  • How to change the paper type in printer settings?

Does anyone know how to change the paper type in printer settings?  I'm trying to have the ability to change it to photo paper from Photoshop Elements.  I can't find the option in printer settings or through Elements.  I'm assuming I could save an additional printer setting for photo printing, but can't find how to even select a different paper type.
    thanks!

It would help to know which OS you are running as the answer will be different if it's Lion or the previous OS's. You are not running iOS 5.0.1 on your MacBook Pro so provide the correct information.

  • Why have mac OS 10.5.8 printer settings been restricted in Firefox

When I call for a printing of a page in Firefox, my Epson NX420 will no longer allow plain paper as a media option in printer settings, but only photo and presentation papers; and it allows only the Best Photo option under Print Quality. In both cases, other options are grayed out. Gray Scale is also grayed out.
Why have the grayed-out options become unavailable in Firefox (but not, e.g., in Chrome)? How can I restore them?

Try updating to the latest 23.0.1 version of Firefox, and see how it is.

  • No Matte paper option in paper settings Epson 2880

I have an Epson 2880. running with Lightroom 2.4 on a mac with OSX 10.5.7
However when I try to select the Epson Matte paper option in print settings> paper settings , it's not there.
I have loaded the latest Epson drivers and have got Premium Luster surface added but no Matte heavyweight. I can't select this in either 64 or 32 bit mode.
I have the same problem with Photoshop. Now this isn't a major problem as I can use the Premium Luster as a alternative and it works fine.
I have profiles for the Matte paper available, but it makes no difference
I just wondered why I couldn't select the Matte option. It has been suggested that It wont appear unless I have the Matte Black cartridge installed, but I was of the opinion this cart was for uncoated stock, which I thought the Epson matte paper wasn't.
    Any ideas???
    John C

John, you need to do two things.
First, you need to insert the Matte Black cart. Whatever you may have heard elsewhere, Matte Black is not solely for printing on uncoated stock. It is for printing on whatever papers were designed to be used with Matte Black inks, whether coated or not. Enhanced Matte (a.k.a. Archival Matte, Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte), Velvet Fine Art, UltraSmooth Fine Art, Entrada, Photo Rag, etc. are all coated on the printing surface and are designed to be used with Matte Black.
Second, you need to visit the Page Setup dialog box and make sure you have the appropriate paper feed selected. Otherwise you won't have access to all of the matte black-compatible media types, such as Velvet Fine Art.

    Hi Harry,
I'm afraid that we're not able to retrieve this option value. The Advanced Options are actually stored as application level. Some of the options can be accessed with the Word.Application.Options property. But there're also many options that are not
exposed in the Word Object Model. As you can see in this figure, there's no property corresponding to "Use fonts that are stored on the printer":

  • HP Deskjet 5100 Stuck on Grayscale - Color Management Options unavailable in printer settings

    Hello!
My printer is an HP Deskjet 5100 on Mac 10.8.5. It is stuck on grayscale when printing. No matter what program I try to print in I do not get the color management option, even when checking in the advanced options.
On photoshop it's also stuck to grayscale.
I have printed a test page successfully in color. But for some reason no program will print in anything but grayscale.
I have tried to update the drivers, but according to the HP website/driver check everything is up to date.
    Other information:
In printer options, I can't even check my cartridge levels. I receive the following message: Information Not Available
In ColorSync Utilites, under Devices, it says Printer Mode is: "Gray". When I try to assign a different color profile to it, it doesn't take.
I have done a hard reset on the printer.
I have removed completely and resynced the printer with the computer again in System Pref/Print & Scan
Any information would be amazing. I have checked every forum I could find online,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Your printer is not compatible with Mountain Lion, therefore the Mac use a Generic PCL driver which is Black & White driver only:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01856359&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=304431&task...
You may try a 3rd party driver as HPIJS, it seems to support your printer and will more likely provide you a better results than a generic driver.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads before adding the print queue:

  • Advanced print settings not working in cs6

Since updating to Yosemite, I cannot access the advanced print settings for my Epson 3880.  I have the latest driver for the 3880.  No longer can select the paper, profile, etc.

