Nikon J1 video playback in iPhoto is jumpy?

Where can i find a driver or update to have 100% support of video files from Nikon J1? The video plays but jumps around when playing in iPhoto. Do i really need to convert MOV files? I would prefer not to do this.
Thanks

What is the format of your videos?
iPhoto and Aperture don't support  all video formats and frame rates. For best results use the frame rates and sizes listed in this table:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4025
For example:
Nikon J1, mov, H.264,
Pixel size: 1920 x 1080, frame rates: 60, 30
Pixel size: 1280 x 720, frame rate:60

  • How do I reduce slideshow sound during video playback in iPhoto.

    Hi all.
The quick slideshow in iPhoto 09 is fantastic! The combination of pictures and videos blending into each other works very well.
...with one exception. When showing a video with sound the selected background music for the slideshow still plays - at a reduced volume. This reduced backgroundvolume is often not reduced enough and it interfers and destroys the experience of the video clip. I would like to find an option for reducing the backgroundmusic even further or maybe mute it during the video playback. But as soon as next pictures are shown the backgroundmusic should return again.
A very technical solution eg changing / "hacking" iPhoto files would be fine also.

That can't be done. Send in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you're saving the movie as a QT file for use elsewhere and have access to iMovie HD 6 you can do that very easy. Create the movie without added music, export to Quicktime, import into iMovie HD 6 and add the music tracks as desired.
You will have lots of control over the sound this way.

  • IPhoto video playback issues

Has anyone had issues after upgrading to iOS Yosemite?  In iPhoto ver 9.6 when attempting to play high-res videos taken on a gopro the video playback is very choppy.  The audio seems to be fine, but the video is quite bad.  Looking at 1920x1080 res @60 fps.  For those familiar with gopro these were taken while protune was enabled.  Never had an issue while using Maverick.

    Hi lksdjfl,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to install a prior version of OS X because of choppy video playback. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Video playback error in iphoto journal

I made a journal I wanted to share with my family that included three videos.  Everything appeared to upload fine (although it took forever), but when I go to check it out on the web, only one of the three videos will play.  I tried opening the video on the iphoto version of the journal, and it works fine. If I put the video in edit mode in iphoto, play it, and then take it out of edit mode so that it re-uploads, it doesn't seem to help.
Anybody have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance...

    Hey sb521,
If you can play other videos in QuickTime Player like the Movie trailers available through QuickTime or FREE ON iTunes content. The issue may be with the content you've downloaded. You may have to contact the iTunes Store support group: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
If you cannot play the FREE ON iTunes content or Movie trailers in iTunes or Quicktime PLayer, the issue may be related to the software on your PC.
Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX, this article has a link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24382
You also may want to try uninstalling any codec packs or QuickTime plugins that you've installed.

  • Playback of iPhoto movies not smooth

For 5 years I have taken a lot of nice avi movies with my compact Nikon S210 camera.  They always play back very smoothly and are a pleasure to watch directly on my Mac, via a large attached monitor or even to my Apple TV.
But this past week my daughter purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-Z25.  A super camera that records videos in either a "clip" mode or in mp4 format.  Great it would seem, except that when playing back these "movies" in iPhoto (latest version, running 10.8.3 on my MacBook Pro mid-2010) they are jerky-- not smooth.  Sometimes if I play the same video 5 times over, it gets better.  But then I play another one, go back to that one, and it is jerky again.  Same if played with QuickTime.  BUT never a problem with the avi movies taken on my other camera -- only this Lumix gives the jerky playbacks.  Why?
I am ready to purchase a Lumix but WILL NOT if I am going to have videos like that!

