No audio call with pidgin+openbox+gtalk

I'd like to make an audio call (gtalk) from pidgin 2.10.1-1, but option is disabled, greyed out. I've gstreamer plugins, farsight2 installed.
Any idea what I'm missing?

Hi folks - my Lumia 900 Windows Phone was purchased in Nov 2012, no problems with it until recently when the audio on the earpiece stopped working.  If I switch to Speaker, I can hear everything loud & clear, but that is not convenient most of the time. Vols on 10, no bluetooth on.
Have tried turning the phone off & back on (soft reboot) which initially seemed to re-set the earpiece speaker, but now makes no difference - the earpiece audio is intermittently dead.  Frustrating when you ring someone & get silence, yet a few minutes before audio was OK.  Hard reset is last ditch - I dont think it will help this intermittent problem
Sounds like this might be a fairly common fault with the Lumia 900.  Just bought an 820 for my wife so I hope the problem is not contagious.  Time to back up the Contacts list and make sure the Zune synch is up to date i think.  At least my supplier's support is on the ball regarding a warranty claim - looks like that is what the outcome will be.

  • FaceTime/Messages Audio Call Icon

Neither my FaceTime or Messages show me the Audio Call Icon that allow me to make just audio call with FaceTime.  I only see the Video Icon that allow me to make video call with FaceTime.
On my iPhone everything works fine.  Do I need to enable some features?
    Thanks

According to rumors, the FaceTime Audio feature will come in Mac OS 10.9.2. It isn't available in earlier versions of 10.9.

  • Pidgin gtalk audio call Error and crash

I install pidgin 2.7.1 today ,but when I test audio call under gtalk with a friend ,
    get this message:
    First:
    Error adding stream.
    then I install gstreamer0.10-good gstreamer0.10-bad

    so I rm gstreamer0.10-good gstreamer0.10-bad
    and then get this msg:
Error creating session: Could not create the valve element
    thanks for your help!!!:D

Could be either way. Actually, sometimes Encore is not able to handle the mismatch in audio and video duration and that is why it causes a crash or some other error.
Try matching the duration and then build. Hope this solves your problem.

  • Hi all. I want to make audio chat with my brother. I use iChat on my MBP. He uses Gtalk on his windows PC. The problem is that the audio icon is gray. Is there anyway? Can iChat make voice chat with Gtalk on windows?

Hi all. I want to make audio chat with my brother. I use iChat on my MBP. He uses Gtalk on his windows PC. The problem is that the audio icon is gray so I cannot start audio chat. Is there anyway? Can iChat make voice chat with Gtalk on windows or not? I am confused.

    HI,
You need to satisfy several things along the way
    Account type
You need to have a Jabber or Google mail Account your self.
If you have a Google Mail Account then it needs the "Talk" option Enabled in your Google account Settings ( A Facebook with "Chat" enabled is also a  valid Jabber ID to use in iChat).
    Connection Method
This is about which apps can connect to which apps for Video ro Audio to work.
iChat Video when using a Jabber account is iChat to iChat Only.
iChat connects using a process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
Jabber based Apps if they have  an A/V module connect using protocol called Jingle.
Needless to say Google do their own version of this that is written in to the web Browser Plugin that allows Video Chats (there are PC and Mac versions), and in the PC app called GoogleTalk.
However it is also not that compatible with other Jabber apps.
    See Jingle here
This claims, now, that Google had a hand in writing the Protocol.
Also in the "Clients Supporting Jingle" list many more version of Google products are mentioned with extended info. (it suggests that someone at Google has been editing the page).
Can iChat make voice chat with Gtalk on windows or not?
The specific answer to this to be clear is NO.
We are talking about different Apps (or web Browser Plugins) using different Internet Protocols that are not compatible.
The simplest thing is to get the Web Browser Plugin (However there can be issues with the  Flash Plugin)
At one time Google used Flash to do Video Chats and it would seem their Plugin is very close to this part of Flash.
See the Known Issues and the "Google Talk Plugin Disables iSight On Mac" item.
    Options
Use a Web Browser yourself with the Plugin.
Use a Flash Base Site such as MeBeam  (Flash has to be enabled in your Browser and the instructions are simple on the page)
Try to find a Jingle capable Mac Jabber Client (app) ( I have not found one).

