NLB Load Balancing

Hi all,
Could explain the procedure of MS NLB for Portal server - my system config -
1-CI, 1-DI, 1-DB instance and the CSI resides in the DB box, EP7, NW04s java stack only connected to a backend R/3 System. Please help give the detailed procedure.
Thanks & regards,
Sankar.

Hi naveed,
This is normal. NLB is using the node that has the fastest response / highest priority and/or your configuration you can find more info about this here :

  • Network Load Balancing (NLB)

    Dear Support,
I have install NLB feature on two windows 2008 R2 servers both have configured with IIS. However I have tested both are working fine and both are accepting the request successfully.
Since we have performed load test the load balance between the server is not equal
    Host 1
    CPU Utilization =53%
    Host 2
    CPU Utilization = 10%
    Please suggest.

  • Hyper-V 2012 R2 & NLB (Network Load Balancing) with Unicast on VMs

    Hi,
We set up a 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster. On this Cluster we would like to run 2 VM's which are using NLB (Network load Balancing) in Unicast mode.
We have created a External Virtual Switch wich is connected trough a 3x10GB LACP Team to a Cisco Nexux Switch.
We have tried to set the NLB up in the way we did with 2008 R2 but we were not be able to get this working. Is there any Change in 2012 R2 we did not think about?
Each time we form the Cluster one Node becomes unavailable.
    Timo

Check the virtual network adapter properties - you must enable MAC address spoofing.  We had the same issues.
Note that this will absolutely pollute your host machine's system log with tons of spam and make it pretty much worthless.  I'm trying to find a way around this as we speak, actually.

  • Internet load balancing with two machine (NLB)

i have install two TMG 2010 and one is manger and one managed , but seems once manager down , other server not passing the traffic with vip , my question is does it supported like NLB with two machine ?

    Hi,
Coud you confirm you can ping sucecssfully both of two machine before?
To check if the NLB status is green:
In the Forefront TMG Management console, in the tree, click the Monitoring node.
In the Alerts tab, check that NLB Started for each array member.
In the Network Load Balancing Manager (nlbmgr), check the status of the current node for all clusters define. Repeat this for each member.
Run nlb display to view the current state of the NLB cluster and hosts. Repeat this for each membe

  • Office Web Apps Load Balancing Configuration Issue for SharePoint 2013

I have load balanced servers dedicated for Office Web Apps with name “md1xxxwfe1” and “md1xxxwfe2”
, both this servers are load balanced by CISCO Load balancer. And I have mapped Load Balancer Virutal IP with host name officeapps.jda.corp.local in the DNS records.
Things are working fine if I add new farm by using New-OfficeWebAppsFarm
with server name as internalurl in PowerShell console

    Hi  Ram ,
For  troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
Just about any load balancing solution will work, including a server that runs the Web Server (IIS) role running Application Request Routing (ARR):Install
    Application Request Routing
Install the certificate on the load balancer as described under Securing Office Web Apps Server communications by using
    HTTPS.
Make sure you have configured the cluster correctly for full internet name:

  • TMG load balance and publishing issues

    Dear Experts,
I have some questions about publishing multiple services with TMG's ISP redundacny with load balancing:
We are using a single TMG 2010 server to protect our network and providing Internet connection to them. We manage our own domain providing the name service with the DNS server component installed on the TMG box and published it outside. We are using Exchange
for mail service, as well we publish web sites too and terminal services via RDP. There wasn't any problem till today, when we got an other, separate Internet connection via a new different ISP. When I set ISP Redundancy to Load Balance I faced to a problem.
The Internet connection works fine, but the partner SMTP's drop our letters, because they can not complete the reverse DNS check.
How can I set the TMG and/or the DNS to provide a correct mail publishing service? How should I set our DNS to provide access to our web sites and other services when one of the Internet connections brake down?
    Thank you in advance!
    Thomas

    Dear Quan,
    Yes, this is the problem.
Would you tell me, how should I configure my DNS for working properly if I publish my services to all my IPs/Internet connections? Do I have to double all my A and MX records?
Is it possible to publish services on all IPs/Internet connections or should I publish on only one an use NLB only for to provide Internet connection to our computers?
What is the good solution to make a fail-safe internet-gateway which publishes multiple services fail-safe too?
    Thank you
    Thomas

    Hi MS DEF,
A second network adapter is required to provide peer-to-peer communication between cluster hosts. Please isolate your heartbeat network. With unicast when cluster is connected
to a switch, incoming packets are sent to all the ports on the switch, which can cause switch flooding, please confirm you have setup your switch correct, you can refer the following Cisco Switch related unicast configuration.

