No Add-ons

I recently re-installed FireFox 7 but now when I go to Tools>>>Add-Ons nothing comes up. I cannot even find any add-ons to add. I even went to Google and tried to get to the add-on page that way, but I cannot access anything having to do with FF Add-Ons. I tried typing https://addons.mozilla.org/ into the navigation area of the browser but all I get is a "Problem Loading Website" page that says "The connection has timed out...The server at addons.mozilla.org is taking too long to respond.."

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete possible addons.json and addons.sqlite files.
You can also check for problems with preferences.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • I do updates and then have to reinstall previous versions - time and time again because of the number of unsupported add-ons

4 or 5 times I've updated Firefox only to have to reinstall the previous version due to incompatibility with add-ons / plug-ins / toolbars. I'm not a big user of Toolbars but I have some add on I use daily.
The last 3 times I did a "suggested by Firefox" update I've had to reinstall a previous version from my saved files in order to use Firefox. This problem has caused me to return to IE as my default browser - but unwillingly.
My current setup is Firefox 4.0.1 Beta and I had to reinstall a version 3 in the Firefox folder until addons starting working in this 4.0.1 Beta. However 4.0.1 has always hung up, even opening a tab and ceases to respond; sometimes for minutes.
I run Win XP - SP3 Dell Pentium 4 - 3.0ghz with 4 gigs of DDR2 - GX520. So it's not an equipment problem - (I have 4 PC's on my home LAN - although each serves it's purpose and seldom are 2 used at the same time.
When I installed 4.0.1 and then reinstalled 3.x ... I've been hoping for an update --- I love Firefox - have ever since first use - and then today I saw the update versions had jumped from 4 all the way to 7. I was enthused.
Same issue. On install over the V 3.x it showed 6 items of add-ons that were incompatible. I did not remove the V 7 ... I simple reopened the 4.0.1 beta. I use it for single page browsing as tabs locks it up or slows it to a crawl.
I'm having to continue using IE as my default --- I always keep a backup browser, but I don't care for much of anything that has an MS on it's name.
I've never posted to Mozilla ... but the idea crossed my mind over a year ago when I updated and had to back-up and reinstall. WHY can't a program precede the update to check for compatibility, just as an upgrade adviser from one OS to another?
This was the biggest list of all. NET Framework Assistant, Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Roboform ... there were 2 others. I don't use the Yahoo Toolbar. I have Google Toolbar installed but keep it hidden except when I need it (for Page Rank, etc., I work websites).
But I won't use a browser that doesn't support AI Roboform.
I honestly love Firefox. I code webpages - .asp, .html and do SEO ... but I don't know the difficulty of writing even a small application. Would it be too difficult to have a small program that would check for these add-on incompatibilities before installing the updates.
I was impressed with 4.0.1 beta until I realized that opening a new window or tab bogged it down.
I want Firefox back but not with band-aids and work-around bandages. Is there a version between 4.0.1 and v7 which I tried tonight that would support my plug-ins / add-on. My experience with Firefox using versions up to 3.x has been great. But for months and months I open 4.0.1 and open my TV guide at ZapIt and then I've had to use IE 8 for all my web browsing.
My most important add-on is for Roboform and 2nd would be for Google Toolbar - but on a scale of 1-10 Roboform is a 10+ and Google Toolbar a 3.
If this post does not go to the support team at Firefox then how would I go about suggesting an Update Adviser prior to installing an update?
Anyone with a flexible solution - even short term - that would allow me to see Firefox improvements since the v4 I'm using would be more appreciated than I could ever express.
Since I've never posted before I'm not even sure how I'll get a response or be able to see any responses. Something during the registration said I could get an email when a reply was posted.
Thanks again for listening to me whimper and beg for a workable Firefox; I miss it.

this is all I can find, thank you for your time.

  • What intermediate steps to take (updating from 3.6.20 to 14.0.1) to keep add-ons?

