No AHCI in BIOS in Satellite Pro A200

I just installed an ssd and would like to change the bios utility to ahci however there isnt an area that i am able to do this. the Computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 (psfa1a-003002).
Do I need to update the BIOS? Where do I get the update and how do I update it?

As far as I know BIOS update doesn't offer some additional options. Please check BIOS settings again. In advanced BIOS options there should be SATA option and there you can change between compatibility and AHCI mode.
I have it on my P200. It is almost identical machine but 17 and your is 15 model.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - question about BIOS update

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E) with Windows Vista and XP that were installed recently.
In Toshiba's driver page (BIOS update) says:
"This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!!"
    1) Should I update my BIOS(1.4) or is it going to be a problem for my XP windows?
    2) Has anyone try it?
    3) Is there documentation about the BIOS updates (bug fixes, etc)?

    Hi madmak
I think the description should be clear if the BIOS description says that the BIOS is only compatible for notebooks with Windows Vista then you cannot use it with Windows XP.
I think nobody should check if an Vista BIOS would be run on the XP notebook because mostly a wrong BIOS can damage the motherboards ROM on in your case some notebook features will not run correctly.
I didnt find also any reports about any fixed BIOS bugs it seems something like that was not published on Toshiba European site.
best regads and happy new year ;)

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Screen goes black after BIOS screen

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have quite a big problem. So any help is welcome and appreciated.
My Satellite Pro A200 goes black after the BIOS screen and a black screen with a blinking cursor. Also just before the screen goes black a bleep can be heard which shows windows is booting.
I can access the toshiba set-up screen but not the safety mode set-up.
    Kind Regards

    Hello
You wrote that you can access the BIOS but have you checked if the HDD is recognized properly? Maybe the computer cannot boot because HDD isnt recognized so you should check this.
If the HDD is recognized I would try a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. It seems that Windows isnt able to start and if you reinstall the whole system it should help to get rid of this. Just go in boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device.
    Check this!!!

  • Satellite Pro A200-1MN correct sata contoller needed for xp install

    hi
i thought i had the correct file for my xp install on my floppy but the windows install still can't see my hard drive
i don't have the recovery media hence this problem
    Satellite Pro A200-1MN
    PSAE4E-01R00WEN
i have it as 82801 sata ahci controller and ich8m storage controller 2850
it doesn't seem to like them though, can anyone help?

Usually this option you can find in advanced BIOS options and you can choose between AHCI and compatibility. Option is SATA controller mode.
Anyway, it is better to install OS with AHCI mode and have full HDD performance.
Download storage manager and there you will find folder called F6flpy.
There you will find ICH8M_32bit folder with WXP sata driver.
When you start WXP installation use F6 button to load SATA driver. After doing this HDD will be recognized properly and you will be able to continue WXP installation.

  • Satellite Pro A200: XP + Vista installed/dual boot possible?

    Hi,
I am not sure if I am right here at XP OS but I post it as it is OS related.
My Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7) runs smoothly with XP but I want to create a sandbox (partition) for/with Vista.
Basically I know that it is possible to run XP and Vista on one system. *But*, Satellite Pro A200 notebooks are shipped with a BIOS for XP and one for Vista and with information that you have to install the correct one. For me this means that you have to install BIOS for XP when running XP and BIOS for Vista when running Vista.
    Question:
Is it possible to install Vista on a Satellite Pro A200 with XP as main OS and having so XP BIOS installed?
Boot loader would be Acronis OSS as this loader already manage my two XP partitions.
    Many thanks for any information!
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    Hi
In my opinion there are no serious reasons why you shouldnt be able to use Xp and Vista on your Satellite Pro A200.
Ok there are different BIOS for Vista 64bit, 32bit and Win XP but your Vista should run also using the BIOS for Win XP.
Ive got other Satellite notebook series and Im able to use XP and Vista at the same time. I mean Ive got a choice to boot either the XP or Vista ;) and Im still using the old BIOS version.
Ok some functions are not available like FN keys but this is not very important for me.
Well, to cut this story I think you can use Vista and XP without changing the BIOS ;)

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Fn keys does not work with Windows Vista

    Hello,
I own a Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7E and a retail license for Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (with SP1) installed on it.
Before installing Vista, I upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version available on the Toshiba site ([http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/vista_drivers.jsp?service=IT]).
BIOS version is now 2.20-WIN32 contained in this file: [http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20080404121735.zip]
After the successful installation of the operating system, I installed the "Value Added Package" ([http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/vap-20080109135106.zip]) which contains the "Flash Cards Utility". In my understanding, the installation of the "Value Added Package" should enable the Fn keys usage.
This doesn't seem to be true or not completely true.
    Here is what happens.
    - Before the installation of the "Value Added Package" all the Fn keys didn't work.
    - After the installation of the "Value Added Package", if the TCrdMain.exe process is running, all the Fn keys don't work.
    - If I remove the TCrdMain.exe from the startup and I reboot the PC, only some Fn keys work (Fn+ESC, Fn+F1).
There is no way (or I didn't find a way) to make all the Fn keys working.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Thanx in advance,
    mme000

I do not know for sure but it can be because of SP1. I have installed Vista Ultimate on A200 and all listed stuff (drivers, tools and utilities) from Toshiba support page.
Does your installations Vista DVD contains SP1 or you have installed it on your own? If you install Vista Ultimate (without SP1) and all stuff from Toshiba support site following Installations Instructions order.

