No audio after updating to 10.7.1

I updated to 10.7.1 today and I've lost the audio on my 17" MacBook Pro.  Before the update, everything was working fine.  The audio icon on the menu bar is grayed out.  Also, I can't adjust anything through System Preferences.  There's no "output audio" options in System Preferences.
What's going on?  More importantly, how do I get my audio working again?

I am also having this issue.  I took my "no longer covered under warranty" iPhone 5 to the apple Genius bar, everything appeard "fine"...but I wasn't connected to the service provider.
I have in the following order, taken these steps:
Powered off/on
Reset Network
Reset Device
Changed to new SIM card
Wiped and restored my phone.
I am completely dissatisfied with this update, I have had NO problems with my phone to date and this update has literally stopped my business.  I have no way of making calls, texts, internet, mail etc.
I am NOT responsible for buying a new phone, this is all due to the software update.  FIXIT!!!

Hm.. I never have problems with audio in Windows 7..
    Just try this:
Please run the Sound troubleshooting tool by going to Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Troubleshoot audio playback -> follow the wizard to troubleshoot the issue.

  • MacBook OSX 10.6.5 No audio after update

Hello, My aluminum 13" MacBook has been fine up until a few weeks ago. The internal speakers do not work after Mac OSX 10.6.5 boots up. I hear the 'gong' on initial start up... but no audio after OSX boots. I have tried plugging in headphones, using a toothpick- nothing works. The sound preferences show 'Internal Speakers' and Built in.
Another interesting fact is iTunes reports "an unknown error occurred -200". Very helpful message.
If I boot into Windows Vista using BootCamp.. audio works just fine. So, the speakers and audio hardware are not malfunctioning. It's clearly an OSX configuration problem.
Any ideas on what I can do to get my audio back? The only thing that has changed was I let Apple Updater install a few patches.

If you have not already done so, run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" & "Repair Permissions" routines on your startup drive (in that order). If the verify disk step finds any problems, you must correct them before continuing.
Try creating a new, temporary user account. Restart your Mac, logging into that account only. If the speakers now work then something associated with your normal user account is the problem, such as a login item or bad preference file.
If the speakers still don't work with this account, you can delete it. Then try starting up in Safe Mode. If the speakers now work something that Safe Mode disables is the culprit, such as a third party or non-essential extension, an add-on system modifier, startup item, etc.
If none of the above help, try downloading & installing the 10.5.6 combo update. If that doesn't help then you may need to reinstall the OS & update it to the current version.

  • Very Low Audio after Updating iPod wVideo 60 GB

After updating to latest software for iPod with video 60 GB, the audio on all of my songs is extremely low. I have to turn the volume nearly to max to hear at a modest level. I also get Zero bass now.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Thanks dude for the help, that's a very useful tip for many reasons.
It didn't resolve my problem and then I recalled that I have another set of headpones from my old iRiver. I plug those headphones (which were used excessively for 2 years) and my sound is instantly back.
Basically, iPod headphones (that I have had since November 2005) are totally shot. They are absolute crapola. Geeze, they might as well sell the **** things without headphones, just go straight to after-market set.

  • Applications can no longer play audio after update | VAIO VPCCW21FX

I'll make this as quick, clean, and to the point as possible. Also, please forgive me because I haven't used Arch in over 3 years, so a lot of things are different.
    - I am on a Sony VAIO VPCCW21FX.
    - I installed using the AUI script (which is absolutely wonderful, I might add).
    - I am using Gnome 3 as my desktop environment.
    - I can hear system sounds out of my speakers and headphones, but no applications appear to produce sound.
    - This started a couple of days ago after a system update.
    - ALSA and Pulse seem to be set up properly.
    - Alsamixer shows my sound card and allows me to configure output/input.
    - PulseAudio Volume Control also shows my card, and allows me to configure output/input.
    - Gstreamer and it's dependencies and codecs are installed.
    - Mplayer and it's dependencies and codecs are installed.
Here is the output of lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio":
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)