Just updated a Firefox installation from version 3.6.20 to version 14.0.1. (Yes, it's a big jump: this computer went several months without an Internet connection.)
''All but one'' of dozens of extensions and themes were absent from the list in 14: it's not that they were listed as ''disabled''; they weren't listed ''at all''. (So I went back to 3.6.20.)
I'm accustomed to the fact that, when you switch to a newer version of Firefox, some extensions also need to be updated—and some are completely incompatible and you have to find substitutes. But I've never had them all just ''disappear''.
My guess (really just a guess) is that I can have them migrate (even if disabled because of incompatibility) and remain in the list if I upgrade to some intermediate versions, rather than jumping straight from 3.6.20 to 14.0.1. '''Is this right? If it is, which stepping-stones should I bother to use?''' Trial-and-error of upgrading to every single intermediate version (it seems there are dozens) is not an appealing prospect. And I'm leery of simply installing the extensions anew, because some of them have folders full of personalized data, which I would like to continue to have accessible through the extensions.
The one extension that was still in the list after the update was Fox Splitter.
These are some of the many extensions that disappeared from the list in the update:
    # Browse Images
    # DictionarySearch
    # DownloadHelper
    # DownThemAll!
    # FireFTP
    # LocalLink
    # Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant
    # NewTabURL
    # OptimizeGoogle
    # PDF Download
    # Save Image in Folder
    # ScrapBook
    # Scroll Search Engines
    # Split Browser
    # Tab History
    Themes that disappeared:
    # Blue Canidae
    # LittleFox
    # NASA Night Launch
    # Royal Blue
    # Simpler Black
Thank you for any help you can offer.

When you updates, how did you do it? Was it by downloading Firefox from getfirefox.com? Or using the internal updater to update Firefox?
    I'd suggest doing the following:
First make sure Windows is all up to date.
Then, click on Help, and check for updates inside Firefox. Install any updates it finds (It might be Firefox 3.6.28, or Firefox 12)
After installing that update, repeat the Firefox check for updates. After you install a version higher than Firefox 4, you will have to click on About Firefox to check for updates.
If at any time during the update process, Firefox asks to update your add-ons, allow it.
Finally, once you have all your updates installed, go to your Addons manager and check for any updates.

  • Problems with Dreamweaver Add-ons being installed in Adobe CC 2014 - OSX 10.9.5?

I have tried to install two add-ons (Photo Gallery for DW and Adv CSS Menu Light) for Dreamweaver CC 2014, but I receive an error notification, stating that they are incompatible with installed Adobe applications.  Both of these add-ons state that they are compatible with Adobe CC 2014, which is what is installed.  I am logged in with an administrator account.  File Sync is turned on.  I have Adobe CC Desktop App 1.9.1.474 which appears to be the latest version.  This is on a iMac 27" Mid 2011 running OSX 10.9.5.  All available system updates have been applied.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the add-ons several times with the same result, on seven different computers of the same build/image.  This is in a classroom environment.  Any recommendations on additional things to try?  Any help is much appreciated!

More info:  I tried using the Extension Manager CC to get these extensions installed and they each failed out.  One stating that the extension required version 8 or greater of Dreamweaver and the other version 9 or greater.  It would seem to me that, for some reason, either Adobe or the system is not reading the version information correctly of Dreamweaver 2014 which is installed on these workstations.

  • Extensions (Add-ons) shown in Extension manager are not in Photoshop cc 2014

I started with Photoshop cc and downloaded several Add-ons which I used, particularly Adobe Watermark. When Photoshop cc 2014 was released we realised that the majority of these Add-ons would not work in this new edition of Photoshop. Consequently I have to also run Photoshop cc as well to allow me to use these Add-ons.
If I open Adobe Extension Manager, and select under Products I see a list of all the Add-ons that work in Photoshop cc, which is correct. However if I select Photoshop cc 2014 I see a long list ( 16 Add-ons) which have enabled ticked by the side of the name. Only 5 of these actualy show  in Photoshop cc 2014, so something is wrong here.
I assume that Adobe Watermark is an Adobe product, so when are Adobe going to sort this out, and the problem in Adobe Extension Manager?

