No AirDrop in Finder?

I just finished installing Lion, and i have no AirDrop in Finder. Also nothing in Finder's preferences. I have a Mid 2009 MacBook Air. I saw nothing about this on the internet/Apple's page.
Any sugestions?

  • Why don't I have airdrop in finder

    Can anyone tell me :-
    1) why dont I have airdrop in finder when I have 2 lion macs ?
    2) why my delete button on finder tool bar is replaced with a ? insted of the red delete icon
    Regards
    Ump..

    1. In addition to wireless, Air Drop is dependant on your Mac model.  If your Macs are slightly dated, chances are Air Drop is not supported.  Apple, to the best of my knowledge, has yet to publish a list of supported machines.
    2. The red delete button has been replaced.  Go to View/Customize Toolbar.  Remove the question mark and try adding the 'new' delete button (now a trash can icon)

  • No Airdrop in Finder 10.8.5

I've used Macs for years and never had much success with Airdrop, it never seems to work for some reason.
Recently I tried to share to an iMac running 10.8.5, after searching the internet and troubleshooting for 30 minutes or so **why didnt I just email the file to myself like always!?! :-) ** I cannot find any answer. Every help site says "Open finder" "click Airdrop" etc... but when I open Finder, no Airdrop option is listed.
    Thanks.

Oh, so to use Airdrop you do not just need an OS 10.7+ you need a newer Mac also? Wonder why that is? It isnt a hardware issue is it?
    Weird....
    Thanks though!

  • Airdrop not finding other device

I recently bought an ipad, decided to choose apple for the synergy between my macbook & the pad. I can't get airdrop to work however.
on my macbook pro the pad will not show in the airdrop finder, and neither the other way around. both are in the same wifi, bluetooth on (and paired).
specs: macbook pro 17inch early 2011 osx 10.10.1
    ipad air 2 ios 8.1.2
I am using filevault2 on mbp, can this interfere with the process? All the guides seem to only apply to people with no problems ("in finder you will see other devices")... well, what if you don't?

well crap . thanks still. at least I won't need to waste any more time solving the problem

  • Unable to find airdrop, searched finder and still no luck.  Any suggestions?

We recently upgraded all the computers in the house with lion.  My Husband has a Macbook Pro and I have a Macbook.  I attempted to send him a file but I am unable to locate airdrop.  My husband verified he had it on his Macbook Pro and was unable to find my computer in his Airdrop.  I search via Finder, launchpad, and applications.  Has this happened to anyone else and any suggestion on how I might be able to find it?
    Thanks

AirDrop is supported on the following Macs:
    MacBookPro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

  • Airdrop between mac book pro and iPhone 5c

How do I airdrop between a macbook pro and iphone 5c?

Is this still the case, or has the latest update for IOS and OS X (announced on WWDC in 2 June 2014) enabled file sharing between Iphone and Mac via Airdrop?
When I open Airdrop in Finder on my Macbook pro (2013), it keeps searching for devices, but does not recognise my iphone 5s (on which wifi, bluetooth and airdrop are on). Any way to fix this?
    Thanks!

  • Any idea why airdrop dialog is wrong

I can't get airdrop to work between macbook air 10.10.3 and iPhone 6 8.2ish
iPhone works with other iOS devices.
macbook air can't recognize ANY iOS devices that iPhone is seeing.
Furthermore -   pop open your airdrop on a mac - are there two blue links you can click?
mine is missing them - it says "airdrop lets you share instantly with people nearby. To share with someone using a Mac, ask them to go to Airdrop in Finder."
This dialog is different from recent pics I've seen online on the subject - with two options to click. Mine has no options. There is no option to pick "everyone, contacts, etc.."
blue tooth and wifi are working - i can even pair iPhone to MBA!
    any clues what to try?

  • Airdrop or what else?

