No audio after OSX upgrade

Audio is no longer working on my MAC Book Pro. The last change made to my computer was an upgrade to the OS. I also noticed that my link to Mozilla was remove from the DOCK after the upgrade. I tried to play a UTube video, audio from another website and music from a disc. I am able to adjust the volume level but no audio out. The beeping noise when adjusting the volume is gone.

Is there a red light on in your earphone jack?

  • Garbled Audio After Lion Upgrade

I've scanned the forums, but the only audio bug I can find seems related, but not identical to mine.  I just installed OS X Lion on my Mac Pro (2x2.66 GHz Dual-Score Zeon with 4GB Ram).  Now all of a suddenly all my audio sounds garbled, almost inverted.  Some musical elements are strong, but human voice is indecipherable.  This is completely strange.
I've tried messing with preferences, and the Audio MIDI Setup like some others have suggested, but to no avail.
    Help!
    Sno

I also have popping/clicking in many forms of sound/video after Lion upgrade.  iMac 2.66GHz Core 2 duo, 6g ram
Putting the computer to sleep and waking it works for a time, but it eventually returns.
A quicker fix which likely does the same thing is to send a kill -9 signal in Terminal.app to the "coreaudiod" process and force it to restart.
    nestor:~ fbhjr$ ps aux | grep coreaudio _coreaudiod    60080   1.0  0.1  2453812   6436   ??  Ss   11:32AM       0:06.78 /usr/sbin/coreaudiod
    nestor:~ fbhjr$ sudo kill -9 60080

  • No audio after Mavericks upgrade

Hi folks!  I updated mavricks yesterday and ever since my macbook pro has "lost" its audio output.  My volume button (finder bar) is greyed out and built-in audio isn't an option under the sound control panel.  It does give the option of digital audio out and my apple tv works still.  Anyone else have this issue?  is there a fix?

On a MACMINI, the experience was caused by the HDMI display.
After upgrading to MAVERICKS the system chose the attached HDMI monitor for the default sound output.
However, there is no sound function on that screen, so it greyed out. In preferences, Sound, Output, it was possible to select the internal speaker to do the output.
    No problem now.
(Note: other suggestions above did not work, plugging headphones in to the mac mini and out etc etc did not help)

  • Lost audio after Vista upgrade on a Satellite Pro A120 PSAC1E

    Hello,
I've just upgrade to vista and i've lost my audio. I've tried all the latest drives, still no luck. The pc says the driver is installed and the device is working correctly but i cant hear nothing. Volume is 100% also.
    Any ideas?

    I have a similar problem.
You can solve the problem in one of two ways, and I list them in the order I would recommend you try them:
    1. Disable Driver Enhancements for your device.
Through control panel, double click on sound. You should receive a prompt asking you if you want to disable Driver Enhancements. Click yes. Restart. Done.
    If this doesnt work, try
    2. Install vista drivers direct from Realtek.
Realtek has new drivers available for High Def Audio. They can be found at:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Click on High Definition Audio Codecs
Select under windows, Vista Driver (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file) and select one of the mirrors and download the file (Warning: Takes a long time!)
Under control panel, through device manager, uninstall your realtek audio device.
    Restart.
When Vista detects the new device, just click cancel.
Open the Zip file, find Setup.exe and install. Done.
    Yep. Done!
Good luck and let me know how you get on.
    Cheers

  • Network HP Laserjet is no longer accessible by my iMac and Macbooks after OSX upgrade.

My HP Laserjet 4100n is no longer accessible over my wired/wireless network from my iMac and Macbooks.  This is new since I upgraded to OSX 10.6.8.  The printer works fine from my old windows laptop.  Thanks in advance for any help.

appears that apple has changed SMB code, and now its not possible login from windows on mac.
i installed snow leopard and now works fine.
apple is capable to make it run paying new license of smb code, but isnted of this, apple has created new protocol smbx and now, all others need to adapt your code to apple..
bad movement.. i am thinking sell imac and no back to apple anymore..

