No Audio being imported

Hi -
I'm trying to import some DV files to an event in FCP X. The file imports ok, but the audio track isn't there. This has happened on multiple files. THe audio's there, I can hear it in quicktime player as well as export it to an aif. But obviously, it'd be optimal for both tracks to import together on one file.
Any ideas?
Any help is appreciated.

yes. i use my camera to get the video from my tv. tried to do this with fcp x but it would ony play the tape, when i'm trying to get something from the tv using the av input feature.

Audio file import questions

1.) What audio bit rate is considered good enough for a project in Premiere that might be played on the web or DVD? I'm guessing 128k is too low?
2.) Does it cause any problems to work with different audio files in a sequence that have different bitrates, bits, khz? Should they all be converted to the same settings prior to being imported?

1. What is CFA?
The CFA file is the Conformed Audio File, that PrPro creates, upon Import, for editing. This Adobe KB Article goes into more detail: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS9FAF538A-BEE3-4925-B45A-DF8BE7F2A2E5.ht ml#WS00AF9E2E-9F99-4aff-8961-1E2F30E9ECCC It is only used internally by PrPro.
- I use AIFF instead of PCM/WAV, is that a bad thing in Premiere?
- If I have a low quality WAV 22KHz 8-bit, are you saying that CS6 will upconvert it somehow to 48KHz 16-bit? I'm guessing that it does not improve sound quality of the previously lower quality sound file?
A few users have had issues with AIFF files, but those issues could well have been specific to their particular files.
The 22KHz material should Conform quite well, though it might take just a moment longer. PrPro is pretty good with "common" Audio files and also "common" attributes. Regardless of what you Import, PrPro will Conform it to 48KHz 32-bit floating-point, in the CFA, to edit.
I have some older SmartSound libraries that are 22KHz 8-bit, and they Import and edit just fine. As most of my uses have been rather short in Duration, the time to Conform is hardly noticed with those files.

Only half of the audio gets imported in Composition!!!

I use After Affects CS6. I have 8 videos. I import them to my Project and then import them all in one composition. Everything is fine: BUT one of the videos, has only half the sound. On top left, I see the green wave sign is full but as soon as I import it next to the other videos in the Composition, only half of the sound gets imported. I check the Audio in the composition for this video and can also see the green wave in half way through.
I tried a new comporistion for this particular video, the same thing. I even closed everything down, open a very brand new project but still the same.
No effect or anything is used. Again, all the 8 videos are being treated 100% indenticall. It is just this one that although the audio gets imported all in full in the Project but as soon as it is imported to the Composition, half of the sound gets disppeared.
Please help me. I have to deliver this project to my customer :(((

The videos come from my Camcorder and in MTS format.
Yes. It opens fine in Premiere and other places. Even in After Effects, It imports all fine in the Project. The green waving audio sign is there to see and all fine. But as soon as I import it to the Composition, only half od the audio gets importet.
Well, like I said, EVERYTHING is 100% the same amoung all these 8 videos. They were shot at the same day, same everything. All the other 7 work just they way they should. Its just THIS one with this issue.
I just even un-installed the AE and re-installed it but still the same. New project, new composition, .. THIS video gets only half audio when in Composition.

No audio with imported AVCHD Clips in PE 11

I have Premiere Elements v11.0 running on a Windows 8 machine. I have updated PE and no more updates are available.
The AVCHD video I am importing is full HD, PAL at 25 fps. The audio is 384kbps 6 channels with audio sample rate of 48kHz. I can import and edit these clips into Premiere Elements V7.0 running on a Windows 7 PC without any problems. The project settings used are HDV 720.
With Elements V11.0, the audio is not being imported which ever project settings I try. There are no error messages.
I have the latest version of Quick Time (7.7.4) installed, although QuickTime doesn’t understand the file. Windows Media Player plays it OK – video and audio. VLC media player also plays it OK.
Is this a missing codec, a bug or some other problem?
Suggestions please?

In spite of the questions to follow, I did see that you wrote

Just want to go over your details so as not to take anything for granted.
What are the properties of your source media? What is the file extension? You say AVCHD Full HD, PAL at 25 fps. and you add the project settings used are HDV 720. Why?
The project preset is supposed to match the properties of your source media. From what you wrote, my read on that is that you have
AVCHD video compression 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 25 (probably interlaced) frames per second.
If so, the project preset should be PAL AVCHD Full HD 1080i25 5.1 channel.
If that is 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 25 progressive frames per second
then the project preset should be PAL DSLR 1080p DLSR 1080p25.
So, what is the rationale behind setting the project preset for what you describe at HDV 720 which I am taking to be 1280 x 720 @ 25 progressive frames per second?
What is your audio compression.... Dolby Digital 5.1 channel or AAC 5.1 channel or other?
What brand model camera is this video with its audio coming from?
How are you getting the video audio from camera to Premiere Elements11 Timeline?
Is it only the footage from this particular camera that is at issue?

How / Why is audio being truncated

Basic Problem: All the audio on imported video clips is being cut off after approximately 7 secs.
Description:
I have a set of clips that were made on a Nikon Coolpix. They were imported firstly into iMovie where they played correctly. Then I imported the same clips into PRE.
I moved a couple of clips onto the timeline where they appeared to play correctly.
I started experimenting with a narration track, the narration coming from a USB mic.
I now find that the audio on the video tracks is truncated after about 7 secs, in other words the sound starts playing and then stops at about the 7 sec mark.
If I detach the audio from the video and look at the waveform you can see the first 7 secs as an expected sound waveform and then the display changes to a rectangular box with no sound waves. I tried to capture an image of the waveform, or lack of it but it appears that the waveform view is on the same level as the screen capture process so I can't capture the image.
All of the clips seem to be suffering from this problem suggesting that I must have changed something at the macro level to create this problem but I'm at a loss to know what would effect it.
I'd appreciate any pointers as to what might be the source of the problem and how I might correct it.

