No AM/PM in Bridge... so Time is kinda useless

Is there any way to get the AM/PM to show up in the Bridge UI for create/mod times? The precise times exist, because I can see them in Explorer, but Bridge just shows the numbers in 12 hour fomat and no other distinction... which mise well show no time at all.
Any ideas?

Agreed. But I'm not a 24 hour clock person. I don't like plaid, nor shag carpet.
I think Adobe misses the point of clock types. We use different clocks for different purposes. A watch and car clock for example, don't have an AM/PM marker - similarly to the OS itself. These are all used in REAL TIME. You don't look at your watch in the afternoon and say, what time did I take that picture this morning? Software is used after the fact, and therefore should have a time display independant of the OS.
watch, car clock, OS clock =  what time IS it
software time/dates =  what time WAS it

  • "No Internet Connection" via AirPort Extreme bridged to Time Capsule

    Hello,
We have a fairly large and odd home network consisting of a Comcast cable modem connected to a Netgear router, a Time Capsule wired to that one floor down (serving up WiFi and DHCP), and a new AirPort Extreme wired one floor below that, extending the WiFi network of the Time Capsule and set to bridge mode.
On one MacBook Pro (and possibly others, haven't had them available to test yet), trying to connect to WiFi while downstairs (i.e. to the AirPort Extreme) yields a strong wireless connection, but "no Internet connection"; checking via network diagnostics or the Network panel reveals that the MacBook Pro has no IP address. This seems odd, as it happens even if the connection is first made on the 2nd floor to the Time Capsule, where a valid IP is retrieved, and then carried downstairs; even though the same IP address should be valid, the laptop's WiFi menubar icon starts cycling again and eventually shows the "!" and reports no Internet connection.  Checking the Network panel reveals no IP address via DHCP.  However, if I let it sit for a minute or two, the IP address comes back (the same one!) and all is well, at least for a while.
I've tried switching to a manually-assigned static IP as a workaround, and that works perfectly well, but I'd like to get DHCP working properly if I can, for convenience's sake. Is there any reason why I should be having trouble with getting DHCP from the Time Capsule via the AirPort Extreme?

Actually, yeah, my predecessor explained that he was running DHCP on the Time Capsule instead of the Netgear because he hadn't needed DHCP prior to the adding of a WiFi point (all other nodes were on Ethernet), so it had always been turned off on the Netgear. But your suggestion makes a lot more sense, of course, so I've put the Time Capsule into bridge mode as well and started the DHCP server on the Netgear. Seems to be working with my iPhone, though that was always working okay. I won't have access to the laptop to test it until later this afternoon, but I have high hopes.
    Thank you!

  • Wy douse the bridge override time to live for individual jms-messages?

Hi, we have a problem with time to live for individual jms-messages.
We have a JMS-bridge (ASYNC) between two wls, one application publish a jms masseage on a jms queue with the QueueSender. When the message i sent we set the time to live for the jms-message.
The bridge then transport the jms message from one wls to the an other. When the message i received on the subscriper side the message time to live is no longer set to the value we specified, the value is now overrided with the default time to live value set on the source ConnectionFactor.
How do prevent the override of the time to live value.
              Regards
              /Johan

    Hi,
If the target destination is WL 9.0 or higher you can configure the bridge to preserve message properties -- the MBean attribute name is "PreserveMsgProperty".
Alternatively, if source and target destination are WL 9.0 or higher, you can configure WebLogic store-and-forward instead of a bridge.
Finally, if the expiration time is always the same relative to the current time at the point when the bridge forwards the message, you can administratively configure the target destination with a "TimeToLiveOverride" (via the destination configuration itself - not the bridge configuration).

  • Password-protect Airport Snow as bridge on Time Capsule

I set up my new Time Capsule (removing the Netgear router) to my Comcast cable modem and eventually got all my Macs, PCs, and printers connected. I applied WPA encryption to the TC. I'd turned my old Airport Snow into a bridge so long ago that I forgot how to get into its settings. It allows one to connect to my network without a password. I want to rename it and set up password protection on it. Can anyone lay out the steps? thanks!