Old Toad and TD:  This is the reply from PANASONIC.  NOTE:  They thought I was having problems in iMovie.  I was talking about the latest version of iPhoto.  So I tried iMovie, and all the videos that were choppy in iPhoto played perfectly and smoothly in iMovie.  GREAT-- but I hardly ever use iMovie-- I find it an awkward program to use just to view a few nice short videos…  So fine that it works in iMovie, but I need videos to play in iPhoto.
My questions after the reply below (to you and I already eMailed these to Panasonic) are:
Have I possibly set the videos (AVCHD and mp4) to record in 50 fps mode which apparently won't play correctly in iPhoto?  Actually I was trying to record in 50 fps, but when I did INFO in iPhoto it always said 25 fps (but with my old Nikon Coolpix S210 it said 30 fps)
How can I find the fps info when I import the videos into iMovie?
They said 50 fps is not supported by iMovie-- but is it?  Perhaps it is supported by iMovie and not iPhoto??
Panasonic mentions some software/drivers.  Is that something I perhaps need to do?  Attach the camera and install drivers?  How will that work with iPhoto?????
    What else???
    Here's that reply from Panasonic:
    Thank you for your e-mail.
Regarding your enquiry, thank you for displaying the full problem. As I understand the videos playback perfectly in VLC media player, which means that the video itself is recorded perfectly, and the problem needs to be with the iMovie software that does not fully support the video format. We kindly recommend you contact Mac as this is an issue that they need to solve in order for you to playback properly the movie.
I hope you can understand my point of view, because if the problem where to be with the DMC-TZ25, the video should have played back choppy using any media player, but given this situation, the problem is only with the iMovie.
The following information is the only one we have regarding using the DMC-TZ25's software on a Mac computer:
Please note that 50p footage available on some cameras is not supported by Imovie.
The supplied software is not Mac compatible.
Connect the camera to the Mac, selecting ‘PC’ on the cameras connection options. The camera will install using drivers built into the Mac and appear on the desktop.
Iphoto should start up automatically when the camera is connected to the Mac, and give you the option to import your Photos and Motion JPEG Video. We recommend using OSX 10.4 onwards and Iphoto 08 onwards.
To download your AVCHD video you will need to use the Imovie 09 package from Apple. Imovie will not automatically open. You will need to open Imovie and then click on the Import button on the left hand side of the software.
Please note that Imovie 08 will detect the AVCHD videos on the camera but may crash when importing. There is advice on the Apple website regarding this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3481
For further help using the Mac applications please refer to the Apple website, contact Mac by phone or visit your nearest Mac store.
I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie. The two   hour wait to view all in iMovie puts the kibosh on my edit time.

How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie? The two + hour wait for thumb nails and hour long wait looking for the right videos kills the time I have to edit.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Missing Video thumbnails in iphoto in iphoto 11

I have just discovered lots of missing movies in my iphoto library, I have re imported them from an iphoto backup, and if i search for the keyword movie they appear, but no thumbnails appear in the photo display. I have tried rebuilding the library but none of the imported videos show up. New videos imported from my camera show up fine.

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I triple checked a handful of the video files and they aren't exhibiting black at the start.
    How I checked:
    - Select black video thumbnail image
    - Press space bar (to "zoom" and begin playing video"
    - Stop video playback at approx. five seconds in (video counter reads 00:00:05)
    - Rewind "playhead" to very start of video so that the counter reads 00:00:00 and there is definately an image / content being displayed (e.g. is not black)
See attached screen shot with playhead at 00:00:00

  • Black video thumbnails in iPhoto (Mavericks)

    Hello everyone.
I have Mavericks on a late 2012 Macbook Pro running iPhoto 9.5.1.
I recently noticed that rough a third of my videos were displaying thumbnails that are just black.  I freaked for a second, thinking the movie files were gone or something but thankfull the video files are still there and play just fine.
Still it would be nice to see that the video thumbnail images are rather than just black rectangles, right?
I tried all the different iPhoto rebuilding options (which takes a heckuva long time! ... then purchased iPhoto Library Manager and attempted some rebuild options using that with no luck.
Wondering if anyone has had this issue too and/or solved it?
    Cheers!

  • Why am I having imbedded video playback problems in Lion?

    Hello all,
I'm been having problems viewing web videos on my 2011 MBPro 13'' w/ OS X Lion. Any time of web video I have normal sound by the video frames get all jumpy, almost like its less than 1fps. The only web videos that do not have this problem is when I watch a youtube video on youtube.com. If I watch imbedded youtube videos, I have the same skittish video playback problem.
I have my adobe flash updated and I used Google Chrome as my web browser.
Anyone else have a similar problem? Fixes? Thanks!
    -Sean

Two things to keep in mind
There is a forum for Lion, another for MBP owners, and this is not.
And yes you will find lots and lots of threads of same.... no one looks at those that were "Solved"

  • Sharing Video Clips with iphoto

When I import video clips into iphoto everything works perfect. I can view and hear video. But when I share or export with QT Pro I lose the audio track. I am using a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera. I have searched and searched but I cannot find an answer to this question. HELP!

