"No AirPort Card Installed" error message
Please help--
I have a PowerBook G4 12", recently refurbished, running Mac OX X 10.5.8, 1.33 GHz, PowerPC G3, 1.25 GB memory.
It works great. But this evening, my daughter dropped it onto a hardwood floor. At first, I thought everything was fine.
But now, I get a message, "No AirPort Card Installed" message when I try to turn AirPort on.
I'm typing on it now, so I'm able to go online using an ethernet cable, but I need AirPort connectivity.
I've been religious about backing up on Time Capsule. Would it help to go into my Time Capsule to bring back an old AirPort setting? Should I remove, then reinstall the old AirPort card? Or will I have to buy a new AirPort card? And do they still sell those for Macs this old?
Any info you have would be helpful, thanks.
Yes, you should remove and reseat the Airport Extreme card. It may just have been jostled in its slot and not be making good contact now.

Early today, my Macbook Air froze and I had to restart it by holding down the start key. Since the, I've been getting a "no airport card installed error messge". I've tried resetting the PRAM but it did not fix the problem. I've also tried running the hardware check through a powerdrive but I get a message saying hardware check cannot be run on this machine. Any suggestions about what to try next?
Yes, you should remove and reseat the Airport Extreme card. It may just have been jostled in its slot and not be making good contact now.

No Airport card installed error

I've just bought a Macbook Aluminum 13inch. Everything's ok, but suddenly, when I click to wireless icon on the menu, it say: "No Airport card installed".
I did the following:
+ In System profiler --> Airport card: No information found
+ Hardware test: No problem
+ Update software
+ Reinstall Mac OS
+ Remove battery, hold Power button for 10s
+ Press Option + command + P + R
But still "No Airport card installed".
It happened when I use 10.5.5. I update to 10.5.6, and then 10.5.7, there's no use.
I'm in Vietnam, there's no trustable Apple care here. Please help me.

Thank you. I brought my Mac to the provider. They said they gave a new one for my Mac. It run now. But I think that they only update firmware because my card serial is still the same. Any way, it run now. Thank you for your help.
I don't believe that the new (unibody) MacBooks have any separate AirPort card that can be individually replaced. The photos I've seen of disassembly don't seem to show any separate wireless card. It's just a Broadcom BCM4322 which is more than likely permanently soldered to the main board. -

I am getting a "No AirPort card installed" problem on a brand new macbook pro 13 running OS X 10.6.1. First, I experienced applications freezing randomly, until my MBP froze completely on me and had to reset it. This issue became recurrent, and now there is this network card problem. Rebooting does nothing to get AirPort to work again. I will truly appreciate any insights on how to address the latter issue. I am hoping it is simply a software problem.

Latest Apple Software Update causes 'No Airport card installed' error
Hi,
I accepted the Software Update released 05Apr08 and rebooted. Following the reboot my MacBook Air now says 'no airport card installed' and I can't get the MacBook to 're-recognize' the card.
I have used the airport card to access many different wireless networks prior to this update with no issues.
All advice accepted gratefully.

Sometime on Thursday, however, after waking from sleep the airport card reported it is off, and no amount of attempting to turn it on again would successfully do so. After a restart, the computer reported no Airport card is installed at all. I had to shut down the computer and turn it back on before the airport card was recognized (and work) again. This is now the case every time the computer is put to sleep. Occasionally after I do this, the network will be incredibly slow, something like dialup speeds.
First I tried resetting the PMU (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449), but that didn't work. Then I reset the PRAM and NVRAM (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238), which worked for only about a day. Now here I am again with the same issue, and an appointment for the genius bar at 5pm tonight. -
I am getting the error message "No AirPort card installed" Restarting my iMac desktop does not solve this (Apple help says I need to reset the SMC this way, but nothing changes). Can somebody advise, please?
Thanks for the flag J.K. - they contaced me and solved my problem. On this account (which I created just to ask this question), I log in with my email rather than my user name (mtalldud). On the account that I was having trouble with, they told me to use my user ID instead of my email to log in and it worked. This is a bit confusing and seems a bit inconsistent but at least I don't need this temporary account any more to get into this community and find answers!

"No AirPort card installed" message
I've been using my new 13" MBP for five weeks and the AirPort card has worked fine. Today, however after waking it from sleep the connection was gone and the AirPort icon was blank. I clicked on the menubar icon to "Turn AirPort on" but nothing happened.
After a quick permissions repair and a restart, the blank menubar icon reads "No AirPort card installed."
I have tried to reset the PRAM.
I have tried using my TechTool Pro eDrive to seek problems. None found. (The same AirPort card message was in eDrive mode as well)
AirPort software specs are available in System Profiler:
Software Versions:
Menu Extra: 6.2.2 (622.2)
configd plug-in: 6.2.5 (625.6)
System Profiler: 6.0.1 (601.1)
Network Preference: 6.2.2 (622.2)
AirPort Utility: 5.5.2 (552.11)
IO80211 Family: 3.2 (320.1)
Airport configuration is still available in my Network prefs: "Status: OFF" - although the AirPort ID is zeroed out.
Console report:

I suspect this is a hardware error and beyond the means of a software fix, unless somebody knows otherwise.So, as my laptop is still under warranty, I spoke to customer support, who were very helpful.
The problem was that there was not enough power getting to my AirPort card. The solution was to shut down and restart by pressing the power button and then Shift-Control-Option. It started up, and the AirPort card was up and running as normal.
We'll see if this is a recurring problem with the MBP, but, so far, so good. -
Get Message no airport card installed
I transported my Macbook and when I set it up again it does not connect to the Internet and i get the message "No airport card installed". Does this mean the airport card needs replacing?
It also does not read a USB stick.It may be a physical problem with the card or it's connections but try a System Management Controller reset first. Instructions are here .

I can't connect to my wi-fi network and internet. I'm getting the message "no airport card installed" on my 2010 13" MBP. There is a card installed. If the card has come unseated can I reseat it myself or do I have to take it to the apple store

"No AirPort Card Installed" Message after PMU reset
My battery memory time was getting shorter and shorter, even after a full re-charge (less than 50 minutes). Apple Care suggested that I do a PMU reset and then recalibrate the battery. After I did that my AirPort icon has disappeared, and when I try to use Airport Setup Assistant, I get a message that says "No AirPort Card installed."
Yikes - any thoughts about how to get my AirPort working again?You might want to post in the Powerbook G4 section, you might get more help there. Do you have built in airport or a card? If you have a card try pulling it out and re-seating it.

Brand new MBP 13 inch, "NO AirPort card installed" message

I just bought a new MBP 13 inch and cannot connect to my home wireless network. On the top bar and when I put the mouse cursor on the AirPort icon it says "No AirPort card installed". Shouldn't the card be pre-installed by Apple though? Currently I'm using an ethernet cable to connect to the internet which works fine.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.
If still no joy then you need to take it back to Apple for them to check it out. -
System extension cannot be used, now no AirPort Card Installed?!?!?!?!
I have had my MBP for some time now and the other day it went into a kernel panic and after having to go through all the processes to recover it including restoring from the time capsule so that it doesn't take over 10 mins to start up an error message came up saying;
"*System extension cannot be used*"
"the system extension '/System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrc m4311.kext' was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update"
Now i cant use my airport card at all, it says that there is no airport card installed and I have spent hours on the phone to apple, done the option + command + r + p thing and had to restore my whole system off my TC with the backup disks and all.
Plz plz plz plz help, i just want it back the way it was, this is so annoying
Message was edited by: TBlankI had the same problem. It happened to me after I updated to 10.5.6. I didn't notice the problem until I rebooted a few days later. I reinstalled the system from disk and then realized that even though it took almost an hour it didn't really install anything. So I deleted the whole /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext and reinstalled the system again. This time it worked

"No Airport card installed" after 10.5.8 update
Just upgraded the latest Leopard update 10.5.8 and, after restart, the Airport icon in my menu bar says "No Airport card installed".
I've been into System Prefs and tried to switch it on, but nothing. I've even been into the system profiler and, when I look under Network > Airport card it says no information found.
I'm on a two-week-old 13" MacBook Pro, which has been working fine with its Time Capsule since it was bought.

As with any installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Can't boot from install disk, and says no airport card installed, HELP!
I bought a new Macbook Pro a few months ago, which recently had to go in for repair to have the screen changed. It came back with the new screen fitted but they had done a terrible job at aligning the lid, so it went back again. Came back and all looked good, until i booted up and realized that where my wifi icon is at the top of the screen, it wasn't connected. When clicking it to bring down the drop down menu of available wifi spots, all it said was "No Airport Card Installed"....Thinking a repair of disk permissions might be worth trying, I tried to boot from my OSX install disk holding down C, however when holding down C all it does is go on a constant loop of restarting, not even reaching the Apple logo. If I don't hold down C then it simply boots to the desktop, so i'm unable to access disk utility correctly to run a repair.
Being pretty fedup with the whole situation, the laptop has now gone back for a 3rd time, as it never had these two issues before. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what might have caused this? And how a status of no airport card installed and a drive that wont boot a disk normally can be related?
I'll be getting it back on Tuesday, but i just wanted to know what the heck they might have done to have screwed things up.

I can't say for sure, but it sounds to me like they didn't reconnect the WiFi hardware when replacing the screen. To my knowledge, the Airport "hardware" (including the antenna) is located inside the screen hinge. When the screen was replaced (and the hinge not properly aligned) perhaps someone improperly connected the Airport hardware, or forgot to connect it entirely.
The reason the WiFi hardware is located in the hinge is because that is the only plastic area of the entire notebook. Radio signals do not travel well through aluminum, so some area of the computer has to be plastic to allow that signal to get through. The hinge is the only area where that's possible.
As for the reason why the machine wouldn't boot up from the disc, I have no idea. Here's hoping it does when it comes back. If I were you, I'd have a chat with Apple Customer Relations about the situation.
