Nikon Support for raw

I have a Nikon D 50 and and confused as to whether I can open raw files with Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Mac. On the list of cameras supported there's an asterisk for Nikon. Do I need to buy the Nikon software for raw to open in PE?
Here's the note for Nikon in the camera's supported list:
*The file encryption found in some Nikon raw formats has caused some users to question the level of cooperation between Nikon and Adobe in providing solutions for raw processing. Get more information about Nikon's and Adobe's joint commitment to our common customer needs.

I have Mac 4.0 and a Nikon D200.
NIKON RAW support is fantastic for this very inexpensive program. They give you a terrific plug-in to pull in the files and make adjustments, then convert to .jpg for editing. Please note that is the way it works; you open the file first with the plug-in and do your preliminary adjustments (white balance for example) then open in PS to fine tune and enhance.
iPhoto doesn't support the D200 yet so this helped a lot.

  • Support for RAW Video and Image Sequences

Being a stills photographer who moved into video some years back, I'm very interested in the direction Lightroom is going with regards to video support. I haven't tried it yet but I wondered if LR4 supports Red R3D files? And would it perhaps support other future RAW video formats from the likes of Canon and Sony? It would seem like the perfect application, perhaps intergrating with Premiere in a similar way to RedCine with FCP. Be great to be able to log footage, orginize it into bins and do basic colour correction in LR, edit the project in Premiere and re-touch in After Effects.
Another task LR would seem ideally suited to is combining image sequences into timelapse video. Shooting timelapse as an image sequence on a DSLR is pretty much standard practice these days; and I've used LR to colour correct, crop and scale my sequences (before fitting them together in Quicktime) for years now. It would be fantastic to be able to preview the clip and export the video (as DPX, ProRes or DNxHD) from within Lightroom.
These are obviously fairly long term wishes. In the short term though, the video features are pretty much useless to me without support for exporting ProRes and DNxHD files. With this LR becomes a powerful asset manager that could be used to collect together footage from multiple sources/codecs and transcode it all for editing. As mentioned in a previous thred, XML support would make it even more useful in this context. There is definitly a gap in the market for an application than can handle this kind of task well.
With other manufactures floundering or neglecting their professional user base, Adobe would seem poised to take the video post crown. I wonder if Lightroom could be part of the takeover?

As I understand it Andy, its intention is to remain a photographers program, not a videographers program.  The basic video features are available for lightweight management of videos coming from digital cameras, but it's not going too much further than that at this point in time.  Of course that may change in the future, but we'll all have to wait and see on that one.

  • HT203088 Support for RAW for format in Samsung NX30

Have just acquired Samsung NX30 Smart camera. Have Aperture 3.6. Upload RAW files?
    Have Yosemite 10.10.3

Larry, thx for the clarity. I didn't realize asking about future directions was a no-no here.
I since found an Apple document indicating support for the Leica D-LUX 3 and RAW format in an OS 10.4.10(?) release. I think I'll have to drag my Mac to the camera store, take a few pics with the D-LUX 3, attempt to sync and see if/how the RAW images come over, and then advise here on if it worked with OS 10.5.2 and iPhoto '08.

  • Elements support for RAW with Sony RX10

How do you get raw files open with Elements 12.
    I have a RX 10  Sony.
Downloaded the newest DRG.  Didn't work.
Can open with other programs but not Adobe.
    Help.

What operating system are you using?
If you go to Help>Updates from within the photoshop elements 12 editor, that should get you camera raw 8.5, which seems to open those files.
It's not clear from the page that most people look at, when support for that camera was added.

  • 7D MKII support for Raw conversion

When will adobe be updating camera raw support for the 7d MKII?  there is no support for CR2 files from the 7D MKII currently.

When is support for the OM-D EM5 MarkII for RAW files available? I finally have the camera on hand but can't use RAW in Lightroom 5.7

There is currently a plugin for the 40MP High-Resolution RAW images from the OMD E-M5 II. It's early in development but I've been using it with great success! There's a link to download it in the description of this video on YouTube. These High-Res images are incredible quality! I'm loving this. Please note that this plugin only works for images taken in RAW with the High-Res setting, and not the normal RAW images.

