No arrow in sent mail

I've notice that if I have a reply draft saved in the Draft box and then send it no little arrow a appears beside the original message in the In Box to indicate a reply has been sent. The arrow appears on received messages that aren't saved in the Draft box. I believe they ARE sent, I've got replies back that quote them, but it's a little disturbing to not see that arrow reassuring me the reply is sent. Is this a bug?

Replying to the message and then saving it as a draft breaks the link to the original message only when you close the draft message in order to edit it and send later. If you save it as a draft and continue to edit and then send without closing it, the link to the original message is maintained. In either case the messages are sent because copies are present in the Sent items folder. The fact that linkage to the original message is lost seems to me to be a deficiency.
Might be one to provide feedback on.

  • Can't see sent mail using little arrow icon

Not sure when this started but when I click next to a mail message to see what I replied, the little icon with the arrow now fails to bring up the sent mail. This is on my mac laptop. It works fine on my MacPro. I have deleted the plist for mail and set everything up again but that didn't do the trick. I rebuilt the mail box and that didn't work either. I went to a fairly recent backup and replaced the plist, but again, nothing. I've seen other threads about this problem, but no solutions. Anyone have any good ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I would recommend looking at the following knowledge base article that explains this feature.

  • In mail when i send email it does not show curved arrow in sent column

    Mac osx 10.7.5, 27" imac i3, 8gb 1333 mhz ddr3
in mail when i use the reply button the curved arrow in sent column appears intermittently.
prior to upgrading system from snow leopard (3 months ago) it worked normally.
after installing lion it continued to work normally but now it occurs constantly.
I have opened & quit  Mail, restarted the mac several times using both shut down & restart commands, and unplugged the power cord from the mac.

No changes have been made and no problem with extensions has interfered with the URL appearing in Firefox before. Only with the last few new versions of Firefox has this cropped up. Also, the link opens correctly - it just doesn't display the URL in the address bar, instead it just reads (in gray) "Search or enter address." How could another extension interfere if Firefox is the sole program associated with .htm, .html files?

  • Maintain Quick link b/w received & sent mail intact on archive & re-import

Is there a way to archive a mail account (Inbox and Sent) and re-import the folders inbox and sent mail in a way that the quicklink between mail received and mail sent/forward remain intact?
Because simply moving the inbox box and sent box to folders on OnMyMac results in the loss of this quicklink. That is I can see the Reversed arrow - but it says the sent message has been moved and not traceable.

Well, if it is possible, here's how...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
With those files moved to a safe place, unzip them with a double click.
Then open Mil and use the Import function.

  • Sent mail not syncing with MBP Mail from iPad

I just setup one of my email accounts with IMAP on my iPad and MBP to see how they will work together. When i reply to an email from the iPad it will show the little reply arrow in Mail on my MBP but will not show the message anywhere. Not in the top of the conversation or in any sent mail folder.
How can I get it to sync the sent mail?
    Any help is appreciated!

Please disregard this post.  I've found the answer to my own question!

  • "sent" mail doesn't show up, missing reply emails, sudden "deleted" emails

I have been hving some problems with Mail recently, three issues have become major Pains in the ***:
    1. Just about every 3 or 4 emails that I send from my .mac account seem to go through but a copy or receipt of them don't show up in the "sent" mail folder/area.
    2. If I reply to an email in my in box, it will show the little "you replied to this email arrow icon" but when I click on the arrow, it will say that the message "has been deleted or missing"
    3. Lastly every 3-4 emails - As I am writing the note a window will pop up and say that the "email cannot be saved" but allows me to click "OK" and then continue typing the note and will sent it just fine.
Is there a master reset on Mail or can I reinstall just the Mail program ? ( i really don't want to do that) I ran disk utility and my drive seems to be fine, the permissions are good.
    any help would be great.
    thanks.