I'm not sure why you still need the Snow as a bridge if you are also using Time Capsule, but here goes:
Use a computer that either is connected wirelessly to the wireless network generated by the Snow or is connected via Ethernet to the Snow's LAN port. Launch AirPort Admin Utility (also called AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow). In the list of base stations that appears, select the Snow and click "Configure". Type in the base station password. (The base station password is not the same thing as the network password, which you aren't using.) If you have forgotten the base station password, reset the base station. (See Resetting the AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet).) In the AirPort pane of AirPort Admin Utility, in the bottom half of the pane under "AirPort Network" type in a new name for the network. Click "Change Wireless Security" and add a password. Click "OK" and "Update".
You won't be able to set up WPA security on the Snow; it only can use WEP (which is far from secure).

  • Using an Older (802.11g) Airport Extreme as bridge with Time Capsule

Several people have inquired about the possibility of having older (802.11g) computers and devices connected through their Time Capsules without disturbing the 802.11n capabilities of their newer equipment.
The latest version of Designing AirPort Networks Using AirPort Utility --
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf -- explains (pp. 48-49) that one can configure a dual-band (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz) network of this type by setting up the "second device [i.e., the older Airport Extreme] as a bridge." What is lacking is a clear (at least to me) way of configuring the 2.4 GHz Extreme as such a bridge, although the text states that one need only follow instructions "earlier in this chapter" (which begins at p. 14). When I try to do this, the AirPort Extreme shows up as a separate network.
Obviously, I am doing something wrong. Can someone walk me through how to configure the AirPort Extreme as a bridge?
    Thanks.

The MAC support people walked me through a solution to my question about using an older (802.11g) AirPort Extreme and a Time Capsule to form a dual network. The solution turns out to be pretty easy but I am posting it in case anyone else has a similar problem.
    Here's what was involved:
N-capable equipment: MacBook Pro, IMac, Time Capsule.
B/G-capable equipment: AirPort Extreme (flying saucer 802.11g); Mac G4; older (802.11g) AirPort Express supporting a network printer; IBM ThinkPad running Windows XP (w/service pack 2).
Step 1: Using AirPort Utility (manual setup), I set the Time Capsule to run at 5 GHz (click on "Wireless" then "Radio Mode". Under the same "Wireless" tab, I assigned a 13-digit WPA2 password to this network (more about this latter). If you opt to use the 5GHz frequency, you have the choice of WPA2 or nothing. After saving your settings, exit out of the AirPort Utility; you are done with the Time Capsule.
Step 2: Reset the AirPort Extreme to its default settings by depressing the small reset button while the device is plugged in.
Step 3: I reopened AirPort Utility, accessed the Extreme and clicked manual setup. (You will loose your connection to the Time Capsule at this point, but this is okay.) At the top of the screen that opens in response to clicking "manual setup," click "internet" and set "connection sharing" to "Off (Bridge Mode)" Next click "AirPort" at the very top of the screen: under "Base Station" I named the Extreme as "G network" and set up a network password. Under "Wireless" I next set up a WEP 40 bit password which was identical to the WPA2 password I used for the Time Capsule. Using a WEP password was necessary, because some of the older computers were not WPA2 compatible. I kept the passwords identical simply as a matter of convenience.
Step 4: Connect the AirPort Extreme to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable between the WAN port of the Extreme, and one of the three LAN ports on the Time Capsule. There is a small, green LED recessed in the LAN port socket; if it lights up, you are in business.
Step 5: Using a pin, I reset the 802.11g AirPort Express to its default settings, opened AirPort Utility (no need for manual setup for this), named the Express "Printer" and added it to the G network in a conventional manner by following the setup prompts. (If anyone needs help with this, let me know). Exit out of AirPort Utility and reopen it to refresh; all wireless devices (3 in my case) should be visible and lighted green.
Step 6: I set up the MacBook Pro and the IMac to join the 5 GHz Time Capsule network, and everything else to run on the G network. At this point, everything appears to be working. I can, for example, print a document from my MacBook Pro (N-network) to the network printer which on the G-network. (Because the older computers belong to my daughters, I'll never know if file sharing across the networks is a possibility.)
I take no credit for any of this; it was all accomplished through the efforts of very patient MAC support people.

