No 3D data upon DWG or DXF import from ArchiCAD
I have been trying several times to import 3D models that were generated using ArchiCAD 11 & 12 into Acrobat 3D Version 8. I was using different approaches on each attempt. ArchiCAD is not installed on my computer.
Importing the models as .DWG file returns a 2D floor plan drawing while importing as .DXF returns a 2d floor plan that can be moved around and rotated in 3D space. After importing as .DXF the model tree is included in the PDF. However, the 3D data has no 3D information but remains a plain 2D drawing.
Is this an Acrobat 3D issue or is there a way to maintain the 3d data upon importing?
I am no CAD expert at all.
Thanks in andvance.

Adam,
The export filters that you've seen are used in Structured FM when the graphics have been imported by copy (which isn't really a recommended practice in the first place). You set up the read/write rules to specify what format to export the graphics as.
However, if you use a standard workflow where the graphics are imported by reference, there is nothing to export as the graphics are always available externally.
If you're expecting the entire FM "page" to be exported in DWG/DXF format, then this is simply not possible from FM. There are third-party PDF to CAD export utilities available, which may be worth considering if you need the entire page exported.
If your client just wants access to the DWG or DXF files when working through the documentation, then using a tool like Microtype's TimeSavers to create an interactive PDF Portfolio with links to the original CAD files from the FM files would be the route to go. You can also include fully interactive 3D CAD drawings into the PDFs via FM, giving your client the ability to interactively explore parts assemblies in the documentation.
For background on PDF Portfolios, see:
http://www.layersmagazine.com/build-a-better-portfolio.html
http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/combining-files-pdf-portfolios
http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/acrobat-9-pdf-portfolios
there are quite alot of tutorials and videos on the Acrobat Users site on Portfolios weel worth exploring.

DWG/DXF import from Sketchup to Illustrator CS6
HI!
I have recently discovered the ability to import dwg/dxf files from Sketchup Pro (using AutoCAD Version: Release 14) into Illustrator CS6...
However, the only way that I seem to be able to see the DWG is by selecting 'Scale to Fit Artboard'... When I attempt to import using 'Original Size' or the 'Scale by' input factor the item doesn't seem to show anywhere on the artboard?
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks!Thanks Mike!
Well, the sketchup file was created in mm, but for some reason their export 2D Graphic dialog box only has inches option (not that it should make any difference since the scaling factor runs the same across the board). Just in case I've changed the units in the sketchup file to inches to bring consistency and match the exporting parameters.
I've exported the sketchup file to DWG and DXF as both 1:1 and 1:200 to cover all angles and then import into Illustrator as 1:200 and 1:1 respectively to no avail. I've also tried to export and 1:1 and bring in at 1:1 but again no luck, and also attempted to import into Illustrator using the 'Original Scale' tick box.
The only way the import works is by selecting 'Scale to Fit to Artboard' which obviously gives me an arbitrary scale. I guess a workaround might be to draw a bounding box over the contents in Sketchup and use this to manually scale in Illustrator? My only fear here is losing accuracy though...
What do you think?

Dates not coming with photos imported from shared libraries
My partner and i both have macs, we both use iphoto. Usually we use the shared photo library features to exchange photos so that we both have all the photos we want.
The problem is that the dates don't follow. I'd actually like to see all the metadata imported (faces etc) but i'll live without that but the dates is a real problem.
I'm pretty sure they used to come with the photos imported from shared libraries, not sure why they stopped... Ideas? How are you sharing the Libraries? How are you reading the dates?