Thanks for the feedback.
After some trials I believe the "conforming audio" is not the problem (or maybe it is and I don' understand it). After importing a clip there is no indication that there is any processing going on - also there is a small 'P' in the lower right hand for the thumbnail. I can't find any explanation of what the letter 'P' means.
I removed all the offending clips and tried reimporting them but still ran into the same problem, even tried importing and letting it sit for an hour to make sure there was no processing going on that I couldn't detect - overkill I know. Didn't solve the problem.
I tried cleaning up the media cache via the preferences menu, after I deleted the offending files. Then reimported but to no avail.
I erased the project and all related files and repeated the whole process but still would not work.
What did work
I tried importing an older file from a different event, also a file from the Nikon, and found that it suffered the same problem.
So I converted the file to mpeg4, imported the converted file and it worked perfectly - the quality of the video appears somewhat degraded but the audio is complete.
I repeated this with a different process. Made the clip into a project in iMovie, exported it and then imported that file into PRE. It worked just fine.
Now I notice that sometimes when I import a file that come from the Nikon PRE asks me if I want to fix the quality.
So, in my naivety I'm guessing that this problem has something to do with the quality of the clip. I don't know much about these things but I understand that the extension mov could mask a variety of formats and so perhaps there is something that PRE can't digest very well in the file exported from the Nikon.

I assume you are dynamic linking. As a test, export a short section from PR as MPEG2-DVD, then import those files to Encore "as timeline" (be sure to pick both the m2v and the wav).

As you mentioned regarding operating unit, we were passing it throught backe-end and fron as well, but still the same error appearing, and we need to do this asap, becuase we are going to live and we don't have much time.

Try a cleaning disc. You can get them at places like Radio Shack.
If nothing helps your optical drive has probably failed. You can replace it or purchase an inexpensive external drive. Don't buy the Apple SuperDrive as it won't work with macs that have a built in drive.

IPhoto on Mac not showing photostream. My photos from iPhone were not on my Mac, I tried to import using cable. Now the photos show in iCloud only. It seems frozen. On trying to close iPhoto down got message that photos being imported. 6 hours ago

I have IMac on Yosemeite, 500GB. IPhone 5 on 8.2. My photos, from iPhone, had not appeared via photo stream on my Mac. I had been away from a while But expected the photos to appear on the Mac. There were 1000 in Photostream and 1200 in Camera Roll. I used a cable to import the Camera Roll, it stopped importing after 1000 photos. The photos, though, are in iCloud and I don't know how to access them to put them to Events. There are 3 recent Photostream events showing up in IPhoto withOut any photos. I tried to import to Library but was directed to Finder and no access to iPhoto. I tried to shut down iPhoto but got a message telling me photos were being imported. That's 6 hours ago and I'm still getting the same message. I don't know what to do. I'm not an expert, just a user.

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

Importing a test playlist of 12 songs yielded 386 songs being imported and all the music on my Ipad being deleted.

Problem: iTunes imported 30 times more tracks than I told it to, while deleting all of the tracks that where currently on my iPad. I am 100% sure that I did not have any additional fitlers selected as I did a full go through twice to ensure no ablums/Genre boxes where checked. Also the tracks it randomly imported are compeletly random in that they where not apart of any playlist.
Specifics: I told iTunes to check for MP and ACC files on my computer. It found them and made them available in the iTunes library. Apple support site said to create a playlist then drop the tracks into it. I created 'Test' dropped in 12 tracks and then went to my iPad in iTunes. I then went to music and selected "selected playlist, artists....." Where by I only clicked on "test" in which case the progress bar informed me 386 songs where being imported. I let it finish syncing to see what the final outcome was. It did get the 12 tracks I told it to + 374 more + deleted my current music.
Rant: Why is iPad so ********? This thing is teetering closely with being returnd. Following an online guide from the OEM shouldn't yeild any other result than what they claim it should. This has nothing to do with the typical Windows to Mac learning curve either as I am typing this from a Mac Book Pro, which is regardless as I followed an online guide. I like my Mac Book Pro pretty well, but this iPad2 is the more cumbersome peice of equipment I've ever had to use.
***: Why did it delete my current tracks? I did not stumble upon any information that said it would delete the directory it is about to copy into. If this is standard then its standard but it seems like a bug to me. Also why did it important hundreds of extra tracks? My full library has about 3000 tracks and my iPad had plenty of room to accomidate more than the 386 tracks it copied over.

Failure to launch plug-in - Aperture says master file still being imported

I'm trying to edit an image in PS3. When I do, I get the error "Editing Error. One or more of the selected version has a master file which is still being imported. Please wait for the file copy to complete and try again."
But the file has been properly imported. What's going on and how can I get my image to be editable once more?

How do I monitor audio while importing?

While importing from my cable TV, I Can see the incoming video but caan't hear the audio. I would be helpful if I could here the audio so I could go about my work and keep an ear on the feed. Then I would know when the feed is over without having to Constantly watch it. I suppose I could size the monitor windo real small and put it in the corner of my screen then rearrange all working windows arround it. But that's a pain...

Open Activity monitor in Utilities, go to the CPU tab>All Processes, and note any process that would appear to be related to importing photos, such as iPhoto, and use Force Quit. This may only be a temporary fix, as it may start all over again when you reboot. If that happens, we need to do some more investigating.
Also, close all open Applications, then open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste and hit return, then post the output of this command.
lsof -l +L -R -V | grep /

No Audio being imported
