NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Errors on Lenovo T500 2082-58M running Windows XP.

NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Errors are occurring on
five out of five Lenovo T500 laptops 2082-58M tested.
I can get the error to re-occur consistently by installing
IBM Director Client version 5.20 or 5.23, taking remote control and then within
the remote session I initiate a PC restart. This re-produces these errors
without fail.
I've also received this same error without Director but am
unable to cause this to re-occur consistently.
My Findings:
Changing the BIOS Settings from the default settings of :
BIOS Config > Display
Default Primary Video Device:[Internal]
Boot Display Device:[ThinPad LCD]
Graphics Device:[Discrete Graphics]
OS Detection for Switchable Graphics:[Enabled]
To the following settings resolves the issue though this
causes the installed and previously working ATI driver not to detect the video
device.
BIOS Config > Display
Default Primary Video Device:[Internal]
Boot Display Device:[ThinPad LCD]
Graphics Device:[Integrated Graphics]
OS Detection for Switchable Graphics:[Disabled]
What I have tried:
o Updated the BIOS and Drivers to Latest available
o Re-Installed the Display Driver, Downgraded the
Display Driver
o Removed the Display Driver and left BIOS
settings enabled (NMI errors re-occur)
To get to the above findings I tried removing /
re-installing pretty much every driver and disabling every option within the
BIOS. I am only listing what I believe is now relevant to the identified
problem. I can provide further information upon request.
 Anyone able to help ?

Hello,
the switchable gfx doesn´t work in XP. In XP you have to choose gfx options in bios before booting os.
Please try:
Default Primary Video Device:[Internal]
Boot Display Device:[ThinPad LCD]
Graphics Device:[discrete Graphics]
OS Detection for Switchable Graphics:[Disabled]

  • X-FI worked great for one day, now system won't boot up - NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Er

I can get the system to come up in safe mode, but can't get it to come up normally. I installed the card on Saturday and it worked great with no issues (played about 4 hours of WoW with it). The machine booted up fine at least 3 times yesterday. This morning, it won't come up normally at all: BSoD:
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error - The System has Halted
I made a restore point prior to installing the X-FI drivers yesterday, so I am going to go ahead and go back to that point and hope the system comes up. If it does, then there is a serious problem with the X-FI drivers.
My system is a standard Intel chipset running a Pentium 4, 3.8 Ghz - single core, non-64 bit with 2 Gigs of Ram.
I will post back on here if I have any luck with the restore point.

Memory chips are pretty vulnerable these days. The first week I had my PC I tested my memory with memtest and all was fine. A week later, I began getting BSODs, but every time because of a different driver or module. So I retested it and it wasn't OK anymore. Send it back, got a new one. Worked for a month, then same problems! The 3rd time was the good one... The memory lasted, but my Power Supply broke! After replacing everything is fine for a year now... I don't know if there is any connection, but I think my PSU was eating my memory sticks.
But anyway, I hope your BSOD is just a "statistical" one.

  • S10 Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

I'm getting frequent "Hardware Malfunction" blue-screen errors on my S10. The specific message is "NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error".
This started after I added a 3rd hard drive (an 80GB SSD) which worked fine for a month or so but inadvertently caused the power plug on my 2nd hard drive to partially dislodge. I believe that is when I saw the first blue-screen. After resolving that (and the tech did do a fully memory check) I had frequent blue screens until I decided to remove the SSD completely. After a few months of trouble free operation the blue-screens have reappeared and are now appearing several times per day.
Typically what happens is that the computer will freeze for short periods (a few seconds) and then continue working but eventually the frequecy of this will increase and finally the blue screen which can occur while the computer is idle or when I'm actually using it.
There is very little info on the web on how to deal with this issue. I suspect that it may be one of the hard drives that is failing. I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Greg

i had that happen once on a colleague's thinkcentre after an internal device came loose, shorted +12V to ground, and tripped the PSU's breaker.   the only solution i found was resetting the BIOS and reinstalling windows.
perhaps someone else will have another solution.

