Nikon to IPhoto to Snapfish

I got a new Nikon digital camera (D40) and a macbook pro pretty much at the same time and tried to upload my pictures to snapfish (via iphoto) but for some reasons even thought the quality of the pictures was really good in the camera, by the time it gets to snapfish the resolution is scarily low and my pictures are more than disappointing.
Has anybody experienced the same thing?
Any idea where it is coming from?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you uploading the photos to Snapfish? If you're taking the photos from the Data folder in the library package then that's the reason. Those are the thumbnail files. See TD's treatis on file access for ways to access your full sized image files for use outside of iPhoto.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I am making an album with Snapfish and would like to download some of my photos from iphoto to Snapfish, is this possible?

    You mean "upload"?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Iphoto and snapfish

I am trying to upload photos from my iphoto library to snapfish.com and when I click "upload now" to choose photos, everything on my computer BUT iphoto library comes up-in my pictures folder, the only thing in there is photobooth--I cannot figure out how to transfer iphoto library albums to snapfish.

It has been thought that the iMAC Leopard OS is too far advanced to use the online program SNAPFISH and upload photo images with ease, unlike the PC. NOT!
Here, then, is the Plan Of Action.. Once your photos have been uploaded to iPhoto and placed into Albums, then you can make adjustments: ie Crop, Enhance, Retouch, Straighten and otherwise fiddle with things, and then LATER order Snapfish prints later via your iMAC.
Keep the Originals on the camera’s memory chip for a few days if necessary. For sure make an Archive on a CD.
Rename, retouch, enhance those photos if necessary, HOWEVER DO NOT CROP!
When you are totally satisfied, then copy the acceptable photos over into a NEW Photos Snapfish Folder on the iMac desktop. Simply Right-Click on the iMac desktop, create a folder, and name it.. Like: *Photos for Snapfish..* Something clever..
Then, Whilst in your iMac computer, launch Snapfish via SAFARI, and upload those photos you want FROM that nifty folder on your desktop.
Do not even think of going to Windows for iMac and then to the Internet and then Snapfish.
Whilst in Snapfish, make sure you FIX and ENHANCE (crop) those uploaded photos. Then and only then, do you crop. Unfortunately, Snapfish is a limited program and cropping is just not that sophisticated.
Then, back to the iMac for final cropping of the original photos, (etc) You still have the Originals.
Hope this works for you, it does for me. Lapaka

Should be fairly easy. Have a look at 'More like this' on the right of this page.

  • Using iPhoto and Snapfish

I am trying to use Snapfish (www.snapfish.com) to share my photos with others and keep getting the message:
"The page “Snapfish: Upload Pictures” has content of MIME type “application/x-photocenter-upload”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed."
Any ideas what this means or what I need to do to be able to use Snapfish? Thanks!

  • IPhoto 09 and Nikon's NEF format

I have a Nikon D90, iPhoto 06, Aperture 2.1.4, and run OS 10.6. I cannot import my Nikon's NEF files into iPhoto 06. I can upload and view them in Aperture.
If I upgrade to iPhoto 09, will I be able to upload and view them?

  • Iphoto 11  9.3.2 installed + Nikon D200

I have iphoto 11  9.3.2 installed. When I connect my Nikon D200 iPhoto fails to recognise the camera is connected although the camera shows activity to PC. Any bright ideas ?

Can you access the camera with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?

  • I have tried everything but iphoto won't export to snapfish.  It says check network connection, but I am clearly connected to the internet, email and everything works.  I have updated the software reset the PRAM, restarted a million times, please help me!

every time I try to export photos from mac mini iphoto to snapfish is says check network connection, but the internet is working great.  I have updated everything i can think of please help.

Several people including myself are having the same issue and have contacted HP and Apple. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it's been an issue for so long being that photos uploaded to Snapfish = $$$.  Lets hope they can work this one out, as of now, there apparently is no solution.

Here's a photo of the same issue for the experts troubleshooting the problem out there.

  • I have a new Nikon S6300 camera and can import photos from the camera to iPhoto without loading camera software program. However, I can't get the photos to go into an event or into the photos part of iPhoto like they have done with my Canon camera.

