No Audio Device -- Error number: 0x80040

I did?the recommended Microsoft update?and I installed the new Internet Explorer version 7. After that, my sounds and audio does not work. I get the "No Audio Device" message in the "Microsoft Sounds and Audio Device". All controls?apear in a gray ligth color and nothing works. After doing many troubleshooting actions, I decided to unistall and re-install all the Creative software/drivers (I have the original disks). But after doing so, I now get an error (Error number: 0x8004020) that does not let me complete unistall nor install the software again to fix any problems. Then, I tried to download patches from the Creative site but when I tried to download software, I get a message saying?the hardware cannot be located. I took out the sound card (Creative Li've 5. digital - model #SB0220) and?plug it back in. Still the problem persists. I have no Audio ("No Audio Device") and now?it seems I?cannot have the drivers install. Is there any solution or repair action available?Thank you.

i have the same problem. there is a program that works. it calls KX project.. it works.. i have too. but i think the music not even powerfull as the original program. my bass it not loud enough.. with KX can i not turn it up.. only with my system. :S mayby is there a other alternatief program.. sorry for the complicaded english

When Audio Console launched, Unable to find audio device error message comes

When I launch audio console, I get an error message saying:
"Unable to find audio device. Please make sure that your audio device is enabled and installed with its driver. This application will be closed."
This can't be right because my soundblaster audigy 2 ZS platinum card is installed, its working, I can hear things etc.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the audio console software package from creative and that fixed the problem for a very short while and it is now reoccurring.
I've had this same setup for several years with no issues, now all of a sudden, this is happening.
Anyone out there had similar challenges?

Most probably you don't have passed the correct root= option to the kernel so that the kernel cannot, as it says, find its root device. Read the wiki page about refind in order to know how to configure it (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/REFInd). Refind as no fully automatic configuration like grub.

Tomahawk Player - Sporadic "Problem Accessing Audio Device" Errors

Hi, I have recently started using Tomahawk Player in GNOME and some songs from external sources can play and others receive an error that states:
"Sorry, there is a problem accessing your audio device. Make sure you have a suitable Phonon backend and required plugins installed."
However, I have phonon, phonon-gstreamer, and phonon-vlc installed.
How can I further diagnose this?

That is unfortunately a not-very-helpful error message as it could mask a variety of problems. One of those problems is that it might happen if Tomahawk is unable to play the url for the track---what source has it resolved to? (rightmost column)?

You have a couple of options as I see it.
First disconnect the Battery & Ac Adapter then press and hold the power button on the unit for 30 second then check by powering on the unit.
Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

Export Embedded AAF Error - "Cannot embed audio source error number -2147483647"

I have a sequence that I need to send to an audio post house running ProTools. We have agreed to send an AAF for delivery. The sequence I have prepped looks like this:
- All video and video tracks deleted (except V1);
- All audio effects & volume removed;
- All audio transitions removed.
I export the sequence, am presented with a choice to embed the media into the AAF:
It runs and begins to build the AAF but I get this error message: "Cannot embed audio source "/Volume/...." because an error occurred when writing essence data. Premiere ASL error number: -2147483647".
What is causing this error and how can I prevent this from happening? It is very frustrating and causing a lot of trouble.
I should mention that I can export an OMF fine with "encapsulated media".

Hi. I have a nomad zen xtra 30 gb. I am still learning how to use it. Here's where I went wrong. I unplugged in my mp3 player into my computer before installing the software.

Now, I can only load the Creative Media Source Organizer. I have tried to load the Creative Nomad Explorer but I can't. I've tried uninstalling, manually deleting Creative files, and modifying & repairing creative files to no avail. Help! I am not a techie. Always, Error Number 0X8004020 Description: An event was unable to invoke any of the subcribers.
Also, Is it possible to store photos on my nomad? In the instruction manual it says it's possible and to use the Nomad Explorer tool however, I can't load it on my comp. Always, that awful that Error Number 0X8004020.

I'm experiencing this same error in Vista and the solution listed does not help. The solution claims that the uninstall should execute cleanly when running in safe mode without generating the error in question, yet even in safe mode, 0x8004020 taunts me. Any ideas? I'd just like to be able to remove this neatly.

Windows Media player can't find device/ error number C00D1179 - F

This is a fix for the error where windows recognizes and installs the Creative Zen Micro running the version 2.X firmware (or any other MTP device) but neither windows media or creative's software can see it.
How I got this error to begin with...
I had to replace my zen micro because of a headphone jack problem that seems to be very common. It still amazes me that a company that obviously invested tons of money into developing a device like this would let something as stupid as a poorly designed headphone jack ruin it... When I tried to sync my new zen micro I exchanged for at the store, it recognized the initial device firmware. I upgraded to the 2.X firmware and it worked until the device rebooted with the new firmare. At this point, the firmware program couldn't see it even though windows had given me the whole "New Hardware Found" thing and asked me if i wanted to sync with WMP. No other programs could find it either. I tried numerous things to get it to work, but here is what finally worked. This may not fix all the issues of this type but I suspect it will fix most of them.
As this problem is Microsoft's and not Creatives, any device running PlaysForSure (I think "plays if your really lucky" is a better name) I looked at other device forums. I found this post that got me looking in the right place.