  • Can't install quicktime or itunes I recieve error code 2738.  I'm running windows Vista 32 with Service Pack 2.  I have tried old and new version of both programs.  Also, have gone through Apple's online help with no good outcome

Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads.  I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2.  I have check for all window update.  I have gone through Apple itune help list.  Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run around

    Excellent news!
Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:

  • Mid-2009 MBP, 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 512 MB can't run Windows 8?

    I  have a 17"  mid-2009 MacBook Pro with a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M
GT 512MB.  Recently upgraded to OS X MAvericks 10.9.4.  I wish to run 3DS MAx Design using Boot CAmp.
The Boot Camp Assistant, downloading the Windows installers says my system can only run Windows 7.  [The newly-opened Windows 8.1 disc is right here.]  Can this be right?  Might you please identify the weak point?  Should I upgrade?  Is the memory the reason?  Is the assistant wrong?  What should I do.
Using 3ds max, would it be wise to upgrade the memory in any case.  When the correct Windows softyware is determined and installed,  how large should I set the partition.  Thank you for helping me.

Thanks, Kappy.  Please, I'd read those system requirements before; I still don't understand where my system falls short.  Both 7 and 8 stipulate a 1GHz processor.  Graphics card I don't know the difference.  So it's memory- I have insufficient accesible memory?  If my purpose is to manipulate highly featured images, should I upgrade memory in any case.  Does it make much difference whether it's 7 or 8?  Some places I know my footing.  Here, not.  Step by step.  Thanks!

  • Got a Lenovo G50-70 computer running windows 8.1. Got a pop up says Adobe Air needs to be updated asks when do you want to update. Is this legitimate? I'm worried about viruses, worms. thanks.

The popup says An Adobe AIR update is ready to be installed.
I'm not sure it's really a message from Adobe.
I may not have any need to use AIR if it was installed on my computer by Lenovo or Windows 8.1.
My last computer had a popup that was, I think, a worm which told me I needed to update Flash Player Pro.
So, I'm nervous now about popup messages. I wish all legitimate programs could have options to Automatically install updates.
Can someone tell me if the popup sounds legitimate? Some programs give you a third option of No Thanks but this one just has a box to click for Update Now and a box for Update Later.
    Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem.  Just like Windows Update, Adobe AIR needs to update itself periodically.  Just click Update Now to update to the latest version.

  • NMI: Parity Check Error after trying to use iPod with Songbird

Hi, after installing Songbird and iPod extension, I plugged my video iPod in and got this error: http://onthebrightside.net/NMI_error/index.html. Fortunately, nothing serious happened neither to the computer, OS or iPod, but since then, I haven't dared to try it again. This happened after I was forced to repair my Windows XP SP 2, found out that iTunes (as well as many other applications, including Quicktime) don't work anymore, but can't be reinstalled either (tricky and well-known problem with both Apple applications, which I so far haven't succeeded to resolve) and decided to use Songbird instead of iTunes. I think trigger to the OS breakdown which forced me to repair it was that I started to use Freecom USB Mobile Drive two days ago; after a restart, the system recognized this drive as a primary master (and hence was trying to boot from it) and ceased to recognize the internal drive completely. Does anyone have some clue what all this might mean and how I can make sure that I won't get the NMI Parity Check Error again?

Hi, I have a strange effect with my Soundblaster X-Fi Elite Pro: (PC: Intel D840 Dualcore CPU, Intel 955 Express Chipset, 2 GB RAM, SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_07_0004 driver) After reconfigurating the cache settings of the SoundFont memory to a value of more than 250 MB and restarting the PC, I got a blue screen indicating a parity error (NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error) during the initiation of the X-Fi (audible click sound). Until removing all Creative settings from the registry in safe mode, I was unable to restart the PC without this problem. Even de- and reinstallation of the driver doesn't solve this problem. In my opinion, when the driver tries to start the X-Fi with this irregular settings (e.g. Cache >250 MB), the whole system crashes. - Can anybody confirm this problem? - How do I prevent the system from using irregular settings? - Is there an update available to prevent the driver/ the card from using irregular registry settings? Dirk
Does this happen also when using original set of drivers (from installation CD)?
What if you set SoundFont cache to dynamic (if you can to this on X-Fi?

