  • Can connect with Macs but not PCs - iChat 2.1 OSX 10.3.9

    Hi, I am having problems connecting to PCs but can connect to other Macs fine. I have ploughed through as much of the correspondance on here as I can find but with no luck. Would I be right in assuming that if I can connect OK to another Mac (with .mac name or AIM name) my settings should be OK?
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike
    Try me and see, defcom1 .mac account.
    Has the PC side-up ok, see for set-up http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html#xp they must be using AIM5.9 and not AIM Triton

  • Bluetooth connection with Mac Book Pro

    How do I set up a Bluetooth connection with my Mac Book Pro?

    I'm trying to set up the Blue Tooth connection so I can use internet tethering from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I have already set up the USB option and that works well on my Rogers network. I've achieved Bluetooth paring between the iPhone and MacBook, but I can't get them to connect.
    I'm using Snow Leopard, if that makes any difference.
    Any ideas?

  • How to get audio device information connected with MAC system?

    I want to know the samplerate (the number of samples per second) supported by the device connected with the MAC system.
    I am also pasting the code as below where I need that info.
    // Using PCM 44.1 kHz, 16 bit signed,stereo.
              AudioFormat audioFormat = new AudioFormat(AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED,  //     the audio encoding technique
              44100.0F,// sampleRate           the number of samples per second
              16,      // sampleSizeInBits the number of bits in each sample
              2,       // channels           the number of channels (1 for mono, 2 for stereo, and so on)
              4,       // frameSize           the number of bytes in each frame
              44100.0F,// frameRate          the number of frames per second
              false);  // bigEndian          indicates whether the data for a single sample is stored in big-endian byte order (<code>false</code> means little-endian)

    Can you sugget something in that area.That's not an issue that's specific to MAC, it'd be specific to any system with a limited number of supported capture formats.
    I've handled this problem in the past by generating an array full of all of the AudioFormat objects I'd consider acceptable, and I just iterate through them until I can find a TargetDataline that supports it.
    TargetDataLine tdl = null;
    /* Write your own code to get an array of acceptable formats here */
    AudioFormat formats[] = JavaSoundFormats.getFormatList();
    for (AudioFormat format : formats) {
        DataLine.Info dlinfo = new DataLine.Info(TargetDataLine.class,
                                                 format);
            if (AudioSystem.isLineSupported(dlinfo)) {
                try {
                    audio_in_format = format;
                    tdl = (TargetDataLine)AudioSystem.getLine(dlinfo);
                    break;
                catch(LineUnavailableException e) {
                    // No need to do anything
    /* If we don't have a targetdataoutput object, give up */
    if (tdl == null) {
        System.err.println("No TargetDataLines found!");
        System.exit(1);

  • Changed to secure - can connect with mac but not pc running vista

    I changed my wrt54gs from unsecured to secure by changing the wireless > wireless security > to security mode: WPA personal, the wpa algorithms is set to TKIP, i set up a password in the shared key area and the group key is set to 3600.  I saved the changes and now i can connect with the password with a macbook pro as well as with a ipod touch but i cant connect with a laptop running windows vista.  I would get an error saying unable to connect, funny thing is though  i am connect (and it is the correct router, not a neighbors) but it says connected with limited access. I tried to run diagnostics and repair but to no avail.  Any thoughts on what to door is limited access ok?
    thanks,
    Dave

    Try this :
    Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
    Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
    It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

    Ciao.
    Your response is thoughtful and deserves discussion. Moreover, it seems we're in agreement on several issues - but not this one.
    Look through my questions and answers. I have no interest in points or "helpful" ratings. But it's perfectly reasonble and consistent with Apple Support criteria to ask if an issue is resolved to the poster's satisfaction, and to encourage further discussion to make sure it's resolved. The original poster's question in this thread wasn't resolved completely, but further dialog encouraged the user to visit the Apple Store, where it will be addessed. The poster was appreciative for the information.
    Ultimately, it's up to Apple to discern whether my comments are incongruous with Apple's Support Use Agreement. I don't see any incongruity.

  • Officejet not able to connect with MAC wirelessly but will connect to W7 PC

    I have a 6700 Office jet and have it setup to print wirelessly with a W7 PC. The Mac will not connect to the printer wirelessly but will print via usb connection. Any hints?

    Hi jecp,
    It sounds like the router is not broadcasting the Bonjour protocol. The Mac uses Bonjour and the Windows uses DHCP. You may need to contact the Internet Service Provider (IPS), but you can try the steps below, I have seen success with a simple reboot.
    Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable
    Shut down the Mac, Click the Apple Icon and select Shut Down
    Leave the router on and unplug the power cable, do not press any buttons
    After one full minute, plug the router back in and wait for the lights to illuminate again and stedily
    Plug the printer back in and wait for the wireless light to become solid
    Turn the computer back on
    Now try to add the printer to the Print and Scan in System Preferences.
    Please let me know if this resolves the issue. I am happy to provide additional assistance if necessary.

