No audio from clips

I just downloaded the Trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and when I import a clip, i'm not getting any audio, not even anything showing up in the 'Audio Master Meter'
I do get audio when I import a .mp3 file
HELP pleeease, this is very irritating!

Can you share the specs. of those Imported Clips, and especially the Audio CODEC inside?
Now, there is a common reason for Audio to either not show up, or perhaps be truncated - failure to complete Conforming. This ARTICLE goes into more detail. As PrPro edits/plays back from the Conformed Audio files (CFA's), the Conforming process is very important.
Good luck, and please let us know a bit more,
Hunt

How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

I can tell you a work around to get you going in the meantime, just may be time consuming if you have a lot of clips in the timeline.
double click a clip missing audio
press the go to in point and copy the timecode to notepad
press the go to end point and copy timecode
right click clip, and reveal in project
double click the original in project
paste in timecode and set in & out points again
    drag audio
As I said not the quickest way, but it works, and won't actually take as long as you'd think, 30 secs or so per clip, i just hope you don't have over 100 clips without audio

  • Can't import audio from clip into Premiere Pro CC.

I can export a clip, with audio, from Premiere Pro, but when I import it back into PP the audio track is missing.  I noticed that when I delete the .xmp file from the file folder the audio will import with the clip successfully.  Can someone please instruct me as to how I can edit the .xmp file so as to correct this problem?  Thanks.

I export a clip using the "match sequence settings".
Mmm, don't ever use that.  It's for people who don't know what they're doing, and often causes more problems that it solves.
Better to know what you're doing and set up your export manually.  Try that, then report back what happens.

  • Removing Audio from clip

Ok, I just got FCE for X-mas and I am completely lost. I need to know how to remove the audio from the clip, and/or how to edit the audio seperately than the video.

    Hi John.
There are many ways. Probably the simplest is to highlight the audio in the timeline and press the Delete key.
However, if you are new to FCE you will have an extremely steep learning curve ahead of you and I would forget about making a serious film for at least a month!
You should get a simple step by step instruction book.
I can thoroughly recommend Tom Wolsky's book - "Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop".
It is very "user-friendly" and guides you easily through all the steps. You are told exactly what to do and why. It's the next best thing to having a tutor sitting alongside you.
Tom is also one of the main contributors to this forum, so is available should you have any problems.
Don't be put off by the FCE 2 name - it works for FCE HD just as well.
You can get it from Amazon. It is well worth the money and will save you from countless hours of frustration - which will almost certainly happen if you struggle on alone.

  • Use audio from clip in other parts of sequence

I inserted some photos in my sequence but I do not have any audio playing while the pictures are rolling. I would like to use some of the audio portions of my other clips to put "below" the still pictures.
    How do I do this?
    Thank you,
    Ildiko

There are three ways that I can think of at the moment to do this:
    1. Unpatch your video tracks so that the v1 button is not adjoined to the V1, then drag a clip from the viewer to the overwrite/insert selection on the canvas.
    2. Lock your video tracks (by hitting the lock button on the left), then drag a clip from the viewer to the canvas or timeline.
    3. Select just the audio from another clip already in the timeline by holding down Option and clicking it, then copy and paste it somewhere else.

  • Static in entire video after detaching audio from clips

After exporting, I was having some audio/video sync issues with my 1 hour and 38 min movie.
It was suggested that I detach the audio from the clips...so I tried it on my 6 minute preview with good success.  I exported the preview and the sync problem was fixed.
So I started detaching the audio to fix the regular 1h 38m movie.  I got through most of the clips and then went back to play a certain section of the movie...and I noticed that now there is a bunch of static in the entire movie.
How do I get rid of the static?
This also has seemed to really slow the project down.  Anything I try to do on the project and iMovie just tanks.

    Thanks for your reply Geoff,
I basically have a soundtrack 3.28 minutes long which I want to be the only noise thats playing throughout my interchanging video clips, so I would like to completley move the audio from the all of the indivdual video clips that I am adding in, I thought the 'detatch audio' button would be the one for this, but as I continuously play back bits of the movie to prefect editing I can still slightly hear the sound from the individual videos that I am adding?
So frustrating, but Im sure thats its something real basic that I am missing.....

  • Return removed audio from clips

I added clips to the videotrack, removed the audio from it. How to return the audio back? Thx. Sorry for eng.