I have an iphone 6 which says it has Airdrop. I have a brand new iMac (as of yesterday) that also has airdrop in finder. On the iMac I clicked on Airdrop in Finder and it searched for someone to drop with and it isn't finding my phone. I just read that it only works for mac to mac or phone to phone. ARE you kidding me?? No offense Apple but that seems insane, am I just not techy enough and it's impossible to make it work that way?
Here is what I want to know... I had a bunch of photo's texted to me on my phone, how do I get them easily and simply to my imac? I really don't want to mail individual photo's (20 of them and large) to myself.
    Thanks for any help.
    Susan

You have to wait until the next version of OS X (Yosemite) is available, that will give  you the ability to use Air Drop across IOS and OS X. You can read up on Yosemite on Apple's website at:
    https://www.apple.com/osx/preview/
Regarding the photos and how to share them across  platforms, you can use that now using iCloud,  you just need to set it  up on both devices. Apple explains how to in iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud

  • Late 2009 iMac will not AirDrop with iPhone 6 iOS 8.1

I have an iPhone6 running iOS8.1 and an iMac 21.5 inch, Late 2009 running Yosemite. I cannot get either device to recognize the other when using AirDrop. How can I get AirDrop to work together with these devices? I have read many articles already that have not helped:
Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices
Using AirDrop with OS X Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks
Nothing has been able to help. My AirDrop in Finder does not allow me any options such as "Allow me to be discovered by: ..." and "Don't see who you are looking for?"
    Any help will be appreciated!

Your Mac needs to be 2012 or later to work with an ios device.

  • Airdrop doesn't work

    Hi,
I cant seem to airdrop files from my macbook pro, when clicking on airdrop in finder, it doesnt seem to find my ipad mini or iphone 5, nothing is displayed.
the ipad and iphone can see each other, but not the mac.
ive tried adding the ipad to one wireless network, and the mac to the other (as i had read that having them on the same SSID didnt work) - but thats made no difference.
so i have to enable airdrop on the mac?

Right now, Airdrop works fine when your transferring data between, say, a Macbook Pro, iMac, and MacBook Air. Or if you want to Airdrop between mobile gear, like the iPad, iPad Mini, and iPod Touch.
For some reason, it isn't possible to Airdrop between, say, an iPad and MacBook Pro. To remedy this, I use DropBox for my transfers, and it works almost as easily.
    Post with your results!

  • Airdrop not working between iMac mid 2011 and MBA mid 2013

    Hi everyone,
This week I bought a MBA 2013 for my girfriend and myself, they see eachother when attempting to use Airdrop, flawlessly transfering files. I have an iMac from mid 2011 which will not see either MacBook AIr over Airdrop. It is quite annoying to say the least. I have read around the posts here and there seems to be little to no support for this problem, which seems to afflict quite a few people.
They are all on the same network, all have file sharing enabled in system pref. and all of them clearly support Airdrop. I have deleted and re entered my Apple ID info to no avail.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem? It seems like there are enough people to warrant intervention on Apple's part.
Looking forward to any and all replies, cheers Pluckaduck

From one of the Macs looking for the iMac, start AirDrop in Finder and get to the following display:
Presumably you do not see the iMac, so click the "Don't see who you're looking for" link.  That will display this:
Press "Search for an Older Mac" and you'll be set!

  • Can i drag files from one computer to another

can i drag files from one computer to another

You can, if you want to transfer files between macs I advies to use AirDrop(wi-fi needs to be enabled). Use shift+command+R, this will take you to your AirDrop in finder. Do this on both computers and you should see the user of the mac where you want to transfer files to.
If the seconds computer is a Windows, you can alway use a USB Drive, External Drive, through Dropbox(install dropbox on both computers and download the files that you need on the second computer) and if the file is small even mail.

  • Failed to attach workflow to "Downloads" as a folder action

    Hi, everyone
I am trying to move the files and folders I get via AirDrop to a folder named AirDrop with automator. I use the following workflow
Folder Action receives files and folders added to Downloads
         Get Specific Finder Items (Downloads)
Get Folder Contents (Un-tick Repeat for Subfolder found)
Filter Finder Item ( All of following are true : Name is not AirDrop )
Move Finder Item ( To AirDrop : tick Replace existing files)
It works perfectly fine when I tries to run it step by step or using Run button. But it doesn't work when I add a file or folder to the Downloads folder. So, I tried to remove the .workflow file from the Folder Actions and re-install it again. When I do that, this
    occurred.
Please help me. Thanks in advance

  • How to share files in icloud

Is it possible to share files (kenote, numbers, etc...) through iCloud with other people....? How?

You can't share that kind of files through iCloud because iCloud is a service that only you can access to, unless you give your account information to the person you want to share the files with.
There are many ways to share a file. You can always e-mail your file to the other person or if the other person has a Mac, you can use AirDrop.
You can find AirDrop on Finder. To use AirDrop you just have to drag the file you want to share into the other Mac user icon and that's it!
    Hope it helped.