  • I can't have a video call with my Gtalk contacts

Hi, I'm a new user in Mac world. Recently I bought a macbook pro and I have a problem with iChat. My girlfriend have a PC and we talk thru Gtalk video chat when I has a PC. I configure the iChat to have a video call with her but the video call icon is disable so I can't send her the invitation for the video.
I decided go to gmail.com and have the video call there but when the video call starts she can see me but i can see her, I only see her photo contact and my photo contact.
Please help me with this problem because is driving me crazy!

    Hi,
When Google started out doing the Video Chat bit they used the Flash Plug-in but now use their own.
However that does mean that now and then people find the the Flash and Google Plug-in clash  (More likely for Flash Web Based chats not to work)
I don't use Safari every day.
Firefox has a Tools Menu and can list the plug-ins in there.
I can only see a place in Safari to turn Off All Plug-ins in the Preferences > Security.

Check that you have the Flash Plug-in

  • IPhone 5 audio issues on calls with a headset

My new iPhone 5 has audio issues when I am calls with my wired apple headset. The caller cuts out like it having low reception. The ends of words and phrases are dropped as well as soft spoken words. Music works great through the headphones. Calls sound great on the handset just not on headset. Tried different headset. Still not working.
    Any solutions?
    Tim

The (same) problem exists when using the original Apple headset, which belongs to iPhone 4S, as well as using the Sennheiser MM30i. The new EarPods are the only ones that seem to work properly.
In addition to that, both headsets work perfectly well, when connected to iPhone 4S.
Eventually, both iPhone 5 itself and SIM card have been exchanged by the provider. Unfortunately the problem still exists.

  • Call Pickup - Users experience One Way Audio when using Call Pickup Orbit to pickup internal calls with internal Lync 2010 Callers

    Hi
Noticed an issue where when using Call Park Function with users you receive one way audio when answering the call
    The scenario is
    1) If a user is internal and is homed on Lync 2010 Pool and calls an internal user who is homed on a Lync 2013 Pool and another internal user homed on a Lync 2013 Pool picks up the call with Call Pick Up orbit, Lync 2010 users only hears one way audio and
same for user who has picked up call
    2) If the scenario is an External PSTN call or another Lync 2013 user these calls are fine
In Lync Tracing logs a SIP/2.0 481 Call Leg/Transaction Does Not Exist error is returned
Is this a known bug or expected behavior - Call Pickup is basically useless until all users are migrated to Lync 2013 as there is no way of a user knowing whether call is internal or external and if the user is on Lync 2010 or 2013, obviously in my
large organization 2000 users no an overnight thing
Coupled with the fact no Team Call Group\ Simultaneous Ring can be in place for Call Pickup to work im thinking Call Pick Up is not going to happen for awhile
Is there any fixes\ developments that may help this issue or is there a setting I am missing

    Hi,
Please install latest update for Lync Server 2010 and 2013.

If the issue persists, please enable logging tool on Front end and Mediation server to get trace for troubleshooting.

  • Reduced Audio Quality with Trunk to Trunk calls

I am using a Lync Server 2013 with two SIP trunks (A and B). Both trunks are using G.711 coding. I can make a call from trunk A to trunk B, but I found out that the Mediation Server seems to convert the G.711 data into RTAudio and then
back to G.711 which causes quality problems (e.g. with Fax calls). I am suppressed that the Mediation Server does this useless CPU intensive conversion also in cases where a single Mediation Server is used and both involved trunks are using G.711.
Calls with Media Bypass are working fine without intermediate coding to RTAudio. But for some reasons I want to make G.711 Fax calls (without quality reduction by the Mediation Server) also if Media Bypass is not used.
    Here are my questions:
Is there any option to prevent the useless conversation (G.711 -> RTAudio -> G.711) inside the mediation server?
Is it possible to increase to quality of the intermediate RTAudio codec so that G.711 audio can be transferred without quality loss?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you not enable Media Bypass, when the media traffic through Mediation Server it will do the codec translations.
I’m not sure if there is a way to increase the quality of the intermediate RTAudio codec, but I think the best is Media Bypass since it reduce latency, eliminate unnecessary codec translations and reduce the number of hops.