    Problem Solved:
After uninstalling a previous version of Labview Runtime from the target machines and installing the newest version (which is consistent with my development environment) on the target machines, the Print Report.vi and all other report generation VI's I use seem to work fine.
Also important is to make sure that the lvrt.msi file on the development machine is up to date and consistent with the version of runtime on the target machines. This does not update automatically when upgrading to a newer version of labview (at least not when I updated from 6i to 6.02). It must be manually downloaded and inserted into the proper folder.
Thank you Ray at NI support.

  • Printer Settings - black and white option missing

I was printing fine, then all of a sudden, the option to choose black and white is missing.  It only prints in color.  I just bought a Officejet 4620.  How did it revert to this setting?  How do I reset so that I can choose "Properties" and see the option to print color or black and white?  It disappeared?

That's really strange to say the least!
At this point I'd recommend uninstalling the printer software. You can find a guide on how to completely uninstall the software here:

  • No Option for Printing Separations in Acrobat 11

I do not have the option to print separations from Acrobat Pro 11 on OSX Yosemite. I have installed the PPDs and they work in Illustrator and InDesign but do not work in Acrobat.
First, I am a designer at a screen printing shop and have been printing separations on a daily basis for 3 years. I understand how it works. I was working on a PC with CS 5.5. Typical workflow was to design in Illustrator, Print to PDF, open the PDF in Acrobat, save as EPS. EPS was the preferred method since I print the transparencies from Illustrator, and since Illustrator can only open one page of a PDF at a time, I saved the PDF as EPS so that ever spot color got it’s own EPS file. From there, I created a new AI file, put all EPS files on different art boards and printed.
Now I am on a Mac with Yosemite and CC 2014. I know the PDF workflow changed in Snow Leopard. You now have to print to a PostScript file and Distill, which then gives me the PDF i can open w Acrobat and save to EPS as usual.
But, I decided to really dig into Acrobat 11 since it has all the Ink Manager and Preflight features. My preferred workflow would be creation in AI, save a PDF, then use all of Acrobats features for the final check and separations. The Acrobat manual says on page 316:
    “Print separations
    1. Choose File > Print, and choose a printer.
    2. Choose an option from the Comments and Forms menu.
    3. Choose print range and page handling options.
    4. Click Advanced.
    5. If you created a custom printer settings file with the appropriate separation settings, choose it from the Settings menu at the top of the
    Advanced Print Setup dialog box.
    6. Select Output on the left, and choose an option from the Color menu:
Choose Separations if the PPD doesn’t support in-RIP separations.
    12. Click PostScript Options on the left, and select settings as needed. Click OK to close the dialog box, and then click OK again to print the separations.”
The only option I have in the print dialog is my desktop printer.
I have installed the PPDs, which brings me to another problem.
    On this forum
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6735474#6735474
    the gives the link
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=141
which is the adobe.sit.hqx file that contains 5 files with no file extension. Per the “Read Me” instructions, I have placed the “Acrobat Distiller (no file extension)” file in the
    Library/Printers: PPDs: Contents: Resources: folder.
It works with Illustrator, and is not really and issue.
-The file is a 17KB file with no extension that was last modified on 9/9/2001.
    Following another page
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/save-as-pdf-options-not.html#main_InstallAcroPPD
    it give the link
    Acrobat 9 PPD
which is the ADPDF9.PPD file, a 29 KB PPD file last modified on 12/8/2014.
Just to test it out, I placed both files in the
Library/Printers: PPDs: Contents: Resources: folder. Both are selectable from Illustrator when printing a PostScript file and both seem to work. I see no real difference between them.
I also created the PPDs file in the Presets folder of InDesign and can get separations from there as well.
But, I do not have the PostScript or any other print option from the Acrobat print dialog except for my desktop printer.
    SO,
    1) Is there somewhere else I need to place the PPDs for Acrobat to see it? The manual states I should be able to print the separations from the Print Dialog but its not available.
    2) What is the difference between the “Acrobat Distiller” file and the “ADPDF9.PPD” files? Different size, different dates, but no obvious difference in output.
    3) I sometimes print halftone jobs through AccuRip. I have gotten pretty good at manual spot color transparency gradients within illustrator, where I create complex gradients using only a spot color and a gradient with 100% transparency on one end and 0% on the other. But if I have many colors in it, I have to print separations through PotsScript and then Distill it, which flattens all transparency on the separated file. The result is a separation with a placed image gradient with a clipping mask instead of a true vector gradient. I know it has to be flattened when it’s ripped anyway, but I would like for it to ONLY get flattened as it passed through the rip on its way to the transparency, and not during the Distiller separation which then is placed back in AI for printing. Is there any way to do this on a Mac which MUST be printed to PostScript and Distilled?
    Thanks