And yes, the CLI speaker test that plays white noise works.
It seems to be a codec issue to me, but I have no idea what codecs would be conflicting with each other. If anyone knows of a remedy, or can point me in a general direction, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

  • 50L3400U-No video, only audio after update

Last week, an update froze, and my wife was unable to turn the tv off using the remote.  After unplugging, and replugging, the update went through.  Since then, our Motorola cable tv box will not display video, but the audio works.  I tried different HDMI cables, and shuffling between the 3 HDMI ports on the tv to no avail.  The other two devices connected through HDMI (roku 3, and Sony DVD player) both work just fine on all HDMI ports.
The video from the cable box will work if I do a reset.  Video will work until I turn the tv off, and then it won't work anymore.  Attempts to update only lead to the installation of Samba, and then video does not work anymore.
I'd like to be able to just turn the tv on and use it, instead of having to do a reset every time.  Any ideas?

Unfortunately, it sounds like it may require servicing. You should call customer support.

  • IMovie 11 dropped my audio after update. Deleted and reloaded music track and still no music at all. No files moved or touched. No changes made except update. What's up?

Argh. Just spent a week organizing and editing the music for pics and vid and now imovie does not have any audio except for my original video clips. What gives?

Lots to be excited about. BUT...Just updated to 8.1 on one of my computers to test it out...
Sadly, the following issue is NOT fixed for me. Is it with new projects only?  I haven't started a new project on 8.1 I've only opened an old project but the issue that I'm referring to which involves also a delay/freeze of anywhere from a few seconds to a MINUTE while the render bar goes from yellow to red and then back to yellow is still there. Boo.
    On the list above...
Switching between sequences can turn the render bar red.
This issue is incredibly easy to replicate. I really do hope it gets fixed. Here are the steps:
    1) Create two sequences with multiple short clips (the more clips the better)
    2) Make sure GPU acceleration is enabled.
    3) Add warp stabilizer to the clips in both sequences. Again, the more clips the longer the delay/freeze will be as the render bar goes from YELLOW to RED and then eventually back to YELLOW again.
    4) Hit SAVE.
    5) Now, toggle between sequences. You'll hit a short delay with a few clips stabilized and a LONG delay with lots stabilized. In my case this delay is around a full minute. The render bar will go from YELLOW to RED and then back to yellow...eventually.
    6) Toggle back to the original sequence and the delay occurs again.
    7) Once you've toggled between sequences and have gone through this delay, that's it, there is no longer a delay...UNTIL...(and here's the big kicker)...until the project is SAVED again. After that the issue returns when you toggle between sequences. Both saving manually and AUTOSAVING cause this issue. No way around it except not editing with GPU acceleration.
Not sure what the issue is...caching issue when saving maybe? Either way, it stinks and it's still there in 8.1. Big bummer.
Again, lots to be excited about with this release but I really was hopefully this specific issue was resolved.
    Sigh.

  • No System Sound/Audio after updating to 10.6.2

After doing a system update to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I've lost all system sound excluding—strangely—iChat, which still does notification pings. I don't even get the familiar "click-clack" sound when changing the volume from my keyboard.
The speakers are fine, as I can hear the iChat pings and the start-up tone. Just baffled as to what the problem could be. Any suggestions would be incredibly helpful.
Other information: I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on a 24" iMac circa late 2007/early 2008.

