Nikon P7000 and .NRW in Lightroom 3.2

I just got the new Nikon Coolpix P7000- and Lightroom seems does not seem tor recognize its RAW .nrw images. Is this a known issue? If so, is there a workaround?

Cornelia-I wrote: Hi clvrmnky,I do not quite agree that you always need a DSLR for shooting raw consistently.Of course that is the preferred way.
Raws  from a Canon G12 are phenomenal. I had read a few people say there's no  reason to bother with raws on a compact... - I disagree. There may have  been no reason to bother with raws on the Canon SX1 with a 14MP 1/2.3"  CMOS sensor (which Canon pulled off the market, presumably due to  embarassingly poor image quality, that and it wasn't selling well at a  price point well into DSLR territory), but the G12 raws & Lightroom  were a match made in heaven! - especially with Adobe Standard profile.  Interestingly enough, the camera profiles aren't too swift, yet -  granted, the camera is not officially supported yet (uses G11 profiles).
Anyway, when I don't want selective focus, I'm not  shooting things that are moving around too fast (especially in low  light), or I'm shooting macros of things that don't mind me getting in  their face (and if I don't mind a wider field-of-view for those macros,  and the lens won't block all the light), I can get just as good results  with the Canon G12 as I can with my Nikon D300, if not better.
Stopping a D300 down to f22 (or f36...) to take a macro that I could  get with a G12 at f2.8 (or 4.0...)  just doesn't make sense to me -  unless you really like using tripods and really don't like sharp  macros. Again, if you want more focus selectivity and you're not going  to stop it down past f16 or so then the table turns again...
Likewise,  "2D" landscapes (meaning uniform non-selective focus) taken with the  G12 at ISO-80 have suprising image quality, dynamic range, colors, ...,  and are tack sharp - edge-to-edge, corner-to-corner - minimal  vignetting... Literally better than a D300 except maybe if you have a  standard focal length FX lens on it, or a $2000+ pro wide angle lens  (I'm guessing here - I don't own any of those).
And if you want something really close and really far away to be sharp in focus - you have to shoot it with a G12 - you can't get it with a D300.
Don't  get me wrong - I "love" my D300 for taking photos of birds fluttering  about before the sunrise, with the lens open wide and the ISO cranked  up, and for isolating subjects from a busy background..., or creative  macros... But, right tool for the right job, ya know...
PS  - Substitute your favorite high-end compact for the G12 (I'm sure the P7000 is just as nice - same sensor / great lens...), and your  favorite DSLR for the D300 (adjusting aperture considerations  accordingly)...
PPS - Cornelia - you're welcome. And,  you can start using those S95 raws in Lightroom right-away, with a  little help from exiftool and/or the importer.

  • Nikon P7000 and Aperture with latest RAW support

    Hi,
Does anybody have the same issues with RAW files from the Nikon P7000 in Aperture with the latest RAW support update?
Aperture is showing the wrong ISO and not the 35mm zoom length.
    It's showing always 6400 ISO.
    Regards,
    JO

I can confirm that. The EXIF seems to be wrong, no matter which software you use to read it. Happens only with full auto iso selected it seems. Unfortunately not only does the actual iso not match the EXIF value, the auto iso algorithm seems to have flaws aswell. In brightest sunlight we have experienced actual iso values of probably at least 3200 if not 6400 choosing a ridiculous values of f/2.8 with 1/1000s in P mode.... My D7000 chose something around iso 125 under he exact same conditions.... So yet another firmware update for the P7000 is hopefully on it's way - other than that: really great camera that could replace my d7000 if carrying the DSLR is impossible.

  • Nikon P7000 and LR 2.7....

i know the latest version of camera raw supports my new little camera (nikon p7000) but i'm using lr 2.7. is there a way to get 2.7 and/or pse 8 which i also use to recognize the raw versions from the p7000? in other (more concise) words, will the latest version of camera raw work with lr 2.7? thanks!

The DNG Converter is a stand-alone program that is used to convert an entire directory of RAWs to DNGs.  After you do that then LR will import the DNGs just as if they were RAWs it could understand.

  • Is it possible for one camera to work and one not in lightroom and be a lightroom issue? Nikon says

My son and I purchased Nikon D7100s.  Mine works fine.  He was having trouble getting his raw files into lightroom 4.4.  He came over to my house and used my computer still having the same issues.  He can read the raw fine in ViewNX2 but not in his lightroom, my lightroom or elements 11.  Nikon says it is an issue with Adobe...Is this possible?  He is probably going to return the camera...