Note: It has been noted that this file is now apparently included in Windows XP after Service Pack 2 and above.
An AIM account/screen name (AOL or Netscape count as well)

To start from the PC end you need to start a text chat, then select the Video icon at the bottom of the chat window.
If one of you has a camera and the other has a Mic then you will be able to chat One Way but have sound will be both ways.
To start this type of chat from the Mac end you will have to go to the menu item "Buddies" and drop down to the item "Invite to One Way Video Chat"
To start this from a PC follow the directions in the pargraph above. You may need to change the tab to the incoming Video at the back of the two to see the Video. These tabs are added when the Video chat starts and the front one normally states you do not have a camera and shows a connection to buy one.
It is also possible to chat One Way if the other person does not have a Mic: replies will have to be typed in a Text chat.
No Camera and No Mic will cause iChat to End the chat with "No Data Received for 10 Secs"
    Summary
For any sort of sound to a PC using AIM, (Talk in PC or Audio in iChat) the Mac will need a camera. The other person can have a Mic and then live chats with sound both ways and Pictures (Video) the other.
NOTE: At This Time It Is NOT Possible to Audio (sound only) between Mac & PC with AIM & iChat
Trillian Basic can Audio. Trillian Pro can Video and has a bigger picture and can do Full Screen.

  • Unable to select 'Use Phone for audio calls' on Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for Windows

    Hi,
I have recently deployed Cisco Presence Server and integrated with Call Manager 9.1.2. I have successfully deplyed 6700 users on IM & Presence. Some of the users requested for Cisco Jabber with phone control.
I have added CFS client on the Call Manager and associated it with the same extension numbers from their desk phones. I am currently able to make audio and video calls for these specific users. I am currently using Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for windows. I have users both daisy chained to their desk phones and who are not. Can you please confirm if it does make any difference.
    Problem Faced -
I am not able to use to option use phone for audio calls. The phone comes down with a cross sign on it. At the same time Cisco Jabber by default uses the client and it works as expected.
Can you please let me know if any of you guys have faced a similar issue.
Please let me know if you need any information regading the configuration used.
Looking forward for your valuable comments.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Joseph Chirayath.

    Hi Will,
I am attaching the screen shot for the END USER on CUCM 9.X that has been configured on Cisco Jabber.
Please do let me know if you need any further information.
    Thank you.

  • [Not really solved] Video with Pidgin is not working

    Hi,
I would like to use video chat with Pidgin, but it doesn't work on my computer.
I have a webcam (:D), and it seems that it is correctly recognized because ` vlc v4l2:// ' shows me my face. I'm using XMPP (with a GMail account, but this shouldn't matter) and want to chat with someone using Ubuntu and Pidgin 2.6.6 (she has a webcam which seems to work correctly)
In the "Voice/Video settings" plugin, there are three options in the field Video → Input → Plugins : "default", "Test Input" and "Video4Linux" (and only "default" in the field Device, for the three plugins)
    "default" and "Video4Linux" give
    (21:03:34) Error with your webcam
    (21:03:34) Conference error
(21:03:34) The call has been terminated.
as soon as I try to start a video call, and "Test Input" only shows me a test pattern (but I guess this is the meaning of "Test Input" )
BTW, I wonder why there is only "Video4Linux" and not "Video4Linux2"
    The Pidgin's FAQ says this
How do I configure my microphone/webcam?
Currently, the command-line gstreamer-properties program is used. This is only available on GNOME-based systems. On other systems, Pidgin makes its best guess as to which device to use. A plugin is planned to support this functionality on other systems.
But I don't use GNOME, my desktop environment is LXDE.
What could I do to make my webcam work with Pidgin?
    Thank you!
    Edit:
    - my system is up to date
    - I have farsight2 and gstreamer0.10-{good,bad,ugly} installed

Well, the problem is not really solved actually.
Pidgin recognizes my webcam but I still cannot open a video chat.

When streaming a movie with the new Apple TV, and using a DSL Internet connection, all audio sound works, e.g., the music track, but the audio track with the actor's voices, does not work. What can I do?