I too am having this problem unless I resort to plugging in my external speakers which I don't want to use when I am not at home. I am not being given the option to switch to internal speakers oddly, please help!!!!!!!!
Another Problem: Time Machine: I am unable to restore anything now. 10.6.2 has a bug alright, this is preventing me from restoring anything on time machine back to any date on there. =/

  • Beats Audio after update to win.10 from 8.1

Hello i ve updated  windows on my ntb and i have little troubles with my beats. When i switch on ntb sound is good but after time is bass, treble, center, space and focus shout down.I ve tried update driver, reinstall, uninstall and install but nothing.Everything is heppening when i am on internet. When i am not on internet its allright.Ive tried reinstall or update driver for internet connection but nothing. Please help me someone.     my ntb is    Pavilion 15 J1R83EA#BCM  now with win 10

You have to UPGRADE your 8.1 operating system to Windows 10 first.  After the upgrade the it should be automatically activated.  After that you can do clean  install of Windows 10. It will be automatically activated when online. (During installation it will ask for Product Key couple of times, just click on skip) Since you have already done clean install without upgrading first, you will have to reinstall original Windows 8.1 or do recovery installation. Once you've done that, you upgrade to Windows 10 and do clean install afterwards. (Make sure it's activated before clean install) Remember, the Windows 10 is tied to your paticular computer/motherboard and can not be transfered to other computer/tablet.

  • Quicktime - No audio after update

Running Mac OS 10.4.7 and Quicktime 7.1.2 on a G4 1.42 GHz Mac mini.
After downloading and installing the OS and QT update, I no longer get any sound in QT from MPEG-1 files, the muxed kind I believe. I had a MPEG-1 video and it didn't have any sound, nor any flash or MPEG videos online. iTunes is just fine and QT will run iPod-compatible videos as well as AVI and WMV (via respective plugins).
I have tried reinstalling QT and it did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?

THANX!!! i had the same thing, no sound with mpeg muxed files!!
    10.4.7 is a pain the...
i didn't think that it would fix it, but opening garageband, playing a file and quitting it... and then playing your mpeg muxed video... and TADA! you get sound again...

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

  • Built in Audio not working in MacBook Pro after update to 10.7.3

The Built In Audio is not working in My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) after update to 10.7.3; I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC but it didn't helped me out. I can get audio only if i reboot my mac from Safe Mode or reboot after Repairing Disk Permissions in disk utility using the Recovery Partition;. If i make a normal restart or just startup then the built in audio disappers (audio is displayed gray in the menu bar) . Everything was working well with the 10.7.2
    - Audio Works well with the Boot Camp Partition. and There is a sound during boot up.

I dont have any backups and i dont have time capsule or  an external hard drive ready to be used for backup.
My macbook is my the only one computer. The problem is that the animation is lagging when i change the window to dashboard or safari or mail or another window. Inspite of this my macbook works well.
But 5 minutes ago, I noticed that if i run autocad on my mac- the lags go away!!!!

  • Audio Components Mix disappear after update to 10.1 – rescue my work?

    Dear community,
after updating on 10.1 we are missing an essential feature.
Hundreds of episodes have an audiomix within the three stereo audio components (expand audio components)
audio1 = main voice, commentary (stereo)
    audio2 = foley / SFX / etc. (stereo)
    audio3 = music score (stereo)
On every single audio component we put audio filters and changed volume control with keyframes.
The result is a complex audio mix within a clearly arranged environment. It was very simple to understand.
Yesterday, we updated one of the episodes and noticed that our audio adjustments were not there anymore. No audio mix at all. Disaster.
For Apple developers it must be an ease to fix this issue. Maybe they just forgot that.
Please do not let mix all episodes again maybe someone has an idea?
    My plan is:
    A. Export the final audio mix of every episode (not editable anymore but rescued for eternity) in one stereo file
    B. Export audio compoents into tree seperate stereo files wihout adjustments (if changes must be done in future)
    C. Export as Roles - does anybody have experiences woking with them?
    Sincerely
    Violet

I'm having the same problem, When I import video from my CF cards on my newer iMac 10.8.5 OS the audio cannot be split into two mono tracks that can be ajusted seporatly.  This is essential for me since all my events I film, one side is the open mic audio and the other comes from the sound system.  On my old Mac with 10.7.5 I'm able to import the media then open in timeline and adjust the two audio channels seporatly.   Please Help us, I need to use my much faster computer to produce on site videos.
