No alert sound when receiving email

Yes, it is selected in email setup, rebooted...tried it all, but no alert sound when receiving email
anyone with a fix, please help.

This sounds like a well-known problem which has been discussed over in the Mail discussions for quite a long time.

Search there and on Google to see the variety of possible causes and fixes. Here is what appears to be a common cause and possible fix (which worked for me):

Why my new ipad Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.

Settings>Notifications .... Did you set up the various apps to receive notifications?
    Do have system sounds muted?
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

I would first check to make sure that your sound options for your alert tones is set correctly.  Please look at the following link for more information:

  • TS2755 No sound when receiving txts...

I have noticed after the last two updates I have no sound when receiving my txt messages.
Not sure if I have done something wrong...
    Thankful for any help...

No, you can't get rid of the sending sound.
If you have your text tone set to "none", you will receive no audible notification and no vibration. The work around would be to install a custom ringtone that is just silence and set the text to that. You wouldn't here anything but you'd still feel the vibration if you've turned that setting on.

  • When receiving email, sometimes Tunderbird for Mac comes to the front of the screen. How can I stop this?

When receiving email (with Thunderbird for Mac), I usually get the notification bubble on the upper right. But sometimes the entire Thunderbird window comes to the front, and interrupts what I'm working on. Is there a way to stop this?
    Thanks.

I have never heard of it happening to anyone else, so it makes any suggestion rather difficult. I don't think anyone has a clue, hence the dearth a answer in the past days

  • IPhone making strange sound when receive all types of message.

I've bought my iPhone 4S last week and it started making a really strange sound when receiving all sorts of messages (e-mail, whatsapp, sms). The sound is the sound I selected for each one but it loops 4 or 5 times everytime! What can it be?

If no change after powering your iPhone off and on, try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. An iPhone reset does not affect any data or settings.

  • Mail 3.0 (Mac OS X 10.5): No sound when new email

    Hello,
since upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5, no sound is triggered when new mail is coming, even if new mail sound is set...
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers,
    Eric

I think I just ran across a solution of sorts, though it's specific to my mail provider. I use Comcast, and when I upgraded, Mail took my old account settings. After the Leopard upgrade, the new mail sound was either not happening, or the "no mail" sound was playing even if I had new mail.
Just happened to randomly check Comcast's FAQ on how to set up smtp email for Mail, and it seems Comcast has changed their suggested smtp port number since I last set it up. I switched it to the new number listed in their current directions just to see what would happen, and voilà suddenly all the right alert sounds are playing at all the right times--including the new mail notification. (Note: I was still receiving email just fine prior to this with the old port number in there, but the alert sounds were all messed up as all of you have been describing above.)
I don't know if this will work for everyone, but it's worth a try. Sometimes ISPs do change their ports numbers over time...can't hurt to go check and see if yours are still the same.

  • E72 E-Mail does not sound the alert sound when an ...

    Dear all, Can someone help?
I just bought an E72 and activated my gmail on it. I now receive all my gmail emails in a "push mode" without any problems. But despite the fact that I have set in the active profile "General" the "Email 2.aac" alert tone, no alert tone is sounded when a message is received. I tried many other tones, but none works. All other alert tones work well with SMS, but none with Email. Any ideas / suggestions where the problem could be?
    Many thanks
    Hussein

I am very disappointed as well, you are very correct they don't alert all the email accounts but only for the TWO (max. two account only) accounts you set on the standby screen will get the alert. This is not right, what is the point having the Nokia messaging technique which doesn't alert you when you have emails come in! Crazy right?

  • TS4002 How can I get a notification sound when an email arrives?

I am using Safari and icloud to manage and check emial. I am not receiving a notification sound. How can I get an audiable sound to alret me?

Thank you. I meant new mail alert sound, but I didn't word it right   I just want to know when  new mail comes in, but its not happening. I have done different methods, including the one you suggest, but it will alert sometimes and most of the times it doesn't. For a while when I got my phone (Iphone4) and downloaded IOS6 it worked. It stopped working when I had to reset my phone to factory settings a week ago.
IOS has been updated and I have the latest software,. but it will not alert me each time I get mail. In few occassions I get the Ding of new mail, but for 15 mails I get maybe 2.
Thanks for replying to my question

  • Mail app crashes when receiving email from a particular sender

    HI All,
Here is a problem I'm facing, Mail App crashes while receiving email from a particular sender. I'm testing our new Email Hosting solution "Rackspace" and it works fine with all other Email clients or on deveices (Android, Windows Phone & Blackbarry) but on Iphone 4s (IOS 6.1.4, i guess) it crashes the Mail App.
The email I'm using is sending over to an email at ttv-asia.com domain. The user of ttv-asia.com is based in China and just to see if the problem is with the Iphone, I've tested the Iphone's Mail App in Hong Kong and it works normal.
So now... Im confused and have no Idea on how ro fix this.
    ~Ray
    <Email Edited By Host>

Sorted, it seems that livemail configured for exchange and having Google premier for exchange, results in the mail app on the iPhone crashing, when selecting an email in the Google exchange mail box, then calling up the folders , it crashes. switched off livemail mail, worked fine.
    Weird.
Google vs Microsoft, with a little help from Apple ???????????

  • E61i hangs when receiving email

    Hi all,
I've got my great nokia E61i for a couple of weeks now, but I am experiencing something weird when receiving my emails (POP). When receiving my emails, I see the first email (header) coming in, but that's it. The meter stops moving and I can only wait for an error or press cancel. So when I have 10 emails, I have to get emails 10 times to have them all in my E61i. I have had many mobile devices, no problems with this issue ever.
Another issue is that after receiving the email(s), the connection with the server is still open. But i can bear with that.
Any ideas what (setting) can cause this? Thanks in advance for any answer.
    I did the latest update:

hi, Im new to the forum and new to the N73. Do they really delete references to 3rd party apps? Particularly the ones which are solving user problems?
The nokia implmentation of email is really poor. Even Windows mobile based devices have the ability to scan the IMAP body.
Only being able to see the headers is a real joke. Nokia is stuck in the past- POP3 is unsafe and few corporates permit its use.
Come on, even the Sony Ericsson phones have proper imap implmentations..!!
Nokia 5800 v21.0.025 RM-356 (Orange profile- when will they update??)
    Nokia N73 (RM-133, OS v4.0735.3.0.2)
Nokia N85- DONT BUY, front plate fell off day 3, back panel moves. VERY cheap construction.