Dates and times of clips imported from miniDVD
I have a Sony camcorder DCR DVD405, and I just tried importing some clips from one of the finalized miniDVD's I recorded on it.
I have iMovie '09. I noticed that the clips get imported just fine, but the date/time stamp attached to these imported clips is not the same as the date/time stamp it shows when I open it in the mac DVD player or when I see the clips on my camcorder. The date/time stamps match exactly between the DVD player and the camcorder, but for whatever reason iMovie import is unable to get the same date/time.
I imported 3 clips and the three are simply 2-3 seconds apart instead of being 1-2 days apart.
Anyone know why mac DVD player can detect the date but iMovie (or the import utility behind iMovie) cannot detect the same?iphonejunky wrote:
At the end of the day, one can always adjust the Date/Time after the import by:
- - Selecting an Event clip or clips
- - File > Adjust Date and Time...
just my 2 cents.
Yes, I can do that, but I have 3 years of videos on miniDVD that I have imported and in order for me to adjust the date and time on each clip, it would take me forever.
There's got to be something that can be done either with perhaps some unpublished config settings for importing, or maybe some workaround to get iMovie to "read" the date/time on the DVD.
Does anyone else have this experience (and then have you found a workaround for it)? -
Dates wrong in RAW files imported from Canon Rebel
I recently imported a large number of pictures from my Canon Rebel via my iPod into iPhoto 6.02. There were a mix of JPEG and RAW files, the dates & times for the JPEGs were fine, the RAW files were wrong, some back at Dec 31 1970, others were 21 hours earlier than the JPEG files.
The date and time on the camera were correct and still are.
The same photos look OK in Adobe Elements 4.0, though I can see the same bad dates in part of the EXIF data reported by Adobe. Adobe shows me several versions of dates though and others are correct.
Anyone seen this, know what's wrong?
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

Hi.
I am doing some work for a client who would laike to be able to import CAD drawings into some Labwindows CVI software I am writing. It is a non-destructive testing application and my business is supplying ultrasonic instrumentation and a software package written in Labwindows. The ultrasonic transducer assembly will be position encoded and manually controlled and the client would like the path followed by the transducer assembly plotted on the CAD drawing of the structure being inspected.
I wrote a routine a few years ago that imports an STL file into Labwindows and displays the 3D image using the OGL library. It works OK, but DXF or DWG import would be better. I gave up on writing code for DXF import because it is quite difficult. Is there any third party CAD import software that integrates with Labwindows? It does not need to be free, but it does need to be easy to use.
I have searched the forum but could not find any posts on CAD import or DXF import.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
John NormanHi.
I was also thinking along the lines of adding the probe path data to a new layer. Glad you confirmed my thinking on this.
The last time I looked, about 4 years ago, I could not find any satisfactory DXF import routine that I could use. At that time I wwas looking for code examples so that I could write my own routines. It just seemed to difficult at the time to write a routine recognizing all the entities in a DXF file that will allow a sensible reproduction of the drawing, so I gave up.
This time I am more interested in plugins that will work or can be made to work with LabWindows. Has anyone tried using the OpenCascade DXF import/export routines, for example? These routines are not free, but that does not matter this time. Is there anything else out there that might work with LabWindows?
When I looked into this in the past, I seem to recall finding some forum discussions on the subject of DXF import into LabWindows, but I don't seem to be able to find them again.

Select schemas from relational model on import from data dictionary option
Hi All,
I have one relational model with 3 diferent schemas,
I want to compare one of my schemas with the data dictionary I have in a database,
I select the import option in the general file menu, select from data dictionary option,
select the connection from my database, swap target model checked, select a physical model and select the objects i want to compare from the database,
My problem is that the result is the comparison between all the objects in my model and the objects in the database that I have selected,
what I really want is to compare a list of objects in my model to a list of objects in my database,
this could be possible? or always need to compare all the objects of the model?
Thanks in advanceHi jbellver,
there is no any development in DM 3.1.0.691 on that problem. In production release you'll be able to compare objects in subview with database or just to select several objects and compare them with database. And of course "generate in DDl" filtering still can be used - it works at "Compare dialog" level.

Comments not imported from Data Dictionary of SQL Server. SDDM 3.3.0.747
Hi,
SDDM 3.3.0.747 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.
Comments are not imported from Data Dictionary of SQL Server 2008. Connection through Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.0 for SQL Server or jTDS 1.2.7
What I have tried? In SDDM DDL generation, Comments in DBRMS for SQL Server are generated with "EXEC sp_addextendedproperty 'MS_Description' , 'Test Comment' ..." so I added extended property named "MS_Description" into SQL Server database, both on table and column. None of them were imported from Data Dictionary into SSDM. I have tried both drivers stated above. Is it a bug or am I missing something?
I've found similar question thread Re: Data dictionary import doesn't import column comments for SDDM 3.0.0.665, so I guess it is a bug when importing with JDBC drivers.

