No Apple or Claris Works on inel imac!

Is there any way to open all of my old Claris or Apple works on my new intel im ac? How can I view this and the answers to this after it is posted?

You'll need AppleWorks 6.2.9 which works fine on the Intel. I mostly use spreadsheets and drawing documents. Files from my trusty G3 OS8.6/AW5.0.3 opened ok but had to be resaved in the new version after any work.
The best thing I found to do was select all the documents in a folder and open them all at once, click to allow "open in the newer version" and close 1 by 1 saving into the same folder by clicking "replace" with the newer version. If you place your mouse pointer in the right place you just have to click between keyboard and mouse. If a file name ends in something like '05/06' it will be saved as '05-06' beside the original instead of replacing it.

  • How to open Apple/Claris Works docs on iMac 10.8.3?

I've tried opening Apple and Claris Works docs from 1999-2004 in Pages, but no go. Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Hello Jronci,
if you have iWork 2009, Pages must be able to open AppleWorks 6 word processing files, Number AppleWorks 6 spreadsheet files, ...
If you have older files ( or a newest version of iWork):
    - one solution is indeed to virtualize OsX10.6 and launch AppleWorks to convert
       these files
    - you can also use LibreOffice 4.1 to convert the word processing files and maybe
EazyDraw to convert some drawing files,
    see for instance: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page1.html

  • What non-Apple keyboards will work with the iMac?

We just got an iMac and it came with a wired mouse and a wired keyboard that we want to replace. What wireless keyboards will work that are NOT the Apple brand? Thank you.

You can use any USB wired keyboard with a Mac.
There are Windows keyboards (which will work, but have
odd 'other' key-faces.) And there are several third-party Mac
compatible keyboards with proper keys laid out for Macs.
Any reputable dealer often has these; and online, even more.
Doesn't the Apple Store page show a few non-Apple k/bds?
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Does the apple usb superdrive work with an imac?

I have a new iMac and was surprised I couldn't burn a cd because there is no disc drive! Can the Apple USB Superdrive be used with the iMac? The product details do not mention compatability with an iMac, only MacBook Pro & Mac Mini.

According to http://www.apple.com/mac/compare/ it's compatible wtih the new iMacs.

  • Why won't my Apple Earbuds' mic work on my iMac?

So my USB headset's mic stopped working so I went to get my earbuds to use that mic for now. Plugged it in the headphone jack, chose Line-In input in my sound settings and skype settings, and the mic doesn't work.

    Hi...
The headphone jack is for audio out only.
For input, you need to use the input port.

  • How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?

How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?
              Thank you, Morty S.

I have a perfectly-working LW 4/600 with exactly the same issue. They use localtalk - a long obsolete network connection, that doesn't connect to modern networks, and appletalk as the comm protocol.
I think the only choice you have is to use an old powerPC Mac as print server. You tell me which old Mac you have, with a localtalk connector, or that runs OS X 10.4 or earlier (so it speaks appletalk), and I'll tell you how I've done it for the past 11 years or so.
Right now I use a G4 running 10.4.11, plus an etherMac ethernet to localtalk adapter.
Before, I used a PMac 6100 running LPD server software.

Virtually any DVD burner that can connect to your Mac will work. They start at $40 on Amazon.

  • Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work, I have tried booting with Snow Leopard disc in and nothing works. I had trouble from the start but now nothing works except Windows 7, sound wont work etc. etc.

I originally tried installing Widows 7 so I could run my Flight Simulator X on the IMac I got from my daughter and I used BootCamp and had partitioned it at about 4GB for windows and the first thing I got was I had to put a bootable disc in and neither the windows 7 or Snow Leopard would work. Then I got Windows 7 to work but I can't get Snow Leopard to run, when I put the disc in it says that it not supported. Of course windows wont show me anyother areas of the disc that I could try to get to, the other side of the partition I guess. I have tried holding the C key down on reboot and that doesn't work. I hope this gives you a little more insight as to what is going on. Thanks Bill

  • Apple maps not working on iMac

apple maps not working on iMac the little thing just keeps turning

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Maps.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Transfer floppy data from Claris Works, (1992-1995) to imac g5

Help, I have my master thesis on 1.44 floppies from 1992-1995 that were created with Claris Works, on a LC mac. I need to get the data transfered or at least be able to open the floppies to copy the work. I have tried several floppy drives attached to my imac and get an error message. Is there a way to open these disks, put the floppy info on a cd, and be able to use this data on an imac? Is there an outside source that can do this?
    Thank you, [email protected]

    Hi,
Generally speaking, 1.44 MB floppy disks ought to be readable in an external USB drive (800K Mac floppies are not). It is difficult to say whether or not extra drivers are required in this very case. You may want to post additional information about the floppy drive models tested.
Are the floppies as such recognised at all? What kind of error message is it? Exactly when does the message appear? I guess that it would be correct to assume that any files on the diskettes are not visible.
The best alternative would be to try to locate a semi-old Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive and Ethernet (or a dial-up Internet connection). You could then transfer the files through an internal network or via e.g. email.
Unless you have done so already, make sure that each floppy is locked (the slider in the write-protected position) in order to avoid overwriting/erasing anything.

  • Apple superdrive not working on iMac , will not mount , not recognized

I bought a new superdrive and it was not detected on my iMac. The internal drive was failed , I found a solution here.
    http://www.hardturm.ch/luz/2011/10/how-to-make-the-macbook-air-superdrive-work-w ith-any-mac/

The Apple USB SuperDrive only works officially on Macs without a built-in SuperDrive (the MacBook Air, Mid 2011 and newer Mac minis, the Late 2012 iMac and the MacBook Pro with Retina display). As your iMac has got a built-in optical drive, it doesn't work by default, but as you said, that workaround makes the Apple USB SuperDrive work.
Anyway, if you have a Mac with a built-in SuperDrive and the SuperDrive gets damaged, I recommend you to buy a different external optical drive. The Apple external optical drive doesn't have a good reputation because it often fails and it's much expensive than other external optical drives