  • How to find which port on the switch that it connected with Mac address?

    Hi,
    I am trying to find which port of the switches it connected to thru mac-address?
    I am able to get the mac-address from the ip address when i do
    "show ip dhcp binding snooping" at the core switch.
    But when I move on to the Edge switch to check which PC with this Mac address connected to the port,i returned with no result.(onli trunk port result)
    I use sh ip arp | inc 000d.60cb.445d
    but didn't give me which port it connected to.
    How to solve this problem?
    thanks!
    KL

    Hi KL,
    If you are already on the edge switch you can run a command "sh mac-address-table address " and it will give you the port number.
    Incase you get a port which is a trunk port that means the end device does not exist on this switch and exist on some downstream switch. So you can just find out the ip address of the downstream switch with "sh cdp neigh detail" command and connect to that downstream switch and then again issue the command "sh mac-address-table address " and check the port number and follow the above steps till the time you get the switch on whcih end host is connected.
    HTH, if yes please rate the post.

  • No Airport connection with Mac Pro

    I cannot get access to my (password protected) WLAN modem with my Mac Pro. I have to go via Ethernet through my Powerbook. It only works when I set the modem to require no password for Internet access, once WPA is enabled, the Mac Pro Airport connection fails even though it "sees" the network alright.
    What am I to do? Any settings in the DSL modem properties perhaps?
    Most grateful for answers!

    That sounds like progress!
    WEP / WPA and WPA2 all use a numerical (hexadecimal) key.
    You give the software a readable phrase - and it turns the phrase into the number. But sometimes the same phrase becomes a different number.
    Try this. Turn on WPA.
    On your wireless-connected-Powerbook. Go to the network list. Click edit - and click show password.
    You'll see the HEX version of the passphrase. $afbc0232...
    Try THAT number on the Mac Pro.

  • FIOS Westell 9100 EM router connection with Mac

    I have 3 Macs, two of which run the latest OS, 10.5, the other runs 10.4.  The oldest machine always connects flawlessly to the router, while the two newer ones often take repeated attempts to connect after I wake them from sleep, with "Invalid Password" or "Connection Timeout" appearing on the screen. Sometimes, the newer machines do connect right away, other times it takes five or six attempts.  The settings seem to be the same on the newer machines as on the 10.4 Mac.  Can't figure out why this is so.  Any thoughts?

    I have a very similar problem.  I have an imac and a macbook pro.  Both frequently lose internet connection after coming from sleep mode.  Often I have to restart my computers in order to restore internet connection.  I am on my second westell 911 router and have the same problem.

  • WRT160N V.3 slow connection with MAC

    I am having connection issues with my MAC.  Very slooooooow.
    It seemed to be working properly at first but now it's slowed down to a crawl.
    When I hardwire myself to the router it's fine.
    Signal strength is excellent.
    Would someone please help me figure out what is wrong?
    Please tell me what info you need and I will provide it for you.
    Thx,
    -Karol

    Try to upgrade your router's firmware
    Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
    Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
    In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
    Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Not possible to connect with Mac OS X v10.6.2 via VPN to smb://nameserver

    Hi al,
    I have a MacBook Pro. At the company I can connect my MacBook Pro without problems via the LAN to the company servers by using smb://nameserver
    At home I use a VPN connection to connect my MacBook Pro to the LAN at the company.
    The VPN connection between home and company is working well, because I can “run” web-based applications, using htpp://xxxx.xx via Safari.
    But the connection to the smb://nameserver is not working (in the past it worked well!) and I get the following message from Mac OS X : “Connection failed. The server “nameserver” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, an then try again.”
    If I run, at home, the program “Parallel Desktops” I can make a VPN connection via Windows Vista, and connect to the same servers without problem.
    Is there anybody who can help me?

    Hi
    If you're trying to connect using the server's name you have to know which host server to use to resolve the name. If you don't know simply use its IP address:
    eg: instead of: smb://servername
    use: smb://IPaddress (this would be the private non-routable IP address)
    This should work? Depending which VPN Method you're using to Tunnel to the host network and how the host network is configed it may not do name resolution that well.
    If it used to work in the past it may have been because a static entry for the host network's DNS Server was placed in your Network Preferences Pane? Or if your connection was via PPTP or L2TP appropriate LAN settings were assigned once the connection was made to the host site? In other words a set of IP addresses matching the host site's LAN IP topology.
    Perhaps the current method you're using now of building the VPN Tunnel is via IPSec IKE/ISKAMP? In which case you may have to 'tell' your remote network which DNS Server to use at the host site for name resolution.
    A possible reason why it 'works' for the Windows side is because name resolution - most of the time - gets by without using fully qualifiable domain names. For example pinging an IP address in DOS to find a name works (most of the time) if you simply supply just the server name. This is not necessarily the case on the mac.

My Imac desktop on the other hand has no problem at all and they are both within the same distance from the router approximately 8 feet. Any suggetions anyone please?
