NLB Error: NLB detected duplicate cluster subnets. This may be due to network partitioning

We're running two servers in a datacentre, call them WEB1 and WEB2 in unicast NLB mode.
Each server has a public NIC, the NLB adapter and a private NIC for communication between hosts. We have a VLAN between the public NICs so the cluster IP is routed to both hosts. I can access the Virtual IP just fine, and hosts can talk on the separate private
network. The public NICs are connected up to a Cisco switch with a VLAN between two ports, one for WEB1 and one for WEB2 (all done by the datacentre).
Intermittently on WEB2, I lose connection from my local machine and the Event Logs show multiple:
NLB cluster []: NLB detected duplicate cluster subnets. This may
be due to network partitioning, which prevents NLB heartbeats of one or more
hosts from reaching the other cluster hosts. Although NLB operations have
resumed properly, please investigate the cause of the network partitioning.
WEB1 works just fine and doesn't suffer from these issues. Removing WEB2 from the NLB cluster leaves everything working fine (with just the single WEB1 left).
Perhaps unrelated but for WEB1 & WEB2, the interface metric for the private NIC is 10 while the public NIC is 20 (although 'route print' shows much higher values around 270-300). [seems this is correct according to http://blogs.technet.com/b/tristank/archive/2004/06/08/150734.aspx]
Really hoping someone can help as NLB seems a great solution!
Thanks ever so much

Hi, no luck with this I'm afraid. Both NICs are configured the same, not sure what you mean by the NIC binding order. Cabling is definitely fine.
We're just sticking it out. As this is running on a live set up I had to get things working so put the NLB cluster into Single Host mode with WEB1 as the default host. This meant traffic worked fine while I still had frequent disconnections to WEB2.
After about 24 hours, the error stopped. When anything changes the cluster, ie one of the servers is restarted for updates, it does this error for about 24 hours then settles down.
I have no idea if the Single Host mode is helping this or not - perhaps it just takes 24 hours for it to settle down. Would it also settle down if I wasn't in Single Host mode? No idea and won't try it as its a live set up. Is NLB working properly? Most
probably not! However if WEB1 dies, WEB2 does take over connections all itself and works fine till WEB1 comes back online (requests go back to WEB1) and WEB2 starts to disconnect for the roughly 24 hours.
Anyone from the Microsoft Networking team able to shed any light on this? Please?

  • NLB detected duplicate cluster subnets - Exchange Server 2010 SP3 CU5

    Hi All,
I will explain the environment first,  there are:
    -Two HUB/CAS servers (WNLB)
        --HUBCAS01
        --HUBCAS02
    -Two Mailbox servers (Failover Clustering)
        --MAILBOX01
        --MAILBOX02
*All servers are updated to Exchange Server 2010 SP3 CU5.
The issue is that from recently outlook users are disconnecting from the outlook and cannot be joined to the exchange server unless if I drainstop or stop HUBCAS01. Furthermore, if I start HUBCAS01 from WNLB it will work fine for sometimes yet it will randomly
disconnects outlook users from exchange again (For ex: next day morning).
So far when I search deeper in Event log, there is an warning event log:
Event ID 18: NLB cluster [192.168.*.*]: NLB detected duplicate cluster subnets. This may be due to network partitioning, which prevents NLB heartbeats of one or more hosts from reaching the other cluster hosts. Although NLB operations have resumed properly,
please investigate the cause of the network partitioning.
Now I hope you will provide this link to resolve this issue - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc726421(v=ws.10).aspx
But I don't think that this will resolve this issue, as i have tried this for 3 times, yet no luck. Please help me to resolve this issue permanently. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
The issue is mainly related to the HUBCAS01 server. To deep investigate the issue, you need to take RPCTrace from the Outlook client and see the details. Even more, it’s better
to take a Network trace to check the details of the network.

  • An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. mail will not be sent.

    Hii all,
I have a subscription which used to send report email daily 10 am morning

why this occurs ?? at the time of subscription running time ??
i have checked there is not error of subscription it runs fine ..
    only today errored ..
    Kindly , help me
    Dilip Patil..

    Hi Dilip,
Based on the error message "An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database." it seems the issue is caused by the Report Server catalog databases are
    corrupted.
To fix this issue, I suggest that you use the Reporting Services Configuration Manager to recreate the Report Server catalog databases. In addition, please make sure report server instance can connect to the report server database. For more details about Configure
a Report Server Database Connection (SSRS Configuration Manager), please see the following document:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/ms159133.aspx
Besides, if the issue is caused by the connection to the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server catalog database is timeout. Please refer to the following thread:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/db4ca6c2-5445-4ff9-9f63-e20f3859cc70/error-throwing-microsoftreportingservicesdiagnosticsutilitiesreportserverstorageexception-an?forum=sqlreportingservices
If the problem is still existed, I would appreciate it if you could give us detailed error log, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

  • APP-V 5 SP1 - "Application Failed to Launch. This may be due to a network failure 0x0FD01B25-0000007B"

