NIS client lookup for NIS master server problem

Dear All,
I have solaris OS 10 installed on NIS master and slave server and also client. Sometimes, my client cannot work properly. Although it is configured to lookup for NIS master as the server, it lookup for slave server instead occasionally. It will be alright after reboot. Please advise.
Any help is much appreciated.
best regards
vlsi

I'm not sure why you would want the client to not bind to the slave and only to the master. That's the whole point of having slave servers.
Just rerun ypinit -c on the client if you want to change which server the client binds to.
If your slave server is not working right, fix it.

  • Work around for iPhone POP3 Server Problems

    A common problem that people seem to be having (checking other discussion forums) is that once an e-mail account is active on the iPhone, they have real problems sending e-mails for that account from their Mac or PC. I had that problem too. After some technical research, here is the cause:
    1. Your e-mail service provider's POP3 server runs a simple UNIX protocol that only allows a single client to access it at a time - i.e. the PC/MAC mail client or the mobile device, but never both at the same time.
    2. Provided that the PC/MAC mail client and the mobile mail client don't access the POP3 server too often and that they are quick, then it's not a problem.
    3. If they check too often or are slow to release the POP3 server, then obviously the probability of clashes and lockouts increases.
    4. There is quite a bit of discussion on the web that points to the iPhone not releasing the POP3 server quickly - in fact it can hang on for a long time
    5. This results in the PC e-mail client reporting incorrect password constantly, driving you nuts (that's tech talk)
    BUT HERE IS A SIMPLE, FLAWLESS WORKAROUND:
    1. You create a new e-mail account for myself (either with your existing provider, or a free provider like gmail)
    2. You configure your main e-mail account to send a copy of incoming e-mails to that new e-mail account (whilst retaining a copy for the main account) - most paid service providers will let you do this.
    3. You do NOT set that new account up on your PC/MAC e-mail client, only on your iPhone. When you do that, in the POP Account Information" panel, you use your main e-mail address and not your new, duplicate address. In the "Incoming MAil Server" section of the set up, you use the username/password of the new, duplicate account. That way you receive stuff from that account, but when you send, it comes from your main account. Cool huh?!
    4. That way, it doesn't matter how long the iPhone hangs on to the account - it's simply a duplicate account that no other client comes along to access. Ever.
    5. Outgoing mail is not a problem, since this fault does not exist with the SMTP server protocol, only with the incoming POP3 server.
    ENJOY!

    Hi Jeff
    Well Jeff, I must bow my head in shame.  I've had this love and  hate relationship with Adobe for many years, and don't even mention the name Matrox in the same sentence or I will go off the wall! However, this is apparently operator error.  Man do I feel like an idiot!  (Sorry Adobe for being so nasty with you.  Peace!)
    The bottom line is, Black Magic does not, and has never claimed to support Encore.
    If I would of read all of the installation instructions I would of seen that.  Here is a list of the 3rd party software that the Intensity pro does support.  I've seen this list several times, but never really looked for Encore in that list of apps.  I guess I just assumed that if it worked in Premiere Pro, that it would also work in Encore especially Since Encore is Married to Premiere Pro.  Then the other thing that helps to confuse the issue is that Black Magic is one of the external options which show up inside Encores Audio/Video output preferences.  One would just assume if it showed up there, that it should work, but that's not the case.
    Third Party Software Support
    • Apple Final Cut Pro 7
    • Apple Motion 4
    • Apple Soundtrack Pro 3
    • Apple Color 1.5
    • Apple DVD Studio Pro 4
    • Apple Final Cut Pro 6.0.5
    • Apple Motion 3.0.2
    • Apple Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2
    • Apple Color 1.0.2
    • Apple DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1
    • Adobe After Effects CS4
    • Adobe Photoshop CS4
    • Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 v3.2
    • Adobe After Effects CS3 8.0.2
    • Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1
    • Steinberg Nuendo 3.2
    • Digidesign Pro Tools 8
    The Intensity pro works fine for an HDMI output device inside of Final Cut though, sure with it would would work in Encore.  I called and spoke with Black Magic Support, they confirmed that I was a idiot.  Oh well, there's always a chance I may not be wrong, got to check it out!  LOL

  • 10.5.1 Client with 10.4.11 Server problems

    I recently updated two clients to 10.5.1 - 1 imac G5 and 1 macbook. I can login to the network home directory fine on the imac, but not the macbook. When connecting via airport, the macbook just hangs at the login. The macbook does work when connected via ethernet. This was not the case with 10.4.11 on the client? Network accounts are available when connecting via airport, but I cannot get it to work? PLease advise.

    I got Server Monitor 1.6 to work with the new Intel Xserve from a client G4 and an Intel iMac. Previously, Server Monitor gave the cannot connect message. I had tried all sorts of things like copying Server Monitor 1.6 from the server to a local computer -- it didn't work for me.
    I recently installed the latest model Xserve which is an Intel processor. Luckily, I had configured Lights Out Management which is a different IP address from the Xserve.
    I added the IP address of the Lights Out Management to Server Monitor and it worked. I was able to see the details of the Xserve such as, temperature, blower speeds, and so on. I could only access the Xserve if I used the Xserve's short administrator name, not the long one. The long name doesn't work but that might be due to my set-up.

  • NIS client problem?

