No 4:3 aspect ratio option in iMovie 10.0

iMovie 10 won't let me choose 4:3 as an aspect ratio. Does anyone know how?

I'm not sure if this will help however here's what I've figured out so far.
I did a video screen capture that was a little off from a 4:3 ratio. When I create a project that's 16:9 (default) and follow the steps above, the only export choices I get are based on a 16:9 ratio.
When I created an actual 4:3 ratio clip and followed the same steps I did have a 4:3 ratio choice in the export list.
Another thing I realized was, with the clip that's a little off from a 4:3 ratio, I can sellect a section directly from my libarry and share it. When I do this I get a chice of 4:3 ratios that's slitly off in the export menu.
Aloha.

  • How to set aspect ratio options for Image Dialog

I have a requiment to create a new Aspect Ratio for image crop, besides the only default option of Free Crop
I understand that there was some path where you could set this up in CRX, prior to 5.5, but that path doesn't exist in 5.5. The path was /libs/cq/packaging/components/pack/definition/dialog/items/tabs/item s/tab3/cropConfig
I found this out from this forum question:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575600#4575600
Where in CQ5.5 Can I set these aspect ratios? I've queried the entire CRX for nodes of similar names as in this path, but cannot find it anywhere.
    Thanks guys!

    Hi,
I have the same problem using CQ 5.6.1. I want to extend the default Ratios:
I found out that this config is located under /libs/dam/gui/content/assets/crop/items/actionbarcontainer/items/default/items/aspectrati o/items.
My question is were and how can I put an extension to these predefined ratios if I don't want to edit them under the libs node.
    Thanks, Andreas

  • Aspect Ratio options - why locked out?

I have a DV project shot in anamorphic widescreen, so (as I understand it) it's 720x480 with non-square pixels. It's in Avid Xpress Pro HD. Of course this footage appears vertically stretched on a standard TV so I want to burn a DVD that will automatically letterbox the image on a standard TV.
After importing to Encore (using QT .mov files for the moment) the footage is obviously not being treated as 'widescreen' and the resulting DVD is not letterboxed - it's stretched vertically. My first attempt was to 'specify the screen aspect ratio' of that asset as the user's guide describes: selecting the asset, using File > Interpret Footage. But this is grayed out in the File menu!
Next I tried to put the clip into the timeline and change the timeline's aspect ratio (in the properties pane, there are radio controls for 4:3 and 16:9). But these options are grayed out also!
Looking at the clip while editing transcode presets, Encore seems to know that the footage should be widescreen... When the 'Source' tab is selected, it's vertically stretched. When the 'Output' tab is selected, there is letterboxing visible, and when selecting '1:1 Pixel Preview' the footage gets even more vertically compressed and looks fine. So why doesn't this work later in the process? Thanks if anyone can help.

I've run axcross this one recently with MOV files from FCP as well.
Load the exported MOV file up into Premiere and it tells me the PAR is 0.9, which is wrong.
This was with a 10 bit uncompressed Blackmagic encode, and even in QT Pro it still displayed vertically stretched.
I solved the problem by encoding to MPEG-2 out of CCE SP and setting the export flag to 16:9.
When imported into Encore "As Is", you cannot get this to work.
    Alternatives:
1 - Encode to MPEG-2 externally, as long as the MPEG encoder understands the Mac format video file.
2 - Re-encode the file from Premiere Pro.
Import into PPro, and interpret the footage to the correct PAR, then export out as an uncompressed AVI file if you wish to avoid a DV codec, or else export out of PPro as an MPEG-2 clip - but do not forget to interpret the footagefirst, or all you will get is a vertically stretched clip with black bars either side.
    Macs?
    Don't get me started.

  • Exporting 1920x1080 iMovie 11 Clips to FCE 4.0.1 - loss of aspect ratio

I'm editing a movie in FCE 4.0.1 at 1920x1080 and I'd like to bring across a file I created with iMovie 11. I used the "Export Final Cut XML" option to get my file across, but when I import to FCE the aspect ratio gets mangled into 1440x1080 (according to its Item Properties). I'm just getting my feet wet with this, so is there a pixel aspect ratio option I need to fiddle with, or could it be something else completely?

