No audio, "additional software needed" - yes, but what?

I'm trying to play an .avi file, and there is no sound. QT warns me that "additional software is needed," and links to an Apple download page for various additional codecs/plug-ins. But it doesn't tell me what I need, so I have no idea what to get! Big help.
I've installed Xvid and Divx, the only two I've heard of, and neither have an impact.
How do I figure out what I need to get the sound out of this file?

If you are simply using a trial and error approach and randomly installing components, the Perian would probably be a better choice since its component package supports most codecs commonly used in the AVI wrapper. (If you install it, read the section covering which codecs that may create conflicts.)
How do I figure out what I need to get the sound out of this file?
The normal approach is to check the "Inspector" or 'Info" windows to determine what codecs were used to create the file. In this case, you would check to see what codec was used to compress the audio content.

I can see that the full charge capacity is too small for a Mac battery or, at least, for a recent Mac. However, I think that OS X is displaying that you have check the battery because its capacity has decreased a lot.
In this case, you can continue using the MacBook Pro until the battery stops working at all or because it doesn't meet your requirements of using the battery. If you can't afford a new battery, wait until you can change your battery

Please let me know what download I need and where it's located for my Windows ME operating system? I did visit an Apple store in Santa Monica, Calif and they had no idea...
Any thoughts? Would you recommend any software updates as well or just let it be?

You might try adding Perian. It can help QT play a with a wide variety of formats.

Google 'Perian' and 'Flip4Mac' — these are the extensions that will make QT play other file formats.
However, a simpler solution is just to abandon QT in favour of the free, open-source player VLC, which plays just about everything natively without further downloads.

If you have an HDMI connection on your computer, it is most likely an output, it won't recieve a signal unless it's on a video capture card. Recording to the PC could be a difficlut task. HDMI is encrypted to keep you from copying but there are ways to do it. It would also depend on what content you intended on recording. If it's movies you have purchased or rented, it would be illegal.

I use RoboHelp HTML 6 & 8 for developing online manuals for our government business. We are currently exploring eLearning options for our training needs, and I am considering the idea of implementing Captivate features (PP slides, simulations, animations) directly into the manuals. We would not need the collaborative/review aspects of Captivate, so I believe we wouldn't need to purchase Adobe Air additionally. However, would anyone be willing to give me the lowdown on what additional software either I would need as a developer, or end-users would need (Adobe Flash, I assume) if we decided on Captivate? Would we need addtional software (Connect Pro/ LMS) to publish the Captivate content?
I have conducted an extensive online search and explored the forum threads with some success, but there is a lot of convoluted information out there!

Speaking as one who regularly combines Captivate and RoboHelp...
Unless you really want some functionality that Captivate alone simply does not provide, you really shouldn't need any additional software whatsoever. You record the eLearning bits in Captivate, then you use that content in your RoboHelp projects.
Are you seeking to host things in a Learning Management System (LMS)? If so, you probably should abandon the thought of RoboHelp, as it serves a bit of the functionality the LMS would provide.
Note that AIR is a functionality similar to the Flash Player or the PDF Reader. It is free for the taking by the end user. There is nothing one would need to purchase. Now if you want to *AUTHOR* something in AIR, that's a different story. RoboHelp HTML version 8 will produce an AIRHelp output. But it sounds to me that you may be somewhat unfamiliar with what AIR gives you. So here's the skinny.
If you were to produce AIRHelp output from RoboHelp, you end up with a .AIR file that each of your end users must *INSTALL* just as they would have to install an application. That's just to view the help. Prior to installing your AIR output, they would also need to first *INSTALL* the AIR viewer. So if they had no AIR capability whatsoever, they would need to perform two different installs. One of the AIR runtime, and a second of your AIR output. Additionally, creating the AIR output will also require a digital certificate. Now RoboHelp will allow you to create one, but it's an untrusted certificate and the end user will be forced to acknowledge whether they wish to continue installing with an untrusted certificate.
Anyhoo, hopefully that helps you with at least some of what you were looking for.

It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

If the videos are .wmv files, VLC from VideoLAN will play them and pretty much any other media format.
BTW, we are not Apple; we're just users like yourself.

I believe there is a technique which uses some similar suggestion to unwittingly tempt the user into installing malware, in order to be able to watch some (usually sexually explicit) video, so be aware of this ruse.
The only things I would download would be Perian that extends Quicktime, available here,
