No 5ghz ssid for WRT610N

Just got the WRT610N and I can't see the SSID for the 5ghz channel, I can see the 2.4 channel and connect to it but not the 5. It's not a range issue as i've had the laptop right beside the router. Anyone else had this issue? Is the 5ghz channel just broken!? Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies with this, i've tried various settings changes etc, brought the DMA2100 right next to the router, still sees no ssid. I've returned the router, not sure about getting another one, reading the forums there seems to be big issues with range, G and N working at the same time etc. To be honest I don't want to spend time fiddling with all the advanced settings just to get it do what it should out of the box.

  • WRT610N SSID for 5mhz not broadcasting.

I have a WRT610n v1.0 router with firmware version 1.00.03 B15 and for some reason when I set the router to N and to auto channel width it does not broadcast the SSID. On my windows xp machine it only shows the b/g SSID for the 2.4 mhz. Even when I shut off the 2.4mhz and only turn on the 5mhz it still does not broadcast the SSID for it.
Wondering if there is something I need to do to overcome this or?

If that's the exact model then that is the reason why it does not work: the adapter is not 802.11a compatible, i.e. it does not support 5 GHz. Only an adapter which supports 802.11a is able to use the 5 GHz band.
Of course your adapter will pick up the 2.4 GHz band regardless of it's mode.
Thus again: try to set the 5 GHz band to Wireless-A only and check if you can see the SSID now. With an 802.11b/g/n adapter you won't pick it up. Your adapter simply does not support the 5 GHz band...

  • Best Practice "One SSID for everything"

    Hello Guys,
we switched from ACS to ISE and now we want to have just two SSIDs for alle Business Needs:
I´m not sure if this is the right or best way to do it.
One SSID is for Guest Network and also for BYOD Registration.
The second SSID is for BYOD and Company Devices (LAptop ipad iphone....). But we have also cisco 7925g which should get and client cert and then also connect to that ssid. In the old setup it was an seperate SSID with CCKM enabled. Now because of campatibilty i had to disable cckm. Also the new SSId would have CLient band select enabled, which should be good for voice, right ?
With your expirience is it a good idea to but all clients in 1 SSID ?
Is Wireless Voice working fine without cckm ?
What is your recommendation for that setup regarding ssid and voice/video configuration specially 802.11 settings and CAC
    Thanks for help
    Kind regards
    Philip

A lot of vendors will suggest also to have one SSID if possible, but the rule of thumb is 3-4 max.  The main issue is the differences required for specific WLAN's, which isn't just for Data and Voice, but you also have to look at mDNS, multicast, 802.11r, DTIM's, MFP, etc.  You can combine all devices to use one, but all the features/setting will be the same, which isn't ideal all the time.  There are attributes which you can set from ISE to push out to the WLC(s), but its the other unique values that you need to research and understand.

  • WRT 610N 5GHz SSID Name Changed!

I was just checking my setup via the web-based config page and noticed the name of the 5 GHz band had been changed - I am the only one who edits the configuration.
This makes me wonder about a situation a few weeks ago. I manage an open wireless network in a public setting. A patron came in with a newer laptop and could not connect to our wireless network. The laptop asked for the access point's Serial Number before we could go any further with accessing the free, unsecured/open wireless network that no one else seems to have trouble connecting to. Once I put in the number I was able to save our network as a profile on his computer. I wonder if doing this somehow accessed my configuration and automatically changed it? I have it set up so that only certain wired computers can change the configuration, but that I can access it from a wireless/DHCP to change. I did NOT log in, though, I just entered the number and it worked.
I thought leaving the network unsecured would avoid any issues like this. Are some laptops set up to require a log in/or the Access point's Serial Number? Is there some way around this?

Difficult to tell without knowing the exact SSID before and after.
You should have a look at WPS and how that works. The "serial number" suggests that this laptop tried to use WPS or similar to autoconfigure it's network connection to the WRT and I guess that way the router may have set the SSID to the default SSID for WPS configuration.