  • Using Airport Extreme as Bridge with Time Capsule

I recently replaced an Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule, which has been great. However, I would like to use the Airport Extreme in bridge mode to extend the range of my wireless network. I don't want to use WDS, so I've connected the two via ethernet. So, the setup is this:
Cable modem connected to Time Capsule WAN Port
Time Capsule creating 802.11N (b/g compatible) network
Airport Extreme connected to one of the Time Capsule's LAN ports
However, the Airport Extreme doesn't have an option for "Extend a wireless network" under Wireless Mode - it just has "Create a wireless network" and "Participate in a WDS network".
My goal is to have the Airport Extreme essentially acting as a remote antenna for the network being created by the Time Capsule. Is this not possible? Is it because of the difference in wireless speed (N vs. G)?

However, the Airport Extreme doesn't have an option for "Extend a wireless network" under Wireless Mode - it just has "Create a wireless network" and "Participate in a WDS network".
The "extend" option is only applicable to 802.11n capable devices. However this doesn't matter since the "extend" option and WDS are both used for wirelessly extending a network. Since you are not doing that, you will not use either of those.
You should configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to create a wireless network. You would configure the AEBS to use the same SSID (Network name) as the Time Capsule as well as the same wireless encryption type/level/password. To reduce interference, you would configure the AEBS to use a channel as far from the one used by the Time Capsule as possible.

  • To bridge a Time Capsule

I want to wirelessly connetct my 4G Huawei router to my Time Capsule. How do I do that ?
    Settings and so.

What OS and what airport utility are you running?? It makes a big difference for this setup..
Please not you can only get the worst possible setup out of this.. TC is not designed for this usage.. it is always meant to use ethernet to the WAN connection.. so all you will be doing is joining wireless and making the TC a client.. the ethernet ports will turn off on the TC and it will get no usage out of the wireless.. it will become super slow and super poor..
But if you have earlier utility you can do it manually. Select wireless mode and hold down the option key.. the hidden (because it is so lousy) option, "join a wireless network will appear.
For v6 utility you have to depend on the automatic setup.. factory reset the TC and select it under wifi.. then the option to join wireless network might be offered.. then again it might not.

  • IPhoto Back-Ups From Time Machine/Time Capsule Are Useless.

I use iPhoto constantly and I use a 2TB Time Capsule with Time Machine on and nothing omitted from it's back ups.
When trying to recover my iPhoto library today with Time Machine using both the Time Machine Interface and the Finder, I kept getting incomplete albums that were missing photos, even if they were versions created after the photos were imported. I was stumped.
A little research uncovered this support article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4116
    Summary:
+iPhoto libraries are not backed up by Time Machine if iPhoto is running during the back up process.+
Oh No. I leave my iPhoto application open constantly.
I bought the best MacBook Pro money could by with 8GB of RAM so I could have multiple applications open for my design work which can sometimes have me grinding away for hours, if not days on multiple projects, all using iPhoto and Photoshop.
There is no "Save" function in iPhoto. Does this mean I am supposed to periodically quit iPhoto, perform a Time Machine back up, then restart iPhoto?
Does that sound reasonable to anyone?
This is an absolute horror show for me.
If anyone knows where freshly imported photos go if they don't end up in the iPhoto library's back-up because iPhoto was running while the back up occurred, I would love to know. Is there a photo-limbo?

Dear Joel, I'm not an expert but I believe that it is simply impossible backing up something on progress; in other words since TM works through an incremental back up of the file, I think it's mandatory to stop working on a file before the copy of it is performed, that's to say you must close iPhoto.

  • Alarm Clock/Timer pretty much useless.

Before the 2.2 update I had the normal low volume issue. After the update the notification and ringer volumes are fine. Last night i was playing around with the DX and set the alarm clock. When it went off if it wasn't for the vibrate and rattling on the table I never would have known. I have the alarm volume up all the way. I hope there is a solution, not that I'm going to depend on the DX as an alarm clock, but it's the only issue I have with the phone to this point.

