No AirPort Hardwaaare Found

For several weeks we have been having the same issue as many here, with dropped connections on an Intel based iMac. I thought I had it fixed and got several days good use out of it but alas today it seems the AirPort card is either toast or the great demons of Intel based computers (i.e. PC's) ate my AirPort card because the system profiler no longer says I have one on this specific computer. What, if any, are the steps to test a card or have it replaced?

Time to contact Apple.

  • No Airport card found

Just took delivery of a new 17" intel imac. when i first set it up, i did so at my office with a direct connect to my office LAN. it worked fine, but i used the setup assistant to indicate that it was behind a lan.
when i got it home, i can't connect to my airport extreme that i got with the same order as the imac. i keep getting no airport card found. is this a result of running the setup assistant and not indicating at that time it was to be used with an airport?
i can connect with my ibook through the airport, which is used at my wife's office with an airport, so i know the airport itself is good.
in looking at the console.log file, it says (a lot) the message
    WirelessAirPortDeviceNameCopy(): no AirPort driver found
i don't get the airport fan on the top, and the airport admin utility can't find any local networks. the airport assistant says there is no card available.
i took it into compusa, and it connected just fine to their wireless network, which was not an airport. when i got it home again, it didn't work here.

now here is some really weird stuff. it works for this session, first time that i was able to connect with this machine. i've been searching all day using my ibook for documentation and a solution to this.
i did a shutdown, waited a bit, then did a cold boot rather than a restart. here's the console.log from a boot where it does not connect:

  • No Airport Disks Found but they are there!

I've a 500GB Lacie BigDisk Extreme connected via USB to my Airport Extreme (7.3.2) which is configured to allow file sharing. I've tried various combinations "WIth a disk password" and "With Airport Extreme password" and allowing guest read and write access, but I can't see it on any of our Macs and Airport Disk Utility sees the airport extreme but reports "No airport disks found".
I'm not sure if it's relevant, but connection sharing for the Airport Extreme is Off (Bridge Mode) because it's attached to an ADSL router - aside from that the setup is mostly default. DIrect connection with the disk to the Macs works fine, but defeats the object of having a shared external drive attached to the Extreme, and also as it's formatted using MacOS format I can't easily connect it to my PC's.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

    Hi All,
not sure if it helps but after spending a day looking at all posts on this subject and trying all manner of things I finally stumbled on to a solution that worked for me.
Basically I just 'Restored Default Settings' on my Airport Extreme and as soon as I had, my disk appeared! Having spent all day trying to get it to work, this was a major achievement and so simple I didn't think of it until last.
Nowhere within the discussions did I see a mention of this, so thought I should record it in case in can help someone else with this issue.

  • "No new airport network found" Uh oh!

So I snagged another airport express tonight at work since it was on refresh, and guess what. I can't get it to work!
I have been trying to connect it, and for whatever reason every time i try to do so, it says "there are no new airport networks found"
I just want to use the new express for WDS purposes, is there something i'm doing wrong???

    NVM -
sorry to clog the boards. figured it out myself just needed some TLC lol.

  • I am trying to setup airport express but my computer is showing no airport base found and the yellow light is blinking, I am trying to setup airport express but my computer is showing no airport base found and the yellow light is blinking

I plugged in my airport express to my modem and my phone and iPad are both showing no base found. The yellow light is blinking on the base

I didn't realize you had to create a network name from your computer first I thought it was all done from the airport icon. Once I setup the network from settings on my phone it worked great. Thank you for your fast reply! :)

  • Help!!  Suddenly..no airport hardware found!  Please help!

My 17" powerbook fell and now claims that no airport hardware can be found. I'm thinking the card dislodged or something but how do I re-secure it??
    Please help.

I don't think they do loaners, since I've never been able to get them to do that when I've asked, but you can sometimes ask for a replacement machine if the repairs have been enough that they can't solve the problem. Never wait for them to call you back. I've never gotten a call back. Hold onto a case number and if you need to reach them for any reason call them on the case number. We can't really discuss Apple policy here, though I can certainly tell you what I've experienced.
A loaner would technically be a machine you can borrow while yours is off to repairs. The machine you'd ask for a replacement would be yours to keep, and you'd never get back the original machine. Hence the good reason for a backup so you can restore to the replacement machine.

  • I was unable to work on the South West Airline, error message such as : no outbound airport was found... When I swiched to Internet Explorer, I was able to work on this South West Airline website. Please help. Thanks

With Firefox as browser, when working on the South West Airline website, when I clicked on the airport code or on their calendar, nothing happened such as showing airport location or the calendar to work on. with Internet Explorer, no such problem.
    Thanks

One work around is to disable CSS on southwest.com:
Toolbar -> View -> Page Style -> No Style
The page will convert into a plain linear page that looks like it was from 1994. Scroll down to where it says Round Trip and One Way and select your airport there. Press enter in one the text boxes. After the first page, you should be able to go back to the normal presentation of the website:
Toolbar -> View -> Page Style -> Basic Page Style

  • "No new AirPort networks found" help

I have an airport card in my iBook G4. It certainly works, as I am able to use it to connect to the internet (when I am within range of a public network). I do not have my own connection.
I bought an Airport Express for wireless printing. I plugged it into the wall; the light flashes orange. (This is in my apartment where I have no internet access, though AirPort is turned on.) Using AirPort Setup Assistant, I am trying to set up my network so my computer recognizes my printer. I click "Setup a new airport base station" but keep getting the above error message. The Airport Express is 10 feet from my computer. The software is AirPort 4.1.1.
    What am I doing wrong?