Sorry, it didn't mention the camera at all in the inspector; I thought that was what you were after.

  • IMovie 10.0 How can you keep the aspect ratio to 4:3 for older movie clips?

I upgraded to iMovie 10.0 from 9.09. When I try to use an older movie clip that was shot in 4:3, iMovie changes it to 16:9. Is there a way to keep the aspect ratio intact?

  • ASPECT RATIO Elements 11

Is it possible that I LOST my aspect ratio option in tool options when cropping a photo for the website???  It is gone and I am sure it was there before. Using photo ratio, customer or other is no good for what I am doing. Please help someone.

Aspect Ratio does not appear in PSE11 Crop Tool.
This is the standard Tool Panel (you can enter your own dimensions in W & H):
And these are the standard drop downs:
File> New> Blank File allows you to create empty documents with various Film/Video aspect ratios.

  • Please watch and see if you can tell me how to correct the aspect ratio

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shiFprOnbK4
This is an unfinished std. def video hence this issue I ran into which is just a fun video for my youth group kids I teach at my church. I am editing it in final cut pro 7 and if you see at about 35 seconds the aspect ratio changes whatever its doing with the picture there.
I have never ran into this problem before so I don't know if its something I may have selected on the camera accidentally or done wrong in FCP but I shot all the video the same day of course for this event of ours and all the other video is fine an in 16:9 or what was called the "letterbox" option on my Panasonic DVX100B.
Please help me correct it if you know how. Thank you very much in advance.

I can't watch the video as well. Not quite sure what trouble your having
Aspect ratios can be tricky and there are a few spots you can mess them up. First I would check to make sure that your sequence settings are the same aspect ratio as your original footage. I would also make sure your exporting with the correct aspect ratio as well. (If you’re using the quicktime conversion option. Sometimes depending on your settings options like 16:9 are not turned on by default and you need to check them before exporting.)
Also if you can change the aspect ratio in FCP regardless of your sequence's aspect ratio is. Under your distort tab there is a aspect ratio option. +33 will make your footage 4:3 and -33 will make your footage anamorphic. However this will only stretch your footage. This method is only useful for when you can to place 4:3 footage into a 16:9 sequence without it appearing distorted and stretched

  • Changing aspect ratio of copy protected videos?

I am attempting to watch a widescreen TV show I purchased through the iTunes store on my LG plasma screen. My usual setup is a digital video out and into the plasma using VGA. The screen in this mode only gives me two aspect ratios to choose from: 16:9 or 4:3. In 16:9 mode the image appears streched and in 4:3 mode I have black margins an boths sides of the screen. When I watch a widescreen video in 16:9 it is streched with margins at the top and botton and in 4:3 mode I have now margins left and right and top and botton. I therefore usually change the aspect ratio in Quicktime so that it displays correctly in 16:9 format on the plasma. Unfortunately the new TV shows in the store are not just copy protected but I now cannot even change the aspect ratio of a video anymore under "movie properties". So the only option I have is to use the S-video output of my old Powerbook and connect to the composite input of the plasma. While this gives me many more aspect ratio options (intrinsic to the design of the plasma) the picture quality is poor. So how can I solve this? I do not want to purchase Apple TV. I have everything hardwired and do not want to change that. I understand that the files need to be copy protected. However, Apple should enable me to change the aspect ratio of a video to be able to view movies at high resolution and without a distorted picture. Any idea how to solve this?

    Hi Sameer,
Thanks for your note, but the issue a bit different. Clicking the "fit page" and "fit width" allows you to change the zoom on the document, but the viewing area within the pod remains at a fixed ratio. So the document (unless the pod size is set at the same ratio) never fills the entire pod. Is this clear? I've added some screen shots to show what I mean more clearly.
As you can see, no matter what the zoom level is on the PDF (or if it's to fit width as the above screen shot), it's constrained proportionally (as I mentioned, I think it's at 4:3). Ideally, I'd like to get the PDF so it can fill the entire pod and zoom in and out. Is this possible with Connect?
    Thanks! Appreciate your help.

