No audio from line out

hi,
my audio works with internal speaker but nothing from line out when selected in sound controls. In audio midi setup, i do not appear to have any control on the master volume for line out, (its stuck at 0) i am suspecting a driver problem - May have been overwritten or deleterd when I tried to install Parallels 7 - now uninstalled
cheers
Mac

What do you have connected to line out?
Line out is designed to be the input to amplifiers and not speakers.

  • No audio from line out port

hello, i am using plug-powered speakers on my powermac g5 using the front headphone port. the speakers work fine this way, but when i use them on the line out port in the back, i get a high pitched hissing sound and very quiet audio. the computer detects the speakers, and i am sure i'm using the output port ] ))) and not the input port >o<. how can i get the speakers to work from the line out port so i don;t have to use the front headphones port? thanks!

i have a question. if i have standard apple ipod headphones, and use them on the rear audio out port, will i get the same sound as the headphones port on the front?
i still can't get this to work. i'm starting to believe this is a hardware problem, all the settings are identical for audio out and headphones in audio MIDI setup, but i'm still not getting any sound when i use the rear.

  • No audio from built-out speakers on my Mac book pro

no audio from built-out speakers on my Macbook pro, but with external headphones or speakers it does work. I see a red light inside the audio line-out port when you disconnect devices. What can I do?

    The internal switch is stuck.
Insert the earphone jack several times.
Blow real hard into the audio output ort.
Take a toothpick and jiggle inside the audio output port.
If no success, visit the Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • 2009 Mac Pro no audio out from Line Out and/or Digital Out.

Hey guys, I recently bought a new tv which has an optical input and thought I'd buy an optical cable to connect it to my Mac Pro's (4.1 model 2009 I believe) digital out port which I have never used before .
The issue I'm facing since is that I can't get out from my mac pro to my tv. I also bought a cable to direct sound from my mac pro's line out, to my tv's red/white stero audio ports. That didn't work either.
When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out while when I switch to line out output I can control volume but no audio is coming from my TV.
I've been searching on forums and didn't find any relevant answer so if someone knows what may cause this that'd be really helpful.
*ALSO: I've got windows 8 instaleld on my mac pro as well. The digital out doesn't work there as well although the line out does send sound to the TV.
** I also have soundflower installed and perian although I don't think any of them would mess things up like that.
Do you think this is a problem with my Mac or is this a common Mavericks issue (sorry forgot to mention I'm on 10.9.2)
    Many Thanks,
    Thanos.

When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out
That's normal.  Is the correct audio input selected on the TV?

  • Recording audio from line-in

When I start recording, Captivate switches automaticly from
line-in (where my input device is) to microphone. Captivate forgets
my configuration, which I set under "Audio" / "Options". How can I
get live capturing using line-in? When I edit single foils line-in
    works fine.
    Thanks. Mathias.

    Hi again Mathias,
The "line-in" problem was noticed a long time ago but since I
    use a standard headset-microphone-to-mic-port configuration, I am
uncertain whether this was fixed with the "dot" release last year
    (upgrading version 1.0.0 to 1.0.1).
Check to be sure you have the last release, Mathias. "Help
    > About" will give you the version and build numbers ... if you
are using the English language localization, your build should be
#1418 (vice #1188 I believe). If it is not, you might benefit from
the free download for the last release.
P.S. If you are using a localization for another language,
you'll have to find out the current situation for that version -
sorry, but I'm only familiar with the English-language version. I
imagine that Adobe Support might be able to help, in that case. . .

  • How do you route the line-in audio to line-out on Mac Pro (10.6.8)?

New to Mac. Seems like it should be a straight forward deal, but it's not obvious how to make this happen.  I can tell the audio is coming in, as the input levels are reflected under System Pref's.  But I can't hear the audio on the line-out speakers and there doesn't seem to be an option to explicity route the audio.  Probablly missing something simple.  Any help would be appreciated.

