No airplay and no home sharing in IOS5

I do not get this,  after upgrading to IOS5 and I no longer get Airplay on my iPad, nor Home Sharing on Apple tv2. I have rebooted ATV2 and iPad, no luck. They are all on the same network, iMac/iPad are wireless and ATV2 are wired. Same subnet and same router.
Anyone with any suggestion (iI have also tried to turn off/on Airplay on ATV2)
And, yes, the same stuff worked before I upgraded to IOS 5, but then all were wireless, I did put ATV2 back on wireless, but with the same result.

Solution found !
Saw another thread where someone booted the router, tried the same and voila !
Airplay in IOS 5 is very, vey nice, got to download real racing 2 hd now if you will excuse me...:-)

  • TS2972 enable my tv entertainment provider on my home network - then updated "a newer" modem and now home sharing just stopped home sharing

Only 2 changes to my home network set up: #1 - I installed a "new model modem" recommended by my ISP provided, and #2 I had my tv entertainment provider install their modem to the TV receiver box for accessing my home network and now home sharing will not home share.
I original had enabled, and all devices are still set up for home share - that's laptops, iphones, ipods, and ipads.
Any suggestions?  I understand these modem most have ports 123, 3689, and 5353 opened for itunes and the home sharing.
Now I am stumped on how to verify these settings.
Is it possible for me to verify these ports on these modems; how?  Or is it just wiser to contact these providers and have their technicans investigate this issue?  OR is it possible I am missing an even easier route to cure this ailment I have created unintentionally in my quest for connectivity between all things electronically capable and on the same secure network?
Oh, using PC w/WDW7 if this helps, and one other annoying detail, which confuses this entire issue of mine, the Home Share, pops on for a few minutes, and then disappears.  So yes, I am confused, it is there, and then it is not!.

Scan the Support Community sites. Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with Apple TV1,2and 3; with different brands of router including Airport Extreme; from current and past versions of iTunes; after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days; losing connection with Home Sharing and loosing Airplay; whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance; after trying innumerable posted 'fixes'; after exchanging for a new Apple TV.
Readers, please don't post a fix until you check it works for atleast a week.

    Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

  • Changed routers and now home sharing libraries are not found.

I have recently changed routers in my home and now my home sharing library is not found . I have checked IP address I have connection and when home sharing is turned on the nextwork name pops up on the screen. however none of my movies or libraries are there and it times out. All worked fine before I changed the router and the only reason I changed was due to the old router being 15 years old and I would loose connection about every 15 to 30 min when streaming. please help Apple support says it the router , router support says its apple, router is NETGEAR N60 Duel Band

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It may be your router settings, but as you were having some issues prior to changing your router, it may well be interference, start by trying a different wifi channel.

  • Home sharing stops working with Apple TV after about one hour.. Apple TV drops my MAC and says Home Sharing not available.

Hey there, Ihave the latest firmware update on my Apple TV 2. I have Lion with latest updates installed.
I have home sharing turned on in iTunes 10 no issues their
Network is set up as such.. Apple TV hardwired with Ethernet Cable, MAC where iTunes resides is WiFi on a dual band wireless N network. No dropped connections, network showing in perfect connected status.. All other home networking functions working perfectly. No wireless or ethernet disruptions.
Apple TV works perfect for about one hour then all of a sudden stops and says home sharing is turned off.. but it's not. Double checked iTunes on the MAC, home sharing still set up no issues. I restart iTunes.. does not help, reboot MAC does not help. Reset Apple TV doesn't help.
About an hour later, home sharing shows up in Apple TV again..
Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts as to why Home Sharing on the Apple TV stops by itself when no changes are occuring?

  • On my apple tv it says "to access iTunes library, turn on home sharing. I've done this and my home sharing is turned on my computer, but there are no computers being listed under the computer option on my apple tv? How do I connect them?

Does anyone know how to get homesharing working right? I have it on my computer and it shows that it is sharing, but on my apple tv it says that it is not working when I look under the computer tabs...?

You mention doing all of the above, what would that be exactly?
The article linked above is for airplay, have you checked home sharing tips?

  • Airplay vs. Home Sharing, is there a technical difference???