    MBP 15" 1.83GHz core duo 1.5GBramm   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm having the same problem, although it is not with a .mac account, it is with IMAP accounts, which to the best of my knowledge is the server type used by .mac.
The weird part about all of this is that I use several e-mail accounts on my computer... one of them is a POP3, the rest are IMAP. Historically every message I've sent, regardless of the account, has been stored in the Sent folder, now only mail being sent from the POP3 account is being stored.
After unchecking the feature to store sent mail on the server for one of the IMAP accounts and sending a test message from IMAP address to POP3 address everything seemed to be working fine.... but I don't like that I had to do that. One of the reasons I use IMAP is so that I don't have to worry about what e-mails are stored where, because I use multiple computers.... but once I start telling my portable Macbook to no longer store outgoing messages on the server.... that could become a problem for me.
I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes several times to no avail. (Although I'm not entirely sure what rebuild does, I thought it'd be worth a shot)
And yes, my network card settings are just fine.
It might be worth noting that I've done a substantial amount of software updates over the past few days, and if I knew how to get you a list of those, I would.

  • Sent mail does not synch

    Hi
I use Mac Mail with OS 10.5.8 on my iMac and 10.6.4 on my MacBook; I have a couple of IMAP accounts. On both machines the settings are the same, but my sent mail only appears on the machine from which is it sent, and there is no way I can get it to sync. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Many thanks!
    Steve

In the mail app on the left side, you should be able to see the folders that belong to each IMAP account. If you flip down the triangle, you will see its subfolders. If using gmail, for example, flipping down will show the inbox, sent mail, trash, etc. You need to click on the sent mail folder and from the mailbox menu, choose "Use this mailbox for... Sent Mail". This will tell mail to use the server's sent mail folder instead of keeping sent mail only on the local machine. I hope that helps. I think this works with multiple IMAP accounts, (it will make a pull-down arrow next to the sent mail). Good luck, I hope that helps.

  • Sent mail in wrong folder

I use my Virgin Media mailboxes on two devices: a Windows 8 PC using Windows Mail and an iPad, both configured to use IMAP.  The messages I send from the PC show up in the "Sent Mail" folder on both devices but the messages sent from the iPad show up as "Sent" on the iPad but in the "Sent Messages" folder on the PC.  How can I change this so that all sent messages from both devices show up in the "Sent Mail" folder?
I'd be very grateful for any help.

I received a helpful reply on the Virgin Media forum which solved this problem.  If anyone else has the same problem, you need to make the following change on the iPad.
    Settings
    Mail etc.
    select account
    click Account
scroll down to Advanced and click
click Sent Mailbox and choose Sent Mail

  • Sent mail going to inbox, all replies as separate emails

downloaded thunderbird to new computer. three big problems: 1 - address book has been lost 2 - all sent mail is going both to sent mail folder ans also to inbox 3 - all replies and conversations are showing up as separate emails instead of being part of one email thread. i.e., it is a total mess. I have configured the settings correctly I believe. what is going on?

Hmmmm...... perhaps if you took the time to read instructions.
Did you save the add-on XPI file and install it in Thunderbird like the instructions said. Or try and install it in Firefox, get the inevitable failure and complain here that it is not compatible. The web site offers instructions. Perhaps if you read these. http://chrisramsden.vfast.co.uk/3_How_to_install_Add-ons_in_Thunderbird.html That add-on works with the current version.
"You don't recall any read only" Right click any file you copied off the DVD. Select properties and there you have a read only flag.
Do you have anti virus software running? Disable any part of it involving SPAM, TRASH Phishing and email.

