No activity in NEW iPAD

Saturday night I mistakenly posted on an iPod forum the following (now revised/updated) question regarding my iPAD.
[This is a follow up on my Jun 4 posting. Correction!! Sorry!! This is about a brand new iPad].

I work with Windows XP computer with 4 hard drives and 4gig RAM.
I have absolutely no experience with Apple, after Apple II. Enough with computers generally.
Since the original posting I have charged the device for about 10 hours.
Not previously noted: Saturday, after pushing the top right button on the iPad, I saw briefly a red line at the top of the screen, which I wiped to the right. It
has not been back since.
I have tried what I could to make something appear on the iPad, besides an apple icon, that gives way to (a picture of) an USB cord with an iTune
icon. NOTHING ELSE EVER SHOWS.
Here's what i have done, (some more than once) in my computer:
Load iTunes into computer - done.
Register your device - done
Create an account on iTunes - done
"Follow instructions to set up iPad, upload iTunes and sync". These instructions could not be found.
I did notice that in iTunes the File\newplaylist, "get Info", "rating", "show in windows explorer", "display duplicates", and "sync iPod" are all greyed out.
But, as there is no reference there to iPad, I don't think it relevant.
I have repeated my actions above several times, always with the same result, NOTHING SHOWS IN THE iPAD, except what I described above.

I got a replacement I pad for a damaged on- The old Ipad was backed y up in the cloud and verified on all my devices. When I activated my new Ipad using my apple ID and tried to restore backup it said none was available what can I do?

Restore from iCloud Backup; new iPad start at step 4.
1. Erase all contents and settings (Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings)
2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
5. Configuration start
6. Set language
7. Set country
8. Enable Location Service
9. Select network, enter password and join network
10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup
11. Selected Restore from iCloud Backup
12. You'll be required to enter Apple ID and Password
13. Agree to Terms and Conditions
14. Select Backup file
15. You'll see progress bar
16. Red slider will appear; slide to unlock; step #1 to #16 is fast
17. Pre-installed apps will be restored first
18. Message: Purchased apps and media will now be automatically downloaded
19. You'll see a pageful of apps with Waiting/Loading/Installing
20. Message: Some apps cannot be downloaded, please sync with computer

Cannot install apps in the new iPad.

After activating the new iPad and setting up some apps, the issues occur like that when you purchase apps from AppStore and install them, they will always keep in waiting status. But I have checked that the network is OK and restarted the new iPad already. Anyone can assist me to sovle this problem?

Try any or all of these and see if they help.
Check to see if you have a stalled download in iTunes - a song that did not finish downloading or a podcast perhaps. Finish those first if there is one in there.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again.
Tap on one of the "waiting" icons and see if you can get one of them to pause - then tap again to see if they will resume downloading.

Sorry, I can't tell what it is you're trying to ask. What does the warranty have to do with your intention to return the iPad (to whomever) and get another one?
There's no way to deactivate a warranty.
The warranty transfers with the machine, has nothing to do with the owner.
Look around in the Support pages, you can figure out a way to type in your serial number and see what your current warranty status is.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

An Error Occurred during iMessage and FaceTime Activation. I've tried everything. New iPad.

I'm having the same problem! I can sign in FaceTime and iMessage just fine via my MacBook Pro, but just set up my BRAND NEW ipad and keep getting the "An error ocurred during activation. Try again." error. BOOOOO! What's up with this Apple?

New iPad 3 - do i HAVE to install iOS6 during activation?

I would like to stick with the iOS 5 for the time being (until the Google Maps app is back or something equivalent), and I am wondering what the options are with a brand-new iPad 3 / iPad touch / iPhone 4S. I faintly remember that I did not have to connect to itunes setting up my father's iPad last year - all that was necessary was getting an Apple ID for him. Also, I do remember having read somewhere that for activating an iPod Touch, no iTunes necessary and no installations.
Am I remembering correctly?
Is this also the case for the iPod Touch?
I would think it is NOT the case for the iPhone...
Can anyone explain why some devices need to have the newest iOS installed upon activation, and others not? What is the discerning feature? Phone services?

I can't believe that no one knows anything about this, so I must have either asked something really outlandish or phrased my question insufficiently clearly -
Is there a way to operate a brand-new iPad 3 (which I have yet to buy) without activating it in itunes (by which I might risk being forced to update to iOS 6)?
Or are activation and synchronisation of new devices in iTunes completely independent of availableiOS updates? For example, could I connect a new iPad or iPhone to my itunes, activate it and synchronise it WITHOUT being shoehorned into an iOS update?
If these questions seem to make no sense because, for example, one is NEVER forced to update to the latest iOS when activating a new device such as the iPad/iPhone through itunes, then I would appreciate information along those lines very much as well, because I simply don't remember. Last time I bought a device and activated it was an iPhone 4S which I regrettably updated to iOS 6 on the 23rd of September. I did a number of restores from old backups because someone told me that for a short period Apple keeps the new and the previous iOS available, but here you ARE forced to update to the latest iOS, no choice was given. Possibly these different issues are being mixed up with each other in my memory.

Apple's download AND activation servers are being stressed today with all the downloads/activations. It might be best to wait and try later.

Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
Two things come into my mind:
1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
2) Apples activation servers are down.
That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.

Did you update Windows recently or install new software on your computor?bDetach your iPad and do a system Restore on your computer. It normally takes only 5 minutes.
(Start, Programs, Accessories, System, System Restore.
Click on “Restore my PC to an earlier period” and then click on Next.
Choose the most up to date system restore point in the “click a restoration date” listing, then click Next.
Click ‘Next’ on the verification window.
Reboot your computer once the restoration is done.)

I wouldn't say that it is a common problem but it happens.
Are you using the cable and a connecting to iTunes? If the iPad2 came with iOS 5 on it then OTA activation is possible.
How are you trying to activate?

Your ipad has a cellular access number in settings under cellular data.
it is not a phone, and that number can't be used to phone calls.
