No admin right in Lion after install

hello,
after installing Lion from AppleStore I don't have any right to admin my computer.  the user is set to standard and not other user is available for admin.  today, luckily, it is installed on an external drive and I have 10.6 on the iMac drive but it is a bit cumbersome and don't find any way to have access to my computer, nor any option during install to avoid this.  any clue?
I read many post but didn't find any taking this issue.
thank you very much for your help.
François

hello,
no, and I don't know how to use root for 10.6 or later .... I did it several time up to 10.5.
I cleaned up the HD manually with terminal and with a lot of "rm", since I have some manual backup folders on it.
Actually, I want to test Lion before migrating, I don't want to migrate fully yet.
I haven't had time to re-install yet.
thank you for your ideas, we will see tonight if it works.
best regards,
François

If you can download the ML installer you can make a bootable install media by using:
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
If your Mini came with ML you can also boot to Internet Recovery
OS X: About OS X Recovery
and it will install ML. Make sure you boot to Internet Recovery and not the Recovery Partition. If to the partition you will only get Mavericks.

If you install those new OS X versions over the top of what you already have, your files and preferences should remain.  However, it's a very good idea to have at least one complete backup of your Mac's disk before you try anything like that.

    Ok this is what happened.
1: Lion installed a 600 MB recovery partition
2: Lion installer saw only one NTFS partition on the drive and combined the two into 580GB
You have to remember Apple only works with their Boot Camp system that makes one more Windows partition only.
Anything after that your on your own.
Hopefully you have your data backed up, if not your going to have to use software in Windows (as it reads NTFS) to read the platters directly via the 1's and 0's to recover your data to a external exFAT, FAT or NTFS formatted drive.
Once that's done, your going to have to backup the files from OS X.
Then wipe the entire drive and reformat holding c and booting off the 10.6 disks, reinstall OS X 10.6 then 10.7, then run Boot Camp and reinstall Windows to only ONE partition, then return files from backup.
I think EFI can only handle 4 partitions on the drive, so when the 600 MB recovery partition was installed, took your NTFS data partition away.
Hopefully it kept the data in place.

  • Can you revert back to Lion after installing Mountain Lion?

Since I have bought ML basically all my software (Saf,Mail,iTunes etc..) is not operating correctly. Safari drops out if I stop using after about 15min and the only way to get it working again is to do a hard (forced) re-start and this is constantly happening. Also when opening some applications the icon's just constantly bounce and do not open. Is there a way to re-install Lion and get my money back as I have had enough of not being able to use my 2010 iMac as it was designed to be.

Unless you have a backup made right before installing ML, it's not an easy task. You would have to erase the hard drive, reinstall the previous system, reinstall all your apps and then import data from somewhere. And some data formats have changed - Mail, for example, has had slight changes to its mailboxes in both the last two major system upgrades. The only way to import messages that aren't still stored on the server into an older version of Mail is one at a time.
Since your problems are not normal, I would recommend troubleshooting instead. Start with Understanding upgrade nightmares.

  • How do I find Bridge - it's not on my Mac (Lion) after install of CS5 Design Premium installation?

I had a disk crash on my Mac with Lion.  I reinstalled all software including CS5.  Before the crash, I had Bridge installed & used it a lot.  After reinstalling my CS5, I seem to have everthing except Bridge.  When I tried Phtotoshop > File > Browse in Bridge - nothing happens.  I've searched my drive & can't find Bridge.
How can ai get it back?
    Thanks!

Actually, on a Mac, the Bridge application folder resides on the first level of the root-level Applications folder, not in the Adobe folder, which only contains the Adobe Help.app, the Adobe Patch Files folder, and some Flash stuff.
Also, there are no ".exe" files on a Mac.  Applications have an ".app" extension.

    Hey You All!
    Yesterdy I've Installed Windows 7 Sp1,
And Today When I Tried Writing In Hebrew (Right To Left)
In My Photoshop CS5 - ME (Supports TRL Writing), It Writes Backwards
Like If I Were Using Regular Non Hebrew/Arabic Supporte Text...
Has Anyone Else Encountered This Problem? Please Help, It's Slows Me Down In My Workplace!!!
    Thanks!

    Hey Again!
Well First Of All Thank You For Trying And Helping Me!
I've Tried To Look For A Sloution But With No Luck, But...
It's Seems That There Is Something Even More Weird Going On,
As You May Know Once You Install Photoshop CS5 (ME Or Not) On A Win7 64Bit OS
It Installs Both 32Bit And The 64Bit Versions... So Here's The Weird Part:
    1. If I'm Typing In Hebew In Ther 64Bit Version - You Get The Letters Backwards
    2. But If I Use The 32Bit, Evertyhing Seems To Be Working Okay...
What Do You Think Is Going On?
I Also Failed To Mention That I Also Updated To IE9 Perhaps It Is Causing The Problem Also?
    Anyone?

  • Mail won't open in Lion after install!

Loaded Lion and tried to open mail. It told me the database was damaged and to close it. I did and haven't been able to launch it since. Any suggestions?