    I have tried to configure an Ultra 45 as a NIS client to a NIS server in our small local network. If i run all configurations when the host is running (non NIS) it all works fine and it connects to the NIS server for host/user/passwd information etc.
    But, when I reboot the host the booting is stopped immediately after writing: "NIS domain name is ...." on the screen.
    The screen goes black and the host is not reachable.
    Anyone had this problem ?
    The Ultra 45 is running Solaris10, but the NIS server is a Solaris 8 host...

    Nevermind - its working now.
    If anybody is having similiar problems, here's a few things to check
    1. Make sure the NIS server is correctly entered in /etc/hosts.
    2. cp /etc/nsswitch.nis to /etc/nsswitch.conf
    3. Run a ypinit -c and specify your NIS server.
    Thanks.

  • Client server problem

    Hallo,
    I have a client server architecture, where the server part is implemented as a SQLJ object in database. Client and server communicate via network sockets. The server process is started by a JDBC call to a member method of a server object.
    Different clients call this method on different stored objects, so there are different server processes, running in different JVMs
    Outside the database, I would realize my architecture with something like that:
    public class Server extends Thread {
      public static void main (String[] args]) {
        ServerSocket listenSocket = null;
        try {
          listenSocket = new ServerSocket(PORT);
        catch (IOException exc) {
        Socket connectedSocket;
        while (true) {
          try {
            connectedSocket = listenSocket.accept();
            Server serverinstanz = new Server (connectedSocket);
            serverinstanz.start();
          catch (IOException exc) {}
    }How I could implement this in a database? The client searches for a special server object in database and wants to connect to it. But not all of theses objects can create a ServerSocket. At the moment the clients themselves create a ServerSocket and the Server connects to them. But this can't be the best solution.
    Thanks, Christian

    Hi Sowmya,
    What i get from your post is, You are trying to install
    1. Repository Server with External Database System.
    2. Business Architect
    and all this three ( Repository server, Database System and Business Architect) are on the same machine.
    I would suggest the following steps.
    1. Install your external Database system (Oracle 10g..) without creating any Database Instance.
    2. Install Repository server Select the third option in datbase which say create a new instance and configure it.
    When you choose the third option Repository server creates a Database instance and configures it for itself.
    3. Install Business Architect with standard database.
    you will get LOCAL server, click on Add server and add our repository server (please dont forget to Start the Repository server before connecting :) ).
    You can do this all on same machine or all on different machines but there may be some firewall issue depending upon your netwrok configuration. so i suggest try n test all this on as same machine first.
    I will be happy to answer any more queries on this topic...

  • Solaris nis client can't connect to Windows 2008 NIS Server across subnets

    I have been using Microsoft Windows Server for NIS for years to centralize some accounts accessing Solaris and Linux OS.
    Windows 2003 R2 Indentity Management for UNIX version of Server for NIS was last working version with Solairs.
    After upgrading Domain to Windows 2008 all Solaris clients that are on different subnets fail to bind and connect to NIS servers now.
    These servers already were setup using ypinit -c to manually add the NIS servers to connect to and prior to Windows 2008 this worked.
    Now no Solaris nis clients on different subnets (no firewall between) can connect , but other Unix/Linux OS connect fine.
    Is this a known issue and can we get a resolution as it seems only Solaris is affected?

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
    Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
    Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
    Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
    "I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
    From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
    If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
    Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
    If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
    We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards

  • NIS: Initializing the master server

    In trying to setup a NIS master server, I took the following steps:

    2. domainname kingfisher.com
    3. domainname > /etc/defaultdomain
    4. /usr/sbin/ypinit -m

    <ejb-local-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/TeamLeaderBeanLocal</ejb-ref-name>

  • NIS client issues with 10.4.x

    Please, will some Apple tech please respond!
    I have used NIS client on OS X for quite a while now, and recently bought more than 50 new iMacs for our school user environment. I rely on NIS to work, and it has in previous version of your OS. (Please don't tell me not to run NIS. I do not have time to set up OD right now, and too much of my network already relies on NIS.)
    The current x86 10.4 release uses a non-linear startup process that causes certain network services not to come up in the right order, and thus rendering a system inoperable. This doesn't exhibit itself consistently, but once a system is on and operable, the problem will not occur, unless the system deep sleeps or is rebooted.
    Help? Can I provide you with anything? Just ask. I will do the best I can. I want to continue loving Apple hardware...

    Hi cmoredock;
    On this forum you are not talking to Apple. You are talking to other users like yourself.

  • Change nis client hostname issues

    Hi All,
    I have changed one nis client hostname from old_hostname to new_hostname in /etc/hosts file on the nis server. After changing, "ping" cannot find new_hostname.domain but find the new_hostname (without domian) and the old_hostname.domain. It seems that the IP node is still occupied by the old_hostname. Do I have to reboot the server or run any command to activate the change? What is wrong with this?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    regards
    vlsi

    With the command " ypmatch new-hostname hosts.byname" it returns " IP new-hostname" but "ypmatch old-hostname hosts.byname" returns "IP old-hostname.domain". Something is wrong here. How to update the hostname plus the domain information is the key problem. Any help?

  • Change NIS client hostname

    Dear All,
    I am trying to change one NIS client hostname but keep its IP unchanged. What I did is changing the hostname in the hosts file of NIS server and changing the hsotname on the client too. With 'ping' command, the new hostname of the client can be recognized only within the domain, but outside the domain the client is still named as the old hostname, after changing its hostname. I don't know how to activate the change .
    Any help would be much appreciated.