Flash based extensions are not supported by PS CC 2014 anymore. Please refer to http://blogs.adobe.com/photoshopdotcom/2014/04/photoshop-spring-cleaning.html, http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2014/06/installing-the-2014-release-of-creative-cloud.html
And http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2014/06/2014-release-of-photoshop-cc-faq.html#plugins (scroll down to "Why don’t my 3rd Panels show up in the 2014 release of Photoshop CC? What happened to Oil Paint, Mini-Bridge & Kuler?”)
If some extensions are not supported by PS CC 2014, you have to continue to use them in PS CC until their HTML based counterparts become available.

  • Add-ons in Extension Manager cc incorrectly shown in Photoshop cc 2014

From the screenshots you have sent, we can see that not of all of those items that are installed under Extension Manager->Photoshop CC 2014 are accessible from the Window->Extensions menu in Photoshop. Some of them are Actions for example such as the ones by Panos, and Canvas Wrap is accessible from the File->Scripts menu.
For Edge FX, it is not compatible with CC2014, but there is a new Edge FX Pro version which supports CC 2014, available here: https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/3189#.VEeJ--eSlS0.
Adobe Watermark and Watercolor Assistant have compatibility with only CS6 and CC, so it is likely that you have had most of these extensions installed for a very long time before their compatibility criteria was updated a few months back following the launch of CC2014. The best solution to tidy things up may be to uninstall all of your extensions from Extension Manager, then log on to the Addons website and click into 'My-Add-ons', then download the products again which will ensure you are receiving the latest versions and only the CC 2014 compatible ones. From that page you will also see at a glance the 'Where to Find it' information for accessing all of the extensions within Photoshop.
Russell Brown and his team internally who put together the Photoshop extensions are working on CC 2014 compatible updates to the Adobe extensions that you have, so we hope to see an update to them in the near future. If you would like to use them just now before they are updated to support CC2014, you can use them with Photoshop CC (or CS6). It is possible to have multiple versions of Photoshop installed on your computer, and as you are a CC member, all previous versions are accessible to you. You simply use the CC Desktop App to install older versions of Photoshop. To do this, launch the CC Desktop App and click on the 'APPS' tab, then scroll down until you see 'Filters & Versions'. Select this, then choose 'Previous Version'.
Hope this helps but please get back in touch if you have further queries.

  • Some add-ons are missing in the tools menu and / or modules and navigation bar

I am running Firefox 20 FRENCH (this is maybe important as all of this below does not appear with the EN version...) on MacOSX 10.6.8.
    Symptoms :
    - Web Developer toolbar not displayed anymore.
    - Xmarks add-ons not displayed in the module bar.
    - Icons of other add-ons displayed in the navigation bar ONLY after the first firefox opening i.e. just after system restart. If firefox is closed and re-opened, all the add-ons icons are lost.
    > All the add-ons are installed in tha add-on menu.
    > This behavior only appear with the FRENCH versions of firefox (tried 19.0.2 and 20).
    > Installed the 19.0.2 ENGLISH version and all is OK !!!
Fixes attempts (tried almost everything...) :
    - Reset firefox profile and restart with a new one : no effect (after I have reinstalled all the add-ons one by one...)
    - Uninstall Firefox (with profiles folder, cache folders, etc...) then reinstall : no effect
    - The only thing that is working is using the ENGLISH version...
This is really annoying because as a web developer I really need the Web Developer extension.
Does anyone has an idea of how to fix this ?
Thank you very much for your help !
    Regards,

Does it have any effect if you change the general.useragent.locale pref to en-US ?

    Hi,
I have re installed IE11 several times via tools advanced etc.
Which tools did you used to install Internet Explorer 11? How did you enable it?