  • Pixel aspect ratio incorrectly identified in Properties

    Premiere Pro/CS4 Mac
I created an animation using CInema 4D and rendered it out using 1:1/square pixels. If I open the file in QT Player, it shows up as 720 x 480 and fills the enire screen... all is well. But when I import it into PPro and look at the file in Properties, it reports it as .909 pixel aspect ratio, which is not square.
This is a problem as I want to put this onto a DVD. If I render an MPG2 file out of PPRo and  set the pixel aspect ratio option to Square, the resulting file
does not fill a 720 x 480 screen; there is black on both sides.
If I use .909/standard pixel ratio, it fills the screen when I view it in QT PLayer, but I am worried that Pro is messing with the image...
I can import the same original file in AE and use the Interpret footage option to force square pixels, but that is not an option for this work. Any idea why Pro misindentifies the aspect ratio and is there any way to fix that? Or is this a total non-issue as far as any potential degradation to the file itself along the way through the workflow?
    thanks for any assistance.

    You wrote:
Can you set up a Sequence/Project Preset as Desktop and choose Square Pixels? You can then Export to what you need.
Do you mean create a new project? This project is essentially finished - a few weeks of work creating it, so I can;t redo all from scratch with a new project template. I don;t think you can change a Project Preset once a project is created, correct? And PAR is not one of the settings that I can change in the project settings at this point.
I can export using SQUARE pixels, but the resulting file looks wrong when I view it in QT Player. I guess the only question now is how much damage/degradation will be done having created the original animations that make up this project using square, then bringing them all into Pro (I guess having used the wrong PAR in my preset) and rendering them out in .909.
    Any thoughts?

  • Aspect Ratio and HD TV

I just installed three HDMI adapters on three LCD TVs.  Two of the TVs are now displaying a HD picture that covers the entire screen.  However my Insignia does not fill the screen.  Over the phone the Comcast Technician decided I probably had a bad adapter so a Comcast technician is sending a on-site technician late this coming Saturday.  However, on the menu I found  a Aspect Ratio option which was set at Normal--Is that where it belongs?   If I selected wide the picture filled the screen , but am I just fooling myself that I now have a HD picture?
    Thanks a bunch,   Uncle Dewey

    Uncle Dewey,
I do apologize for the frustration you're experiencing with your Insignia television. I appreciate your paitence as I try and figure out a solution for you. I might have a possible solution.
While on "TV" input, go to the 'channels' menu and set 'auto zoom' to 'on'. Make sure once this is completed that your aspect ratio is set back to 'normal' or if listed, 'auto'. Let me know if this resolves your issue!

  • Aspect Ratio Sort and Export (File Naming)

When I crop my photos, I sometimes find that some photos work best in the 4x5/8x10 crop and others in a 2x3/4x6 aspect ratio.
Issue #1) How can I sort and find all of my images with a specific aspect ratio?
When in the Library module and setting up a filter (ctrl+f), I don't see any way to filter and sort out my aspect ratio. In the "Metadata - Label" filter fields, there is an "Aspect Ratio" value however the only options are Portrait and Landscape. (more of a photo/page layout than 'aspect ratio' to me)
** Feature Request: Please add "Aspect Ratio" options (just as presented with "r" is pressed for resize) in the Library Filter Metadata. **
Issue #2) How can I include the aspect ratio of the image (e.g. 4x5) in the exported file name?
I don't see any way to to do this either, so I have to manually find all of the images with the same aspect ratio first, then set a Custom Name field for export and export each ratio at a time.
** Feature Request: Please add "Aspect Ratio" options to the file naming fields available for selection when exporting images.  Values like "4x5" and "4x6" would be great to be able to include in the filename of my images.
    Regards,
    Brian

  • Removing Black Bars on iMovie Projects (Aspect Ratio / Resolution Problem)