I had a problem with Mail when it tried to upgrade my database. It started the upgrade, then just disappeared. It's not the same problem you're reporting, but maybe it's the same cause. I ran SpeedMail (http://www.1802.it/speedmail.php) and that fixed it. I'm not sure exactly what it does, but I'm guessing it cleans up Mail's cache and/or index. Give it a shot and let me know if it works.

  • My Mac have 2x4 (8GB) of ram but after installing Lion os x I can see 2x2 (4GB) or Ram only, I have tried every slot with swaping all the slots.

Friends I have upgraded my SL to Lion after installing I see only 4 GB of ram out of 8 gb (2gb x 4), I have tried all the options changing slots and swaping ram to different slots and card also.
    V' Sam.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply... I just downloaded your recomended software, this software test the memory which is in the list of system, which system says these memory slots are availble. but the issue with my system is different. My all ram slot are working well on both memory slot cards, but in actuall I have 4 memory sticks of 2gb each (8gb) which was installed on one card and when I installed Lion OS X it is showing only 4 GB of memory 2 memory sticks are showing only other 2 memory sticks are not showing in machine when we start and see in system information. I replaced 2 memory sticks with other they were also working and I even tried placing all memory sticks on other memory slot card they were also working but only 2 slots are showing... only 2 memory sticks of 2 gb - 4 GB out of 8 GB.

  • Enable Flash Player in Mozilla Fire Fox without Admin Rights

    Hi,
I am from australia i have a question how do i enable flash player in my system without admin rights. at present there is no access to install software to my system. please help thanks in advance
    Regards
    John Burns

    Hi John,
Admin rights are required for installing Flash Player because it installs to a system-wide location which requires elevated permissions to write to.  Due to this, there is no way to install Flash Player without having Admin rights.   Since it writes to a system-wide location, any user on the machine with Admin rights can install Flash Player.

  • Air and admin rights

    Hi there,
I'm looking into the possibility of porting my regular web
application to an AIR application to make use of some of AIR's
offline capabilities. I see in the forums that admin rights are
needed to install the AIR runtime - this is a bit of a showstopper
for me. Can someone please let me know:
    1. Is this still the case with AIR 1.5?
    2. If I were to package AIR myself and deliver it to my
customer in a CD, would I be able to customize the runtime and get
around this issue of the user needed admin rights to install the
    runtime?
    Sean

The issue isn't with AIR, but with the rights of the
currently logged in user. If that user doesn't have permission to
install applications, then they can't install
any applications, including Adobe AIR applications. So, no
matter how you approach it, if the user has to install anything but
doesn't have the rights, it's just not going to happen.

  • AD users losing admin rights when working offline.

We have recently started using AD accounts on our Macs but a critical problem has presented itself.
Under 'Allow administration by' we are using a domain group called 'Domain Users' and this works fine when users are connected to our corporate network but when they are offline and not able to see the AD servers at login they lose their admin rights.
So even if you create a mobile account this settings has to be validated every time the user logs on.
It has been suggested to use the following command to correct the problem but this has no effect:
    "sudo dseditgroup -o edit -a "domain\groupname" -t group admin"
Has anyone successfully found a workaround for this problem?

Yep.  That is the side effect of the evolution of AD integration.  Many more things are live look ups.  Have you tried password protected screen savers yet?  Yep, live call to AD.  The reason this is failing is the domain users is an AD group and the system can not resolve the GUID without access to the domain.
In any case, there is a way around this but it is a little messy and it breaks the whole point of using the plug in to allow for a single point of control.  If you are using cached credentials, you should be able to add the user to the admin group.  Once again, this posses a number of problems as you are now injecting an AD user into a local account, you have no centralized method of removing admin rights from the user, and each machine requires a custom command (you need to issue the users shortname).
Now, you other option is to say, "it is a security implementation to prevent unauthorized access to the machine when it is not under the protection of out LAN."  Yep, line of garbage, but the real question is, why do they need admin rights?  If for installing software, that likely should not be up to them if you are enforcing a corporate standard.  I generally can't find a good argument for permitting admin rights.

  • First time client opens java needs admin rights to download, any way to push java runtime from ARD and open so they don't have to have admin credentials?

    Hey guys,
I am the IT admin for Macs in our company. When we put a brand new image on a client machine, it works perfectly. I can install and run packages using ARD. For Java however, when a client opens something required by java it says it needs to download the java runtime etc etc... It requires admin rights to download and install. My Users do not have admin privileges to install things.
Does Apple have the packages they install the javaruntime with on the internet to download as a .pkg or something similar? I was not able to find one that I could use and push through Apple Remote Desktop. Any suggestions?
Basically I need a way to have javaruntime on a machine without me needing to log into each computer individually to download it or needing to give admin rights to the users.
    Thanks!

Nevermind; I found a standalone installed located at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421
I install this through ARD before running any update features or anything so the end-user will not have to type in admin credentials since I can do this from my side of things now.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers
