No audio detected possibly related to Windows 8.1 upgrade on HP Pavilion HPE h8-1320t CTO Desktop PC

Everything was going fine with my computer and then one day my audio devices are not detected.  Looking around this forum and other parts of the internet it looks like a lot of people are having similar issues with a new installment of the Windows 8.1 update which my computer would have automatically installed.
I think it is a driver issue.  The only problem is that I cannot find an updated driver anywhere.
I have considered going back to Windows 7 but it would be even better if I can keep moving forward with Windows 8.1.  Does anyone have any advice for my particular computer?

I think I have some Windows files that are corrupted.  Unfortunately the only DVDROM I cannot find right now is my Windows 8.  I think a system refresh would fix me right up but until I find the disk I either have to suffer or consider going back to Windows 7.
I have to say that I do not like how Windows 8.1 has taken over a few other things with my system.  Maybe Windows 7 wouldn't be so bad.

  • Acrobat crashes as soon as it launches -- possibly related to Windows DEP

I run Acrobat 8.0 Standard on Windows Vista Home Basic.  It has always run fine, until a few weeks ago.  After a windows update, Acrobat started crashing as soon as I launched it.
After a little bit of googling, I think I've determined that this is because the Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) program has now decided that Acrobat 8.0 is a threat to my computer, so windows is shutting it down as soon as I launch it.
I found one set of instructions for adding Acrobat 8.0 as an exception program within DEP, but when I tried to follow them, I got an error message telling me that Acrobat is not allowed to be listed as an exception.
Is there a DEP-compatible update to Acrobat 8.0 available?  Or is there a way to force Windows DEP to stop shutting it down?
    Thanks!
    Joel

Windows DEP has been a problem (haven't heard about it for quite a while). However, you indicate you have AA8.0. If you have a X64 system, then that is not adequate. In any case, you should update Acrobat that is currently at AA8.2.5 and see if that solves your problem. If you can not update from the help menu, then go to the download>updates at Adobe.com (they made it a bit more confusing to find with the last site change) and download the Acrobat Windows update that follow your version. Then install the updates in order. Do not skip any unless the updates page indicates you can.

  • Audio and Video issue with Windows 8.1 upgrade on Ideapad n585

I upgraded my Ideapad N585 to Windows 8.1 the other day, took forever, but it made it through.  Unfortunately, I now get boot erors for the Dolby software, and the AMD Vision/Catalysyt Control Center.  Neither of these programs are able to start, from startup or even manually.  They just won't run.  Sound seems to come out fine still, but I do have video issues.
First off, my computer doesn't seem to recognize a HDtv as a monitor through the HDMI port.  I still get an image, but it's set to current screen resolution instead of 1080i.  I tried using the detect button to force it to look for a second monitor (my TV), but it showed nothing connected, though at the time I was using two screens.  Now my monitor's screen resolution seems to be a little higher than my TV's, but it doesn't fit the screen properly, and will sometimes put a black border around the desktop, not using the full screen.  I have also noticed, that when plugged into the tv, if a background program like a screen saver starts (and I am one of the few people who still use them, I like BOINC, sue me), it will reset the screen resolution to what it requires.  When the program exits, the screen resolution stays, and that becomes the new max screen resolution until I restart the computer.  So far, it only does this through the tv, if I run the laptop monitor alone, it doesn't happen.
I did try updating the software with what's available through the support site, but nothing happened.  I even went as far as to use the Windows 9x~XP standbys of completely uninstalling, manually removing everything from the system registry I could find relating to these two programs, and then finally reinstalling the software.  Giving the audio and video a complete clean slate to work from, and got no positive results.  I restart the computer, Dolby and Catalyst won't boot, and blind to HDtv.  Problems as described above still apply.
Anybody else have this issue?  Anybody got a fix?

have you found a solution to this?
My computer updated to 8.1 without my wanting it to, I have the same problems as you. I installed the video driver because the brightness was locked on what I had it. (the bar would move but did not change)
I searched for brightness and n585 and I was able to find a driver, now brightness works but HDMI still does not. When I plug in the TV both screens go black with all 4 options in the "project" screen.
    *edit*
this worked for me i stumbled across this
I unplugged the power cable with the hdmi cable plugged in. Hit (windows key+p) scrolled to duplicate and it worked.I plugged in the power cord back in and it still worked.