Step six said to look at the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
This made me look more carefully and realize that I had four Creative Zen Micro entries, confusing my computer into not syncing. The solution is below:
***WARNING- EDITING THE REGISTRY CAN REALLY SCREW UP YOUR COMPUTER!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
. Unplug the device
2. Open Regedit by Start -> run, regedit
3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB
4. You will see a bunch of folders with incoherent letters and numbers. Expand these once to see another unreadable folder. When you click on this, you'll see a FriendlyName field on the right side. If it says Creative Zen Micro or whatever your device is, delete the higher level incoherent folder, it should start with VID.
5. Plug your device back in and let it reinstall
6. Hopefully it will say docked when you open windows media player
This may not fix all problems of this nature. If it doesn't, look at the link in the earlier part of this post.
BTW, Creative support, we aren't all idiots who don't realize that we don't have WMP0 installed. If we tell you it worked before and stopped working now, and also included a microsoft debug file clearly showing that there is something very strange going on, don't send us a stupid thing to check like whether WMP0 is installed and make us wait 24 hours for the next useless response.

Yamaha AC-XG audio device error "code 10" on Satellite Pro 6100

Please can someone help.
I am not getting any sound from my laptop.
In Device Manager and under the properties for the Yamaha AC-XG device it says it cannot start and quotes an error "Code 10".
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I still have the same problem.
Can anyone tell me what Code 10 is and how to fix the problem.

I got all drivers up to date including the BIOS, everything is working fine (the sound works, microphone works...) but this error is kind of annoying to my eyes so if anyone know how to fix it please help.
I tried to uninstall this and let windows update install it again => not worked, same problem.
I tried to re-install the Realtek driver (uninstall - restart machine - install - restart machine) => same problem
And another probelm which has not been solved yet is the Bluetooth icon keep blinking on battery mode (windows 7), you can see more in this thread

What kind of reinmstall did you perform? If you used the recovery media, then this will be pretty simple. Boot to the recovewry media again and this time select the Reinstall drivers and applications option. Find the audio driver on the list of available drivers, put a tick in the box to its left and then click on the install button in the lower right hand corner of the window. The driver will be installed. Your list will be different than the following one, but this is only an example.

Audio Stream Recorder - Error: Audio device is already being used by another prog

I realized that Audio Stream Recorder is does not "work" through server list feature. So I am simply trying to use the manual method of adding URL's to the interface. However regardless of the type of stream, shoutcast, windows media or real audio, I receive the error "audio device is already being used by another program". Does anyone know how to fix this? I have closed my audio application etc to no avail. <RANT WARNING> I was very excited about using this application when I read about it. However an application that provides none of the stated features is not an application, its false advertising, since it clearly states on the box, help files and website this products "features". Anyway, it'ss very disappointing. Also, does anyone know what the supported steaming formats are, the help file say the application requires RealONE and Windows Media Player but does not mention audio stream formats? I have the same issue. I updated to the latest software, to no avail. My first suspicion is that some Microsoft patch caused this, but I cannot verify this.
Apparently no one at Creative is very interested in this issue.

HP High Definition Audio Device Code 10 Error -- Causing HDMI Sound Problem

Hey guys, my laptop is an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC, running Windows 8.1.
When I connect my laptop to my LG Smart TV through HDMI, I cant change the playback device to play the sound from the TV. The HDMI option does not appear in ¨Sound¨.
When I look in Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers; the High Definition Audio CODEC has an error which says (Device status):
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.
I have tried reinstalling and updating the drivers, cleaning and defraging the registry, optimizations etc.
I followed steps from other posts with similar problem as mine and nothing seems to work, I do not want to reinstall my windows just for this! I am running out of options, I tried everything I could for the past week. I would really appreciate some expert advice.

I may have already resolved this issue buy removing the device from my computer and re-pairing it. It is currently working just fine.

CUPC - "Phone Error. Could not place call because you have no audio device or sound card."

Periodically throughout the day, CUPC will not make or receive calls, but instead presents a dialog box with the message "Phone Error. Could not place call because you have no audio device or sound card." See attachment.
Signing out of and back into CUPC resolves the issue temporarily.
I have version 8.6.2 installed and I'm using a USB headset.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have mine set to plug:plugequal as I use an equalizer with alsa, but when I set it to default it works fine, try that.

Audio driver error, code 10 error & Media device missing Error in Presario C772TU

I am Manikandan.D working in BOSCH India and new user for this forum.
I am having presario C7712TU model laptop, recently i reinstalled my Xp OS service pack 2.
after that i reinstalled all drivers, but it showing some error in audio device driver.
the error code is 10 and it is telling "media device missing"
I have installed UAA driver + conexant HD audio driver
Moreover i couldnt find any wireless LAN icon in network connection tab.
could any body help me..Since i am in Germany..Now helpless!

Yesterday i have installed Atheros driver...Now my wifi also turned on without any problem.
I think you doing great job for all the people. keep the same spirit and continue the support!
this has to be appreciated! why because some people they will break the head for the system problem.
you are giving solution for the headache not for the system!!!
