No Alpha when import in Motion

Hi,
I have a clip that i need to export with Alpha Chanel in Motion.
For export, I use proRes 4444 with millions colors + but when i import the clip in Motion, the millions color + become Millions Color Only... > So , i loose the transparency and got a black background...
Any help is appreciated

If you are exporting with alpha from FCP make sure the section you're exporting is NOT rendered. If it's rendered then the render file, which will contain no alpha channel, is built into the export file.
Good call, Tom, but sad. That ol' bug got fixed with FCP7. I can export alpha clips easily these days, it's just rare that I need to.

    When I import a video to motion 5 from my GoPro Hero 3 it laggs and has the spinning beach ball for about 5 secs then goes! The software keeps crashing and freezing. But when im testing out the intros that come with motion works fine! But it only laggs when I upload my own video. Can anyone please help? Thanks

    Try transcoding a clip to Pro Res and see whether your playback performance improves.

  • "wrinkle" in text when importing from Motion to DVDSP

    I created a motion menu in Motion and imported in DVDSP. Looks great in Motion. In DVDSP the largest title is not clean. It has a "jag" through several letters along the same horizontal line. Anybody have an idea?
    thanks

    It is "not clean" in the final built DVD as well.
    I think I may have solved the problem. If I start with the 720 x 480 canvas (not the 720 x 486) and cut and paste the template I need to use (which is 720 x 486) and then pull it into DVDSP it works! The difference of 6 pixels creates these odd wrinkles.

  • White screen in viewer when importing motion file.

    When I importing a motion file into FCP, I get a white screen in the viwer. Obviously, this makes it impossible to mark in and out points. Tried everything with no luck. I am sure it is operator error. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    Thomas

    You are probably viewing the alpha channel only.
    At the top of the viewer are three buttons. The rightmost one controls the view settings. Select RGB and life should be good again.

  • Error message when importing motion files into FCP

    In FCP.
    I choose a clip/clips in my sequence. Then choose send to motion project and follow the directions from the training dvd.
    By unchecking (embed "motion" content) then save the file with a different name. Then continue with making my graphics over the video clip/clips.
    When I am done I then shut off the video layer of the clip in the motion timeline. Then I save the project. Then close Motion and try to import the motion project in FCP.
    When I try to import, I get an error message stating "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
    I go back to the training file to try the same procedure and it works fine.
    Go back to my own project and it doesn't work.
    Any ideas? Anyone?
    I have a Mac Pro 2.66GHz / 5 gigs of ram / 512 vram ATI graphics card
    Also working with universal software for FCP studio.
    Intel 2.66GHz Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    Intel 2.66GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    OK???
    Don't know what the deal is. But I made a new sequence in my project and copied my other sequence with in the new one and then tried to do the whole clip step for step process of send to motion and importing back in and it worked!!!!
    I check all the listed settings of my sequence in my browser window and both the old sequence and new sequence are the same.
    I am happy that I can move on with my work, yet I am frustrated with the fact that I am not sure exactly what the problem is.
    Thank You Again!

  • Color profile off when importing motion proj into FCP

    Color profile off when importing motion proj into FCP. Is there a way to set the profile?
    I deleted preferences in FCP.

    No, profile do many things. It is a color space. It allows different apps and systems to view colors the same. Also fcp typically works in a tub color space not rgb.

  • Motion locks up / freezes when importing files

    Motion opens fine and opens existing files fine and from what I can tell performs fine with existing projects. But now, I cannot import anything, to begin a new project or to import assets, Motion just locks up. Occasionally when I restart, it will work but not all the time. This was also happening with FCP but has not happened recently.
    Any ideas?

    You might want to post that here.

  • TS3811 When importing Photoshop layers into a motion project

    if I change position of some elements they are cropped to the bounding box of the first layer imported.  If I try to manipulate/animate elements outside this box they are cut off at the bounding box edge.

    Layered PSD are set as fixed resolution when imported, this is why things are cropped. Select the group, go to the Inspector, Group Properties and turn off fixed resolution.