I'm attempting to become an audiophile, or at least I can say I really enjoy listening to music. As such, all of my CD's are ripped via Apple lossless into iTunes, and then streamed to my ATV2 before the optical out sends the digital signal to my stereo.
The ATV2 offers me (at least) two methods of listening to my music:
    1) Using homesharing - my ATV2 picks up the music when I select "Computers" and choose my homeshared iTunes library, or
    2) Using Airtunes - directly from my iMac and select my ATV2 as the destination source.
Interestingly enough, I hear a real difference between the two methods, as method #2 will create a significant distortion in many songs, but method #1 will not, regardless the music format (lossless, 128kbps, 256kbps, etc).
Why would this be? Is there a technical difference between method #1 and #2 above between what iTunes sends and ATV2 receives/decodes?
Help, inquiring minds want to know!
    Thanks.

If you lower the playback volume control in iTunes on your iMac when it is sending music via AirTunes to your ATV, can you eliminate the distortion?
It may be that the too-high output volume from the iMac is causing "clipping" somewhere in the signal delivery chain because there is too little "headroom" for the digital audio's loudest passages to be rendered properly.
If so, turning down the volume control in iTunes might fix it.
Technically, if you stream the music using Home Sharing, the ATV is receiving and internally decoding the original audio file. Using AirPlay, the file is decoded by iTunes on your iMac, not on the ATV, and a digital audio output signal is generated in iTunes and sent to the ATV. If not enough headroom is present when that happens, the output signal may be clipped in loud passages. This may happen either at the point of being generated by iTunes or at some later point in the signal path.
You may want to try using iVolume
    http://www.mani.de/ivolume/
to make sure all your music files play at the same desirable level. This is achieved in part by turning on Sound Check in iTunes (and also on the ATV) after using iVolume on all your music tracks. Before you use iVolume to adjust the volume of your music tracks, you might want to set iVolume's Master Volume level fairly low, so as to give you undistorted AirTunes play even with the iTunes volume slider set to its maximum position.

  • I purchased a new mac and have home sharing turned on my PC and when I pull up Itunes I can see the library but when I click on it the library does not come up to transfer any of movies or music? Can anyone give me some insight?

I purchased a new mac and I am unable to connect to the home share on it. In the itunes pane the name is there but it will not show library when I click on it. I am trying to sync my ipad on the new machine and use some of the items off my other pc. I am using the same user name on both computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    "Error -9808"
This alert is often caused by a perceived security issue due to higher than expected security settings.
Check your computer's date, time, and time zone. If they are not correct, correct them.
If the issue persists, or the changes made to Internet Options revert after restarting your PC, then the issue is likely caused by out of date or incorrectly configured security software.  Follow the steps in iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve the issue.

  • HDMC restrictions won't let me watch a movie shared on my friend's iTunes computer, even though we are on the same network, and have home-sharing on.

Basically, my friend turned on home-sharing, I can see his movies, but when I try to watch one on my computer through iTunes, I get an HDMC restriction of some kind, and I am repeatedly ask to sign into my iTunes account to authorize my computer (which is already authorized). It isn't making any sense to me.
    (I am using OS X 10.8.4).

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Apple TV 1 and 2 Home Sharing with eachother?

I have an original 160GB ATV and was wondering if I could share the media on it with a ATV2 in a different room? Or it seems ill need all my media on my laptop and it will have to be powered on to get Home Sharing to work??
I would love to buy another toy

    Thanks bt22,
I was about to post the same question but this definitely answers it. I'm planning to purchase a ATV Gen 1 for my media room and ATV Gen 2 for my son's room. I was hoping ATV Gen 1 had the ability to stream to ATV Gen 2 so my son could watch children's shows and movies in the comfort of his own room. Guess not!

  • I have to turn off and on Home Sharing for things to work, why?

I have three AT2 (latest firmware) in the house, all on wifi through an airport extreme. I have a windows 7 box in the basement hardwired to the airport extreme as the server. Everything is fine until i either restart the windows 7 box or restart itunes. When ever i have to do either, i have to goto the at2 and go into home sharing setting and turn it off and then back on for my library to come up. It works almost everytime but its a little annoying considering it has to be done on all three at2. I dont have a problem with it as much as my kids who are too young to firgure it out. But once i do turn it off and then back on, everything is fine until the next time i either restart the windows 7 box or restart itunes. Any ideas?