Additionally........the dsl is provided by verizon.........the ethernet from the modem is connected into the base station.........no network is detected by my laptop...........

  • Set up XP through Boot camp, Airport not found... what am I doing wrong?!

So I was doing some cleaning through old computer stuff and came across a copy of Windows XP that I had. I have been wanting to partition my HD to run MS OS for awhile but couldnt afford getting the OS so it worked out perfect. I went through all the step by step instructions to get it loaded onto my MacBook Pro (Late 2010) and got the OS up and running. I only partitioned about 30GB for the MS side of things, dont know if its relevant but just wanted to include it, and upon loading the windows side, I dont even have an option to use my airport. Are there any additional drivers I need to set up for the airport to work? Should they have been included with the support software that was downloaded during initial set up? Or am I just missing a step on the Windows side of things and not getting the end result? Thank you for taking a look, and the help!

You need the Windows Support Software, which is on the OSX (10.6.8) installation disc if you are (as your profile says) using Snow Leopard. If you're actually using Lion or Mountain Lion you can download it using Boot Camp Assistant, but then it will not support XP, only Windows 7 or 8.

I noticed today that I have a dead pixel (not a big deal I can exchange it, kind of a pain since I have already installed all my files and configured windows XP). My other problem is with the Airport card. The error I get is "No AirPort card installed". When I go into system preferences/network/Airport tab and click "Turn Airport On" nothing happens and the status is "off". I also try "Assist me..." and run the network diagnostics for the AirPort and it just scans forever and finds nothing. Now, here is where it gets fun. It works just fine on the Windows XP side. Like I said, I am going to exchange this Macbook anyways b/c of the pixel but I would like to know what is going on here incase this happens again. The Airport was working fine yesterday on both Mac and Windows. I'm very impressed with the graphics but disappointed that XP runs better on my new Macbook then Mac OS X.

If you have a USB2 hard drive you can spare (it will be formatted as a Mac drive, not FAT32) you can do a Time Machine backup of the machine before the exchange. You can then load that into your replacement machine and not have to reinstall anything. That's how I went from my old MacBook to the new one on Tues and it was very slick. Even Windows (under Parallels) was installed.
Oops .. just noticed date of original post: My advice is a tad too late

  • Airport no longer found in iTunes or Airport Utility but found on iDevices

A couple months ago, my two Airport Expresses and my Apple TV disappeared from iTunes AirPlay. When I ran the Airport Utility, the Airports and Apple TV could not be located.  Interestingly, the Airports displayed a green light and all iDevices (iPod Touches and iPads) could connect to the Airports via AirPlay. Like wise, Airport Utility on the iDevices located the Airports. So I connected an Airport to the router via a Ethernet cable.  Once connected via wire and after a hard reset (with an orange light displayed) the Airport Utility found the wire-connected Airport.  I ran the utility to set up the Airport and a green light came on. Then the wire-connected Airport was visible on iTunes AirPlay. So I unplugged the Airplay and returned it to the stereo.  The green light came on, but now neither iTunes not the computer based Airport Utility could find it, even though the iDevices could. I repeated this process expecting a different outcome enough times to be certified insane.
So as I sit my computer based (Windows Vista) Airport Utility and computer based iTunes (the new version) cannot locate the Airport Expresses even though the iDevices readily see them. And their green lights display a connection to the network.
I even tried a forced connection by pasting the Airport's IP address (obtained using Airport Utility on iPad) into the manual configuration of the Airport Utility on the computer.  Oddly, once the IP address was entered, the computer based Airport Utility could see the specs of the Airport Express. But when I tried to save or conclude the Computer based Airport Utility configuration, I got an error.
Another odd thing is that the Remote App on my iDevices no longer works either. I can no longer connect to my iTunes library.  The remote simply can't find my Library at all. (I confirmed that Home Sharing is on).  But I noted that in iTunes is indicated that four devices work connected or linked to the Library.  So I had iTunes "forget" the devices "connected" for Remote and tried to reconnect. I got the number could on the iDevise but the devise never appeared in iTunes Devises for selection.
So whatever problem is preventing iTunes from locating my Airport, is also blocking my iDevises from connecting to iTunes.  Meanwhile, my iDevises can sync with iTunes (while wired - I never tried a wireless sync) and can connect via AirPlay to all Airports.
I've researched this for months and found nothing to work. I'm frustrated to the point of doing something drastic like dumping iTunes and finding some other player to manage my music and stream to my stereos. I'd rather not but the vast majority of my Library can't be played over my stereo.
    Please help!