  • "Common module" missing for XP on Satellite Pro A200

    Hello everyone,
I received my Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7) laptop with a Vista OS.
I have made a fresh & clean XP installation on it using the Toshiba's installation instructions document.
Everything is working fine except my Fn+F6 Fn+F7 Fn+F8 hotkeys for Wireless and screen brightness.
I have made a few search over the internet and I found that page :
Looks like that I need to setup "common module" installer in order to make work those hotkeys.
But the problem is that the "common module" is not available on the driver page for XP ....
If I change the OS type to Vista there is "Value Added Package" available but it's not compatible on XP ...
I tried to download and setup a "common module" for Sat Pro A120 model but i got an "TVALZ" error during the installation ....
Did Toshiba support forget to put online a "common module" installer for XP for Sat Pro A200 ??
    How can I make work my Fn+F6 Fn+F7 Fn+F8 hotkeys ?
Any help will be really appreciated !
    Thanks,
    Can

    Hello darkmatterman,
First of all thanks for you reply and for your tips about the Bios version (Vista vs XP).
The first day I received my laptop on Vista OS, I already made a Bios update "the Vista compatible one". So my Bios is v1.70 actually.
I will try monday morning to update the latest XP compatible Bios version which is v5.20...
Do you know if it's possible to apply the latest XP bios upgrade on a bios which was already been upgraded with a Vista compatible version ?
And if the XP comptabile Bios upgrade works, do you think that I will need to setup my fresh XP again (with all Toshiba drivers & utils setup order...) ?
    Regards,
    Can

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Won't boot with 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I've installed 2 x 2GB, but it seems it doesn't work. The funny thing is that when running just one memory strip (so 2GB) it works, when running both it doesn't work and it freezes. These are the Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 - 6400s - 666 - 12 - E3
Ive' installed the latest BIOS update (64bit v2.60) for the Satellite Pro A200 and I am running Windows 7 64bit

    Hi caribman
What Satellite Pro A200 you have exactly?
I ask this because some A200 models were equipped with Intel 943GML chipset and these models support 2GB only!!!

  • Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4): DVD drive permanently blinking

    Hello,
I have been using a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4) laptop for some time now without any major issues.
My dvd drive (tsst crop TS-L632H) is no longer working for a few days now... More precisely, its LED is permanently orange blinking. Drivers are up to date. The eject button doesn't work either. No disc is inserted. The drive seems fine in the Windows device manager...
If opened manually and if a disc is inserted in the drive, I can't see any data. Can't boot on the disc either.
I'm running under Vista 32bit SP1 with the latest bios available on the toshiba website (2.40).
Since I need to fix the frequently reported "black screen" issue before login prompt, using the windows installation disc
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks !

    Hi
According to you page you are not able to boot from any CD or DVD, not even from the Toshiba Recovery CD.
    Am I right?
To be honest, Ive no idea why such issue happened but in my opinion its related to the hardware malfunction and only the replacement could helps
I dont know how old you notebook is but maybe the warranty is valid and you could replace it for free
    What do you think?

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Supervisor Password Utility Setup fails

    Hello,
I own a Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7E and a retail license for Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (with SP1) installed on it.
Before installing Vista, I upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version available on the Toshiba site (http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/vista_drivers.jsp?service=IT).
    BIOS version is now 2.20-WIN32
After the successful installation of the operating system, I started installing the various drivers and utilities downloading them from the Toshiba site.
When I try to install the "Supervisor Password Utility" the setup fails showing a message box which says "The serial number is invalid".
Same problem with another setup: "Flash Cards Support Utility"
Does anybody know how to solve this problem and which serial number is invalid?
    Thanx in advance,
    mme000

    Hi,
You are having the same trouble as other people on these forums.
If you want to fix it yourself, you would need to look at the disk image on the disk that came with your toshiba, figure out which version of the application was included on that, you might be able to find that version on the website for a different model and different country (for instance, on the canadian website, for a totally different computer than my UK computer, i found a version of the flashcards support utility that works with mine.) But i don't think its possible to see what's on the restore disk without instaling it, i.e. wiping everything off your harddrive in the process.
It really is extremely disappointing and frustrating. If anyone knows a way to communicate directly with toshiba about this problem without having to pay some sort of support fee, I would be very interested to hear about it. It seems noone from toshiba actually reads anything from these forum. It seems like a real wasted resource to me....