Is there are problem between Nikon and iPhoto program as I can get photos to go beyond the "last import" stage.

If you have imported the photos then they are in an Event or Photos because every photo is in these places.
Select a pic in Last Import and Right-Click on it. Choose 'Show Event' from the menu. This will bring you to the Event containing the photo.
If the photo is in Last Import, then the photo is in the Library somewhere,  just not where you expect it to be. Usual causes: the date on your camera is wrong, and so the date on the photo is wrong, or the sorting of the Events has changed (View Menu -> Sort Events)

  • Snow Leopard conflict with Nikon Picture Project

Since installing Snow Leopard, I cannot run Nikon Picture Project. When I attempt to start the program, the Picture Project icon appears activated, but the application shuts down before it ever opens. How do I resolve this? I have several picture projects saved within this application and want to access them.

Ditto. Quite frustrating. So, okay, I need to use a new product and move my photos into it. However, I'd like to retain my photos, exactly as organized in folders and albums, as well as its data (camera type, focus, white balance etc.). How can I do that? I tried copying into iphoto, but I can't keep all the detail I need. Do you know what product, Nikon or otherwise, free preferably, would take my old photos out of picture project easily?
Any help would be very appreciated,
    Marisa
Hi t_lscneider & welcome to discussions.
I found the same - while I wait for Nikon to update (rumored to happen in 01/10), I've fallen back on just using the latest Nikon Transfer & iPhoto.

  • Why does iPhoto grab ALL my pictures?

Since I started downloading pictures from my iPhone and Nikon Cameras iPhoto grabs every picture I try to look at in my files and "imports" it.  Those from the cameras are already in the iPhoto Library and I really don't want all my old photos in there (I have tons).
They used to just open on what ever page I was on and when I downloaded them it was with Preview.  Can I disenfranchise (giggle) iPhoto?  I know very little about photography/graphics and it's in and outs but I do like to look at my pictures from time to time without having to make a federal case of the process.  Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi LarryHN, you admonish me:
    "You post is very confusing
"waht version of iPhoto do your have?
             --See above Post/Picture!
"What exactly do you mean by
as they seem to indiscrimently pick pictures andautomatically import them.
"Are  there photos on your hard drive?
--".... I've been checking my pictures files and opening them to view, ..." (see original post)
"On your camera? In DropBox? Where  exactly are they?
"And by importing them are you saying that after this  happens you have two or more copies of exactly the same photo in iPhoto?
--I am not importing them, iPhoto is abducting them when I open them -in my files- and      iPhoto is importing them automatically without asking me and without my permission.  I      don't check for duplicates I just don't want them in iPhoto.
"Doe  this happen every time you launch iPhoto?
I have, at no time during this fiasco, launched iPhoto.  It automatically (do you need a      definition of the word?) imports them even though they've been in my files for years (2007      for instance).
"when you import form yoru  camera?
--It never happened when I was importing from my camera.  iPhoto only imported the      photos I was importing.
    "from your iPhone?
I don't import from my iPhone!  I download to my Desktop files through Preview and file      them in my pictures files.
"When you drag photos form the internet to  iPhoto?
I don't drag pictures to iPhoto, i drop them onto my Desktop.
"When you drag photos form disk to iPhoto?
I don't drag pictures from disk to iPhoto.  At least I haven't so far.
"We can not see you or your computer so we need clear, concise informatiion and exact work flows to help
         --Has this helped?
    "And yes
    I'm rambling here
"You are - without providing needed details
--Did you indeed read the details of my post or did my confession of confusion endow you      with the right to excoriate me without bothering to search out the details?
I do appreciate your attempt to help but I do not appreciate your scorn at my admission of ignorance.

  • When I pull up iphoto to download pics, email, view, anything, I immediately get the 'colorful spinning wheel'....what do I do? Thanks!

I have been downloading all photos from my Nikon to iphotos. Recently I have not been able to get into my iphotos for anything. I pull it up and immediately the colorful spinning wheel appears and I can't do a thing. The only way I have been able to get out of it, is by turning my mac off and restarting. As soon as I go into it again, the wheel repairs and I have let it stay on for hours and it doesn't clear it either. Can anyone help? Thanks! M

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