  • Text Mask Created in Motion Turns Grey When Imported Into Apple DVD Studio

    I have some type that is a mask for a flame video that allows the flame to only be seen through the shapes of the letters. This is a black background with the type "punched out" to all the flames to be seen. When import this into Adobe DVD Studio Pro the black background of the masked type turns into a grey. What can I do to get the black appearance I need? Thanks!

    Lets say the following is your square (just four words Top, Right, Bottom, Left)
    The words Top, Right, Bottom, Left can all be on one Photoshop B&W pict file that is used as an overlay, all the words in black over a whit background for instance. Note however, that buttons (when you drag the button area) are limited in how they can be made so it may take a little bit of tinkering to get the button area to be over the particular section of the overlay properly and some designs may not work.
    You can try other methods, succh as buttons over video, but the above is probably the easiest and most reliable way subject to design considerations

  • Inconsistant alpha channel import on .mov files

    I am creating a movie using animation I create in Maya which is then composed in Shake with some alpha masks and exported using the animation codec to a .mov file into Motion. In reviewing my workflow (I'm about midway through things) I recognized I had an error in my screen sizes from one tool to the next and while it was not too noticeable, I thought it best to correct. This is where I should have left dead dogs lie.....
    Anyway, this is best described with the flow I show below:
    Motion Project Setup on ALL file types
    720x480, 8bit, NTSC D1/DV
    Lower First (Even)
    29.97 Fps
    Background Color - Black
    Background - Transparent
    Case 1:
    Maya__->_Shake___->Anim Codec_________>Motion 720x480
    720x486->720x486-->_Mil+_Col-->foo.mov-->File squished 6 pixels in Y
    but alpha is present
    Case 2:
    720x480->720x480-->_Mil+_Col-->foo2.mov->File is 8 pixels narrow in X
    alpha channel is not preset
    I open foo.mov and foo2.mov in shake and look at the files and the
    size is as follows:
    foo.mov - 720x486
    foo2.mov - 720x480
    BOTH .mov files have the alpha channel present and the data is correct.
    Just for grins, I output a file sequence of .tif files from shake of the
    foo2.mov files and verified that the alpha channel was present in
    photoshop and then did an import into motion with the same results of
    foo2.mov. Size is shrunk by 8 pixels in X and no alpha channel.
    It appears at least that Motion is making decisions based upon the screen
    size and importing or not importing the alpha channel.
    Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

    Well, it is strange. Shake says it is 720 and for that matter so does Motion in the Media tab. Motion says it is 720x480 as does shake but when the clip is overlayed against the black background you can see 4 pixels on each side of the clip. The motion project file says it is 720x480 too.
    UPDATE....
    I just checked the motion file and deleted all of the media clips, but when I went to the media tab there was still one copy of the old 720x486 clip there. Every time and method I tried to delete it, it would crash motion. So, I copied all of the other text data I was using motion to generate, created a new motion project and pasted the text in. When I import the 720x480 file into the new project it lines up perfect. This must be a "feature mode" I must have gotten motion into.
    Anyway, problem solved. Thanks much for your help Andy. I kept looking at this and not seeing the forest for the trees.
    Much appreciated.

  • Import fl.motion

    I'm trying to get this code working from the help file.
    import fl.motion.MotionEvent;
    abox_animator.addEventListener(MotionEvent.MOTION_END,afterMotion);
    function afterMotion(e:MotionEvent) {     trace("animation complete!");  }
    I've tried using the code as is, and also my own verision
    girod_mc.stop()
    //girod_mc.autoRewind = true;
    play_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,playMovie);
    import fl.motion.MotionEvent;
    play_btn.addEventListener(MotionEvent.MOTION_END,reStart);
    function playMovie (event:MouseEvent):void
        girod_mc.play();
        play_btn.alpha = 0;
    function reStart (event:MotionEvent)
        girod_mc.rewind();
        play_btn.alpha = 1;
    If I use the code as is from the help file, I get abox_animator undefined, which is normal.
    If I replace abox_animator with girod_mc, I no longer get an undefined, but the code doesn't seem to get exectute.
    BUT I don't understand enough about it to go any further.
    I had supposed that if I executed the help file code exactly as it, that it would work.
    Can anyone please help me, or point me to a page that will explain this ?
    What I am trying to accomplish :
    In my code I have a play button, when the internaute hits this play button it disappears. That works fine.
    At the end of the film, I want the film to rewind and the play button to appear again.
    I can get the film to rewind by using girod_mc.autoRewind = true;
    But I thought I'd try to get it working in my fuction instead.
    TIA
    Pat

