"No attempts to start the service" fingerprint reader error caused by Camera Mute service.

Since installing the latest Thinkvantage Fingerprint Reader update I've been having the problem that my system stalls at the login screen with the error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot.
After about 30 seconds the problem goes away and I can log on using the fingerprint reader as normal.
I tried turning off all my start-up services in msconfig.exe and turning them on one by one, and discovered that for some reason the Lenovo Camera Mute service is the one causing the problem. As long as that service is set to not start at boot, I don't have the problem with the fingerprint reader at logon.
Odd. I thought someone else might find that information useful.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W530 with Windows 7 Pro.

Do you have "RapidBoot Shield" software installed on your computer? If so, would you please try uninstalling it and see if you still have this problem? RapidBoot Shield is known to cause all kinds of startup problems like this.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).

After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
(2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)

The iPhone uses a four digit, not a six digit PIN. So I guess you mean you had to enter a PIN for some other application.

Since your first sentence discussed an iPhone 5 and this one an iPhone 5S, I guess you are thinking about buying a 5S and wondering if it reads the PIN. But since the PIN is for some other application, no it does not.

I have recently started getting this error when trying to Hot Sync my device:

The device is a Symbol scanner with Palm OS v4.17. It is connected to my computer with a serial cable. The only relatively recent changes I can think of to my system are:
1. Installed a Borland software product (StarTeam) that is newer than my Palm software.
2. Installed MS Office 2007.

I would have to recommend you contact your vender where you got the scanner from. If a device got this error that we support we would hard reset the device and rename the backup folder under the username for hotsync. With this device I wouldn't know where to start.

That can happen if the updater wasn't able to update (replace) all the files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

T420 win7 64 - fingerprint reader error, "The dependency service or group failed to start"

Hi,
On my T420 with Win7 64 bit, when I try to enroll a fingerprint I receive the error message "The dependency service or group failed to start".
I get the error code E7210001 with two description, "The dependency service or group failed to start" and "An internal error occurred (bpwb: bp-wb-dpi-ed-wbebu(8007042c))."
Anyone have any idea how to get rid of this error message and be able again to use my fingerprint reader? What services should I check in order to have fingerprint working?

Terminal Service - enable the "Start the following program at logon" cause my remote printer won't redirected?

After I enable the "Start the following program at logon" on my User account windows 2003 Server R2 cause my remote printer won't redirected when the Remote User is logon to the Server, I don't know why? I checked the Terminal Services Configuration already
and everything is fine.
And for you information, If I disable the "Start the following program at logon", the printer is redirected again, did I miss something in here?

I suspect that this application conflicts with Terminal printer redirection, whether all applications using "Start the following program at logon" option have this
issue or not. You may try another application to see if the issue is gone.
If your client PC is Windows XP, you may need install the Remote Desktop Connection 7.

way back we had the same problem and the reason was, that the path
names with the server instances were to long
(/opt/wlsroot/wlsInstances/axsExpert.SwissAir/S_243_7001 ->
/opt/wlsroot/wlsInstances/axsExpert.SAir/S_243_7001). But this was
with WLS 5.1 SP8.

Can't start ThinkPad from fingerprint reader

did I miss a setting? has the fingerprint manager no other options, than to authenticate the fingers? no menus at all?

ISTR that this feature isn't available any more. Something about Apple buying the reader manufacturer - and their patents - and refusing to supply the rest of the industry. Readers available to Lenovo just can't do a power on.

MBP (Mid-2012) Shuts Down While Attempting to Start Up (HardDrive I/O Error)

Hey guys,
I've been having some issues with my mid-2012 MBP (8 GB's RAM, 750 GB HardDrive). It has the latest version of OS X Yosemite installed.
About a month ago, I turned on my MBP, typed in my password and it began loading the operating system. This usually take 30-45 seconds or so for the loading bar to fill up and the desktop to show. And then maybe another minute or two once the desktop is visible for the "startup process" to finish in the background so I can open apps quickly and efficiently.
However, this time, the Macbook took about 10 minutes, got halfway done and I was forced to give it a hard shutdown. I then tried unsuccessfully to start the system again and each time it wouldn't load past a certain point. It then miraculously started working after letting it cool for a few hours.
Fast fwd a month later, my computer seemed much slower than usual. I always was checking activity monitor and my file cache was taking up 4gb of ram at times. My computer would slow down to the point where I had to give it a hard restart often.
Then last week, I started the computer, typed in my password and it started to load. After a minute of trying to load, it shuts off. It no longer loads to the desktop, it simply shuts down after every attempt. So I ran some diagnostics.
While doing the Single-User Mode...it spit back out that I have a HardDrive I/O Error. Also, my hard drive is not mounted when I run disk utility.
All my files are backup online and on external HD. Do you think I need a new internal hard drive? Suggestions?

A hard drive I/O error means that the hard drive is completely damaged and cannot be used anymore, so you need a new hard drive. As you have a backup, you will not lose any data.
It is up to you to replace the hard drive yourself or to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. The price difference is not very high, but if you do it yourself, you can choose the hard drive you want to install (7200 rpm hard drives will give you a bit more performance). If you have decided to do this yourself, buy the hard drive at OWC or Crucial.
After getting the new hard drive, use OS X Recovery (hold Command, Alt and R keys while your Mac is starting up) to restore the backup.