  • Iphone 3, sync'd with Exchange, sent mail goes to draft folder

Sent Mail (Exchange Account), is going to the drafts folder

NOTE: This also applies to Exchange 2010
You may want to check that you are getting Event ID 15002 or 15003 logged to the Application event log first before making this change.
    See this
    ExchangeServerPro article for reference.
    Also, see this
Krudler blog post for shortened version.
Please ensure if you are modifying the
"PercentageDatabaseDiskSpaceUsedHighThreshold" value in the EdgeTransport.exe.config file, you should take into consideration the percentage value notified in the Event Log.
    See this
MS Technet article for more technical information.
I had the same error as Shimon1 when using the MailFlow Tool in Exchange, however I did not have event 15002 in my Application Event Log. I resolved this problem by:
Modify the TCP/IP network protocol settings using the following commands
netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled
I noticed when viewing individual messages in the queue in Exchange Management Console Queue Viewer, they had this message:
"Error: 4.3.2 432 STOREDRV.Deliver; recipient thread limit exceeded"
This was resolved with the help of this
MS blog on Exchange SP1 improvements.
I made the following addition to the EdgeTransport.exe.config file.
        <add key="RecipientThreadLimit" value="2" />
        <add key="MaxMailboxDeliveryPerMdbConnections" value="3" />

  • Mutt/Offlineimap Sent mail is showing up in Gmail Inbox

    Hi,
I am just starting my journey with mutt and quite like the interface thus far but I am having trouble with sent emails showing up in my Gmail inbox.  It is a little annoying to always have my sent emails appear as unread in my inbox.  In my search for a solution I have found that this behavior sometimes occurs if you have Gmail filters that are set to never send to spam, I checked and do not have any such filters.  This could also happen if I had $record set, but I have specifically unset record.  My muttrc and offlineimaprc are as follows (I used several tutorial sites to help create these) (I have hashed out some personal details):
    muttrc

    set folder = ~/.mail # mailbox location

I use msmtp to send the emails (and they do send) but as far as I know that program should have nothing to do with my folder labeling.
What happens exactly:  When in mutt, I press 'm' and compose an email and send with 'y'.  Oddly enough, the email appears in my gmail inbox (the webmail) even before I sync mutt with offlineimap (I don't automatically sync).  Once I sync, I see the email in both my sent mail and inbox.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

You have unset the record variable.

  • How to update the sent mail using SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1

I have a requirement to update/ append the sent mail like a trail.Since i am sending mails using SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1, how can i update new contents to sent mails using this RFC???Please help me.

you may have to store content of each time mail send then only, you can send with history.

  • Mail indexing and lost sent mail

since yesterday, mail has been repeatedly indexing, always getting stuck on one particular email and taking over 1/2 an hour each time before allowing access to the program. Finally, I was able to run a search and delete the offending email before the indexing hung. I assumed this would resolve the problem. But no. It still gets stuck at the exact same point.
On the next pass I selected rebuild mailbox on the sent mailbox as this is where the particular email was. Now all the sent mail foir that account is gone. Yet indexing still reports as stuck on the very same email as before.
How can I get my sent mail back? How can I stop this endless indexing?
    G4/400, G4/dual 867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I am having same/similar problem with Mail 1.3.11 on 10.3.9. If I even open the Sent Mail box I just get the text that Mail is 'sorting messages' and in the right of the bar I get the spinning segmental timer but nothing happens. It says I have 400+ messages in the Sent folder but never lists them.
I cannot quit Mail either and have to Force Quit all the time. Sorry to say that I have started using Thunderbird with no problems but Mac Mail is my default mail app.
I click the segmental timer in top right of bar and up comes a list of active processes that are currently running. I click the big red Stop icons on this list but this doesn't stop them - things just grind to a halt. Mail doesn't quit/hang but just freezes.
    Any ideas very greatly welcomed!

  • How do I display multiple recipients in the Sent Mail list view???

In the list of sent mails, only one name (the first recipient) shows up in the "to" column. I would like to show as many names as there is room for, and not have to open the message itself to see multiple intended recipients.
Other email clients do this as the default, but in Mail I just can't find the setting for how many names to display in that column.
    Help!!!!

    Terence,
Thanks for the information.  Although this allowed me to open multiple windows, they are all show in a format too small (large thumb nails) to use.  I'm looking for a way to do a "split-window" function where two windows are shown (at the same time) larger enough to move between the windows and perform functions such as copy, paste, edit, or drag data from one to the other.
    Thanks
