No Apps listed in Applications Folder

I have noticed lately that when I search for applications in Finder from the sidebar (username/Applications), I don't see any applications listed in column view (or in any view for that matter). However, if I simply select 'Applications' from the sidebar, all of my installed applications appear in Finder. Do you have any idea what might have happened here?

There are two Application folders, one at root level and one in your Home folder. Normally applications are placed in the one at root level so that they are available to all users of the mac. If for some reason you are one of several users and you want to keep an pplication for your own use only you would put it in the Applications folder in your Home Folder. Normally you wouldn't to this, so it's quite normal for the folder to be empty.

Why don't I see Lr CC (2015) in my Adobe Desktop App list of applications.

    Hi Uri,
    What OS you are using?
Lightroom CC won’t be shown in the Creative Cloud desktop application if your system doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements. It’s likely you are on a system with Mac OS 10.7 or earlier, or a 32-bit version of Windows 7 or 8. If you system meets the minimum requirements, try signing out and back into the Creative Cloud application and see if the Apps panel updates.
Please let me know if this is not the case.

  • Update Lightroom 5 to CC, app not in applications folder

I have a photographer package and try to updated Lightroom 5 to CC now two times but can't find the app in the applications folder on my computer...

if you updated (actually upgraded) to lr cc (2015), it won't be in the lr 5 directory.  lr 5 is not removed with that upgrade so that's your (now) older version.
check applications>adobe>lightroom cc directory or order your directories by creation date to easily find the most recently created applications>adobe subdirectory.

  • Installing an app - reference to /Applications folder??

I have seen an app called MACalc that is freely available and I would like to try it out. It is not available via the Apple App Store, but via a download from the authors site.
The instructions that come with it state to copy the app into the /Applications folder (presumably on the iPhone) where it will be picked up when the iPhone restarts.
The instructions make it sound as though this is an easy thing to do, but I must be stupid or something because I can' find any way to look at the file structure of the iPhone so I can copy the file(s).
Can some kind soul please enlighten me as to how I can copy the app to the /Applications folder?
    Thanks
    Susan

I think in RPN (long years of practice/habit with HP calculators).
I know there are RPN calculators in the app store but I have seen good reviews about this and it was free. However that is 'free' only in terms of $'s - I'm not prepared to jailbreak (or whatever the correct term is) my phone.
I was thinking that there may be some "obvious" way to do this that I was not aware of - hence my question.

  • App Not In Applications folder, but App Store says it's installed.

Anybody have any ideas on this?
One of my apps is missing from my Applications folder, so I went into the app store to try to re-download it, however the application store says the App in question is installed...
There is a 'free' version of the same app in the app store, so I decided to try downloading it, which works, but again the full version of the App is still missing...

    Neither of these ideas apply...
Prior to exausting everything I could think of, the free version was not installed, and in fact had never been 'purchased' (it did not show up in my purchases list, and the button on it read 'free' instead of 'install')...
The first thing I did was a spotlight search for JPEGmini, with no results comming up.
I then went into the App Store which is when I found that it was reported as installed.
I proceeded to use the Terminal app to try and determine if a hidden flag had been set on the app in the Applciatons folder (rendering it present but invisible), but was able to confirm there was no applicable hidden item...
It was then that I 'bought' and downloade the free version, just to see if it would work.  It worked as expected, and even upon deleting the app the 'INSTALLED' indicator in the App Store went back to an 'INSTALL' button...
I've since removed the free version but am still unable to install the full version...

  • When using a Foscam FI8910W IP Camera, how do I get the 2-way audio function to work? I have VLC as a video app in my applications folder. I am running OSX 10.8

Again, I am on a 2011 MBP, running OSX 10.8.4, and I use VLC as my default player. I bought a Foscam FI8910W Pan&Tilt camera, which has 2-way audio capability through the browser. I have looked online and the only people who have this camera who can also use their audio functions are those individuals who are on a PC running IE. The Foscam website says to fix this issue I must download VLC player. I had VLC before I ever heard of Foscam. Still no audio. When I sign onto my IP camera by inputting the IP address, the user name, and the encryption password, I can then view the camera. At the bottom, it has a URL that says (audio). Clicking this does only one thing - it tells me that I need a plug in to have audio support. The plugin is the VLC player. So I am back at square one. Please help.

I just went to the IP address to access my camera's software; however, there is no mention of audio settings or anything called ADPCM. The included software (CD) does not work with 10.8 - a fact left out by the manufacturer

  • How do I move an App Store app to a user's application folder?

I have set up my mom with an older Macbook Pro of mine to save her from the evils of the PC. I set up two users, one for her and one for me; hers is uber simple (big icons, only the essentials in the doc) mine is crazy complicated. We share apps, of course, which was fine until I realized she is going to want to download Mah Jongg game apps and the like from the App Store, and I would LOVE it if I didn't have to have all that cluttering up the root Applications folder.
I already tried to move one app from root to her user's Applications folder and all that moved was an alias, the app stayed at root. So how does one move these things? Is there a way via the finder? Can I use terminal (and if so could someone spell out the command for me?)
    Thanks in advance.

