Nmh 410 problem after problem

after the latest firmware update, my nmh 410 was un-usable so i reset back to original firmware.  all was good for a couple of days and then the media hub became un-usable again.  could not access the configuration page, it would tell me that the password was incorrect, etc.  tried numerous times to reset back again to no avail.  called tech support and worked with them for about an hour and was told to try a different hard drive to see if that cleared up the problem.  bought another hard drive and installed it.  same problem as before.  i am going to get a RMA but i need to get my files off the hard drive from the media hub before i can do that.  plugged the hard drive into an external sata dock but windows cannot see the disk or its contents.  i cannot send this media hub back without copying the files over for back up first.  can anyone please tell me a way to do that?  does the media hub use a linux based format on the drive or is their a program or something that i could use to back up the media before sending it back thru RMA?  I guess if all else fails i could go out and purchase another 1tb western digital hard drive exactly like the one in it and hope they dont notice, but i dont like to be shady and really dont have the money to keep dropping on this media hub.  i really just want my music as most of it that copied over to the media hub was lost afterwards from a hard drive failure on my server.  that was my only back up.
thank you in advance for any help with this crappy situation.

Depending on what type of filesystem the NMH uses, getting Windows drivers will be difficult. And disks have been put into RAID-0 or RAID-1, then it will be almost impossible to use Windows.
Why not doing it much simpler and getting one of the several Live CDs for Linux. For instance, www.ubuntu.org or www.kubuntu.org and get a live CD image, burn it to a CD or put it on an USB stick. Use unetbootin (available for Windows also) to create a bootable USB stick with Linux.
Boot Linux from CD or USB stick, then try to mount the eSATA disk. If the distro detects the disk it should be shown; for instance, Kubuntu (KDE) pops up a small window above the task bar where you can pick your disk, et cetera.
Attach another USB disk and just copy the data from the NMH disk to your other disk.

  • Indexing of NMH 410 Never Stops

Indexing of NMH 410 Never Stops.  Does anyone from Linksys or Cisco have a solution?

I've been reading for 6-7 months.....  I've been on the phone with technical support so many times with "level 2" techs and they can't fix it.
My reading does nothing but bring be back to the same spot like a dog chasing his tail.   I even went through each file and folder to make sure that the naming conventions are correct as the NMH 410 will not accept anything outside of naming convention for the type of LINUX they are using.
I now remove the CAT5 cable when I'm not using the NMH 410 and my Network as a whole runs better as the constant rescanning of the NMH 410 seem to clog up the Newtwork.
If Linksys fixes the bugs with a new software release I'll be surprised as it's been a long time since we've asked for help.  I guess we can wish for the best.

  • NMH 410 "Remote Access" - Videos Do Not Play

When accessing my Media Hub from a "remote" location the videos do not play (I only have videos on my Media Hub).
Instead, I get the following error message:
Error: Could not play the selected title
Windows Media: this media player was detected but is not responding.
The version, plug-in, or codec may be incorrect.
These same videos play without any problem on my home network using the same PC(Windows Vista), IE browser (8), and Media Player (11.0.5x).
Does anyone have any keys to success that they can offer?
    My Network:
    DSL with "bridged" modem
    E4200 Linksys router
    Ports forwarded 80, 443, 9000
    Media Hub 410
    Windows XP desktop (wired)
    Windows Vista laptop (wireless)
    MAC 10 laptop (wireless)
    IE 8
    Windows Media Player 11.0.5x
    Video Files (all) .wmv format
Files imported to Hub through Media Importer
Files manually moved from Import Folder to Video Folder on Hub File Browser
All Video Thumbnails shown on Hub Homepage
As mentioned there is no problem playing these video files at home, nor is there a problem accessing the Media Hub "remotely".  I just cannot get the files to play from a remote location.
    Any ideas or recommendations?

    Hi Fhizoo8:
Thanks for that knowledge base listing.  The items there only served to re-enforce those things that have already been attempted.
I have not tried your suggestion to uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Player.  I'll do this on the laptop that I use while at remote locations, and on the desktop that I have wired to my home network.  At this point I'll reach for any straw that might allow these videos to play (remotely).
To answer your question, yes I have all 3 ports forwarded on my router (80, 443, 9000) and married to the IP of the Media Hub.  I also access the Media Hub through the HTTPS format, and through the DYNDNS format without any problem.  I do not use the www.cicomediahub.com method of remote access.  That route is never reliable, nor is it ever working and when it does work the videos are buffering every 3-5 seconds.
I will try the unistall and reinstall of the Windows Media Player.  I will get back to let you know if it had any positive affect.
    Thanks

  • Activitate mediaserver on nmh-410

I can not activate the media server and I can not see all my music files and pictures
I've imported to the mediaHub. There comes this error message:

A lot have reported this issue before and the only way to go around this problem is to hard reset the media hub. Press the reset button of the media hub for 10 seconds then unplug the power cord at the back but continue holding the reset button for another 10 seconds (even with no power on it). Afterwards, put the power cord back to the hub but still continue pressing the reset button for another 10 seconds. After this procedure, you will be requested to upgrade the firmware of the hub.