“I’ll never give you a job to print.”
Lead with an insult, good start.
You know, I read your comment, and the link, right before I went to bed. I thought I would respond then, but thought I should sleep on it. Well I slept on it, and I’m actually MORE p***ed off today than  last night. I will try to keep this as professional as possible…
“Such an outdated time consuming workflow !!!”
No S**t (so much for professional). Which is why it’s unfortunate that Apple forced this workflow on people like me.
I asked SPECIFICALLY about color SEPARATIONS in the title of the post and throughout the post. The link you provided did not provide an answer to this. It explained how terrible “refrying” a PDF can be. And what was the solution it gave?
    “Use EPS and not PostScript!”
    Strange. it seems that is the EXACT workflow I listed! To quote myself;
“Typical workflow was to design in Illustrator, Print to PDF, open the PDF in Acrobat, save as EPS”
That was on a PC, where Print to PDF is still an option. The design is made in Illustrator with Spot Colors, all overprints are set, because a human will be lining up the screens to print by hand, and you need about .5 - 1 point of “play” for when the screen moves so abutting colors will not have a gap of shirt color between them. I can then use all of the functionality of the AI print dialog box and print the SEPARATIONS to a PDF file, and the PDF is then split to separate EPS files for easier control.
Apple in it’s infinite wisdom has taken away this functionality. From AI, my 2 listed printers are my desktop printer and an Adobe PostScript file. Remember, I am SEPARATING the artwork to be printed on vellums that will be used to burn a screen. If I leave my desktop printer active, I can select “Setup”, where i am brought to the system print dialog box, where if I select “Adobe PDF” or “Save as PDF”, I get the message from Illustrator that “The Save as PDF option in the Printer dialog box are not supported”.
So, if I change the Printer to “Adobe Postscript file”, the “Setup” box is greyed out. If I simple  “Save As” and choose PDF, I do not have the option to SEPARATE colors. Do you see the dilemma now? Apple remove the functionality I have on a PC, so my SEPARATIONS can not be saved directly to a PDF, but MUST me “printed” to a Post Script file, which then MUST be distilled to get a PDF of SEPARATIONS.
Which brings me back to the whole point of my post.
““Such an outdated time consuming workflow !!!”
Right, which is why I’m trying to avoid it. In reality, the entire process only involves 1 extra step over the PC workflow, and the Distill process literally takes a few seconds. But, I don’t want to Distill for all the reasons listed in the link you provided. And if i follow the advice of the link, saving to EPS, I DO NOT have the option of SEPARATIONS. Which is why I’m trying to save a PDF from AI, the use all the functionality of Acrobat Pro to SEPARATE my colors. Again, the manual to Acrobat says I can print my SEPARATIONS to a file, but I only have the option to print to my desktop printer from the Acrobat Print Dialog box, even though I have DO have other options in AI and InDesign.
So, great Adobe MVP, can you answer my original questions?
1- why do I not have the option to print to a file in Acrobat Pro?
2- What is the difference between the “Acrobat Distiller” file and the “ADPDF9.PPD” files? Different size, different dates, but no obvious difference in output. (Not what I want to use, but on OSX post 10.6, I don’t really have a choice it seems)
3- Is there any way to print to a SEPARATION file on a Mac without printing to PostScript and then being Distilled?
    I see your skills are:
“PDF forms, PDF multimedia, eBooks in PDF or in ePub format.
I'm an InDesign Digital Publishing Suite specialist too. I am also a trainer and the webmaster of abracadabraPDF.net, the only French web site dedicated to PDF and Acrobat.”
Good for you. Have you EVER had to print separations for a t-shirt? Have you ever had to consider that a person will be physically pushing the ink through a screen, so you must consider the thickness of the ink, how that will interact with the mesh of the screen, which determines the LPI the halftones are printed at, which determines how fine your gradients should be? Because I do it everyday. So your whole “I’ll never give you a job” thing is especially infuriating, and pretty unprofessional.
So not only have you totally ignored all my questions, you insulted me and given me a link that ALSO answers none of my questions. I am also assuming, though I could be wrong, that you marked your answer as correct int he AcrobatUsers forums. Well guess what? Even with you MVP badge, you are NOT correct. At least not for what I’m asking.
If I ever need an eBook, PDF form, ePub or Multimedia PDF done, maybe I’ll use you. But, I would never hire you for color separations for t-shirt printing.