    Hey folks,
I jusr recently recorded a video using fraps on my PC while playing World of Warcraft. I've transfered this over to my mac to import into iMovie and upon importing the file (using a DV Widescreen profile) there are two black bars on either side of the video.
I believe this is because my monitor is using a different aspect ratio (max resolution is 1680x1050, in otherwords not 16:9 as the profile indicates).
How can I configure iMovie to conform to the aspect ratio of the origional imported video? I know if I import the video and get it edited to the final version I want to encode, there is an option using the Divx codec to remove these bars - But i'd like to keep the video using the H.264/.Mov standards (Divx looks like crap IMO!)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • How do I insert a picture into iMovie regardless of aspect ratio

When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

    nope, never.
    look:
    example #1: a 1:1 pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars l/r
    option B cat-off
example #2: a wiiiide screen pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars t/b
    option B catcut off
and you don't want kitty look like that:
(1:1 aspect ratio distorted to make fit onto a 16:9 screen)

  • Setting movie aspect ratio in iMovie 10.0.4

Im trying to set a specific aspect ratio of my new movie, but I cant find any way to do that. I see help docs that say you can choose the movie format when you create the project but the latest version of iMovie 10.0.4 seems not to offer that feature any more. Nor can I edit the movie format at all anywhere as far as I can see. When I export the movie I have only a very limited set of options all with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Is this feature no longer supported?

It is possible to change the aspect ratio and it doesn't need to be in widescreen. I found out how based on another forum. Here is the answer on how to do it:
    1) Select a clip in the timeline.
    2) Select the "Adjust" button at the top of the window.
    3) Select the "Cropping" adjustment (the two right angles that form a square)
    4) Select "Fit"
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/movies-video/313345-imovie-10-0-4-960p.html#pos t1594108
I do find it annoying that when you drag a clip to the editor that it automatically changes the aspect ratio and you have to change it back.

  • IMovie iDVD Incorrect aspect ratio of movie within dvd

This query has previously been raised elsewhere in the forum but the proposed solution looks quite complex for an iMac novice like myself.
In summary the movie looks fine when previewed in iDVd however, when burned to disk and then played on my DVD player the sides of the movie have been cropped.
Is there a 'simple' solution to maintaining the original aspect ratio of the footage from iMovie to iDVD?
    Is there any s/ware available?
    Thanks in advance

Open your Movies Folder. Create a new folder. Name it PROJECTNAME – TS FILES (where ‘projectname’ is the name of your project!). Close the folder. You can of course call it anything you like, but this aids identification.
Now double-click the disk image on your desktop. It contains two folders: AUDIO_TS (which is empty, but please pretend that it isn’t) and VIDEO_TS. Drag and drop these to the folder you created in your Movies Folder. (This takes a moment).
Click on the AUDIO_TS folder and go to Get Info in the file menu. Right down the bottom is where you have to change the permissions. Under ‘Ownership & Permissions’ change this from Read Only to Read & Write. Click the small triangle next to Details, scroll down and click on ‘Apply to enclosed items’. You will be asked for your root password. Close the get info window, and now click on the VIDEO_TS folder and do the same. Close the Projectname-TS Files folder. You have now allowed yourself to change the properties of the contents of those folders, which leads us to the next all-important step.
Open myDVDedit. Go to File and open the projectname TS Files folder. By all means stare at it shock and awe, but don’t bother finding out what it can do, except for the following:
Top left you fill see a list of files. Lower centre you have a large window. On the vertical menu to the left of that, click IFO.
In the window at the top left, ignore ‘First Play’ (if there was anything to correct in that, myDVDedit will have done so and told you).
Click on VMG Menu en (English). Now the whole thing springs to life.
Set Coding Mode to MPEG-2 (if it isn’t already)
Set Standard to PAL (or NTSC if that is what you want)
Set Aspect to 16:9 (not any of the other options)
    Now save the file.
Click on VTS Menu 1 en (English) and repeat as above.
Click on VTS Menu 2 and repeat as above.
You have now permanently ‘fixed’ the entire contents of the TS folder (the disk image) in 16:9 aspect. Close myDVDedit – you won’t need it again until the next project!