  • Server load balancing for application access using multiple servers

1.what are the methods supported by cisco switches for load balancing
    2. I want to achive users to access 1 particular ip from different locations but phsically few servers which handle the application and data

well some servers allow you to install routing protocols on them. you could OSPF some links together.
or you could NLB if it is a microsoft server. this uses a heartbeat network, a virtual mac and an IP address bound to the vmac.
you could use NIC teaming. broadcom nics on dell servers allow you to configure them for loadbalancing, failover and a few other options.
or if the servers are mirrored using MSCS or something similar (i.e configured the same but independant) you could just load balance using DNS.
hope this helps. jsut some ideas quickly off the top of my head

  • Virtual Hosts for Load Balancing

    Hi all,
So I have two identical servers, that have SOA Suite installed pointing to the same database. (RHEL 4) I have configured the mod_oc4j.conf file for round robin, and then I created a virtual host on the httpd.conf file to point to the load balance hardware.
It worked! But with a slight issue. The Load Balance server is orasoaqa.tmpw.net:7777, which opens the main Application Server page. However, when I click on BPEL console, or ESB, it continues using the orasoaqa.tmpw.net:7777 virtual, which of course, breaks even trying to login.
What am I missing here? Here's the entry I added to mod_oc4j.conf:
    Oc4jSelectMethod roundrobin:local
Here's the entry I added to the httpd.conf on server 1:
    Port 7777
    Listen 7777
    NameVirtualHost XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:7777
    <VirtualHost orasoaqaapp101.ma.tmpw.net:7777>
    ServerName orasoaqa.tmpw.net
    ServerAlias orasoaqaapp101.ma.tmpw.net
    Port 7777
    </VirtualHost>
    and on server 2:
    Port 7777
    Listen 7777
    NameVirtualHost XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:7777
    <VirtualHost orasoaqaapp102.ma.tmpw.net:7777>
    ServerName orasoaqa.tmpw.net
    ServerAlias orasoaqaapp102.ma.tmpw.net
    Port 7777
    </VirtualHost>
Yes, the port for Application Server and the port on the Load Balancer are exactly the same, I hope this isn't the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Seeing that you have an external load balancer available, you really should not be trying software load balancing. Windows NLBS is a software based load balancing and is not really dependent on the physical/virtual hosting of the OS. There are certain gotchas
w.r.t the NLB modes since they depend on network protocols such as arp, propagation of MAC addresses and usage of the MAC in the L2 routing tables of network devices.
You should be taking the help of the cloud service provider as ONLY they would have an understanding of their underlying networking infrastructure such as VLANS. addressing, routing rules and such.
You could also refer to the VMware support forum for KB's such as
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006580
Most importantly, NLBS is a base OS related service and you're more likely to get a response in the Windows Server Forum. In the specific case of BizTalk, the Windows NLB is only used for hosting the out of process services such as those associated with
HTTP/s Receive, orchestration published as schemas, web services (asmx) and/or WCF endpoints.

  • RDS 2008 R2 / Load Balancing, My 1st Setup. Help.

I currently have a 2008 R2 RDS server setup with around 100 people accessing, unfortunately we're starting to see 100% CPU spikes which are lasting for long periods of time making the whole RD experience painful for the end users.  I've pinpointed the
extra CPU usage to a specific program developed internally making changes to this program is not an option.
My solution is to introduce a 2nd RDS server and load balance the users between them.  My original thought was to setup a Session Broker (VM) to handle the initial connection and then that would load balance between the two physical servers.
Reading a bit more into it this is not looking like the way to go.  My best route would be to setup NLB on the two Sessions Hosts as the front end which are then connected to the Session Broker (VM).  This way after the initial connection the Sessions
Hosts should check with the Session Broker for existing connections before deciding which physical server the end users end up on.
Am I at least heading in the right direction with this setup or should I do it another way?  I also need to setup Web Access , can this be loaded on the Session Broker or do I need to do it on the physical Session Hosts and mirror the setup between
the two?  And the same for the RD Gateway or can I do this on the Session Broker as well?
    Thanks for any advice given.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As you have commented that you are planning to load balance the RDSH server with RDCB, you can do the required steps for your environment. For this you need to check the following steps.
    - Install the RD Connection Broker role service on the server that you want to use to track user sessions for a farm.
    - Add the RD Session Host servers in the farm to the Session Broker Computers local group on the RD Connection Broker server.
    - Configure the RD Session Host servers in the farm to join a farm in RD Connection Broker, and to participate in RD Connection Broker Load Balancing.
    - Configure DNS round robin entries for RD Session Host servers in the farm.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 - ADFS/Windows Network Load Balancing Converging Issue

    Hello,
My name is Brandon. We have started upgrading our servers to Windows Server 2012 R2. We have some powerful servers for running ESXI 5.5 as the OS with the Guest Operating Systems as Windows Server 2012 R2. As far of our migrations/upgrades we have configured

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that:2 ESXI 5.5 physical devices (192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.6), each of them has a virtual WS 2012 R2(192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20). Cluster the 2 virtual servers successfully, but they corrupt with event
ID 21, and a restart of virtual device will resolve this problem temporarily.
Event ID 21 means that NLB failed to converge due to inconsistencies in the port rules between this host and cluster host. This will occur if the number of port rules or the type of port rules are different between hosts.
Ensure that all NLB hosts have identical port rules. Detailed steps you may reference:

Thank you for your response. It took me a while to figure it out, but the whole issue was related to the type of Virtual Network Adapter I was selecting.
I changed the network adapter from E1000 to VMXNET 3 and have not had a single error in the event logs or Windows NLB.
I read somewhere that VMXNET 3 is preferred for Windows Server 2012 R2.

After 10 days of research for our virtual datacenter behind a vcloud as iias ,  i found a solution .
    I only run windows 2012 server .

  • LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number

    Hi,
My doubt is about LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number.
I have to install 3 servers machines and 2 servers databases cluster. There will be a HIGH AVAILABILITY environment. There will be a MIGRATION and UPGRADE.
Today there are 2 servers machines in Windows NLB. Today my production Portal is 6 6.20.
Once, I did something for LABORATORY TEST. Migration (6 6.40) and Upgrade (7.0)in two other machines. But they were with Windows NLB. When I did the installation, for each server machine and during the instalation I had to give one Instance Number for each and in result there was a different Port Number for each.
But I accessed both machines throught a virtual url(dns) with a specific port number. And it works!
NOW, with a HARDWARE LOAD BALANCE _ CSS I don't know how to do.
A guy who works with it  tell us that couldn't redirect one Port Number for different port numbers. He couldn't configure the CSS like this.
My question is: Is he write? And if he is, there is a  way to give the same instance number for my 3 new Portal servers machines? Example: 5(02)00.
    Could you understand?
    I need help.
    Regards,
    cheers,
    Nivia

    Nivia,
I have used F5 for load balancing, I am sure you can do the same with CSS. Yes, you can configure a virtual IP on the load balancer with standard ports (80 or 443) and load balancing the traffic to multiple servers with different ports. You can have different ports for each instance.

  • HA and Load Balancing in Exchange Server 2010

    Hi
My office just have 2 servers Exchange Standard 2010 (Licensed). I installed 3 roles on 2 servers (called Ex1 & Ex2). I configured Windows NLB for Hub Transport and Client Access. That 's fine.
But the maibox is seperated each server. Ex1 is main mailbox, so when Ex1 down, mailbox database will down too.
I 've read DAG solution but I just have 2 servers and it 's running WNLB. My office not enough cost to buy Hardware Load Balancer.
Does anyone have a solution for my problem ?
    Thank you

    Hi,
If you want to use DNS round robin, it is recommended to lower the TTL values of DNS records to 5 minutes.
DNS Round Robin has no automatic server failure detection. If a host goes down, Administrator will need to realize it, remove the DNS Record for the server that went down, and then clients will have to wait for the TTL value on the old DNS record to
    expire.
Here is an article about DNS round robin for your reference.

  • Network Load balancing for Server 2003 and Server 2012

Our environment currently has 2 web servers running Windows Server 2003 with Network Load Balancing.  We are looking to update the servers to Windows Server 2012.  Is it possible to add Windows Server 2012 into the Windows Server 2003 Network Load
balancing cluster?  This way we could bring up 2 new servers add them into the network load balancing and then take out the 2003 servers without disrupting our production.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to make this work properly?

    Hi,
You can upgrade an existing Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster to Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012 by taking the entire cluster offline
and upgrading all the hosts, or you can leave the NLB cluster online and perform a rolling upgrade. A rolling upgrade entails taking individual cluster hosts offline one at a time, upgrading each host, and returning the host to the cluster. You continue upgrading
individual cluster hosts until the entire cluster is upgraded. A rolling upgrade allows the cluster to continue running during the upgrade.