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Shows only 3GB instead 4GB RAM

    Hi,
2 years ago I got a Satellite Pro A200 as a business notebook and it runs with XP SP2, later with SP3. With 2 GB it shows 2 GB of memory in Windows - and I know it has a Radeon 7500 with 256MB of individual graphic memory, and it has no shared memory.
I upgraded it to 4 GB, but Windows shows exactly 3 GB. BIOS shows 4 GB and the ATI system monitor shows 4 GB. I know that 4 GB is not possible in XP 32 bit, only on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit or Vista - but on desktop systems I have seen values between 3.3 and 3.7 GB.
So where is the memory? It looks like a bug - the memory chips have both 2 GB I have verified this. Because it is a company notebook I can't just upgrade to XP 64 bit :-(
In the BIOS are no options - first I thought it's the graphic card, but mine has independant graphics with own memory so the computer comes up with 2048 MB or 4096 after the upgrade.
Shared memory would show about 1900 MB of RAM to the OS like my private EEEpc.

First of all 32bit OS (no matter if its XP, Win 2003 R2, Vista or Win 7) will not recognize 4GB RAM but only 3.2GB (and not 3.7GB)
I have no idea where you looked for available RAM but you should run DXDIAG in RUN.
Then you should get some details and also the available RAM.
Secondly the graphic card supports Local cache (256MB) and HyperMemory.
HyperMemory of the graphic card depends on the available main RAM memory.
For example the unit supports 1024MB RAM (1GB) then the hyper memory would be 256MB this part of RAM would be shared with graphic card!
This is the reason why the only 3GB are shown...

  • Satellite Pro A200-16N: Can I use Recovery CD after upgrade to Vista

    Hii!
Im thinking of upgrading to windows vista on my Satellite Pro A200-16N, and i've ran the windows vista upgrade checker from the microsoft website and it says my system will support windows vista so im ok on that.
The problem is, if my laptop were to break or something like that at some point, will my recovery CD's that was supplied from toshiba still work on the laptop with windows vista?
Will they return the laptop to windows xp or since my laptop has a different operating system will they not work?
    Also...
    Whats the deal with BIOS?:S
    I dont understand!
If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
As i have to download the new drivers before upgrading yes?
    Thanks!

Of course the Recovery CD will work.
The Recovery CD will set always the notebook back to the factory settings. This means that the whole HDD will be formatted and the Toshiba image will be installed.
    > Whats the deal with BIOS? I dont understand!
    > If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
In my knowledge this notebook was already delivered with Vista therefore you dont need to update the BIOS if you want to install Vista again.
Some A200 Satellite series needs a BIOS update if you want to use the XP.
In such case its advisable to update the BIOS to XP version firstly and then to install X OS.
    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Wifi not responding after loading of Win XP

Hi there, i`m new here and I apologies if this has been covered,i have searched the forum but came up with nothing.
    I have a:
    Satellite pro a200
    Windows XP.
My laptop had xp professional installed and the onboard wifi was working.
I had issues with the laptop overall but the wifi worked. I formatted it last night, installed a new copy of xp home and now the wifi doesnt appear to be recognised. The light is on ,on the switch but i cant seem to get the laptop to recognise its there.
I havent given you much I know but I hope I can get it sorted.

    Thanks, Kirky.

    Hello, thanks for the advice.
I have flashed the bios and also installed the latest driver. Now I can see my home network but the notebook now wants a WEP Key to continue. In the last few weeks i have connected 2 xboxs and 2 mobile phones to this network without any issues. Now I want to connect a notebook it is asking for this key and I don`t know what it is, or where to locate it.
    Thanks, Kirky.

  • Some devices are not installed correctly on Satellite Pro A200

I have Satellite Pro A200 psae7e. and I have also a problem with PCI memory controller, Modem device on high definition audio bus, mass storage controller because they're marked yellow in device manager.
My lap works fine... sata works fine, graphic controller & etc. Everything in natural order. but I don't want yellow icons in device manager.
How to resolve this problem. I've installed all drivers, but there's still that yellow icons appearing.
And could someone tell's me what is PCI memory controller? Is that shared memory?

The PCI memory controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip
Its a new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesnt support the cache function.
The Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller component supports the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) AC adapter device objects that the operating system uses to manage power resources.
Seems you BIOS does not support this!
Update the BIOS to the XP version!

  • Satellite Pro A200: How to reboot from hibernation

    I must be an idiot.
I set on/off button of new Satellite Pro A200 to activate hibernation.
Then set BIOS password. Despite password correctly entered, it will not start windows.
Nor can I shut down laptop by holding down the on/off button to force reboot.
    So
    1) how do I reboot short of waiting till the batterys run flat...... And
    2) when and if I do manage a reboot, which key (s) should I hold down to enter BIOS.
    Many thanks for help.

    > Despite password correctly entered, it will not start windows.
    >Nor can I shut down laptop by holding down the on/off button to force reboot
Do you have a Phoenix BIOS? If yes then you have to press the F2 button immediately after notebook starting to access the BIOS. But you will be not able to access the BIOS if the password is not right and cannot be verified!
The unknown BIOS password can be deleted only by an ASP in you country. There is a special procedure which is only known to the Toshiba authorized service technicians.
Therefore follow the recommendation and contact the guys!
PS: The notebook should shut down when you press the power button for about 4-5sec.
Otherwise disconnect the AC and remove the battery to disable the computer!