  • How do I get a listing of every add-on in a category in the new, poorly designed "Add-ons" web page?

When I go to the add-ons page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) and select a category I get three items at the top, none of which are any use, and three columns of "Recently Added", "Top Downloads" and "Top Rated". I may be looking for an older add-on, a bit specialist, so not popular, and maybe not overall well rated, but right for my purposes. Moreover these listings give no synopsis and the page.
With the old search engine I could enter a category and immediately get a list with all available add-ons, with synopsis, and use my own intelligence to decide what I wanted.

No use at all with Firefox 4. If the search box is left empty "Please fill in this field" is returned.

  • How do I REMOVE an ADD-ON from my TOOLBAR, when said ADD-ON does NOT show up in my ADD ONS Manager?

    I have been instructed to:
"When you open Firefox up in the left hand corner there is a drop down box that says "Firefox". Click on this and go to add-ons a new page will open with tabs on the side.
Click on ADD-ONS, use ADD-ON Manager...."
That does not happen that way. (I am on Firefox 19.0 for MAC.)
When I click on Firefox (left hand corner at top of screen) "ADD-ONS" does NOT appear.
I get "preferences" and "services" plus, of course ABOUT/HIDE/SHOW/QUIT choices.
Running through ALL choices in PREFERENCES (which was not included as a step in your description) I find NO WAY to "deal with" ADD-ONS in General, Security, Privacy or Advanced.
"services" says only NO SERVICES APPLY"
I KNOW that I have an "ADD-ON Manager" I can open that. The ADD-ON that I need to REMOVE/Uninstall/Disable does NOT show there.
It is an ICON on the lowest level of my toolbars showing above my window. Whether this is an awesome bar, or any other specially named bar I can't tell you, but: LOWEST section.
This creepy ADD-ON (that I never personally installed) is called PRICEGONG - and it is now opening up a pop-up on all my eBay pages and elsewhere -trying to sell me things.
It is wasting SO much of my time and I need to get it gone.
WHAT do I do now? The PRICEGONG company has explanation of what to do to uninstall, but (no surprise) THEIR instructions/steps do not match reality either. RESULT: I can't get RID of this thing and am wasting huge amounts of time now with it.
    WHAT CAN I DO?

hello, the addons manager is exactly the right place to look for it. please try disabling the addons that are listed there one-by-one (a restart of the browser might be necessary after each step). maybe one of them is bundling this kind of adware.

  • No new add ons are installing, they say installed but do not show up in add ons

i installed adblock plus, block site, and something to open a new tab to homepage. they all SAY they are installed and restart firefox at the end of the installation. yet this has no effects, i see add ons, have no way to use block site at all, and my new tabs still dont open to homepage. so i went to tools>add-ons and none of the add ons installed even show up. just what was already there
i dont know if this has something to do with conduit. i worked like 2 hours to get rid of it, deleting it from hkey registry, running a full scan with eset smart security 6, deleting all my cookies, my history, clearing everything in about:config many many times. still when i open a new tab it is in search:conduit even after disabling every single add on many of which have absolutely nothing to do with conduit. yet when i run firefox with ad ons disabled it goes away and new tabs open to the rectangles where you can pick google, yahoo etc. my preference would be for the rectangles to appear. but if i must i will use open new tab to home page add on. just the problem is that i cant install it.
now when i search for conduit in about:config conduit came back yet again. guess i couldnt get rid of it after all! this is so frustrating. i really need someone who knows their stuff and i would greatly appreciate help. all previous posts i read on how to get rid of it all proved useless. why is there no solution to this problem?!
right now i just want add ons to work because it seems that, at least for now, when i type something in to the url bar it searches in google, so if i can get new tabs to open in anything but conduit i guess i can ignore the fact that it is really annoying that conduit is still located in about:config. (oh and yes i did delete everything from add/remove programs realted to toolbars and conduit or whatever similar)

oops my bad. first paragraph meant to say "i see ads". not ad ons

  • 2 questions. can i get rid of the " thousands of add ons" dialogue box below my browser? i find it annoying, pointless and it feels like a commercial and second i want the about mozilla text at the bottom of the page gone can these 2 things be removed?

just want those 2 things to not be on my homepage. i know how to use the add ons link in the options panel why do i need a text button on my home page. and also the "about mozilla" button at the bottom of page couldnt this also be in the options panel? i just want a clean looking home page with nothing on it i didnt put there.

