest OSX that will run natively on the Wallstreet. Luckily you can sometimes find this operating system on Ebay. I just did a search and found one available for $20.
    http://tinyurl.com/3t457o
If you don't have the option of using another mac you're pretty much going to have to have some sort of start up disk. Whether it is OS X or OS 9 you've got to have some other way to see what the system can do without using the hard drive.
If you're determined to make the thing work you'd be better off getting a copy of a 9.1 install disk and using that as a start. That is the OS that the wallstreet runs to when it has trouble and if it isn't installed on the hard drive you may run into trouble later. If you had access to a brick and mortar Certified Apple repair place they could at least put in a disk and tell you if the machine is worth working on or if you're better off spending your money and time on a machine that you're more familiar with, like an old Thinkpad or something.
If you can load a working OS and it fires right up, you've actually got yourself a pretty decent machine. Most of your expenses after that would be to upgrade the RAM so that web pages load better. Another hard drive would work nice, the operating system needs to be on the first 8 gigs of the drive or else the logic board won't be able to find it at startup. Wifi can be had with a 802.11g card but you'll have to be running OS X in order to use a 802.11g card. If you can find an old 802.11b card that runs on the broadcom chipset (orinoco gold) it should run in OS 9. If you can run OS 9 and have wifi then you can run iCab or similar bowser and still use Yahoo etc but AIM won't run on OS 9.
Here's what I'd do. Take the machine into a computer shop. See if they can test it enough to know if it would run if it had a good HDD and OS installed. Then, if it is useable, invest in an OS 9 Disk
    http://tinyurl.com/3sdeth
and OS 10.3 install CD. Also, get a couple of 256 ram cards
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G3-Lombard/
for the daughter card, and at least a 60gb HDD.
Then: Install the ram and hard drive, install OS 9. Then plug into the router with an ethernet cable and use iCab or (gasp) Internet Explorer 5 or Netscape Navigator 4 to pull down a little application called XpostFacto.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Framework.cfm?page=XPostFacto.htm l
Once you've got that in place you can install your 10.3.X CD's using the Xpostfacto interface to get around the hardware checks on the install disk and to emulate a New World ROM for the system to use. It works quite well and is actually faster than the 10.2.8 system due to the streamlining of some processes that were done between the two systems.
Now you'll be able to use Firefox 3 beta 5 or Firefox 2 but you won't be able to use Safari 3.1.
If you've decided that you must have the latest Apple browser, you'll have to run Tiger (10.4.11) which isn't a problem except that you don't have a DVD drive, just a CD ROM. With that being said, you might be able to find Tiger installers on CD's instead of a DVD. I found this on ebay
    http://tinyurl.com/3n3ckb
Those disks are for an eMac, it wouldn't normally be a problem but since you don't already have a working OS X system it would be a bummer to run into a snag at the beginning. Once you have a working OS X system in place all you need to do is pull down Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) and it will extract the OS out of any install CD and get around any hardware check. But you need a working OSX install in order to run Pacifist.
Once you've got Panther (10.3) or Tiger (10.4) or even Jaguar (10.2) running you should be able to do all the things that you've got listed there. Even access your pictures on your server. The old machine may take a bit of time but it will get the job done. The extra ram will help speed things up. They do make and sell processor upgrades for these machines but they're so old now that it may be hard to find one. I had a bad experience with an upgrade card but you might not. If you've decided you need to run OS X, and you want to upgrade, you'll be better off IMHO with a G4 upgrade. The Altivec Engine helps with the graphics demands in OS X.
Hope this has helped. Have fun with your new/old wallstreet!

  • The best way to clean dust off of the screen

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone have any tips for removing the dust from the iMac G5 screen?
I'm especially thinking about the edges, where the dust might be able to collect.
    Thanks,

I am not sure if they are available in the UK, but I use these from Falcon Safety. They are a microfiber cloth that will not scratch your screen. It is relatively thin, so you can get into the "ledge" around the display.

  • The screen to my iPhone 4 went completely black. Ive tried turning it on and off, plugging it in, restoring it from my iTunes but the screen stays black. It connects to iTunes and when i plug it in, it vibrates like I have a text.

Why does the screen turn black? I was using it normally and it all of a sudden faded to black and hasnt come back on since yesterday. You can see the back light but no image on the screen. Ive plugged it in and it vibrates that its connected but still the screen stays black. I left it alone while I slept and tried again in the morning but still nothing.

So weird mine is doing the same thing. I didnt drop it or anything. I was texting and it suddenly went white and then turned black. It says its plugged into itunes but the screen comntinues to stay black.

My now dead laptop was running Firefox 3.6. It died. Now I have my old iMac out of storage. It has Firefox 2.0.0.1 on it. I'm using it now. Check for updates says I can go as high as 2.0.0.20. I'd like to upgrade the iMac to the most current operating system it can work with (right now it's at OSX 10.2.8), and then get Firefox up to the most current version this can run. I tried searching for older firefox versions to download, but can't seem to find them on your website. (I used search term "download Firefox 3.5"). I did this to check and see what OSX version they can work with. Let me know what I need to do. Thanks!

  • Dusting off my new Flower Powered g3

I am new to macs, been a PC guy for too long - I LOVE my mac- the community, everything.
In lieu of the cash for a new machine, how can I get squeeze the most out of this thing:
iMac OS x 10.3.9 500mhz Power PC, Flower Power Slot Loader w/128m ram and 19gb drive.
No original discs (it was a lonely little guy sitting in a garage sale hoping to find a new caring home).
    What's best?
Install largest max size new drive (7200rpm?) , maximum ram, get latest OS and firmware and reload everything? Can I get an internal DVDr or is that just silly?
    or
Clone drive (using external USB or Firewire connected drive) and add ram? Old drive is kinda noisy and gets accessed alot when loading any app at all.
Any help at all would be appreciated. I have been looking around alot and found some utils to help optimize it (Onxy, remove languages, repair permissions, remove silly apps.)
It's still really slow - maybe I am expecting too much, but it's kind of a neat little machine and if I can squeeze some more life out of it without getting silly I would like to.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Danny and welcome to Apple Discussions,
iMac OS x 10.3.9 500mhz Power PC, Flower Power Slot Loader w/128m ram and 19gb drive
Install largest max size new drive (7200rpm?)
    Max is 128 GB
    maximum ram
128 is barely enough to run 10.3.9 (probably why it's so slow) 512 better, good at 768
    get latest OS
It's running a good OS and will run Tiger 10.4.11
    firmware
Well it has to already had it's firmware (upgraded) at 4.1.9 to run 10.3.9
Can I get an internal DVDr or is that just silly?
It will play DVDs nicely and already had a DVD-ROM or a CD-RW.
An external firewire would be easier and cheaper but the internal DVDs can be found and are pretty cheap.
Clone drive (using external USB or Firewire connected drive)
USB will take forever FireWire best.
Old drive is kinda noisy and gets accessed alot when loading any app at all.
Replace. I use salvaged ATA/IDE drives from old PCs.
    It's still really slow
    More RAM as above and reinstall OS 10.3.2 - .9 or 10.4.3 - .11