Hello all,I am having some issues with APP-V 5.
I am having particular issues with starting a packaged SIMS.net. I keep recieving:
"Application Failed to Launch. This may be due to a network failure 0x0FD01B25-0000007B"
...within a second or two of clicking on the app-v created shortcut for this software.
To clarify, I had this software working perfectly previously. I recreated this package due to a software update, but it fails to launch now. I started a new package from scratch as this is a complex piece of software with multiple installers to run etc.
To be honest, I keep seeing this error on other applications. At one point, nearly every published app returned the same error. I spent a day trying to diagnose but the following day, everything mysteriously started working again.
I have had a look on kirks blog & Tim Magan, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is a 'business critical application' (as they say).
    Quick overview of my setup:
    - Single Server configuration (Management, Publishing & SQL) on Server 2012 VM in 2012 Hyper-V
    - Win 2000 Domain with 2003 DC
    - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
    - SIMS.net Summer 2013 sequenced on 32bit following best practice guide
    - Deploying to 32 bit machine
    - Client settings pushed by GPO. Powershell execution policy set to allsigned.

RESOLVED: This error is caused by the "Program Files" missing from the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\" folder.
Firstly, a big thank you Nicke. You may not have solved the problem, but you sent me down the road to resolve this issue.
After trying the step you mentioned, I placed the computer in an OU with inheritance disabled. From this point onwards, I deduced that it was actually a group policy issue.
In my environment, I redirect start menus to generated start menu. This is created using a powershell script to combine locally installed items and network items. This scripts deletes the content of the 'programdata' start menu (i.e all users start menu)
to prevent these items disrupting the start menu.
Now... The app-v packages were breaking because, the 'Start Menu > Programs' folder did not exist. If an empty 'Start Menu > Programs' exists, the packages work correctly.
I can only assume that the two packages that were working correctly - that I installed these for 'current user only', rather than 'all users'.
It seems a little silly to me that app-v should fall over for something so simple. However, you could argue that it serves me right for playing about with system files :)
    Thanks again for the help.

The last think I have done, is to grant a new user access to the report server website (by using the site options) and to the root folder (by using the folder options on ws).
But the error must not relate to the new user. The server was not touched for several days before.
Could you plz help me? I have no idea what to do.

  • An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database

    Hello
We just had this error today. We did not do ANY changes to our existing ReportServer database neither to our reports.
Our infrastructure - we have sharepoint 2010 and sql server 2008 r2 with reporting services installed.
    I confirmed the following:
-->Disk space on database server OK:
-->ReportServer database not corrupted - I restored the database to my test server and ran DBCC CheckDB.
I am now looking at the Activity Monitor and have noticed that several SPID executed by the ReportServer database are blocked by a SPID executed by the ReportServerTempDB.
Would blocking be a possible cause to this problem?
    Thank you all in advance

  • Receiving Unable to open equipment error message. HELP on why this is...

    equip = Me.conn.GetSAPObject("Equipment", equipNumb)
            Me.Eq_Num = equip.Equipment
            getGenDet = Me.conn.DimAs(equip, "GetDetail1", "DataGeneralExp")
            retVals = Me.conn.DimAs(equip, "GetDetail1", "Return")
            equip.GetDetail1(DataGeneralExp:=getGenDet, Return:=retVals)
            MsgBox(retVals.value("MESSAGE"))
            MsgBox(retVals.value("FIELD"))
            MsgBox(getGenDet.value("DESCRIPT"))
Code above goes though ok but returned message shows error and required values return blank.
Connection to persistant equipment using GETSAPObject works fine. I can then query the equipment number using the . method and display it using msgbox.
I now want to retrieve the get details data values. the above code returned blanks. When I query the returned errors the message is Unable to read equipemnt 10011823. I have confirmed that I can open this within the client directly and can read the equipment number. Unfortunately this Getdetail1 function now seems to generate an access error.
I have checked in the BOR and it is open. This also happens with GetStatus. I have got GETStatus working with Functional locations but seem to get this error on equipments.
    Any help would be appreciated

Further just got GetDetail to work which the BOR says is obsolete.
But GetDetail1 causes the error in Previous post.
Maybe this may explain something if someone knows why

  • Error Message: "A virus was detected in FILENAME. This file will not be uploaded"

I have been synching files using Creative Cloud Connect for many months. During the past few weeks, I get the message "Some files failed to sync". When I click on "Learn more", it has 3 files there and all have the message "A virus was detected in filename . This file will not be uploaded". I scanned all three files with AVG and Malwarebytes (installed on my system) and both report that there is no virus in those files. I have tried to chat with support but I could not find any resolution with them. I believe that I never got to the right place. I was connected with 5 different people. At the end of the last discussion I spoke to Adobe Captivate support. It so happens that the files with that error are all Adobe Captivate files. But that support also concluded that they couldn't help. I could not find similar entries in the forums either. Did anyone else have this problem?
    I appreciate any help.
    Angela

No unfortunately, I have not.  I spent over an hour on the phone with them already regarding this topic. In the end, the support in Adobe Captivate (that's the 5th support group they connected me to) told me that I wasn't allowed to upload Captivate files since Adobe Captivate 8 is not a CC application and that's why the problem was happening. I am absolutely sure that this is untrue since I have many Captivate files on CC. I think the key will be to get to the right support group. Good luck! I really hope you find a solution. Keep me informed. Thanks.