Your Sony camera probably make MPEG-1 files and QuickTime (or any app that uses it) can't extract audio from these "muxed" file formats.
Download and install MPEG Streamclip (free). It can convert your .mpg files to other formats (.dv for iMovie or iDVD). Audio track comes along, too.
If your camera creates MPEG-2 formats you'll also need the MPEG-2 Playback Component (sold at the Apple Store for $20).

  • Nikon D5100 Video Format

Just got a new Nikon D5100 and shot some video over the weekend. When I tried to transfer them directly to the iPad via card reader, the files were found but I guess the iPad cannot playback .mov files. Is there an easy fix to this? Like can I change the file format that the Nikon shoots videos in or is there an app that easily converts these files so that they can play on the iPad? Please help...

I am unsure of you're first question, but there is no app that can change video formats in the iDevice.

  • Sansdisk sdhc not compatible for video playback

video playback jumping in iphoto when using a 32 GB Sansdisk sdhc card to import video

If you didn't format the Sandisk to Mac before storing anything on it you will have to transfer them to or burn them to a CD or DVD and hopefully they are all .jpg then you shouldn't have a problem. If you are going to use the Sandisk on a Mac it must be re-Formatted because they come formatted fat 32 for PC. You may be low on ram as well if what you have stored is Video. You may have to download a different Player like VLC it will play just about everything.

  • Poor 1080p Video playback

I have a 2008 iMac with the upgraded 4GB Ram and 512Mb Nvidia video card - I recently received a GoPro Hero3 video camera that records in 1080p@60fps and higher resolutions.  Once I download them to the iMac into iPhoto or iMovie the playback is ridiculously slow and choppy.
I have also recently noticed issues with my Time Machine Backups and finding they take much longer then before.
This feels like an issue that I would get from my old Windows PC.  I have about 50% space left on my 500GB hard drive and I am not over using resources while attempting playback of the videos.
I have no issues playing them on a Dell laptop though?
Any thoughts on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you in advnace.

Based on numerous threads I have read, many others are experiencing poor video playback. Evidently it is a 10.8.2 bug because one individual posted that they got a beta version of 10.8.3 and the playback problem had been fixed.
Only guess I've read about the 10.8.3 release date is sometime in January.
File a bug report - it can't hurt:
    Feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Even though it may not do any good I would suggest you run Disk Utility/Repair Permissions. Repeat until it shows no repairs were made. Clearing the log in between runs can make the process less confusing. It would eliminate permissions as a possible problem.

  • Windows 10 Video playback issues

I have an HP Pavilion g6 and currently use Windows 8.1 OS. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and had major problems playing videos coded into my own website and on other main stream websites too - YouTube videos were not such an issue. Depending on which internet browser I used, I would either experience a dark green screen and perfect audio or black screen with perfect audio or most frequently, on Chrome, I was gettng hesitant/jumpy video playback and a loud buzzing noise on audio. Neither Microsoft Support nor Windows Support were able to help me and the final piece of advice was to go back to my old OS, which I have done, and wait for an any future updates!! Great help! Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a solution? I have tried a number of suggestions, including  changing the settings option to gpu rendering from software rendering but no joy. I'm not a particularly technical sort of person so please go easy on me with your replies. Many thanks Steve

Just wanted to circule back and close the loop.  My issue have been resolved.  It was the driver for the audio.  After updating all of the driver (via Intel and HP) nothing appeared to work and I virtually went through all of the devices and check the driver.  It was then that I noticed that IDT High Definition audio codec was very old, dated back to 2012.  So I did a little research and came upon this post (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_devices/idt-high-definition-audio-codec-not-working-on/570a5038-e48e-43f3-af75-95da61447c87?auth=1) The instruction from 3Juan was very specific and solved by problem.  It's as follow. I had a same problem on HP Envy 23 1080jp All in one desktop PC.I can solved as following.1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.2. Select Driver tab.3. Click Update Driver... button.4. Select  -> Browse my computer for driver software.5. Select -> Let me pickup a list of device drivers on my computer.6. Select  High Definition Audio Device (Not  IDT High Def...  this is important.) and click Next.    Appears Warning message, but reply Yes.7. ! Windows has successfully update your driver software.Key is step 6.  Cheers!