    Strange coincidence:
Earlier this evening I was on the Exiftool homepage to download a new version. And I noticed a repair tool I had never seen before and have no use for since I don't own a Nikon camera. And then I came here and saw your thread...
You may want to try the tool here:
    http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
Phil Harvey only writes that it repairs file from D4, D600, D800, D800E and D3200. But it is worth trying anyway, I think. If it doesn't work, contact him. He often implements changes very fast.
Your son may also want to consider if he should continue using Nikon software to download the photos from the camera. This excerpt from the above mentioned link doesn't sound very reassuring:
[Note that Nikon doesn't learn from their mistakes, and a similar problem happened 2 years ago with an older version of Nikon Transfer and the D5000 -- read here. The moral is: Don't use Nikon Transfer or any other utility that modifies the file to download your precious images!]

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.

  • Nikon D800 and Lightroom

I have Lightroom 3 currently and updated to 3.6
I purchased the Nikon D800 and shoot my images with the RAW setting. However, these images will not transfer to Lightroom. I was told that I need Lightroom 4 in order to be able to transfer RAW images.
Is this 100% accurate? I do not want to purchase Lightroom 4 assuming this will be the answer.
PLEASE if someone could respond ASAP that would be great.

So if I purchase the Lightroom 4 software, my RAW files WILL transport from my Nikon D800?
Yes, as per the link provided by twenty_one above.
I get the teacher/student discount. Is L4 downloadable online or should I order it from Amazon, etc.?

  • I have a Nikon D750 and can't get lightroom to download my images.  I have the most recent software update, what now//

Has anyone else had the problem where you can't download your NIKON d750 raw images to lightroom??  I have the latex version of software, don't know what to do??  Anyone help?

Like Rikk said, the latest version of Lr should import those D750 raws. So if it isn't, you need to put on your Sherlock Holmes hat and start trouble-shooting.
That said, one common reason you can't import Nikon files that should be importable is they've been molested by Nikon Transfer, or older version of Nikon View.., more info here:
    Fix Corrupted Nikon NEF Images
If you want, you can post a link to one of your D750 files so others can try to import (or conversely, download a known importable D750 file and see if you can import it).

  • Cannot open in Aperture file nrw from nikon P7000

Hi, I cannot open in Aperture, file nrw raw from nikon P7000,

According to the support document, the Nikon is supported with 10.6.7 or Camera RAW Update 3.6:
    Nikon D7000
    Nikon COOLPIX P7000
Do you have 10.6.7 with minimum Camera RAW Update 3.6 or 3.7?

I just received a Nikon D750 and am unable to import my RAW files into Lightroom. I recognizes them in the first step but will not download them. I shoot in RAW and have done the 5.6 update.

As I said, you can import your DNGs into Lightroom.

  • Nikon D7000 and Lightroom and Elements

I just purchased a Nikon D7000 and cannot open RAW images in Lightroom 2 or Elements 7.  I have been using these 2 programs successfully with images from my Nikon D70s.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

You need Lightroom 3.3 or Elements 9 to process Nikon D7000 raw photos.
An alternative is to download the DNG Converter (version 6.3) and convert your D7000 .NEF files to DNG, in which case your versions of Elements and Lightroom will be able to process the DNG photos.

  • Nikon D5500 and Lightroom  RAW file

Just got my Nikon D5500 and Lightroom will not recognize the RAW file.  Does anyone know of an available update?

AT THIS TIME, the only way to use D5500 RAWs is to use the software supplied by Nikon, convert them to TIF, and import those into Lightroom.
At some point in the future, Lightroom should be able to import the D5500 RAWs directly, but no one knows when that will be. Possibly 2-3 months, but I have no inside information, I could be totally wrong.

  • LR lens profile for Nikon P7000?

I cannot find a profile in LR 3.3 for the Nikon P7000.  The P6000 comes up, but no P7000.  3.3 supports the NRW files from the P7000.  Can anyone give me a hand?
    Thanks very much . .
    Jack

Your computer has the same operating system as mine so there shouldn't be an issue with file paths being different for that reason.
You should only see the P7000 lens profile when you edit RAW/NRW files, not JPGs.  Please confirm that when editing an NRW from a P7000 you cannot locate a "NIKON COOLPIX P7000" profile in the list (at the bottom of about 50 Nikon profiles) when Nikon is selected as the "Make".  Also confirm you do see a screen-full of profiles, not just one or two.  Do this in LR 3.4 RC.
Please locate the P6000 lens-profile (.lcp) files that you can see in the list on your hard drive using Windows Explorer and the paths given, earlier.  If you can't find them, please be specific about what part of the path does not work or what part of the process doesn't work.  If you don't understand some part of these instructions for locating the lens-profile files, say what part.  Saying you cannot find them is not enough information.  By locating the Nikon lens profiles we can verify if the file are missing or if something else is wrong.  I would also like to see the dates of the profile files to understand how long ago they were installed.
You should be using the start-menu/start-button and opening Computer (or My Computer), then copy-pasting each path, in turn, to the address area and hitting Enter or perhaps click on the right-arrow at the right end of the address area.  If copy-pasting the full path in the address area doesn't work, try part of it and add the foldernames one-by-one until you can't get to part of it and say what part that is.