  • My macbook pro can not remain 5GHz SSID.

    Hi,
I got Time Capsule 1GB yesterday.
And I join 5GHz network from my macbook pro. It was very nice speed.
But my macbook pro forget 5GHz ssid when I restart macbook pro.
Macbook of my wife has same issue.
How can I connect 5GHz network everytime?
    Key chain has no problem.

I settled 5GHz channel. I can connect auto to 5GHz network now.
    Thanks.

  • How to see 5Ghz band using WRT610N and WUSB600N

I've installed the WRT610N router, and am connecting via WUSB600N adapter. I have only installed the driver for the adapter (not Linksys's LELA), and am using WinXP's "Wireless Network Connection" to connect. I've run into problems in the past with LELA causing errors, and I'd rather avoid using it.
The problem is that I cannot see the 5Ghz band. I can only see the 2.4Ghz band. What do I need to do in order to see (and hopefully connect to) the 5Ghz band? (I would hope that my not using LELA would be a non-factor. Theoretically, I should be able to use any brand of "N" adapter to connect with the larger band... Right?)

I have noticed that 5GHz channels on routers are sometimes set automatically far out at channel number 149 and thereabouts. I had a similar problem in that I knew I had a 5GHz band, but I couldn't even see it to try to connect. It appears that the Linksys utility which came with the WUSB600N cannot 'see' past about channel 50.
You may want to try setting the channel manually in the router to something like channel 38. The Linksys utility will definitely be able to 'see' it then, and should offer the ability to connect.

  • MacBook Pro Retina i7 2.6GHz quad (Haswell) vs iMac i7 3.5GHz quad for LPX?

    Hi guys
I have decided that despite the fact I love my current six-core Mac Pro, it's time to move onto something with a faster internal bus, SSD, and faster RAM… and the new "pot plant" Mac Pro is out of my price range.
I need to have a computer for live work, so I am either looking at getting a Mac Pro Retina 15" 2.6GHz i7 (the highest spec Haswell), or an iMac 3.5GHz i7 (the highest spec iMac) + a more basic MacBook for live use.
Really wondering how the Retina MacBook and the iMac with the above specs would compare, performance-wise. It seems scary to be moving over to either of them from a six-core 3.33GHz processor in the Mac Pro, but I am pretty confident that in a lot of ways, such as latency, either of these will actually perform better than the Mac Pro does.
I would love to hear your thoughts, though, on how the MacBook and the iMac with the above specs would compare.
I use quite a lot of virtual instruments, generally run Logic Pro X (although Pro Tools is also seeing a bit of use), and my projects are pretty large. I use BFD3 and other drum plug-ins with a V-Drums kit, which requires really low-latency performance.
How would these two computers compare in terms of heat generation? Would the MacBook get very hot under extreme workloads?
And in terms of general performance - say, track-count and for single tracks with a software synth (say Diva) and a few effects, played in realtime, how might they compare?
Lastly - will all the heat and tiny fan on the MacBook mean that it is more likely to die after a year or two of use? (One of the things I love about my current Mac Pro is that I can replace any part that dies, quickly and easily - and in any case the processor is cooled by a giant fan!)
So - would really love your thoughts, especially if you are using either or both currently.
    Cheers,
    Mike

I owned the imac and then returned it for the 2.6 MacBook Pro. After using both there is a noticeable speed difference between the 2. Not a huge difference but there is certainly more lag using the MacBook Pro. I found that lots of the lag went away when I attached to an external display though. At the end of the day I think you just need to decide if you need the portability or not. At first I thought I would keep the imac and then get a cheap MacBook Pro to use on the road but the thought of having multiple Lightroom catalogs sounds very annoying to me. Plus all the transferring back and forth. I will say also that I've been getting a lot of freezes in Photoshop on my mbp and weird errors like the sleep wake failure error some people are talking about when connected to a USB device. I didn't have any of these problems with the imac

  • How do I manually reset the SSID for my e609n?