  • Where is the Print Settings Dialog?

    Hello everyone,
I was trying to print sheet music from my Sibelius application. It would not print the final bar. I changed the black ink on my Canon i850 and updated the driver. Still the final bar would not print.
I posted my issue on the Sibelius discussion site and was told to open the File>Print dialog, go to the Print Settings dialog, then set "substitute resolution" to 300, if I am using Mac OS 10.4.
I am using Mac OS 10.4.6. I tried to follow the instructions but I couldn't because I could not find a Print Settings dialog.
How can I find 'Substitute resolution' in my computer?

    Hi there,
When you click File you should have 'Page Setup' and 'Print' as menu options.
If you select 'Print' you will see the print dialog window. If you do not see a menu that is defaulted to 'Copies & Pages', then the application may have what is called a Simplified Print dialog, similar to what you get with Preview. But you should have an option to select Advanced, which will open the normal print window. Here you should be able to select your resolution, depending on which driver you are using for the i850.
The other thing I would check is File > Page Setup. If the sheet is set to A4 but your printed page is set to Letter, then you can loose about 20mm (which is close to an inch) from the bottom of the print (FYI - A4 is 297mm long while Letter is 279mm).
    Regards,
    Paul

  • Can't change print settings on HP C4280

Hi everyone, I can't change the print settings on my HP C4280 printer. I click the third drop down (Copies & Pages) menu after clicking print on a word document or webpage and I am able to see all the options (paper handling, scheduler, etc.- . I am also able to see advanced setting after clicking everything except paper type/quality, borderless printing, and printer driver information. When I click these 3 just mentioned, the advanced settings part that is supposed to load up is just blank- ) .
I have installed the driver and all other hp junk that I downloaded again from HP's website. Anyone have an idea how to solve the issue? I'm thinking the included leopard driver is being used and not the new HP one. I've tried selecting the new driver in system preferences but I don't know where the new driver is located.
Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help since the printer guzzles ink in the standard setting.