  • NMH 410 new software/firmware and operating system

    Hi.
I have a NMH410 without any disks installed.
Just bought one new 2TB disk.
Is it possible/need to format/preinstall the software before inserting the new disk?
    Then i need a procedure.
I'm unable to find any software download for the NMH410.
I suppose that the installation CD is just for final configuration after the HUB is up and running.
    Regards
    Icerider

No need to reformat the drive but you might want to check the compatibility list first.

  • M-Audio 410 interface

Anyone using the 410 with Logic? Working okay? Any advice?
    Thanks, Kendall

I'm using M-Audio FireWire 410 with Logic Pro 7.1 and I've been very happy with it. I bought the 410 right after it was released and I haven't had any major problems with it. I have one advice though: Don't connect too many firewire devices to the same bus with 410. It seems that it doesn't like other devices that much. I've had problems especially when connecting my iPod.

  • NMH410 some files have become inaccessible

The hardware: brand-new NMH410 with two WD 1TB drives, configured as RAID-1.
    The firmware: 3.18.15.
The clients: Linux 2.6.31 kernel, Kubuntu Karmic Koala
Over the past days I've copied over my media library to the NMH410 ... so far so good.
This day I face the strange situation that I get access denied to several files in my media/music subdirectories. I can see from my Linux clients that the files exist and I can also see that they should be readable. However, whenever I try to access these files, I get access denied.
Using the flash-based browser I can access these files, copy them around, et cetera. However, if I do make copies, then I cannot access these copies either. Seems to consistently getting the wrong access rights in the NMH410.
Resetting to factory defaults did not help either. Cleared the browser cache, reloaded. Disconnected SMB clients, attached them anew ... problem still persists. Most files are accessible, quite some audio files aren't anymore.
What am I doing wrong here? I'm totally dazzled.

The router isn't involved at all as the traffic is kept inhouse and traverses just a switch; plain level 2 business, no layer 3 involved. Rebooting linux (the kernel you mean?) is not required as the CIFS is nowadays more or less run in user space, if I remember correctly. Dropping mounts cleans up. No reboot or session logout required. Even almost all software package updates, even if they are concerning system daemons and libraries, are done without any reboot. Win7 has an extremely long road to travel to come even close. I have reasons to only use Linux. In office I get paid to loose time with XP. At home I want to be effective.
Oh, and as support was stubborn to insist on windows I grabbed my office laptop with WinXP and gave it a fresh try. Guess what: same result, who could have expected? You know, SAMBA is nowadays better in terms of compatibility between different SMB/CIFS protocol, server, and client versions than microsoft itself. In fact, SAMBA servers and clients on Linux are better at working around errors in Microsofts implementations than Microsofts code. No wonder that Microsoft is not able to document SMB properly, only the SAMBA project has delivered so far.
Together with a support person we found out that the NMH 410 is slowly killing itself by assigning wrong user/group ids to inodes -- well, basically I found that out and the support then more or less agreed and acknowledged. However, Linksys has no idea why the NMH is doing this. I got the advice to backup everything to a locally attached USB disk -- the only thing that worked at this point --, then to delete all files and to copy the files back.
While the backup procedure worked successfully, copying back resulted in complete desaster which even rendered the shared without access! The NMH 410 was, for whatever reason, changing ownership of the share directories to 0/0, thus rendering access impossible to the SAMBA server process. It seems that the webserver is running under root, arrrrgh! Bad design!
The next support person told me to remove the eSATA disks and to reformat them -- he probably meant to kill any partition setup. He didn't care about that I don't have any eSATA bays and interfaces at hand and don't want to drive to a shop just to buy then in order to get the self-hanging unit to work again. After he refused to help and insisted on me having to reformat the drives outside the NMH 410 I ignored his ignorance and phoned Syslink support.
The worked better and I was quickly told to try to completely reset the unit by powering off for more than 30s, then pressing reset and powering up, yet holding reset for more than 30s. I was told this should put the unit into disk repartition/reformat mode. Tried that two times, but the NMH 410 just came up (as expected) with only some settings reset, but the file system untouched and with the wrong owner/group settings. Still no access.
It seems that the problems started when I put the NMH 410 the second day after I purchased it from RAID-0 to RAID-1 with some data already on it. Thus, I put the unit back to single disc use, which causes the file system to be generated anew. This seems to be the only way to do it; two support persons didn't know this, only the third one was aware of this method albeit he suggested the non-working 30s reset procedure.
Finally converted the disks with the fresh file system to RAID-1 ... well, still waiting for the conversion to finish. After that will have finished, I will try to restore some files from the FAT32 USB disk, using FTP as suggested (eeek!). We will see.
After all the years this is the first Linux system I have come across that it killing access to it by randomly assigning wrong user/group ownerships to inodes. This seems to have required brilliant craftmenship by Linksys to make Linux behave in such a braindead manner. My confidence in Linksys and especially this product has totally gone away. Support is awful.

  • WRT160N - Slow wireless connection

    My wired connection is fine.
The range is fine at 100% percent.
My wireless download speeds are horrible.
I haven't made any changes to any of the settings, since I don't know much about routers.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    oook,
Thanks for the help. I have the same problem, tried your solution, but I'm still having a quite unpleasing experience with mine. I have the WRT160N ver. 3.0 with latest FW set to 5 GHz N-only. Still I can get only 20-30 mbps (2-3.5 MB/s on windows) top wireless speed out of it.
I have a NMH-410 which is wired to the router and I can get full 100 mbps when copying from/to it if I wire my notebook (Dell Inspiron 1525) to the router, but on the N wireless, even though it reports 144 mbps and strong signal, I can't get much more than the aforementioned 20-30.
Same with my Blu-ray (BDP-S570) which can't smoothly stream my 1080p/30 H264 home movies from it (from a Canon t2i/45 mbps).
    Any ideas?

  • NV6600GT VTD128 Hangs

    Hi all,
I bought the above card on Saturday here in Belgium, and much to my dismay, find the card extremely unstable and cannot run any 3d application for longer than 2 minutes.
When I first got the card, I was able to play Doom3 for about 10 minutes, but since then the freezes occur without fail after two minutes of playing :-(
Unfortunately, the problem occurs under both windows and linux (Gentoo), where with my G4Ti before, it was rock solid invincible.
I should stress that, yes, I have an idea of what I am doing, tried latest versions of everything:
    Latest nvidia drivers.
    Latest motherboard bios.
    Latest motherboard drivers.
Swapping molex so the card is the sole item on the line.
Changed the bios to get temp reading - when it crashes the core is at 57! so its not a temp thing.
Examined the heatsink mounting with a torch to see if there are any gaps - contact looks good for both the GPU and the bridge chip.
    Heres the specs of interest:
Asus a7n8x rev 1.04 motherboard (nforce2), bios version 1.008 now
1 gig of some ram .-)
    AMD athlon 2600
Case powersupply Antec True 430P - rated 430W on the case.
1 hard drive, one floppy, one cdrom reader.
Heres the power specs from the label of the power supply:
    +5v 36A max, 0A min
    +12V 20A max 0.8A min
    +3.3V 28A max 0A min
    -5V 0.5A max 0A min
    -12V 1.0A max 0A min
    +5VSB 2.0A max 0A min
    It also mentions
    +5v +12V +3.3V max load 410 W
After playing with it and drivers and f**king windows for two days, I am at my wits end, and will be returning it next saturday.
Its a real shame, because in the moments when it does work, BOY is there a difference over ye olde GF4!
    Cheers,
    Dan

    Thanks for the pointer faffy.
I swapped back in the GF4 and everything is rock solid again. And slow :-(
I should have mentioned, I tried all of the suggested tweaks in this forum too
    i.e.
    * Tweak ram settings, up voltage
    * Turn off fast writes (incidentally, works great with GF4)
    * Use rivatuner to enable chipset compatability mode etc etc
Ah well we'll see if the shop will let me change brand when I return it.

  • Hard Drive Space Eaten, but where? - 10.6

I can't figure out where 120 GB of Hard Drive Space has gone.  I've scoured other similar threads, but none like this:
    1 - 451 GB are listed as being used (in Finder/About My Mac/Whatsize/Activity Monitor/etc)
2 - outside programs, including WhatSize, list less.  For example, Whatsize (which I paid for), only finds 331 GB of used space (but lists 451 GB as "used" in the upper left corner).
3 - commands like sudo du -hd1 only show me using 284 GB.
I'd like to find WHERE the 120 GB is being eaten before trying to figure out WHY.  But I got into the root directory in finder anyway, and found nothing unusual.
More information - I'm using Snow Leopard, I was using Lion earlier but got tired of "Out of Memory" errors (when only 430 / 500 GB were shown, but all sources, as being used).  I erased the hard drive in Disk Utility and did a clean install, last week.  At that time, I was "using" 410 GB after reinstalling files- so 40 GB have gone missing just this week (I'm not doing much - No, it isn't because iTunes or iPhoto are making copies of things).  I should say, overall, the system is screaming fast and working like lightning and I'm happier (compared to Lion).
And finally - the first thing that happened when I bought this laptop was that I had a logic board failure.  Literally one day out of the box. So maybe this computer is a lemon.  This is my first Mac too.