    Sorry I made a typo error.
    I have put the following 2 lines in the last frame on the layer with the video girod_mc
    dispatchEvent(new Event("ended"));
    stop();
    I have 3 layers, 1 for the movie clip, 1 for the button, and 1 for the action script.
    Untill you told me to put the above code.
    In the video layer I now have 2 frames, the second one containing the above lines of code.
    and I put the below lines on an action script layer frame 1 but it still isn't working.
    thanks for sticking with me.
    // ******************** and change your current code to:
    play_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,playMovie);
    girod_mc.addEventListener("ended",reStart);
    function playMovie (event:MouseEvent):void
        girod_mc.play();
        play_btn.visible=false;
    function reStart (event:MotionEvent)
        play_btn.visible=true;

    My best guess would be inconsistent drive speed or vibration detection by the Sudden Motion Sensor. If the problem is more or less consistent, I would assume the former. If only infrequent, I would tend to go with the latter. Here is some background information per Apple Article 300781:
    All MacBook and MacBook Pro computers, PowerBook G4 computers starting with PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), and PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz) and iBook computers starting with iBook G4 (Mid 2005) have Sudden Motion Sensor technology, built-in protection for the hard disk that is designed to help prevent disk failures if the computer is dropped or undergoes severe vibration. The Sudden Motion Sensor is designed to detect unusually strong vibrations, sudden changes in position or accelerated movement. If the computer is dropped, the Sudden Motion Sensor instantly parks the hard drive heads to help reduce the risk of damage to the hard drive on impact. When the Sudden Motion Sensor senses that the PowerBook position is once again stable, it unlocks the hard drive heads, and you are up and running within seconds.
    In general, Sudden Motion Sensor protection does not change hard disk performance with regular PowerBook, MacBook or MacBook Pro operation. Occasionally, the Sudden Motion Sensor may be activated by unusually strong vibrations at a time when your PowerBook is writing data intensively, such as when recording video or audio. Should you experience dropped frames or sound elements in such a situation, make sure that your PowerBook is in a stable environment without vibration or abrupt movement.
    (Note that in some locations you may see the Sudden Motion Sensor referred to as the Mobile Motion Module. Both names refer to the same feature.)
    For those interested, the following was extracted from Apple Article 300724:
    Apple has adjusted this feature carefully to provide the best balance between protecting the hard drive and preventing unwanted activation of the Sudden Motion Sensor. Most PowerBook G4 owners will never need to turn this feature off, and Apple suggests that you not modify the settings unless absolutely necessary.
    In some environments, such as live concert halls, recording studios, or dance clubs, external vibrations may be major enough to cause the module to unexpectedly park the hard drive heads, resulting in interrupted sound or video playback. In these situations, you may find that you want to disable the feature temporarily.
    To disable the Sudden Motion Sensor:
    First, find the current status of Sudden Motion Sensor:
    1. From the Finder's Go menu, choose Utilities.
    2. In the Utilities folder, open Terminal.
    3. When the command line appears, type sudo pmset -g and press Return.
    4. Type in the administrator password when prompted and hit Return. This command queries the computer for the current setting of the Sudden Motion Sensor, which you can determine by locating the ams entry (in Mac OS X 10.3) or the sms entry (in Mac OS X 10.4) and looking to the right to determine its value. The default setting is "1" (turned on).
    Disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor in Mac OS X 10.3:
    1. In Terminal, which should still be open from the previous step, you can disable the Sudden Motion Sensor by typing sudo pmset -a ams 0 and pressing Return (changing the setting to a zero disables the module).
    2. Type your administrator password when you are prompted and press Return.
    3. Type the sudo pmset -g command again to be sure that the setting has been applied.
    Disabling the Sudden Motion Sensor in Mac OS X 10.4:
    1. In Terminal, which should still be open from the previous step, you can disable the Sudden Motion Sensor by typing sudo pmset -a sms 0 and pressing Return (changing the setting to a zero disables the module).
    2. Type your administrator password when you are prompted and press Return.
    3. Type the sudo pmset -g command again to be sure that the setting has been applied.
    Any changes that you make to the Sudden Motion Sensor setting remains in effect even after you restart the computer. If you choose to disable the Sudden Motion Sensor, Apple recommends that you re-enable it as soon as possible in order to take full advantage of the feature.
    To re-enable the Sudden Motion Sensor:
    First, find the current status of Sudden Motion Sensor:
    1. From the Finder's Go menu, choose Utilities.
    2. In the Utilities folder, open Terminal.
    3. When the command line appears, type sudo pmset -g and press Return. Type your administrator password when you are prompted and press Return. If you have the Sudden Motion Sensor turned off, the value of the ams entry (in Mac OS X 10.3) or sms entry (in Mac OS X 10.4) will be a zero (0).
    Re-enabling the Sudden Motion Sensor in Mac OS X 10.3:
    1. If the above command returns a zero, you can re-enable the Sudden Motion Sensor by typing sudo pmset -a ams 1 and pressing Return.
    2. Type your administrator password when you are prompted and press Return.
    3. Type the pmset -g command again to be sure that the setting has been applied.
    Re-enabling the Sudden Motion Sensor in Mac OS X 10.4:
    1. If the above command returns a zero, you can re-enable the Sudden Motion Sensor by typing sudo pmset -a sms 1 and pressing Return.
    2. Type your administrator password when you are prompted and press Return.
    3. Type the pmset -g command again to be sure that the setting has been applied.