I have an HP Officejet 6000 Wireless (e609n) that was previously used at another location and with a different network. Now I have moved and I am trying to set it up wirelessly with the new location's router, and the setup keeps hanging. I can set up the USB connection, but not the wireless one. And I can access a Canon printer on the same network wirelessly. I have tried total uninstall/reinstall, intall in Safe Mode w/Networking, changing from USB to wireless, and everything I can think of to no avail. The only other thing I can think of is that the SSID is set to the old system and is preventing me from changing it; however, the limited info I have gleaned from the net has not given me anything workable for options.
Does anybody know how to manually reset the SSID? (Or, programmatically do so through the USB?)
Much thanks in advance for any help!

  • Default SSID for Cisco equipment

We have several wireless conference rooms equiped with Aironet 340 equipment. Most people have Cisco wireless cards for their PCs. I have a 802.11b card for my PC but not the Cisco brand. Short of asking a collegue to let me look through his setup screens to identify the SSID used, I thought I'd try the default SSID used when installing Cisco equipment. (ie. my Linksys card uses the word linksys for cards and hubs as default). Any advice?
    Kevin Rose

Although there's a good chance that using a "default" SSID will allow you to associate, the best method for easy/public access to a network is:
    - Set the "Broadcast SSID" option to On in the Access Point configuration,
    - Set the SSID on the client to NULL (empty).
This means that almost any client card will be able to associate. However, this means there's *no* security at all for the wireless network.
If the conference rooms are for company (internal) use, it's best to have a proper security policy for wireless access - such as using WEP/LEAP, connecting to the company RADIUS server.
If you still need security, but want company visitors to have wireless access, you'll need a strong firewall policy to stop the general public from accessing the corporate network.

  • ISE/Wireless NAC...One SSID for MAB and Dot1X?

    Hi,
I am running ISE 1.2 and WLC 7.5.102.
I would really like to have one SSID that can do a few different things in the following order...
    1) A device could connect, hit the MAB rule, and be granted access without any type of authentication (Other than MAB) and be placed in VLAN x.
    2) A device would be checked for the appropriate certificate. If this cert exists, the device is granted access.
    3) If a device is not allowed in MAB, it will hit the next rule, which is the dot1x rule. The user will then be authenticated against the AD server.
    4) Everything else hits default rule and is sent to web-auth portal.
I can't really think of a way to make this work with one SSID because from what I understand, you would need dot1x disabled on the SSID in order for MAB to work.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Wireless Anchor SSID for CWA ISE 1.3

    Hello Team,
Trying to follow this guide: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/identity-services-engine/115732-central-web-auth-00.html#anc11
We are trying to enable for a guest access with an anchored WLC.
However when we create the SSID with mac filtering, the local WLC is putting the mac address of the client in to the excluded clients list, instead of passing on the auth to the foreign DMZ WLC anchor.
I have created the SSID with correct anchors.
Any Ideas? Maybe this option doesn't actually work with anchor?

"However when we create the SSID with mac filtering, the local WLC is putting the mac address of the client in to the excluded clients list, instead of passing on the auth to the foreign DMZ WLC anchor."
In the anchoring scenario, the AAA authentication comes from the Foreign not the Anchor as it is layer 2 authentication.
Make sure your Local WLC is able to authenticate the user.

  • Best place to create the DHCP scope for Guest SSID for remote office connected to HQ Foreign-Anchor controller

    Hi Experts ,
Need help with the respect to understand the best practice to place/create the DHCP scope for remote site Guest SSID which will be connected to HQ Foeign-Anchor controller set-up.
how about internet traffic for Guest SSID , which one will be recommanded :
    1) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the local internet
    2) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the HQ internet
    Thanks

    Hi George ,
Thanks for your reply ...So you mean, best design would be to create the DHCP scope into DMZ for guest and let it get exposed to HQ internet ...
how about if I have another anchor controller in lets say in other  office and I need to anchor the traffic or load balance from HQ foreign controller , in that case if I create DHCP scope into HQ anchor controller and if its down , I will loose the connectivity , how do I achieve fail-over to another anchor ?
Do I need to create secondary scope into another anchor controller and let the client get reauthenticated from other location ISE and get ip address as well from another anchor controller . Is it what you are proposing ?