There's a lot there, so I'll start with the parts I can answer quickly.
The "ACL found but not expected..." messages can be safely ignored, so says this article
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306925
(look below all the "SUID" examples)
I had changed my Desktop image earlier but when the "Installing 1 item" window came up it changed back to the back ground that you first see on your desktop after installation.
Leopard installs updates a bit differently. If it's simply an application that does not change system files, it installs them like before, without having to restart. If the update is to the system, then you must immediately "restart," It then goes to that stars and purple screen to perform the installation. Before, it would do the installation while you still had control of the Mac and would prompt you to restart when it finished the installation. This change probably make things more secure and reliable, because you aren't allowed to do other things on the Mac while system updates are being installed.
Please post back with the remaining point of concern.

  • I by mistake chose to insall the weather app for Firefox on Apple iMac. I cannot uninstal from add ons since firefox crashes before then. Unable to use Firefox in safe mode. Help!

Basically I recently installed Firefox 3.6 on my Mac Laptop, only 3-4 months old, so latest Sea Leopard OSX System whatever
Anyway once installed I decide to have a theme, then add some add on applications. This seems to be the problem
When I first tried to run it all the apps opened home pages and I kept trying to close them as they did
Next time I got less pages but then I could not access the Tools>AddOns menu before the Firefox browser crashed
What seems to be happening is that the Weather app takes forever to load, my Apple Mac goes into the circle (thinking) mode which means I cannot activate any menus or move my mouse. Then by the time I try and type in say google in the blank www URL address the browser crashed. I have tried going into safe mode using the Option but makes no difference
If I can somehow instal the irksome weather app or get access to the Tool >Add ons menu and uninstall each of the several apps I have daftly installed I know I can get a solution
Any help or suggestions appreciated since I still think Firefox is cool:-). its the apps or some of them that suck!

Maybe you did't understand my previous statement. There are no crashes in FF 3.6, There is no previous evidence FF 14 was ever here, I completely uninstalled all trace of Firefox, no app data, no preferences, no cache. I will upgrade to FF14 so I can send IDs,
    so here ya go.

  • Suddenly in both ff 3.6 and beta 4 all of my add-ons are gone; they are all listed on the add-on page but they are not on the browser--help!

One day when I opened ff all the add-ons had disappeared. I've uninstalled ff and re-installed. I've installed beta 4. I've uninstalled some of the add-ons and re-installed them...nothing makes a difference. I tried deleting extension configuration files in case they were corrupt (per support page)...no help. I'm using Chrome right now but I want my firefox back, I miss it so! Can anyone help me?

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button (in Firefox 4: right-click the extension -> "Find Updates") to do a compatibility check.

  • I closed then reopened my navigation toolbar using the Alt button. When it re-opened the add-ons(?) that were on it were no longer there. I'm specifically looking for two add-ons that took me to "Major Television channels" and "Minor television channels".

I would be content just to have the add-ons back, the one that allowed me to view ABC, NBC, CBS and a handful of other channels, and the one that connected me to the National Geographic channel and I believe some of the Discovery, etc channels . I can get to the Nat Geo if I go through my history but most of the other channels I can't. I've had MozFire on my computer for a while but mainly used Google Chrome until last week when I decided to check out MozFire. As has happened in the past I found myself really liking this program and wondering why I haven't been using it all along.

  • Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. If you have specific questions e-mail me and I will be more then happy to help