  • Export/Import From Motion to FCP

    Hello
    I'm new to this forum and have just recently begun working in the film and video industry. I am also new to the Apple community. So please excuse any misuse of terms as am not fully integrated into the business yet. I have created a background that has a lot of motion as well as an emitter in it and duplicating the sequence didn't seem to be the way to go. So I looped the sequence to run for 90 minutes. I am trying to decide if there is a need to export the file from motion as a quicktime file or should I just import the motion document into FCP and overlay my text elements (also created in motion) on V2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    By the way thanks to Patrick for all you great "fun with" projects they have been a great help in learning Motion.

    Thanks for your input. What I'm building is a sponsor loop for a banquet. I needed a 90 minute graphics bed over which to apply my text and logo elements. I ended up modify and existing 15 sec clip from the motion library tossing in an emitter and looping it for 90 minutes.
    The problem was the sheer size of the file and the time it took to render if FCP. I ended up exporting the file as an 8 bit uncompressed QT movie so I wouldn't have to rerender it in FCP. It took about 2 1/2 hours but in the end it worked out.
    Here is a follow up question. I have finished the text and logo element that goes over the bed but when the time comes to import the Motion file into FCP I have to render every time I put it into the timeline. I realize that the first time it appears it's necessary but is there a way to get around that having to let the thing render over night as this clip will be copied 44 times and each copy takes about 6 minutes to render.
    I was thinking about exporting it as a QT file from motion just like the background but then I can't get the title sequence to appear over the backgound the way I would like as a QT element compared to Motion element. Tranparency issues.
    Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when importing HDV Video

    For some reason I keep getting crashes when importing HDV (720p60) video into the timeline of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  This has happened on two different machines, with similar specs.
    Per the suggested guidelines, here are the specifics:
    Version of Premiere Pro: CS6, Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC:264587))
    All updates have been installed.
    Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8.5.
    Source footage: HDV 720p60 video in .MOV container.
    Full text of error message: "Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
    Link to full crash report: http://goo.gl/Gn8Bzn
    Crash occurs when trying to import HDV .MOV file.
    This is a consistent problem when importing .MOV files of this type.
    Complete Adobe Creative Suite is installed.  Also using Episode Pro encoding software from Telestream to prepare HDV video.  No other external video hardware or codecs installed.
    Yes, I am using the Mecury Playback Engine GPU acceleration.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me figure this one out.
