Nikon P6000 and iPhoto 09's Places feature

Has anyone out there used the Nikon P6000's built in GPS features with iPhoto 09's Places feature? I am interested in buying the camera and wanted to know if there were others that have used the GPS features with iPhoto.
Thanks!

  • Nikon D200 and iPhoto

    Earlier, I asked the question,
I'm considering upgrading to a Nikon D200. Can I download images in RAW/NEF and JPEG from Nikon D200 into iPhoto 5.0 on my old PowerBook G4?
One person answered the question and then the thread was archived for some reason. I was hoping to get more discussion on this topic. For example, I'd like to ask the person who responded if the camera and the software work well together and if this is the primary software he uses for his or her digital photos.

I am just trying to start a topic???
I have a Nikon D200 and iPhoto 08 with the newest download. It had camera compatibility updates, I think that is where my problem is. All of my Nikon RAW (NEF) files have the wrong White Balance temperatures in iPhoto. They were good before this download. How do I roll the update back, and how do I report it to Apple as a bug???

  • I have just purchased a Nikon D7000 and iPhoto downloads jpgs but does not show them. It shows an empty frame. If you double click the frame it will show the image. I have tried importing images from the Nikon provided software and the same thing happens.

I just purchased a Nikon D7000. However, iPhoto does not display JPEG images. I seems to download ok, but displays only an empty box. Double clicking on the box opens the image in a single display window. It does the same thing when importing from Nikon's supplied software. Forget about handling RAW files. Now, I'm having difficulty importing JPGs from Photoshop files for slide shows or use in iMovie.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Nikon D50 and iPhoto 4.0.3

I recently purchased a Nikon D50 digital SLR. I am still waiting for my SD card, so I haven't actually used it yet, but I am hoping I won't have any compatibility issues with iPhoto 4.0.3. Sure, it would have been smart to check this out in advance, but, frankly, I would have bought the same camera either way. Does anyone know if I will have to upgrade iPhoto? And, am I correct in assuming I need to get the full iLife upgrade in order to get iPhoto 6?

    Hi Tyra,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I hope you like that camera, my girlfriend's dad has one. I have only heard great things about it. Anyways, I am not sure if the Nikon D50 is compatible with iPhoto 4, but I know iPhoto 6 will. You won't have to download any drivers in, just plug and import. I suggest upgrading to iPhoto 6 (Comes solely with iLife '06). Check it out, I bet you will be impressed.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon
PS I am getting a Minolta 5D soon and I like RAW imaging capabilities for the new iPhoto.

  • Nikon D50 and IPhoto

I am thinking for buying the Nikon D50.
Does it work OK with IPhoto 6?
Also does it handle RAW images? I have looked through old discussions and only found old ones that were inconclusive.
Any views on the camera itself?
    Many thanks,
    Phil.

    Tian,
I have new D50 and trying to determine what RAW converter and post processing program to use. You say Iphoto6 handles RAW just fine. Is that not the case for Iphoto5? I know I can't import them, or am I doing something wrong? And if I did use Iphoto6, what can I do with it? Without PS or some other sophisticated editing tool, will conversion and manipulation of RAW files be noticeably different than JPEG?
    Thanks,
    mike

  • 'Places' feature acting up

    Hey all.
In iPhoto '09, the Places feature seems to be working well enough — I've tagged most of my photos manually since I don't have a GPS-enabled camera. However, though the map view works, the column view doesn't. That's accessible by the little button next to the globe icon in the bottom left of the window. Rather than have 'Europe', 'France', 'Paris' and 'Eiffel Tower' columns, it has... nothing at all. Is this because photos only go in there if they have proper GPS co-ordinates?
    Thanks

Is this because photos only go in there if they have proper GPS co-ordinates?
I don't think so. I too don't have a GPS camera and have entered my own locations. My column views shows country, state, nearest city, and named_Location. However, only those locations for which I have already associated the "pin" with a photo appear. I have entered other locations for later use and these do not show up yet.

  • Aperture 3.6 and iPhoto 9.6 crashes with nikon .nef files (raw format)

I've got a problem with raw files support for my Nikon D700 camera. Even though this camera is listed here: https://www.apple.com/pl/aperture/specs/raw.html both Aperture and iPhoto see .nef files as a white image. If I try to edit one, both apps crash.
How can I get a raw files support in these applications?
I have updated os, apps and even tried to remove and reinstall raw camera bundle as it was described here RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10). No luck.
My OSX is installed on SSD, while iPhoto library is on the secondary HDD drive.