In general, I have found that relying on ANY phone alarm to wake up by can be pretty risky. I downloaded a tone called "Danger"from one of the big free ringtone sites (also part of the iPhone tone collection) , ran it through Audacity to normalize (and hopefully maximize) its volume, it has never failed to wake me up.
Having said this, I had to send a memo around to the techs and staff here that said I will NO LONGER accept "i didn't hear my phone alarm go off" as a valid reason for being late. Yes, it got that bad.

  • Turn a PDF into an App? Can it be done?

I have a few PDF files that I use constantly for reference on the job. I can open them in a reader app like GoodReader, but I do have to drill down to the specific documents each time I need to open one.
How great it would be to have each of the documents as an app, with its own icon on a launcher screen!
Does anyone know of any way to turn a PDF (or any other) document into its own app that can go onto the screen?

The only way that I can think of is to place them on a web server somewhere. navigate to them in safari and tell safari, to save the shortcut to that webpage on the home screen. then when you click on the shortcut, safari opens to that "page" which is really the pdf being served as a web page.
a Developer can make a simple app to display one pdf as the home pdf, but you couldn't install more than one version of the app at a time, so you could only have one pdf ready at a time. Kinda useless.

  • Did you know this about bridge?

I'm just curious if I'm the only one who is this slow... :p
But did you know you could use Bridge to search your computer for images by dimensions? Man, I spent sooo much time this morning trying to find a way to 'trick' Windows into giving me a search by dimensions option. :D
    Afterwards, I wasted even
more time googling for utilities or tools with that feature. :\ Then it hit me: I remembered seeing all kinds of neat bits of image information in Bridge last time I used it.
And there it was, in the "find" menu... lol

You are absolutely right, it is good business practice to check out the offerings from a company before you show or give it to your customers.
I guess I just assumed that there would be a cut-out on the front cover of the Aperture books, since the soft cover books I ordered from iPhoto did have the front cover cut-out.
My question, however, is where in the description of the Aperture hard cover book does it state that the cover photo is pasted on ? It is difficult to tell how the front cover is constructed from the photos on the Aperture web site.
...... I may have missed it.
    A lesson learned!
    Thanks for your comments.

  • If I make minor keyword updates in Bridge, how do I update an existing catalog to catch the changes?

Is there a way to update the LR3 keyword hierarchies in existing LR catalogs for minor changes done in Bridge?
I have started to use LR for the first time.  I have about 50K photos that are key worded from within Bridge in maybe a hundred sub dirs.  The hierarchies seem to work somewhat differently in Bridge than in Lightroom catalogs & don't seem to handshake with each other. Apparently I should have originally turned on the keyword hierarchies in preferences in the Bridge when I originally set the keywords. I have hundreds of keywords without hierarchies. Now I want to correct the (missing delimiters) hierarchies in LR3 (using the most efficient method).
(The hierarchies do not show up on Bridge filters, so I saw no reason to use them originally, when I had fewer keywords).  Correcting the hierarchy in LR seems to not go back and correct the Bridge hierarchies.  So if there is a way to get the keyword hierarchy to update back from LR to Bridge, that would be the easiest way to fix the hierarchies, but I don't see how to do it.  Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    ron...

It will depend on if you saved the metadata from LR to the file or not. If not and you update the keywords in bridge, you will loose one or the other your choice.
If you saved the metadata, then its a simple matter of just reading the metadata into LR or syncing that file.
If you plan on editing metadata in bridge from time to time, then you need to get in the habit of saving the metadata (ctrl-s in windows) from LR or turn on autosave.

  • How to set up time capsule with router

I have a router N 300 and would like to buy time capsule but I did not find any information how to set up bouth devises. Thanks

You can always bridge the Time Capsule.. it is easy. Once bridged the time capsule will no longer route. All routing is then handled by the original router.. N300 (which could be belkin or netgear and maybe other people call then N300). It will still work as a wireless access point.. unless you turn it off, a switch with WAN now allocated to LAN, and a network drive.
    Just look up bridge.
But there are other ways to do things. You could replace the N300, unless it is a modem.. in which case you can bridge that and use pppoe client on the TC (if you ISP does pppoe).