Seems like several people are having this problem. HP was actually very knowledgeable and helpful though. A simple manual uninstall and reinstall worked for me, but here are more comprehensive instructions from HP if you're still having trouble.
The issue you are describing would require a more intensive uninstall procedure. Double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Hewlett-Packard, HP Uninstaller. Proceed to the second screen of the uninstall, that asks you to select the device to remove. On this screen, hold the control, option, and command buttons (the three buttons on the bottom row of the keyboard, to the left of the spacebar). While holding the buttons, click the uninstall button. An additional screen will appear with a prompt to confirm.
Be advised, when you click yes all HP software items will be completely removed from the computer. This would include all items installed for other HP devices, as well as the driver package that is preloaded in the operating system. Any other HP devices that are currently installed will have to be reinstalled using compatible versions and the driver set would need to be reloaded from the Leopard DVD if you needed it for any older HP printers.
Click on yes, the uninstall may then take several minutes. Once the uninstaller has completed, empty the trash and restart the computer. When the computer has finished restarting, double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility. In the disk utility, highlight your Macintosh HD on the right, then click repair disk permissions on the right. The disk permissions repair may also take several minutes. After the repair is complete, close all windows and restart the computer again.
You would then be ready to reinstall the HP software. For your operating system version, you are recommended to only install the software version 9.7.1. Which is a comprehensive installation and includes the update item as well as support for 10.5.2. If you no longer have the file you previously download, it is not version 9.7.1, or you are unsure as to which version it is, then you may download the software from our site at the following link.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-55008-2 &lc=en&cc=us&product=3192753&os=219&dlc=en&lang=en
This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

  • Office 2010 Ignores Printer Settings

I've seen this problem posted other places with no real resolution presented. - Here it is -
Ever since installing office 2010 I have several end users / customers that are unable to successfully keep print settings changed in Office 2010.  The settings in office 2010 themselves work fine, but if you try to change the printer properties they
get reset as soon as you change them.  An example is network MFPs that are set to B/W by default.  The customer changes to color on the printer properties, but word and excel seem to ignore those settings.  Acutally worse than ignore they reset
them to the default properties for the printer.  If you click on the properites, change them, click ok - then before printing I click on the properties again and they have already been reset.  This is a big issue for several customers - they need
to access the properties to set to color, change other settings, or use shortcut items for specific types of document printing.
Also, the problem didn't exist until they installed office 2010.  They can print successfully from any other application with the ability to change any settings needed.
    David

    Hello all,
I think I may have a solution for your problem. The actual problem exists in office 2003 and was an easy fix but I have been ratting my brains since I started doing tech support for MFD finding in office 2010, I would see the problem know the solution but
not be able to find the properties in office seeing they move them. A client would click on print select tray 2 or options and office would seem to ignore it. My work around was to get them to print to PDF then print there item selecting the print options
they wanted through print driver properties.
In 2003 office you click File ---> Page Setup ----> then click the paper tab page and depending on your printer you will get options like
    Default Print settings
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
and a paper drop down box A4 A3 etc. This was a real problem as if it was on A4 and they where trying to print a3 selecting it through the print driver the MFD would ask for A4 paper instead of A3.
Ok so in 2007 2010 office this is where the options are causing the problem I only found it on thursday and as I dont have 2010 office at home I will have to double check these menu options when I am at another client but I should get it close enough for
    you to find.
Click OFFICE icon in office word go to print, there is a rectagular box I believe it was called WORD OPTIONS or Office Options. next there is a lot of tab options, Advance is the one you want. Click on ADVANCE. Scroll right down and you will see
    print and copy options.
Here you will see you overiding options
and it will be based on the print driver you have selected
Default Printer Options (Usually the one it is on) but I believe auto is what you want.
    Auto
    Tray 1
    Tray 2 etc
Also there is a few check box options I have not played with yet but one that caught my eye that was checked was along the lines of Shrink all print to A4 I would un check this.
So this is where you problem should be solved. Please keep in mind they I only just found this out so I do need to play around with the options a little more to understand there full affect but I think what I said is pretty accurate. I will re post and edit
    if I find other wise.
Something else to note. I believe having the Default Printer Options selected is the main problem. I believe this means if you are in office and you click print ---> print properties and select all the options you want it does not mean a damm,
because these word options under page setup(2003) and Advanced (2010) actually grabs the print drivers default setting i.e start ----> Control panel ----> printers and device then what ever options are set there will overide all other options you set
in the print driver from word.
I have only played with this on 2010 in word, did not check if the options are there for excel and access but I guessing its standard. Have fun let me know how you go.