  • Support for RAW with Olympus XZ-1

    Hi Everyone,
I just recently purchased an Olympus XZ1 to add to my collection of digital cameras (have a Canon SD800 ELPH and EOS Rebel XSi).  I just purchased the camera about 3 weeks ago, and never bothered to research the compatibility, as I assumed Aperture was good to go.  Silly me!  I just got back from vacation and began attempting to upload the images to Aperture, and received the "unsupported format" error message.
I started researching this issue online, and I have seen this question asked, but all of the questions and answers were from May and earlier.  Since technology changes on a daily basis, I figured I would ask it again.
From everything I have read, it appears as though support for the Olympus XZ-1 did not come out until Digital Camera Raw 3.7.  So my assumption is that I would need to upgrade from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 in order to be able to use Aperture with my new Olympus XZ1.  Can someone confirm that for me?
Thank you all for your time!
    Jeff

Lion is 10.7, Snow Lepoard is 10.6, Leopard is 10.5.
I woul strongly recomend you update to 10.6.8 (the last snow lepoard update) for a number of reasons. First 10.6.8. is a solid OS at this point you won't have to many (or any) gotcha's. Second Leopard (10.5.x) is going away. Pretty sure there will be no more updates for it at this point. If not it won't be long before that happens. Also you will need to have 10.6.8 installed in the event you want to at some point upgrade to Lion.
But finally perhaps the most important point if you don't have 10.6.8 you can't acess the App Store and if you can;t acess the App Store you will need to get the boxed version of Aperture 3. The differerence in price between the boxed version and the App Store version will more then pay for the upgrade to Snow Leopard. In fact you should have  a fair bit of change left over.
    good luck

  • Aperture support for RAW Nikon D600.

Just bought the latest Nikon D600 and when loading RAW images, I'm getting a "Format not supported" error.  It reads the JPEG just fine but not the RAW.  I also have a Nikon D3S and it reads the RAW images just fine.  I'm currently on Aperture V3.2.
    Thanks

    Danl1,
This is the way it works with every new camera that comes out.
Untill Apple and Adobe and PhaseOne get a final production sample in their hands, they cannot write the code neccessary to process the RAW files from any manufacturer.
Some camera makers provide this information pre-release, but most tend to be pretty secretive right up to the end.
So the solution is to shoot JPG or convert RAW in Nikon's software for the next 2 weeks or so, and by then Aperture and Lightroom and CaptureOne will be up to speed.
Enjoy your new camera... it looks great!

  • No Nikon D50 support for Raw?

I've seen the "squeaky wheel" post about the D70s RAW files not being supported and it seems that it's the same for the D50.
This is pretty ridiculous. Anyone know any more info about this??
Come on Apple...work with us here!

I am new to digital photography, but (if it is not too naive), here is a further thought: it would obviously be highly desirable for Apple to catch up with Nikon and issue a version of iPhoto that will handle raw files from the D50 camera. But in the meantime, if one connects the camera to the computer and opens the disk image that appears, one can copy individual files (including raw files) to the desktop. Then applications like Graphic Converter or the latest version of VueScan will open them. Once they have been edited, they can be converted to JPEG and added to the iPhoto library.

  • Support for RAW photo files under iOS8

I have an iPad Mini 2 which I've been using as a temporary back up of the JPEG and NEF raw files from my Nikon DSLR while I'm traveling.  When I got home, I would always transfer the backup photos from the iPad to my Mac Pro.  This worked flawlessly when I had iOS 7 installed on the iPad.  However,  it has stopped working now that I've (accidentally) upgraded my iPad to iOS 8.1.   I can still download my JPEG backup files from the iPad to the Mac, but the download of the raw files fails every time with a system error message.  It fails whether I try to download the photos in iPhoto, Lightroom, or even Image Capture...the error message is always the same.  From the size of the raw image file on the iPad (42 MB), I know it's not just a null/empty file of 0 MB in size.  Has anyone else experienced this problem since upgrading to iOS 8 on their iPads?  Can anyone sugge a fix for my problem?  On the Mac Pro I'm running OS 10.9.5, Mavericks, not Yosemite.

Here's more information on this issue.
As an experiment, instead of loading my photo files onto my iPad Mini via Apple's camera kit (the memory card reader), I emailed myself two test files, one JPEG and one NEF.  I opened the email msg on my iPad and saved both files to the iPad.   Both files showed up in the Photos app.  I then brought up Image Capture on my Mac and used it to transfer the files over from the iPad.  This worked perfectly and both the JPEG and the raw NEF copied over correctly to the Mac.  What this suggests is that the problem is probably isolated and occurs only when the raw files are copied from the memory card using the Apple dongle.
I've been in touch with Apple Support and had two on-line chats with them so far.  The issue has now been kicked over to the "engineers" (not sure exactly what that means).  They are now aware of the problem but I received no other information.   It might help if you also contacted Apple Support to let them know more than one person is experiencing the same problem.