You might want to rethink moving the apps.
First the App Store knows what's installed by looking in the Applications folder. If the app is not there but is listed as purchased it will be prompting you to download it constantly.
Second Lion has really locked down the permissions on the Applications folder, even Admins (as you're discovered) have to jump through hoops to change stuff around. You'll need to change permissions on the folder at least to get the apps out. It will be a pain in the long run.
Again weigh the inconvenience of having an extra few apps in the Applications folder against what I described above.
    regards

All new apps I've installed appear as appname.app in the Applications folder on the dock.
I want these to appear with just the app name, not the extension, but where can I change the shortcut name?

  • Acrobat XI Pro not listed under applications after installation

    Mac OS: 10.9.1
    Processor: Intel Core i7 2.3GHz
After installed Acrobat XI Pro, it is displayed in the Creative Cloud Desktop as "Up to date"
But not listed under "Applications" folder.
Could not find Acrobat XI Pro anywhere in the computer.
When you choose "Open with" option for pdf file, not displays Acrobat XI Pro.
Instead it displays the older version Acrobat Pro 9.
Someone please help to fix this.

So, I completed all the steps with no luck. Uninstalled CC and all its components, ran the cleaner, etc. When I reinstalled a fresh version of the Creative Cloud Desktop App, it showed as if Acrobat XI Pro is already installed - see attached screen shot. Any other suggestions?

  • Overlapping icons in Applications Folder Dock icon

I recently upgraded to a MBP Retina running 10.8.3 Mountain Lion.
Deciding to re-install apps and cleanup old unused stuff, I didn't use the Migration Assistant.
I opened Finder and dragged the Applications folder to the Dock.  When I did so, the preference was to display as Stack.  At first, it was showing the Mac App Store icon as it was the first app listed in the folder.  When I installed Adium.app, Adium became the first app listed in the folder and now I have the Adium "duck" icon overlapping the blue Mac App Store icon.
If I rename Adium.app to Badium.app, the Mac App Store is the icon displayed on the Dock. If I rename Adium.app to anything alphabetically before App Store, they overlap.  I've tried dragging the Applications folder off the Dock and re-adding it, running the command "killall Dock" from Terminal, logging out and back in, and even rebooting.  Deleting the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist doesn't fix it.
How do I get the folder to display the first app instead of overlapping or having to have the folder displayed as a "Folder"?

Ok - I may not have phrased my question correctly.
I have right-clicked on the icon and toggled between Stack and Folder.  Folder displays an ugly blue folder w/ the App Icon.  Stack displays Adium overlapping the Mac App Store.  Maybe the other apps icons are present but just obscured by the blue circular App Store icon.
I don't want overlapping, or "stacked" icons.  I want the old Lion (10.7.x) style of showing the first icon in your Applications folder without "stacking" all the other apps behind it.

  • How to move/remove Apple apps from the Appliactions folder?

    Hello,
I had recently updated  to Lion and now I'm unable to move any applications installed by Lion (eg. iTunes, Launchpad even chess etc..) in the Applications or utilities folders to any other folder. I receive an error:
"  "x.app" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by Mac OS X"
Before  Lion I used to organize my apps into to different folders, for example I had different folders for things like Games, System, Office, Multimedia software. And I only kept a few apps in the applications folder itself. I can now only do that with third-party apps now. And both my App and Utilities folders are cluttered with applications which I seldom or never use.
    Thanks, for any assistance.

In order for any of the Apple software to be properly upgraded or updated it must remain in the HD/Applications folder.
If you move them around or hide them in other folders you're just asking for trouble.

  • Installed update of Firefox, but cannot drag into applications folder, it indicates that "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges", so how can I complete the install?

I try to drag the app into the applications folder where an old app of firefox exists and it asks me if I want to replace it and after i say yes it gives me the operation cannot be completed message.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Changing multiple file permissions - Applications folder

After using migration assistant in Snow Leopard and then changing the username of my primary user, all third party apps in my Applications folder require me to enter the admin password when moving, updating with Sparkle, etc. They don't seem to have a primary owner.
I saw the steps outlined here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778969 for changing permissions on multiple files but I'm wary of doing this on the Applications folder.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I went through files individually and i'm still getting messed up permissions all over the place. Thanks!

DO NOT use "apply to enclosed items" on the main Applications folder! Do not use it on any system created folders. they often have hidden ACLs and using this button would propagate the ACLs to everything inside. this is the case for the main Applications folder. there is no easy way to do what you want because Apple changed the permissions structure in Snow leopard and the default applications no longer have read+write access by admin users by default. I would suggest you don't mess with permissions on Applications. if you ever need to update a 3rd party application simply delete the existing copy in /Applications and put the new one in. it will have correct permissions.