  • SSID for mobile devices - Authentication?

    Hi
I need to setup a SSID/VLAN for my mobile devices, primaly apple iphones..
Right now I just use a standard pre-share wpa key for authentication on the SSID, but I would like the users to have unique logins to the SSID, so I can monitor who is accessing the VLAN.
I Would like to prevent that users should authenticate with the SSID everyday on their iphones - so i do not think that webauth is the right solution.
How can this be done? The users credentials can be read from our Active Directory with RADIUS...
    Best Regards,
    Steffen

Well you didn't even specify what you were using as wireless device....
But in general, you have to setup WPA2/dot1x also called WPA2 enterprise. Configure your AD as radius server (or use any other like ACS) in the wireless ap/WLC and you're kind of good to go.
The clients will have to chose one EAP method that is authorized by your radius server and if they save their credentials, authentication will be automatic.

  • Lost ability to reach Web-based utility for WRT610N

Until recently (not sure exactly when), on my Windows XP system I used to be able to reach the Advanced Setup page for my WRT610N gateway router by pointing a browser to 192.168.1.1. No more: both Firefox and IE say "Waiting..." until they time out. Everything else seems to work fine; I can access the Internet and do whatever else I use the router for, no problem, I just can't reach that setup page. I updated the Linksys LELA utility the other day, but I don't think that would block the IP address from the browser. The lights on the front panel are OK, and Ping looks good:
    >ping 192.168.1.1
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
      ...and so forth...
    Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
I don't have a second computer, and factory reset is a last-ditch plan. Would like to diagnose the problem if possible; firmware, maybe? I did a firmware ugrade last November, but I'm sure I accessed the web setup since then.
This might be useful info; the router manual says that instead of entering the IP number, you can type in http://wrt160n.com to reach the setup page, but instead that address (and wrt610n.com) take me to external Web addresses, while 192.168.1.1 just hangs. I wonder what is the mechanism to trap the numerical and the alpha addresses and direct requests to the router advanced setup? That seems to be where the fault lies, I'm guessing.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you trying to access the web utility from a wired and not a wireless computer?  Wired is the best way to access, and sometimes is the only way by default.
You didn't mention whether you performed a soft reset of the router or not.  That normally fixes the problem for me.
It might be worth it to borrow a laptop and wire it to the router to further narrow down the problem.

  • Need help with QoS for WRT610N

My previous router was DIR-855 and I had opted for automatic option under QoS.
I changed the router in favour of WRT610N since DIR-855 never worked with SIP ALG enabled. I am happy WRT610N works with SIP ALG enabled.
On my one box I do lots of streaming media and I want to assign priority to this box. I also want to assign priority to my Gigaset S685IP phone as well.
I am told QoS works for upstream and not for downstream. Is this correct?
Can you please enlighten me how I set up QoS for one of my computers and IP phone?
Does WRT610N have the possibility to handle QoS automatically? If so, how I can tell it to do so?

Under QoS,you can set the Internet bandwidth priority for a variety of applications and devices. There are four levels priority: High, Medium, Normal, or Low. When you set priority, do not set all applications to High, because this will defeat the purpose of allocating the available bandwidth. If you want to select below normal bandwidth, select Low. Depending on the application, a few attempts may be needed to set the appropriate bandwidth priority.
There are four categories available...like...  Applications, Online Games, MAC Address, Ethernet Port, or Voice Device. So you can setup the priority for X-Box and Voice device.