Where  did  my  Disk  Space  go?
    Slimming your hard drive
OmniDiskSweeper is a free utility that checks HD space.
FreeSpace cost $1 or is a free utility that checks HD space.
SpaceControl is a free utility that checks HD space.
Rule of thumb: You should never let your hard drive get to where you have only 10-15% of space left.
    Mac OS X (10.6.7)
Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.8 and anything else that needs to be updated.

  • Performance and code execution time

I've just successfully compiled TidyHTML into SWC library and after running a few test I am a bit disappointed - execution time of flashcc-generated code on my PC is near 500 ms(and approximitly 3000 ms on Nexus 7), when C++ console application executes the same code in 36 ms. So C++ application is almost at 14 times faster - is this normal for Crossbridge? TidyHTML was compiled into static library using gcc with -O4 flag, and SWC was compiled with g++ using the same optimization level.

Thank you for answer, I'll check it out with Scout. I understand how it works so I do not counting on a same performance as native code may show. But a 14x difference in performance seems suspicious. I've noticed that on first run of function from SWC on Android tablet it takes 3 seconds, but during next calls - approximitly 1 second, that looks more close to expected result. On PC code executes among 750-800 ms on first run and 410 ms after that.

  • Question on how to record

Ok, so a little background. I'm a recent migrant to a new macpro, within the past few months and I bought logic pro 8 a while back. I come from using an old gateway laptop with sony soundforge installed. I'm a dj and the great thing about the gateway was it had RCA audio In's so I could directly connect my mixer to my laptop and record with great ease. I'm pretty sure its going to be a little harder with logic, but I know its a much more stable platform.
So I need to know in short how to start recording.... I had gotten a version of protools a while back from a friend, along with an audio interface to use, but however could never get them to work.. I'm a bit of a novice as you can tell so any help would be appreciated.
    THank you so much
    [email protected]

If you've got an M-Audio interface, then first go on their website and get the latest driver. Make sure you install it EXACTLY as the instructions say. (I have an M-Audio 410, and after you install the driver you have to shut down the machine, plug the interface in, and boot up, or the driver won't work). Once it's installed and working, you should be able to see it in the Sound preferences for your Mac, then open Logic and go to the Audio Device window in Preferences. There you should be able to select the interface, and then arm tracks to record and it will record through the interface.
    Good Luck!
EDIT - I'll leave my message above, but looks like SC beat me to the punch!

  • How to disable twonky media?

    I'm an owner of NMH-410
This hub Iis VERY SLOW - network speed max 8Mbit
I think if possible to disable twonky media server the hub can increase his speed.
I want have only network storage, not server/something else.
    Thank You.

Whoa?! You really got a fast network there to be able to get a network throughput of 100mbps. Sometimes I confuse the connected speed (100mbps) with the actual network throughput when transferring data.
Check here to get a nice NAS comparison chart.

  • Windows Media Player Library Location

    Hi,
I've just got a NMH-410, and have uploaded all my music to it.
Which directory do I point WMP library location to, the hub, the import directory, or the music folder?
    Thanks
    newportg

If you used the Linksys import tool to import your music files to the mediahub then point WMP library to the "import" folder since thats where files are imported from the PC. But if you manually copied your files to the "music" folder then it should be the music folder.
    Cheers.

  • Is there a known problem with some cameras, e.g. the E-410?

I bought an Olympus E-410 yesterday, took a few pictures, and then wanted to load them onto my eMac. But the computer never saw the camera. The screen on the camera said "One moment" forever. I had installed the software that came with the camera, but that said "When iPhoto comes up close it and open [the Olympus software]".
I installed it on my Windows machine, and it saw the camera as an installed device, and the Olympus software worked fine, with the same cable.
I would have expected it to work because it is explicitly mentioned here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306297
We regularly add pictures from my wife's Canon Powershot A80, into iPhoto, and it works fine.
    Any helpful ideas?

No! I was wrong. My iPod showed the same symptom. The common denominator is that the Maxtor was plugged in at the same time. I had no problem with the new camera today, after removing the Maxtor's USB.
That's a relief, but not perfect. I guess I should have got a Firewire HDD