Norbert, I cannot find the post you are referring to.
Have you had the problem with Aperture 3.6? This is surprising, since the Aperture 3.6 released is supposed to fix this bug, see the release Notes: Aperture 3.6 Release notes
    Aperture 3.6 Update
Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.
Do you remember, which of the presets in Library/Application Support actually is causing the problem, since deleting all of them is causing a lot of work to restore the custom settings? It would be great to know the specific file.

  • Places feature in iPhoto '09 superrr slow! Help!

I've got a very big problem. Places feature in iPhoto 09 is so slow. The thing is that I thought that this problem was caused by slow computer.... I previouslu owned iMac Core Duo. But now I bought the newest one... Alu Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz... And I'm still occuring this problem? Is it possible that there is some error with my library? I exported it from my previous system and selected it on my new Mac when I was starting iPhoto for the first time (with alt button). Can anyone help me? I would be grateful.

Just a few questions to get us started: When you say that you exported your library from your previous system did you copy/transfer the whole of the folder iPhoto Library to the new system without making any modifications to it? How many photos have you in your library? Are you using the same version of iPhoto? You might try some of the rebuild option available when restarting iPhoto while holding down alt and cmd.

I have prepared an 82 page book on iPhoto, ready to buy. There is a message over about half the photos saying "drag photo to place in background" as if it doesn't see the photo already there. I have spent over 20 hours getting to this point and can't bear to start over! Its a Mac 08X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 08  7.1.5. I have made other iBooks on this software and computer with no problems. Help please!

Look for a page that has a similar layout:

  • Lion and iPhoto and Nikon Camera

Hello. I don't know if this is a Lion or iPhoto problem. So I'm posting this here. I have a Nikon Coolpix 990 camera. I took some photos today. When I attempted to import the photos to my iMac (2009, i7) running Lion with iPhoto 09 version 8.1.2, the camera wasn't recognized and I could not import my photos. However, when I connected the camera to my Macbook Pro late 2008 running Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8 and iPhoto 08 version 7.1.5, the camera was recognized and the import was successful. I rebuilt my iMac's iPhoto library but I have not attempted to sync my camera to it as I deleted the photos. Why was I unable to import the photos to my iMac?
    zoz

The pictures were able to be uploaded to iPhoto using a card reader. Apparently, in Lion, support from Nikon is no longer provided.

  • I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto and cannot get the Places map to let me fix a position on the map. It remains disabled for my photo. Checking out the Help file has not given any solution.

I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto  and cannot get the Places map tp show. I have tried the Help file and the information was not helpful. Can anyone give advice here?

I am using iPhoto 9.1.1. When I select thephoto, then Places I get the window (Places to lookup disabled). When I hit theInfo button I get the size an JPEG notification, and  Faces and Key words. The “reverse” of thepicture shows a window with Rotate, Hide, Trash etc.
When I select Places, get the Google worldmap, and this case a pin on Sydney Australia showing that eighteen photos arecorrectly placed. I am unable to make the connection to San Francisco wherethis particular photo was taken on a very modern camera.

  • Aperture and iPhoto

I have been following some of the discussion on Aperture and iPhoto. I have not yet purchased Aperture but am seriously considering it. I am attracted to the extensive edits that can be done in Aperture yet I still like the slide show function in iPhoto. It seems that only iPhoto has the one function I would like to use on occasion, the Ken Burns Effect. My questions:
    1. If I shoot RAW images (Nikon NEF) can I place edited images from Aperture into the iPhoto slideshow (which I like because of the Ken Burns Effect)? Will I have to convert them to jpeg?
    2. If I shoot jpeg images will I have any limits in editing in Aperture, such as highlight and shadow adjustments, dodge and burn adjustments, and white balance adjustments?
    3. Is my understanding correct that "camera settings" can only be modified in RAW files and that RAW files can not be used in slide shows?
I would appreciate any assistance to aid my understanding of the interaction iPhoto and Aperture, mainly the slide show features.

