No apps synced on my iTunes

This is complicated - so to make a long story short, my brother got his 4th gen iPod touch replaced due to issues. When we got his new one, we tried syncing it with his iTunes but no apps showed up at all, not even a tab on the left hand side of the iTunes. So he pretty much lost all his apps. There were lots, too. The main reason he wanted an iPod touch was for apps. So he's irritated. Why did this happen? I'm guessing his old ipod for some reason never synced apps but why? And is there any way to recover all the lost apps?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • Apps Sync Greyed

I have iTunes 10 and an iPhone 3G. I am running Microsoft XP with sp3 The apps sync page in iTunes is greyed out and will not allow me to do anything. I have downloaded a new app (NavFree) but can't install it to my phone and the screens shown on iTunes no longer allow me to move the icons about. Basicaly the screen is inactive. HELP

Here's the really terrifying thing about your problem--once you agree to "wipe out" your existing apps with the ones "on this iTunes", it'll immediately ask you if you'd like to install found apps on your phone that the iTunes currently doesn't have. In other words, they make you take a leap of faith before you find out it's all good in the 'hood.
We just got a new Macbook and got the same message--but we backed up the 3GS on an existing iTunes on an old computer we were using just to play it safe, and went with the advice knowing we'd still have a backup file if it didn't work.
Still, it's absolutely horrible that the program insists it'll wipe your files, only to simply re-install them a fraction of a second later once you say "yes".
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes says I have apps sync'd on my iPod that don't show up...

When I sync my iPod, iTunes' window of my iPod shows that I have about 6 more apps on it than do actually show up.    Please see attached screencaps.  The first one is from the iTunes window for my iPod and the second is a screencap from my actual iPod.  You can see that the first 3 apps are the same, but then there are the ones that don't appear on my iPod even though iTunes indicates that they are.
Any thoughts on this and how to rectify would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance...

Tthe thing is when i just went to go manually start dowmloading a few of the songs that i knew i already bought , itunes is making me pay forthem again.  Its not saying instal like it usuall does when you go download something aleady purchased on your itunes account.  I think or thought it might have something to do with the fact that i just changed my apple id name right before i got my new phine but my apps all re-downloaded (manually-no syncing) without making me pay for them again.  i dont want to have to purchase allllll my songs again.  Can someone please help me!!  Itried going back to my old id or signing out of this id and signing in as my old apple id but now it wot even get on that oneits likjeit doesnt exist anymore..   And when i plug my old phone it shows in the itunes everything thats supposed to be there but all that doesnt stay in the itunes when i actually un plug it so when i plug my 5 in to my computer none of the stuff is in the store for me to actually transfer it  I am so good with technology and this has me stumped  please help

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

Reset your iPad and see if that helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • How can I sync my ipad apps to a new itunes?

I recent had to wipe my computer and reinstall itunes. When I connect my ipad to my laptop is asks if I wants to sync with this new itunes library and that all my data will be lost.
Is there anyway to transfer my apps to my existing itunes?

I did but the iTunes library file was corrupted. Is there another file?

  • How do I sync apps from the same iTunes account to an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 4S and keep correct version for each iOS?

I have an old 3G as well as a 4S. Initially I set up a separate iTunes account for the 4S as I was worried I'd lose my old apps for 3G (as older, compatible versions aren't kept in the iTunes store so once they're gone, they're gone...). 3G is set up to sync with iTunes, 4S is inly syncing mail and conatcts through Exchange but hasn't been synced with an iTunes library for the reason above.
Is there a way to sync both phones off the same iTunes account, so I can set up each phone with some music, as well as apps, without iOS 5 versions overwriting the exisitng apps for the 3G?
To complicate things further, I don't want to sync photos, contacts, messages, etc. I just want to avoid having to duplicate all my music and pay for all the apps all over again. Suggestions?
    Cheers

    Hi gail,
Thanks for the quick reply! The music part makes sense, good to know I don't have to duplicate the lot. The big question stillr emains as to whether iTunes can cope with two different iPhones, running different versions of the iOS, and therefore different app versions.
Currently all the apps in iTunes are years old, and many haven't updated in months (years?) because the 3G is running iOS 4.2.1 (and can't be upgraded). Many of these have since been updated in the iTunes store (for the various incarnations of iPhone since) and the old versions that my 3G requires have been replaced.
I'm worried that syncing the 4S running iOS 5, and running the most recent updates for same apps, will cause iTunes to overwrite the old 3G compatible ones when I sync. Unless iTunes is smart enough to know which version of the app is for which OS, without updating the legacy version when I update the apps on the 4S?
You guys shouldn't face that problem, as iPad and iPhone apps don't replace each other (I believe? Not sure about this) as new updates are released for each app, you'd have a copy for each device (for example Evernote for iPad, and Evernote for iPhone). I can't figure out if iTunes can handle keeping separate iPhone versions for Evernote iOS 4.2.1 and Evernote for iOS 5. My gut feeling is no, but I want to amke sure before I lose the legacy versions of each app.
Of course, maybe I'm just paranoid and iTunes is in fact perfectly capable of keeping old and new apps in the same library?
    Cheers

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

  • I purchased a movie, i selected it to sync, i watched itunes copy to my ipod, it shows up in itunes under "on this ipod", but does not appear on ipod under videos app.

    to recap:
i purhased a movie (SD version of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone) through the itunes store.
in itunes, under my ipod, i checked next to movie to indicate that i wanted it to sync
in itunes, when i checked the movie, the amount of space for video grew, as expected
    i sync'ed my ipod,
i watched the progress bar as itunes told me it was copying the movie
    no errors were reported
in itunes, under the "On this iPod" the movie says it's there
    in itunes
on my ipod, under video, i do not see the movie
when i search my ipod for "harry" nothing come up
kinda feeling like i just threw $9.99 in the trash.

  • Sync ends in iTunes with certain apps, but iPhone still says syncing

[I'm using the 3.0 version of the software, haven't yet upgraded to 3.1]
The other day, while traveling, I hooked my iPhone up to my laptop computer for the first time. (I normally use my home "desktop" PC.) It did a sync which caused about 2/3 of my applications to disappear.
When I got home, I reconnected the iPhone to my main PC, and iTunes said the PC was not authorized, so I authorized it for the second time (and now it says I have authorized 4 computers when I've only authorized 3.)
When trying to sync back the applications I've had in the past to the phone, there are certain applications (including Google Earth, Finger Piano Lite, ETrade Mobile Pro, and a couple of others) which cause the sync to end part way through the installation (and the app does not show up on the phone) and cause the iPhone to no longer be recognized by the iTunes software (the iPhone icon disappears from the column) until I disconnect and reconnect the phone. When the sync ends in iTunes, the iPhone still says "Sync in Progress" even though it's not syncing.
At one point, many of my icons also got a white blank stripe across about the top 1/4 of the icons. I deleted them from the iPhone and resynced and it seemed to get rid of that problem.
When I right-click on the iPhone icon in iTunes and run diagnostics, iTunes crashes completely.
I have tried resetting the iPhone by holding down the two buttons at the same time, but the problem persists even after restarting after that reset.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
With the symptoms you described, try the step in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode and If you see two "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" entries with exclamation marks on them.  Then select the appropriate operating system that you are using.