Select clip and position playhead over clip, hit F for Match Frame.
Source clip will open in Source Monitor.
Now you can drag the audio or do an overwrite.

  • Detaching Audio from clip from the film library panel?

I was wondering if anyone knows how to grab video only from the film library panel. I want to just pull video and not audio as I layout video only out onto my timeline and don't want to hasstle through detaching audio from each clip in the timeline. Does anyone know how to do this? I know Adobe Premier lets you do this but I'm fairly new to FCP and would like to know

Unchecking the audio in the sequence so that source/left A1 isn't connected(not touching) to timeline/right A1 will ensure audio is not added to the the a1 track.
In Premiere 5.5 if you unhighlight a1(source/left) and A1(timeline/right) no audio will be added to that track.
If you unconnect A1 & A2 in the sequence  audio will never be added to timeline whether you drag a clip from a bin or insert/overwrite from the viewer window.

  • No audio from clips from camera

I am using iMovie HD 6 and I have transferred my clips from cam corder. The problem I am having is that I am manually dragging video clips from my camera to iMovie and the clips go in except they have no audio. Any solutions to this problem would be great...

What kind of camcorder are we talking about? I suspect this isn't a tape based MiniDV type camera, right? And instead you are importing from some sort of DVD, Flash, or hard drive based camera? If so are the videos in MPEG format when you add them to iMovie?
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos they sometimes only get the video and no sound since iMovie (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.
Here is an article explaining it when you try to convert video to iPod format...
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • No audio from clips importen to versjon 9.0.7

Does anyone have an answer to why the audio is missing from AIC files imported to iMovie 11 9.0.7? After I upgraded to Mountain Lion and the latest version of iMovie, my repacked AVCHD files are missing audio. They sound perfectly good in QuickTime, but not in the editor.

    Hi Jenn,
Thanks for the information on your 2 computers. At least iMovie works OK on the iMac running Snow Leopard with iMovie '11 (9.0.4).
Trashing iMovie's preference file will often fix problems. In some circumstances the preference file can become corrupted.
On your Mac Mini, go to your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences (not the Library folder at the top level in Macintosh HD). As you are on Lion (Mac OS X 10.7.4), unlike earlier versions the User Library folder is hidden (as it is on Mountain Lion). To access it, click on Go in the Finder menu bar, then press and hold down the Option key - the Library folder will appear in the drop down list, enabling you to access it.
In the Library/Preferences folder, locate a file named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist". With iMovie closed, drag this file to the Desktop. When next opened, iMovie will create a fresh preference file with the default settings. If iMovie now runs OK (and audio is working), you can change the default settings in the menu item "IMovie>Preferences" if desired. Also, it's now safe to drag the old preference file to the Trash. Trashing the file will not harm your existing Events or Projects. This may not fix the audio problem but is worth a try.
Sorry if this sounds obvious, but I guess you've checked that the volume hasn't been muted in the Event (use the Inspector to check). Can you hear audio when playing music through iTunes, or other audio generally? Or is it just isolated to iMovie?
Another thing to try: In Finder, navigate to your imported Event in the folder Home (your User)/Movies/iMovie Events. You will see all the Event clips with the extension .mov - these will be in Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) format. Open a clip in QuickTime and check whether the audio can be heard. If so, clearly there is a problem with iMovie. At least this will tell us whether or not the audio is being imported properly and will help to narrow down the problem.

  • Releasing audio from clips

Have a project in iMovie V9.0.4 with audio and have detached it successfully from the clip. However, when reducing clip length the audio follows, indicating both are still tied together. What is desired is to reduce clip length and have the audio remain as it was.
    Is this possible?
    Help would be appreciated.

You need to make sure that your project is at least as long as the audio clip you want. If you have a 30 second audio clip and a 20 second video clip in your project, the audio will be shortened to match the video. The audio is still there. If you add some video clips or photos, you should see the audio reappear.
If necessary, you can add some placeholder clips to your project. You can find some placeholder clips (animatics) and some colored backgrounds under the Maps button on the middle toolbar.

  • Remove Audio from Clip Problems

Ok, I know how to do it. The only problem is, in between different clips in which the audio has removed, you might hear just a flash of the audio as it was on there. Not long, just a split second of a buzz or a tap or something in between clips.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

Hi Bad Mac - do you have transitions between the clips? That sometimes creates the effect you describe. A suggested solution in that case is to extract the audio before applying the transition. Note that extraction does not 'remove' the audio - it merely copies it, and mutes the original. You could try raising then re-muting the audio to see if that does away with the 'blip'.
    Others may have better suggestions.

  • How can i leave audio from one clip playing, while showing another one in i

i am editing a movie, using iMovie 08, and want to use sound for a clip in the video for the end credits. how can i do this?
just to be clear, i am not trying to add audio. i am trying to leave the audio from ONE CLIP playing, while viewing a new frame. thanks.

This is simple in iMovie 11 (drag and drop), but in iMovie 08, you can still do it.

  • Separate audio from video clip in ios imovie?

I'm thinking this is impossible w iMovie app? I want to extend audio from clip into next clip but cant separate to control.  Do I need to go btw FCPx & IOS apps?

IOs is not a desktop replacement, and I think apps (especially video editing apps) will not rival or be as powerful as desktop apps anytime soon.
THat said you should look at other video ending apps out the and you will see there is much more powerful editors then iMovie.
Just as iMovie is a weak editor on the Mac (compared to avid or FCP), it is a simple video app on ios.
YOu cannot compare iMovie iOS with FCP, just like you can't compare iMovie Mac with FCP.

    Question ???
I see that the command " extract audio from clip" is not correct.
ìn fact, the audio extracted is only duplicate on a second track, but the original audio track with a low the sound level remain into the clip.

    to CATSPAW
Sorry, but it is not the right way for my problem.
    What is it ?
I make family's or trip's movies on DVD: each movie has a during time about 1 hour.
All process was very efficiency with iMovie 4 and iDVD4: the produced DVD are OK.
So, I overgraded these softs with iMovie 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.1: then some difficulties occurs.
I have made a great number of tests in order to determine what is the disturbing factor, and in other part, I consult the forum apple discussion with the DVD5's topic " incident when burning DVD".
In spite of their help, iDVD works very badly, but also I do'nt understand why!!
    1/ TEST serie "a":
With a sample of 2mn timeline of iMovie5, footage composed of video, photo, transition, effect, text, kern burn's effect, Still-life ' effects, mixing of original audio from camera and added audio from Cd or iTunes, with chapter markers...and so on, I put this into iDVD5 , and this is able to encode correctly the menu of iDVD, the video from iMovie and the resulting audio from iMovis so. Well, all correct with an imagedisk production.
    2/ Test serie "B":
the same process than "A" but with a sample of 20 mn timeline.
On 8 individal cases, 7 are perfect with an imagedisk production, but one has bring to a crash of iDVD at the beginning of the audio encoding process.
    3/ test serie "C"
Always the same process, but with a sample of 40mn timeline.
On 3 individual cases, it was impossible to do working iDVD correctly !
Always, the crash occurs at the beginning of the audio encoding process, whereas the video encoding process is correct.
I beleive that it is ,may be, a kind of incoherence when iDVD is reading the two audio tracks: the one which is inside the clip, and the other on the audio line.
Because this fact, I search a process to put out the audio track which lies inside each clip of iMovie: with iMovie 4, it was possible and easy, but with iMovie 5, it seem to me that more complicated.
The tools of iMovie5 in order to remove the sound out of clip are:
    - command: extract audio from clip = only the level of sound is the lowest possible , but the track is not eliminated. If I put the extracted audio into the trash and drain it, I have the same result.
    - the small box "invalided track" of vidéo line : same effect.
    - dropping audio to zero: same effect.
In fact, it is impossible to put out this audio track ?????
Now, I think that this track is the responsable of disturbance of iDVD.
Your process, by loading each clip in QT pro, extrating audio, and reloading iMovie is correct, but not easy to work with a long timeline. And, also, it is not possible to fluctuate between the inside audio track and added audio: for exemple, to remove the undesirable noises and to preserve an amical speech of a friend.
Another question: why these crashes of iDVD occurs with a long timeline and not with the short one??? May be is the overall power of my Mac which is too slight??? In that case, I will be obliged to buy a QUAD Apple Power Mac G5 Dual Core 2,5 GHz, as FERRARI video set ????
    So long;