    1. If I shoot RAW images (Nikon NEF) can I place edited images from Aperture into the iPhoto slideshow (which I like because of the Ken Burns Effect)? Will I have to convert them to jpeg
In the Aperture Preferences there's an option to Share the Previews with iLife and iWork applications. In iPhoto you can go File -> Show Aperture Library and a media browser will open. You can drag the images from the Media Browser to the iPhoto Window and they will be imported. Then you can make your Slideshow.
    2. If I shoot jpeg images will I have any limits in editing in Aperture, such as highlight and shadow adjustments, dodge and burn adjustments, and white balance adjustments?
Yes, but not because of Aperture. A jpeg is a compressed file, data has been thrown away to make it. Therefore there's less data to manipulate so the range of effect possible is less. Think of it this way: Draft a paper of 50 pages. Rewrite it down to 10 pages. Now try and have the same range of editing on the 10 page doc as you had on the 50 page doc. Nothing to do with your word processor, just less words to process...
    3. Is my understanding correct that "camera settings" can only be modified in RAW files and that RAW files can not be used in slide shows?
I don't know about Camera Settings but the Aperture manual says (pg510) that to make a high quality slideshow be sure to use high resolution previews - which rather suggests that it's the Previews and not the RAWs that are used in the show.

  • Mail and iPhoto integration not working

Very frustrating! I am using OS 10.4.5, iPhoto 5.0.4 and Mail 2.0.7. When I select a picture on a slideshow in Mail to send to iPhoto, it looks like it's being sucked up and iPhoto opens but the picture does not appear in the Library of the iPhoto application. I have plenty of room on both programs. I have reinstalled iPhoto. Nothing seems to work. Anyone out there have an answer. I think it sounds like a great feature - if it works!

    Joan,
Since you apparently have leftover files, and they have likely become problematic, let me give you full standard language I often post about this:
If your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in Panther, I want you to read the article at the link below, and perhaps get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. It is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder.
Furthermore, in a pre-conversion to Tiger mailbox, the only file that really mattered, in regard to message content, was the file "mbox". In a mailbox properly created and established in Tiger, the only thing that really matters is the folder named Messages.
Thus, if you are able to compare the size of both the mbox file and the Messages folder, at the time of conversion (a mailbox trying to have it both ways), and they are approximately the same size, then you can reasonably conclude everything was converted. There are some very minor exceptions to this comparative analysis, but it basically holds. In such a case, you can delete the mbox file, or at least separate it from the xxxxx.mbox folder.
If you have a copy of a xxxxx.mbox folder with only a mbox file, or if any mbox file it contains is much larger than any Messages folder present, then it may worth trying an import command to check. If you make a new folder on your Desktop, for example, and then place the mbox file from a copy of the original mailbox into the folder, subsequently rename the folder to have the extension, .mbox, you can then import it into Mail 2.0, by targeting it, and saying it is a mailbox of type "Other" rather than type "OSX". If you do this, one at a time to avoid confusion, you can then access the imported mailbox, examine the messages, and transfer any you believe you need. At the same time, if you maintain the currently in-use mailbox, now altered to only have a Messages folder, you will have that to access as well.
If mailboxes in account folders do not convert properly during the upgrade to Tiger, then you don't use Import to recreate any mailboxes found in account folders, but rather only import to be added as On My Mac mailboxes.
I hope this is somewhat clear, but you may want to post more explicitly what files (by name and size) that you found inside your INBOX.mbox folder, and any other xxxxx.mbox folders.

  • Aperture and iphoto together

I have all of my photos on an external hard drive and linked with iphoto as of now. I have now imported my iphoto library into aperture. Not to sure if that was the correct thing to do? Now I want to use aperture to do my Metadata and adjustments on my photos...? Will these adjustments and metadata I am adding show up in iphoto as well? I have noticed when I try Delete Master Image and All Versions in Aperture I still see the photos in iphoto?
    Appreciate your input everyone
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Just for sharing my experiences:
In view of nice Face/Place features, Iphoto 09 is my main application (i.e. all photos are imported first to iphoto). Then with the understanding that Aperture 2 is now better integrated with iphoto and with much powerful editing features, I bought Aperture 2 recently. Then I tried to test export a dozen photos from iphoto to Aperture 2 and found that all information on the date photos were taken had been reset to 01/01/2001 (meaning that one cannot risk exporting all photos with date information lost totally). Then when I figured if Iphoto 09 and Aperture 2 are really well integrated, I could use Aperture 2 as main application instead. Then I test exported some photos from Aperture 2 to Iphoto and found that all photo sizes were trimmed down to below 1MB (even all settings were adjusted to original Jpeg size).
Now since both applications display imperfect integration performance I have to use Iphoto 09 as main application with Aperture 2 used only occasionally for editing specific photos.
Appreciate views to overcome these issues.
