No access on podcast share from Windows clients

Hello together!
I have the following scenatio at home:
* 1 Server with Windows 2008 R2 with logged in user and iTunes running (everything is shared)
* 1 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 & iTunes
* 1 Desktop with Windows 7 x86 & iTunes
* 1 Macbook with Mac OS X Leopard & iTunes
With this constellation I want to have access to my iTunes library located on the server from all other computer. With the MacBook this funktions without any problem to access everything (podcasts too).
On both Windows computer the directory pocasts is invisible. I can find the podcast files in the main directory but they are grey and the the playback does not start.
Is here anyone who had already the same problem and perhaps solved it? Thank you in advance for your replies.
P.S. Generally I can play the files by changing the kind of media to movie.

Oleg,
I had the exact same problem here - we have two XSERVE machines here running OSX 10.5.7 server, and we're accessing a samba share on these servers from Windows XP SP3 clients.
When moving a file, I noticed a message in /var/log/samba/log.smbd :
[2009/06/15 12:45:30, 0, pid=50709] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.8/samba/source/modules/vfsdarwin_acls.c:fsp_setacl(126)
darwinacl: failed to set ACL on <filename>: Invalid argument
!#acl 1
I tried to look this up on google, but had no success.
Searching the file /etc/smb.conf for "acl" showed the following line:
vfs objects = darwinacl,darwin_streams
(Un)commenting this line (inserting a ";" in front of the first character) and restarting s,b solved the problem here - I'm now able to move files without having the permissions set to 0000, and the error in log.smbd doesn't appear any more.

  • Accessing Mac File Share from Windows Server 2003

I currently have a windows domain that has a few Mac OS x leopard servers on it. I can map a drive to the Mac share using windows XP and Windows Vista, but I cannot map the drive in Windows Server 2003. I have enabled the Windows Sharing on the Mac server, and enabled the Mac File Sharing on the Windows server, but the windows server does not find the Mac server. I can ping the Mac server by FQDN and IP, but when I go to map a drive to it I get the error:
The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: An unexpected network error occurred.
I have also checked the Local Security Policies, and did not find anything that would cause the issue. Any ideas anyone?

  • Random error accessing CIFS shares from Windows

I am setting up some CIFS shares to be used from Windows clients and in the process I had some random problems accessing the shares.
In hope of finding the answer I checked the CIFS Service and the Active Directory Service, and while watching the screen for Active Directory Service I saw that the "Selected Domain Controller" changed from one to another. I now stayed within this screen and noticed that the "Selected Domain Controller" continued to change and then I found the problem, because an unknown Domain Controller appeared. The IP was 216.150.17.8
I found that when ever this Domain Controller was the selected one, all access to CIFS shares from Windows clients failed! This is correct, because the 216.150.17.8 of course is unaware of all users in Our Domain
    So the Questions are:
    - what is happening?
    - and how to solve this?
    - why is a Domain Controller 216.150.17.8 sometimes the Selected Controller?
    - where does this 216.150.17.8 come from?
Have You seen anything like this?

I now have found out why the DC changes - it is because the CIFS service is restarting ;-(

  • How to access ZFS share from Windows 7?

I am new to UNIX and am having a hard time to get a ZFS share to access from windows 7 on my home network.
I was able to access both WHS 2011 and QNAP 459 share on SE 11 by using the file manager - Server - windows & then just using the IP address, username, password. That was easy or at least similar to what I was used with windows 7.
However, I have yet to be able to access a ZFS pool containing a share that I can access from another windows 7 machine at home.
Apparently, I can mount the share from windows but the login name/password do not get accepted when I add a network connection in windows. Windows does seem to find the path \\solaris\tank_share1 and even mounts it, but the login for SE 11 does not work for some reason.
I changes the workgroup name to WORKGROUP in windows but that did not change anything. I tried to edit the pam.conf file by changing the ownership from root to myself so I could use gedit since it has been 15 years since I last used vi. However, that corrupted the setup as I got "system error" message on reboot that never got out of that infinite loop.
I am basically using the instruction through the following link:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/observatory/entry/accessing_opensolaris_shares_from_windows
Any help to get this problem resolved is much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kurt

The documented procedure of having to edit the pam_conf file seems to work followed by resetting one's password seems to work after all. I believe, by taking away ownership from root to "admin user" screwed things up. I had to relearn how to use vi but that didn't take very long.
Got about 50 MB/s speed coping from Windows SSD to SE11 SSD via very small (5 GB) RAIDZ array in VMWare (running on top of WIN 7-64). I have to try native SE11 SSD next as the VMWare setup is just for practice.
Q: Is there a way to launch gedit from the terminal window in root mode so I wouldn't have to use vi?