  • Lenovo T500 freezes at startup when updating to newest ATI driver (Windows 7 RC x64)

Hi I have a big problem with my lenovo T500. I installed Windows 7 RC x64 to my lenovo T500 (2082-53G) and when I install the ATI catalyst beta driver x64 v9.6 from ATI's homepage, my computer freezes at startup (some activity on HD but I can't move my mouse and many processes faile to start at boot). Problem occurs only when win7 beta driver for system interface or ricoh multicard reader is installed because it worked ok until I installed those drivers. I'm not the only one facing this problem: http://www.windows7news.com/forum/windows-7-hardware-help/lenovo-t500-thinkpad-wdm-radeon-3650-drive...
Please help me and thanks in advance!

My T400 did this. I installed Win 7 with integrated, installed the ATI 9.6 suite, and never really tried the discrete for the first few days. Then when I tried it, it would instantly freeze at the Welcome screen and the loading circle would just freeze up.
I uninstalled the device and chose remove driver in device manager, and reinstalled the one from 7's original install and it still did this. Mine would just sit there and freeze up after the welcome screen when using discrete, however integrated always worked. I could only boot up in discrete with Safe Mode with Networking.
I ended up doing a system restore to right after I installed Windows, before I installed the ATI 9.6, (4 days ago, so not too bad for me) and booted straight into discrete. Windows update installed the driver for me, now it works perfectly. I am currently using the discrete card with no freeze up issues in the last day.
If you can't do that, you may have to reformat, just let windows handle the ATI driver itself (boot into discrete while installing) and it should work.
I wish I could get the higher performance drivers, but I assume they will figure this issue out and fix it soon with the next driver release.
    Hope that helps you out.

  • ERROR 164 MEMORY SIZE ERROR

    Help, please, someone!
I've just replaced the original pair of 1Gb DDR3 DIMMs in my new S10 (6423-27G) with a pair of Lenovo-branded 2Gb DDR3 DIMMs, to bring the total system memory to 4Gb (I am hoping to expand to 8Gb later on when DDR3 prices drop a little).
Now, every time I start my S10, I get a POST error message:
    Error 164: Memory Size Error
I am invited to hit F1 to enter SETUP, but no matter what I do there, I can't seem to find any option to clear this error.
What can I do to get my S10 to run past its POST without reporting an error?
    Brian
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    brian,
glad to hear the POST error is gone.   it's been 13+ years since i've owned a desktop and i didn't know the S10 had a jumper setting to clear the CMOS.   thanks for that--i learned something new.
regarding PC doctor, i'm not sure how to fix that.   try something like pcwizard and see if it reports errors as well.
vista shouldn't report as not being genuine after something like that.   check to see if it's still activated by running "slmgr.vbs -dli" in a command prompt.   in a few seconds a box will pop up giving you its status.   if it's no longer activated then you can run "slui 4" from a command prompt and call microsoft to get them to reactivate it.   just tell them what you did and that it's an OEM copy from lenovo.
    (edit: fixed typo)

  • Memory full error

I'm getting "memory full error" during generation of report. CR version is 8.5. The report contains 2 sub reports. Can anyone suggest what exactly the problem is and what could be the solution ... ??
    Thanks in advance ...

And if you run the report int he Designer do you get the same error?
If not then what is the application doing when it gets the error?
What have you done to debug the issue?
Yes, getting the same error in designer also. My application is actually passing data to CR for some inventory related display. The report contains 3 sub reports linked with main report. I'm debugging all the sub reports as I doubt that it can be bcoz of one of the sub reports.  Will check and update you ...

  • Memory Management Error in Windows 8.1

    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=99B960292878F11C%21148

These crashes were related to memory management (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't
know what it is you probably are not overclocking.

We do need the actual DMP file as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.

  • Memory full error while playing video in N8.... Pl...

    Hi All,
I am getting memory full error while playing movie..... it plays for abt 5 minutes & then the error message pops up and the application shuts down.....
I have checked C:, D: & E: & they have enough free space..... but i did find any solution......
    please if anyone can help....
    Thanks in advance!!

This might happen if some memory extensive application ,like an antivirus or some other mobile management softwares are running in the background.
You can start by checking if stopping /removing these apps correct the problem.
Else sometimes viruses in the memory card can cause this, try removing any external memory and play something from the phone memory.