Thank you for your note. I am not sure what you mean by "bridge mode" but I have executed the reset several times. In fact, I reset the things enough times to be certified crazy. The thing is, the things are connected to the network. My iDevices can stream music to them via AirPlay and my iDevices can view them in Airport Utility.
The problem appears to be iTunes. iTunes cannot find the AirPort Expresses (even though they are definitely on the network).  Likewise, the Remote App on my iDevices does not work in that although previously matched, they could not access the Library. When I forced a "forget" and tried to re-match, my devices were not discovered/displayed on iTunes.
What I don't understand is why my AirPort Utility on the computer can't find the Expresses but AirPort Utility on my iDevices can find them.
Keep in mind that this is a wireless issue. If I plug the Express into the router and rest it, iTunes sees it just fine. The Remote App does not work still.

  • I have installed airport express and it lights steady green. But when I use the airport tool, nothing can be found.

I have installed airport express on my Window 7 and had problem to find the airport express.
I solved the problem by turning off my AVG firewall and  the airport tool found the airport express and it went steady green.
I then turned on the AVG firewall again and it continues ok.
But when I turn off and restarted my laptop I have to follow the same procedure.
The AVG firewall is set to All Allowed for the airport express.
Is there anybody out there that can give assistance to solve this problem?

    Hi,
I solved the problem myself by updating the Wi-fi driver.
    Now it works perfect.

  • Airport Express (AX) not found after restart....driving me mad, please help...!

    Hello,
I tried to search for this issue but never found the solution. In the meantime, it drives me mad......so please do respond if you know the answer.
Here is the problem. I have a WDS setup for our home, time capsule as base and several airport extremes (AX) for the wifi net through the house. In addition there is one AX for iTunes and I have one setup for the printer. Untill last week everything worked just fine. However, after installing a new printer, the printer AX blinked amber. I performed a reset and went through the setup, my AirPort Utility found it right away. I followed the steps for setting it up to join my current wireless network (usb printer). However, after the message: "The settings for this AirPort Express have been successfully updated. You can close this window or wait for this AirPort Express to restart" , the AX restarted, I finally got a message telling me there was an error joining my network. So I closed the ultility, resetted the AX and went through the process again. Unfortunately, the same result. Tried to connect the old printer, same result. Tried another AX, same result. Tried connecting it with a LAN cable, same result. It all goes fine untill right after the restart phase. NExt the AX is not recognized.
As nothing has been changed in the meantime, I have no clue at all what might be the problem. Anyone ????
Looking forward to the answer, untill now, I have not been able to find a solution.
    Kind regards,
    Mark

    Mark,
I am having the same problem.  I found this website, not sure if you have already given this a try.

  • Airport Express can't be found wired, or wirelessly

Since it return from the trip, the AE didn't seem to work. It could not be found/accessed wirelessly or via ethernet cable. The status light is on solid yellow, for about 20 seconds, it would blink green for 1 second, then back to solid yellow. It repeats and repeats, no matter how many times i reset it. When connected via ethernet, the mac shows that the ethernet cable is unplugged. Only during the 1 second of green light the ethernet status on the mac will change to unknown, then the whole thing repeats. Any help? Any one?

I can't access the video from that link. Are you sure the URL is correct?
You may have already done this, but if not, here are the settings you'll need to change in Manual Setup:
    1) Although not necessary, you may want to go to the "Base Station" tab and give your Express a name and password.
    2) Go to the "Wireless" tab and choose "Join a wireless network." Enter the network name. (Be sure to use correct capitalization, as it is case-sensitive.) Put a check in the "Allow Ethernet clients" checkbox, choose the correct security mode for your network, and enter the network password.
For the time being, that's all that needs to be changed. Press "Update" and let the Express restart. Then connect to it with an Ethernet cable and disable your computer's WiFi. Rescan a few times by pressing Cmd+R. This should allow AirPort Utility to find the Express.
Another thing: you mentioned your Express was an older one. When you select your Express in the sidebar, if AirPort Utility doesn't say "AirPort Utility found an AirPort Express 802.11n," then your Express a pre-802.11n model, and you won't see the "Allow Ethernet clients" checkbox. I'm pretty sure you can't use the Ethernet port of a pre-802.11n Express that's in "Join a Wireless Network" mode, so if your Express is pre-802.11n, set the mode to "Create a wireless network" instead. Give this network a name different from that of your existing network. Then press "Update", let the Express restart, connect it to your computer by Ethernet, and see if AirPort Utility can find it. Also check whether it actually creates the network you told it to create.
    Post back with your results!

  • MacBook - the Airport hardware not found issue

    Hi,
has anyone here had a similar 'Airport not found' issue?
At random start ups, connection fails and I get the above message from the Network pane. Then I have to reboot the Mac to get an Airport connection again. And when I do I'm asked if it's ok for system prefs to join the wireless networks on my list - everytime.
Another thing that seems to fix it is to do a software update from Apple.
I tried trashing prefs, zapping, resetting psu and what else, but a malfunction pattern didn't emerge. Sometime it works sometime it doesn't
Because it's intermittent I'm struggling to understand if it's an hardware issue (airport failing) or something else.
I'll take to an apple centre soon, but anyone here has had a similar issue?
    thanks already
    val

cheers, I did try that. No problem found... I guess I should take it as good news