  • Why Can't I Access My Leopard Shares from Vista

I can access my Vista shares from Leopard via Go->Connect To Server (although they don't automatically just appear in Finder as they did in Tiger). In Vista, I can see my MBPro, but when I click on it there's a long wait followed by a Network Error, saying Vista can't access my Mac and telling me the network path was not found. I don't get even get a Login dialog box into which to enter my username and password. My MBPro is connected wirelessly to my Airport Extreme network, while the PC is connected via cable into the back of the AE.
Yes, I've turned on File Sharing.
Yes, I've made sure that the Workgroup is the same both in Leopard and Vista.
Yes, I've created a new NETBios name for my MBPro and can confirm that Vista sees my Mac by the new name.
Yes, I've made sure that SMB file sharing (and only SMB) is enabled.
Yes, I've made sure that my username and passwords are identical in both Leopard and Vista.
Yes, I've created an entirely new Network location.
Yes, I've made sure "Read & Write" are enabled.
Yes, I've set my Mac firewall to allow all incoming connections and made sure my Windows firewall is turned off.
Yes, I spent 45 minutes on a call with a very helpful and patient Apple tech support rep who wasn't able to solve the problem.
Can anyone offer any other advice?
    Thanks.

There is a bit of work you need to do on Vista because of Vista's authentication model:
To enable Windows Vista to connect to Mac OS X with Windows File Sharing enabled, you will need to change the following policy in Windows Vista:
    Start>Run>secpol.msc [enter]
Click on "Local Policies" --> "Security Options"
Navigate to the policy "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and double-click it to get its Properties. By default Windows Vista sets the policy to "NTVLM2 responses only". Use the drop-down arrow to change this to "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated".
In Vista Home Premium, you won't have this tool so:
    1. Run the registry editor elevated and open this key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
    LmCompatibilityLevel
    3. Set the value to 1
    4. Reboot
If you are using a third-party firewall on Vista, uninstall it; don't just turn it off. If you are using Vista's built-in firewall (which is adequate for most people), you don't need to turn it off - just configure it for file/printer sharing. Make sure Vista thinks your LAN is Private and not Public.

  • I can't see my Mac shares from Windows

I've read threads here saying people can't access windows shares from their mac using Leopard. Well, I'm having this problem too...AND I'm also have this problem the other way. From my XP machine, I CANNOT access or even see my Mac shares like I used to in Tiger. I've tried messing with all the settings on the Mac side, and nothing works! ARGH! So frustrated!
Before, I could access my mac shares from my XP machine by typing in my username and password, that's what I'm trying to do, but no matter what I do, I can't get my XP machine to see my mac shares over the network. Can someone help me out please? I'm almost to a point where I'm desperate!

Okay, I give up. I can see my XP PC in Finder sans firewall, with all of my Mac exposed, and cannot see my Mac from the XP PC at all, no matter what I do. I've spent hours on this today and after reading and trying everything, I realize there's no way to do it. There's no safe way too look into my PC, and no possible way too look into my Mac. I can't believe Apple made me believe that I could do a simple thing like network my PC and my Mac.
I'm so utterly disappointed--you want something to "just work", and there are 500 options and settings and nothing works. I want to love Apple so much, but after spending all night trying, I realize it just doesn't work. Too bad, I really wanted to use this Mac at work.

  • Access linux file system from windows and vice versa

    Friends
Do anyone of you have any idea about how to access linux file system from windows using java. Thanx in advance.
    Regards
    Rakesh

"Accessing" is vague. Do you want to read? write? Both?
Here are two ways I'll mention.
    1. Write an ftp client for the "cleint" computer. I beleive java has some framework functions for doing this.
    2. Write java RMI client and server to open, read or write, and close a file. Pass a byte array parameter containing each block of data.

  • ORA-12571 error while creating packages from Windows clients

    Hello,
We are facing the ORA-12571 error while creating / replacing packages from Windows Clients connected to a 8.1.7.2.0 db on a Solaris server.
    However, there are
    1. no errors in connecting and creating transactions from a Sql session
    2. no errors in creating / replacing unwrapped/wrapped small (few lines) packages
    3. no errors in connecting from a Unix session (remote telnet sessions inclusive).
This happens only when creating wrapped/unwrapped packages, source code of which is greater than 500 kb approx.
Can somebody help me resolve this issue. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.

Update: I had unintentionally left my custom tablespace in READONLY state after an earlier experiment with transportable tablespaces. After putting the tablespace back into READ WRITE mode and creating a new template, I was successfully able to create a new db from the template.
I'm still a little curious why this procedure wouldn't work properly with a READONLY tablespace, however.

  • Server 2.2.1 - Disable "Share with Windows clients (SMB)" as default for new Share Points

I have been experiencing issues with the native OS X 10.8.3 Server SMBx service.  I have therefore disabled it in favor of full Samba via SMBup.  With that said, when I chose to add a new share, by default OS X Server activates "Share with Windows clients (SMB)"  I would like this option disabled by default as I am managing my SMB shares through SMBup.  Is there a preference to accomplish this?