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

How do I get Video and Audio Chats with PCs ? iChat FAQ 3 (Updated 3/4/2009)
Applies to iChat 2.x, iChat 3.x and iChat 4.x to any version of AIM on a PC before AIM 6.1
See bottom section on AIM 6.5 and 6.8 on XP and Vista.
This piece is designed for those trying to connect Mac to PC for Video and Audio chats. Any iChat version Panther and up.
    Glossary For This FAQ
This bit is designed for clarity.
Video is the sending and /or receiving of pictures and sound.
Audio is the sending and or receiving of sound only.
One-Way is the ability to start either an Audio or Video chat from one end to a recipient who can not match your capabilities (or Vice Versa)
    What is needed
    At the Mac end
A Mac running OS 10.3.x and iChat AV ver 2.1 or 10.4 plus iChat 3 or Leopard and iChat 4
A DSL/Cable/Fibre (Broadband) connection of at least an up link speed of 256kbs.
An AIM , @mac.com or MobileMe (@me.com) account name.
(hosting Multiple person Mac to Mac AV chats requires higher specs and broadband uplink speed).
    At the PC end
1 PC running windows XP (home or Pro). THIS A MUST
The AIM Standalone Application, currently at ver. 5.9 at this link. AIM (the Site) now call this version Classic and it cannot be Installed On Vista
Note: there is also Trillian which has a Pro version for $25 that can also Video and Audio chat. The Basic version just Texts and Audio Chats (AIM does not Audio chat)
Some need the aimrtc12.exe file from Here Mostly Earlier than XP or Pre Service Pack 2 XP versions of Windows
An AIM account/screen name (AOL or Netscape count as well)
Service Pack 2 info. This info will allow the PC user to enable AIM thorough the XP Firewall. The Windows Firewall did not exist as such before this.
    Between both of you.
At least one camera (Mac end works better)
A sound input device (the camera, if it has one is ok)
Your Buddies screen/account name in each others Buddy Lists
    Other tweaks
For some people, using AIM on a PC, may also have to make sure their preferences (properties) are set in the AIM Buddy list, for their camera and /or Mic. (Tuning at Message 570)
This is an icon button lower right on the Buddy List marked "Prefs" (AIM 5.5). This leads to the Preferences. Drop down the list until you read Live Video. Click on this. In the new window that opens click the button that says Tuning Video and Audio. Follow the instructions in the wizard that opens up. Access in AIM 5.9 for this is in the My AIM menu at the top of the Buddy list and then Options
    To Start
You should now be able to chat to each other.
If each of you has a camera it can be full Video , as described in the Glossary at the top.
To start from the Mac end, select (highlight) your Buddy with one click. His camera icon should be dark. Click on the icon near his name or the one at the bottom of the Buddy List. (You do not have to start a text chat).
To start from the PC end you need to start a text chat, then select the Video icon at the bottom of the chat window.
If one of you has a camera and the other has a Mic then you will be able to video chat One Way but sound will be both ways.
To start this type of chat from the Mac end you will have to go to the menu item "Buddies" and drop down to the item "Invite to One Way Video Chat"
To start this from a PC follow the directions in the paragraph above.
    Summary
PC end gets AIM 5.9 or Trillian Pro.
The PC end allows the app through the XP Firewall.
AIM 5.9 needs "Tuning" to Camera and Mic.
For any sort of sound to a PC using AIM, (Talk in PC or Audio in iChat) the Mac will need a camera. The other person can have a Mic and then live chats with sound both ways and Pictures (Video) One-Way.
NOTE: At This Time It Is NOT Possible to Audio (sound only) between Mac & PC with AIM & iChat
Trillian Basic can Audio. Trillian Pro can Video and has a bigger picture and can do Full Screen.
Another explanation of the set up can be found Here about AIM 5.5 but is transferable to AIM 5.9.

AIM 6.5 and 6.8 On Vista and XP
AIM 5.9 or earlier can not be installed on Vista.
AIM 6.5 and 6.8 use a new video codec with a description of "Real Time IM"
AIM have an FAQ page about this
Below the pics is this quote
What do I need to use Real-Time IM?
You and your buddy need to be using AIM® 6.8 or higher to use Real-Time IM. Unfortunately, Real-Time IM does not yet work with older AIM clients, iChat®, or AIM® for Mac®.