  • After OSX upgrade to 10.4 .. Mail rules changed and keep reverting

We just did archive & install of 10.4 on desktop G4 Mirror Door machine, and upon importing our old mail found that SOME of the RULES in Mail were somehow changed.
Various original rules were set to COPY incoming mail messages to various different mailboxes ... after upgrade & import the SOME rules were changed to copy messages to the wrong mailboxes.
MOST FRUSTRATING is that no matter how many times we fix the problem .. it reoccurs every time mail is closed and reopened.
Any advice as to how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Went ahead and just deleted all the problem rules then re-created them .. which appears to have solved the problem (he said hopefully .. sigh)

  • IPhone will not sync after OSX upgrade

I have a iPhone 3GS (iOS 5.1) which I bought at the same time as a MacBook Pro.  Last week I upgraded the operating system on the laptop to OS 10.9.4 (Maverick).  I have had a heap of minor issues of things not working as they used to, but I have now discovered that the phone isn't synching.  Nor is it sending an error message - it just exits the sync program.
I bought all Apple gear because I believed that I would avoid this problem.  What has gone wrong?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

  • IChat will not allow me log-in after OSX upgrade?

I recently updated my software to OSX 10.4.11 to 'fix security issues'
When I try to log in to iChat it says my password is wrong. I am able to log in on the same network using my lap top using my password i know to be correct.
Resetting the password on the Apple site does not fix the issue.
I have tried quitting iChat and going in to: User>Library> Preferences and deleting the files with .ichat in the name. I then emptied trash and restarted iChat but had the same problem.
    What am I doing wrong?
Please offer any advice in full. Thanks

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Lion. There's a Lion Support Community where everybody has Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion

  • Mail font not loading after OSX upgrade

The recipient header name font isn't loading properly in the main pane, even though the same font is used within the message. It's impossible to see who the message is from as it is showing as unicode random letters and numbers. If I click on the message the name shows fine. Help!

    Hi Tom
Thanks so much for responding. I have done a safe reboot and it seems to have fixed the problem, whatever it was?!

  • MacBook OSX 10.6.5 No audio after update

Hello, My aluminum 13" MacBook has been fine up until a few weeks ago. The internal speakers do not work after Mac OSX 10.6.5 boots up. I hear the 'gong' on initial start up... but no audio after OSX boots. I have tried plugging in headphones, using a toothpick- nothing works. The sound preferences show 'Internal Speakers' and Built in.
Another interesting fact is iTunes reports "an unknown error occurred -200". Very helpful message.
If I boot into Windows Vista using BootCamp.. audio works just fine. So, the speakers and audio hardware are not malfunctioning. It's clearly an OSX configuration problem.
Any ideas on what I can do to get my audio back? The only thing that has changed was I let Apple Updater install a few patches.

If you have not already done so, run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" & "Repair Permissions" routines on your startup drive (in that order). If the verify disk step finds any problems, you must correct them before continuing.
Try creating a new, temporary user account. Restart your Mac, logging into that account only. If the speakers now work then something associated with your normal user account is the problem, such as a login item or bad preference file.
If the speakers still don't work with this account, you can delete it. Then try starting up in Safe Mode. If the speakers now work something that Safe Mode disables is the culprit, such as a third party or non-essential extension, an add-on system modifier, startup item, etc.
If none of the above help, try downloading & installing the 10.5.6 combo update. If that doesn't help then you may need to reinstall the OS & update it to the current version.

  • Why mouse arrow disappears after I upgraded to osx Mavericks

why mouse arrow disappears after I upgraded to osx Mavericks-==

After I upgraded to Mavericks, Quicktime has had to convert MPEG-4 videos to .mov.... Why? Is there a way to stop that or to change the settings?
Your question requires more information. What does MPEG-4 mean to you? What file container and which compression formats are you referring to here? Is the MPEG-4 content "standard" or proprietary. Basically, depending on the file container and the specific content, QT X v10.3 may initiate a conversion ever where the individual data tracks are fully QT compatible. Proprietary compression formats will definitely do this. In some cases, the audio or video in one source container may simply be passed through to the MOV file while in another source container, QT X v10.3 forces a conversion of that same data track. In short, there are too many variables at this point to properly answer your question or attempt to duplicate your workflow.