  • Canon MF4320d, share from Windows XP Prof

Is it possible to get work a printer share from Windows XP professional with Canon i-SENSYS MD4320d (USB-printer)?
I've installed the printer to my Windows computer. All of my computers are connected to a AirPort which share's my internet. Of course windows laptop finds the printer very easy, but Mac OS X does not..
Sharing a windows USB-printer is a bit tricky with Mac OS, is there a way to get share work with this printer?

    Hi there,
Looking at the Canon UK web site, it shows this model uses the Canon UFR2 driver on OS X. This driver does not work at all on OS X when it is connected to a Windows share.
You mentioned that you had Airport. You may find the MF works better when connected to the USB port of the AE. Although I have experienced problems previously with a mates MF4150 that was connected via an Airport Extreme. It used an earlier version of the UFR2 driver and it never recognised the MF when connected to the AE's USB port.
If you can connect the printer to your Mac and then share it to the PC, then this may be a better solution for you.

  • Cannot access CIFS shares from Windows 2008R2 on NSS3000

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade our 2008 domain to 2008R2 but with that last version we cannot access to cifs shares on the NSS3000. Access from all other clients are OK. It was 100% OK under 2008...
Whether I use the IP or the FQDN, I got an error from Windows 2008R2. From IP, I got "No process is on the other end of pipe." and from network Gui, I got "Windows cannot access \\nas0026CB647BC6. Check the spelling of the name...blabla. It is likely to be an incompatibility between Windows 2008R2 smbv2 and the NSS3000 smbd but I can't find any firmware update and I can't find the process to allow in the registry.
I can ping it, I can connect on the web interface, I can connect on FTP but no CIFS at all.
Firmware version running is 1.20.1. Hardware rev : V03.
    Any idea?

Hi SpaceBass, have you looked into sharepoints or into Netinfo manager. I have been playing around with sharepoints and it does let me enter non local users into the sharing prefs- albeit manually. Only thing is , depending on the number of macs you have, it could be a long and tedious job entering it all by hand. Netinfo may have an easier way, I'll do some more digging and post back.
    Cheers.

  • Cant access a DFS share from a Windows 7 computer

I am having DFS share access issues with a Windows 7 workstation.
My setup is I have 6 windows 7 stations accessing this DFS Share.
All computers have the same Administrator password and another User/Password
All but 1 are working as they should.
The DFS share is running under Server 2008 R2 and contains files from this and another server.
From the workstation, I can see the server under Network.
I can open it and see the individually shared volumes and I have full read/write permissions.
I can see the DFS share and I can map it.
If I try to open the shared volumes within the DFS file I get a message saying I dont have permission.
Interestingly, when I look at the properties of the DFS share form the workstation, I dont see a DFS tab.
If I do this from a workstation is is able to connect fully to the share, I see a DFS tab in the properties.
    I tried to include everything,
    Thanks in advance

  • Cannot browse to Server 2012 shares from Windows 8.x

I can't conntect or browse to any shares on a 2012 server from a Windows 8.1 client. I can connect from Windows 7 to server 2012. And from Windows 8.1 I can connect to 2008 servers. Is this a new security feature/setting on Windows 8.1 or on Server 2012?

    Hi Spetroski,
Based on your description, I’m a little confused with your question. Please let me confirm something more.
Is it in a domain environment? Did you mean you type the share path in
Run, and then access share? If so, please check if use server’s IP address to access, will the same result?
If I misunderstood the connection way, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Please confirm which following scenario is similar with current state of this issue.
When use Windows 8.1, you can connect to server 2012. However, can’t browse and access all shares that host in server 2012.
Can’t even connect to server 2012, when use Windows 8.1.
If none, please feel free to let me know some details.
Meanwhile, please let me know if you can find some error message when this issue occurred. If can find, please
post the complete error messages here.
    Hope this helps.

  • Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows 7

I have a Time Capsule 2TB which serves several Macs and a PC running Windows 7. I was able to access the disk from Windows 7 to share files. My PC suddenly stopped seeing the disk - although the Windows 7 machine can still access the web through the Time Capsule.
When I run the AirPort Utility through Windows 7 it is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I can however see the Time Capsule and the disk when I 'Configure other...' and enter the IP address manually, but still cannot access it.
I am using Airport Utility version 6.2
I thought it might be an issue with the Time Capsule and bought a new one but encountered exactly the same problem.
I read that turning 'Search' off in Windows 7 might solve the problem. I tried doing that but still cannot find any AirPort wireless devices.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be using the airport utility from windows .. not 6.2 which is only a Mac version AFAIK.
Did your windows suddenly decide spontaneously that it is now in work or public network.. instead of home.. windows does this at random intervals to make life exciting for all users. Drag it home.. and make it sit there.
No go, then shut down all the firewalls.
If your problem coincided with the recent upgrade to 7.6.3 firmware.. which would not surprise me, downgrade to 7.6.1 or earier.