  • No audio from iTunes 11 on windows 7

I get no audio on playback from newest releases of iTunes 11.1.5.5 on my Windows-7 laptop. This is whether I am trying to listen to groovera.com channels on the internet option, or direct playback of a CD inserted. In all cases iTunes appears to be playing, yet no sound comes out of the speakers or headphones. All other programs (Spotify, Pandora, etc) use the speakers ok. I have uninstalled iTunes and freshly downloaded it several times. This situation has persisted through several releases over the last few months; I do not remember with which release the problem first started. I have no idea why. I have looked at Windows Firewall settings, etc. I have a feeling the answer lies in either iTunes settings or possibly permissions within Windows, but have no clue what to look at. Help?

    Hello Ozboz1,
It sounds lke you are not hearing audio in iTunes when playing a CD or listening to internet radio. I recommend first checking out this info from the article named:
iTunes 11 for Windows: If you have trouble playing music or other audio
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12335
If the progress bar at the top of the iTunes window is moving, but you don’t hear anything
If you’re using your computer’s built-in speakers: Make sure the volume control at the top of the iTunes window isn’t turned down, and that your computer’s output volume isn’t turned down (in the “Sound and Audio Devices Properties” control panel).
If you’re using powered speakers connected to your computer: Make sure the powered speakers are properly plugged in to your computer’s audio port, plugged into a power source, and turned on. Also make sure their volume isn’t turned down.
If you’re using remote speakers and the iTunes volume control is dimmed: Make sure Computer is selected in the AirPlay pop-up menu at the top of the iTunes window. Then choose iTunes > Preferences, click Devices, and make sure “Allow iTunes audio control from remote speakers” is not selected.
If you’re trying to listen to music through remote speakers using AirPort Express: Make sure the remote speakers are selected in the AirPlay pop-up menu at the top of the iTunes window. If you only want to use the volume control on the speakers, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Devices, and select “Allow iTunes audio control from remote speakers.” Make sure the volume control on the speakers isn’t turned down.
If the issue persists, try the troubleshooting in the following article to help isolate it further:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

If the issue still is not resolved I would next use the following article to help investigate conflicts with Windows:

  • Sb x-fi xtreme audio console launcher problems on windows 7 32bit

Asb x-fi xtreme audio console launcher problems on windows 7 32bit'sI recently installed windows 7, because I was tired from Windows XP, but unfortunately after installing all the drivers for my hardware I realized my 5. isn't working quite as expected.
My first problem was, that the Crystalizer didn't work, after installing tons of different software, found on creative labs forums the crystalizer started working.
Then I realized that the CMSS-3D wasn't (and still isn't working). How do I fix that ? I've tried numerous ways but nothing happens, while in windows XP everything worked fine after installing the drivers.
I also miss some configuration options in the Creative Console Launcher, namely the check boxes:
?"Automatically enable headphone settings" and "Automatically mute speakers".
Where the hell did they go?! I use them, I need them. How do I get them back? Is XP somehow privileged than 7? Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?
I also can't change the speaker configuration - it's stays 5. whatever I do, and the drop-down menu with the choices is missing?! Auto-detect option doesn't work, and if it did worked - I don't need it.

This is only for the DELL Inspiron 520 Notebook (See Below). Microsoft patch fix info below also. Also, I see there's other people that are having the same issue, maybe you to need to download and install the patch fix for your notebook's on dell's website. • Video but no audio? possible solution.

This applies to QTPro7, OSX10.4.3. I use a firewire sound box (MOTU 828Mk2.) For quite a while I got no sound out of QT7. Only if I disconnected my sound box did I hear the sound on the G5's internal speaker.
Today I discovered some important features in "show movie properties." I selected "sound track", upper portion of Properties window. Then I selected Audio Settings tab, middle of window. In the lower right is a window pane labeled Channel/Assignment. There's a popup window on the right of each channel. I discovered that the default output setting is "mono", and this setting does not route the sound to my sound box. I changed the output to Discrete-0, and the (mono) sound played correctly through the left channel of my sound box.
I could find nothing in the QTPro documentation on this, but this appears to be related to a major new feature of QT7, namely the ability to route sound to multiple channels.
So, if you don't hear sound, check the Audio Settings in the Properties window, and play around with the channel assignments.
    all the best!
    -Lou

I've got the same problem with my Revolution 7.1 card. Randomly, a month or two ago, certain random podcasts' (Rocketboom) lost audio playback. This trick of setting the channel helped.
Problem is, apps like iMovie don't let you do this! Any mono AAC files don't have audio playback in Quicktime or iMovie, unless I do this little hack.