Edited by: MiGli_1006342 on May 25, 2013 9:02 AMExtended properties were not imported correctly from SQLServer databases at DM 3.3.0.747.
Calls to sp_addextendedproperty and fn_listextendedproperty have been modified.
I don't think it is a problem with JDBC drivers.
A bug fix should be available in the next release of DM. -
SQL modeler can not import from data dictionary
It was very frustruted to see that the SQL Modeler hang in import from data dictionary of a database as part of revise engineering. I have to question myself if sql modeler is a serious tool and should I give up.
I am not sure if Data Modeller is still in Beta./Production. First couple off initial versions of a new product are normally buggy.
Regards
Alternatively, If this product is still in Beta, then you can contact the development team or report the issue so that they can take care of this issue in next beta release.

Data Merge Hanging Up on Import
Hi,
I'm using InDesign's Data Merge to build a catalog from a CSV file saved as .csv with Excel. Every time I try to import the data, InDesign stalls out and then "quits unexpectedly" after about 5 minutes. I can't imagine the data file is too big to import, as it has only 50 or so records now (there will be close to 1000 when the database is complete). Any troubleshooting tips?
Thanks

InDesign won't even make it to the preview stage, when I select the data source is when the program freezes.
As for the line breaks, all the records are the same length with no split cells or anything in Excel. However, there are cells with no values (empty, not zero). In the .csv that is translating to item A, item B,,,,, Item G and so on, which worked fine before the formulas came along.
I have a lot of logic formulas going on in the Excel spreadsheet to get the values into certain cells. Its actually befuddled Excel to the point of shutdown now, so I'm assuming that if Excel can't handle it then I can;t expect InDesign to fare better. However, in my InDesign catalog I need, on a table row, to have a field with a label displayed for it if there is a value in that field in the .csv, and have no label displayed if there is no value for that field.
For example, if the record has a hooked beak, I need the label to be beak: so the line to read beak: hooked
If the record has no beak, then InDesign would skip that line altogether and go on to the next one. Like so:
<<record name>>
<<beak>><<beak value>>
<<tail>><<tail value>>
<<etc>><<etc value>>
where <<beak>> and <<tail>> are also fields in the Excel spreadsheet, each cell's contents a logical expression based on the existence of a value in the corrosponding beak value and tail value cells. English: "If value does not equal empty, then write beak: , else write nothing." When converted to a .csv, the field's values are preserved, not the formulas.
Does that make sense? And is there a way to do that with InDesign so I don't need umpteen thousand formulas going in Excel? That would pobably solve the clog.
Thanks. -

Importing from iMovie 06, lose capture dates
When I import old iMovie 06 movies, the capture dates gets lost. Here is one of the original clips in iMovie 06:
However, after importing in iMovie 11, the capture dates are lost. I tried many variations, like import the iMovie 06 project, or cd to the *.iMovieProject directory and import the actual clips, etc.
Now, good iMovie11 clips have the capture date imbedded in the file name (as in clip-2010-03-14 hh;mm;ss.dv). However, the ones imported from iMovie 06 end up in iMovie 11 with simple names such as clip55.dv. So it's not surprising I cannot see the capture dates in iMovie 11.
So I looked inside the *.iMovieProject directory hoping to find the capture dates either in the file name or in a plist, but I couldn't (nothing in the plists below)
... Jan 23 2010 Cache/Thumbnails.plist
... Jan 23 2010 Cache/Timeline Movie Data.plist
... Jan 23 2010 Cache/Timeline Movie.mov
... Nov 8 2009 Media/Clip55.dv
etc
Finally, I opened Clip55.dv in QuickTime and looked at MovieInspector, but I could not see any capture date (similar to exif in jpegs).
So obviously I missed them. My question is where in the iMovie 06 project can I find them? If accessible, I can write a script to fix the clips imported in iMovie11 by changing their names. I tried it manually, and it worked.
Thanks in advanceHi - Couple of things.
Click on the offending clip that you imported from iMovie in your FCP Bin and type Command + 9 to see the item properties. Either report those item properties, or if easier, take a screen shot of the item properties and post that.
Then click any where on the timeline you are having trouble with and type Command + 0 (Zero) to see the sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings window and post that.
In order for FCP to use the video without rendering, both the items properties of the source clip, and the sequence settings must match - and both must be within standard production parameters.
Also, you can click on the source clip in the FCP Bin, then control-click on the clip and select Reveal in Finder from the drop down menu. Once that file is revealed, open it in Quicktime 7 and see if if plays correctly there.
Hope this helps.

Don't want jobs with a past date to run on Database import
I can't get a good straight answer from our DBA on how to accomplish what I need. Here is the scenario...
I have a number of scheduled jobs in our Oracle 9i installation that run each night from 12:00 a.m. on. Over the past few months we have had some infrastructure issues that caused corruption in the Oracle databases and necessitated a restore from backup. Sometimes a full import from a dmp file. My problem is that if the database had been down before and after the scheduled jobs Oracle sees that there is a job that needed to be run in the past but has not yet run. So, when the database is brought back up all of those latent jobs run immediately.
The problem is that I don't want them to run when the database is recovered and need to control this process manually.
What is the best way to bring Oracle back up and flag it to not run any jobs that were scheduled in the past?
Thanks for any help.Easy.
Set job_queue_processes to 0 before doing the import. After the import, delete jobs you don't want (or change their next run date using dbms_job). Then set job_queue_processes back to the value you want.
The fact that the DBA team considers an export as a backup is probably the reason you couldn't get an answer to this simple question. That is a topic for another thread. -
Hi
Can anyone help?
How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file, without SolidWorks enlarging the file & converting every curve into hundreds of short little straight lines rather than a single continuous line/s.
I have made sure the file is ungrouped or has any compound paths or colours.
Opening it in Autocad 2010 still converts the DWG file into hundreds of short little straight lines!
The file is needed to laser cut out an aluminium shape using SolidWorks 2008 (Metal soft)?
Formats they can handle are:
DWG, DXF, IGES, IGA
There must be a way to export it without re-drawing the whole design in Soildworks again!!??
Can anyone help?
INCANot really. This is a limitation you will have to live with. Unless you are extremely careful, most paths will be converted to polyline segments by AI and in particular in AI CC this is somehow busted, so it happens more often. You might have much more luck opening a native AI file in DraftSight or a 2D CAD program like TurboCAD and exporting a DWG or 2D IGES/ STEP file from there. The sizing issue is a different matter, but without knowing what units you actualyl used, nobody can advise.

Import from Designer crashes with IMAGE data type
Hello,
I'd like to report an issue with Data Modeler while importing from Oracle Designer. If you consider this a bug, please let me know if I need to do anything else to request a fix for it.
I've used the import > Oracle Designer Model tool to import an application model. The import runs fine for a while, then crashes with a message "There are errors in import - check log file".
The application to be imported has 509 domains, 963 entities to import.
The summary info displayed after the import (when I close the error message pop up) is:
All statements: 1472
Imported statements: 538
Failed statements: 0

The log file has the lines below:

I see the issue with the IMAGE data type in the log. The model to be imported does have domains and entities using this data type. The domain actually did get imported, but it shows as "Unknown" logical type, even though there is an Image type available in the Data Modeler type list. None of the entities using IMAGE got imported.
Please let me know if you can provide a fix or workaround for this (other than changing the format in Designer).
Thank you,
Beatriz.Hello Beatriz,
definitely this is a bug. The problem with entities is not IMAGE data type it's supported there (it's overlooked for domains). The problem is volume information - Initial, Maximum, Average, Growth rate. No workaround for that.
Domain can be changed manually if it's just one affected.