  • How can I detect if ANY popup windows are showing

I have implemented a couple of JInternalFrames which can be closed by pressing the escape key, however, inside these frames different parts of the code will sometimes show JPopupMenus and they too should be closable by pressing the escape key.
Thus, I need to close my frames when the user presses escape but only if no popups are showing. For instance, if the user right clicks in my frame to show a popup, then the first time he or she presses escape the popup will close, and the second time the frame itself will close.
What I am looking for is a generic approach to this, that would make it possible for me to detect if any popup windows are currently visible and only if that is not the case I will proceed and close the frame.
I have been giving this some thought but I have not yet come up with a good solution to this. Has anyone implemented something like this or does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a preferred way to get all popups of a frame, dialog, window or the like?
    Thanks
    Randahl

I also ran into this issue. The previous post can be solved easily by the new event structures, but I need to check if a panel is the frontmost in windows as well.
The FP.Is frontmost property returns if a panel is the frontmost Vi within Labview but not if Labview is the frontmost window in windows.
I ran into this as I am making some stuff to use the scollwheel.
As an example I have added two Vi's. Just load & run these, as long as Labview is active this works. But I would like to have something that switches the lights off when I select another Windows application.
I (think I) cannot use the USER32.dll API as I reconstruct a reference to the 'owner vi' using a control reference.
Anyone has some experience with this??

    Hello LeaMinovitch,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes Store: Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
To authorize a computer, follow these steps:
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still authorize your computer.
In some cases, iTunes may ask you to authorize the computer again. iTunes should use the same authorization as before if the computer is in your list of authorized computers.
Learn what to do if iTunes repeatedly asks you to authorize when you try to play your content.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

Try the waveform zoom slider. Recording louder just to get a better visible waveform would be, well, silly.
From the manual: (click on links to see pics)
To change the zoom level using the Waveform Zoom button
Click-hold the Waveform Zoom button. A slider appears.
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/Art/S01/S0185_WaveZoom.png
Drag the slider. As you do, the waveform shown in all audio regions, and in the Beat Mapping track, is increased or decreased in size.

  • Pavilion DV6 no longer plays any audio. I am a Windows 7 user Premium 64 Bit OS...any solutions?

I am running a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC with serial number: {Private Information Removed} and product number: A1U59AV#ABA.
There was a bios update automatically performed on my machine on the 30th of Oct. and since then, my audio has not worked.
    Please advise.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let windows fully load and then check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • Is it possible to install windows 8.1 on macbook pro late 2013?

    hi ,
Is it possible to install windows 8.1 on late 2013 macbook pro?
I have tried installing it twice but both of the time i got an error
Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed.

Maybe people have found a solution already but yesterday I managed to install Win 8.1 as a BootCamp on my new 15" retina MBP.  I followed the steps John Guo described but with a couple of changes as his approach failed for me.
    1. Make sure you are starting from a single partition.
    2. Create the Windows install USB from the ISO and also allow BootCamp Assistant to create download the drivers - but untick the option to install windows.
    3. Open Disk Utility and create a new partition and format as MS-DOS (FAT) rather than leave as free space.
    4. Restart your Mac and use the option to boot into the Windows part of the USB not the EFI-boot.
    5. Follow the install
    6. When it comes to the drive selection select the FAT drive. Windows installer will say it cannot install here as it needs to be and NTFS partitiion (in previous atempts I always got the message to say the partitiion was using GUI partition table so could not install even though it was formatted to NTFS).
    7. The format to NTFS should work fine and install proceed.
    8. When the installer reboots the machine you will need to use the boot option to ensure you boot back into Windows.
    9. Once installed the bootcamp driver install runs automatically and for me all drivers run fine even the NVIDIA, which I've seen some people mention having issues with.
I was inpressed with Windows automatically scaling the text to 200%, which meant it was using the full 2880x1800 resolution so everything was crisp but the windows and text was scaled nicely. I changed this 150% to give me some more real estate.
I'm guessing that by formatting the new partition as FAT it creates a MBP within the new drive that is writable by windows but I'm not a windows guru so this is a guess. But anyway, this work perfectly.
    hope this helps some people.

    Hi
I had some problems with an upgrade to Win 8.1 in the past...
Finally I managed to install the Windows 8.1 update after the notebook has been set back to factory settings.
Im not quite sure if this needs to be done in your case, but in case the Win 8.1 update would not be possible after installation of all windows updates, you should reset the PC back to factory settings. After that the upgrade should works.