You can do this without buying or using 3rd party s/w. Use GarageBand this way:
    1. New, Empty Project
    2. On the next screen, choose:
         a. Audio, Line In
         b. Input 1+2
         c. Check the "I want to hear my instrument as I play and record" option
         d. "My instrument is connected with:" - Built-in Input
         e. "I hear sound from;" - Built-in Output
         f. Click "Create"
    3. You should immediately hear sound; you don't have to record anything.
    4. If you don't see green bars on both the Audio 1 track and the master volume (top right), something is either wrong with your input or the steps didn't work for you. To redo the steps, choose "Track, Delete Track" from the menu and try again.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that all of the needed volume controls are up high enough to hear something:
    1. Audio 1 volume and Master Volume sliders in GarageBand
    2. Volume slider on Apple main menu, speaker icon not muted
    3. Volume on input device (e.g. iPhone)
    See how you go
P.S. I do it on a mac mini but it shouldn't be any different

  • No output from line out 1 and 3, audig

A while ago, I observed no sound coming from several speakers in our 5. sound system. 2 of the speakers provide sound. Also running windows xp and audigy 4.
I followed the trouble shooting guide using headphones and have no sound card ouput from lines and 3. Line 2 provides output.
We are using a 5. speaker system and individually plugged each of the 3 lines from the speaker system into line 2 out from the sound card and all the speakers sound good.
uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers 5.2.6.6?
The troubleshooting guide mentions a "digital only output" toggle under the volume advanced tab. I searched the sound and audio device properties utility from top to bottom but can't find the toggle.
I am not sure what to do regarding further troubleshooting. Please advise.
    Regards,
    Jer?

Never mind: focus was on the wrong computer on the KVM.

  • Music from line-out, but effects from internal speakers?

Why is it that I have line-out selected as my output source for audio, and music can be played through it, but for a week now, sound effects like those from mail, are coming from the internal speakers?
I guess it could be a cool feature if it was something you could control, but this is definitely a bug as it is now. Can someone offer me a suggestion for this issue? Switching audio output and then back doesn't work (although it has worked for me in the past with 10.4).

I am experiencing the same problem. About a week ago (I didn't install any updates or anything) all my sound effects (mail, ichat, etc) started coming through the internal speakers even though I have my soundsticks selected for all output.
I've repaired permissions, rebooted, and tried all sorts of configurations in the sound portion of system preferences to no avail.
    I'm running 10.5.2 on a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24"iMac with 3G of RAM.
    Any help much appreciated.

  • No sound from Line out on X-Fi El

I have lost my sound from the Line Outs on a X-Fi elite. Or rather I can hear it but only if the volume is a 00% and then it is very poor quality. I have been using the Headphone Jack on the breakout box and this is my first time trying the Line Out. Can somebody tell me if the Line out is supposed to be a true low power Line out or is it capable of powering unpowered speakers or some small headphones. It seems to me that headphones should work fine from the Line out, so what do you suppose my problem is? I have checked the normal (IRQ, Drivers, default device, volumes, etc.). Any ideas? I'm running an MSI Nforce3 250gb board.
    thanks...

    mr. kat,
unfortunately, I don't have Playcenter -- I downloaded the file from Creative, and am met with the same message I receive when attempting to install Creative Recorder on win XP: nothing to upgrade, so no go on the install. I don't know how to get the data onto win XP in order for it to be upgraded. :0
I do remember there being CMSS back when I ran this device with my win98 computer, and that probably has something to do with it. I don't have EAX console either, but I do have the EAX Control Panel (aka Audio HQ) and there were no CMSS features there.
I have heard that one can use the SB Audigy installation with their SB Li've! cards and it will work -- have you heard anything to that effect?
    Thanks,
    mono

  • Audio alone line-out good...Audio w/video line-out weak

Trying my new 5th gen iPod today on my home audio system.
Using a 3mm miniplug to the line-out on the Universal Dock, audio by itself is very good, bumping the LCDs on my old Sansui equalizer all over the place.
Using the same connection and playing back Michael Jackson's Thriller video, the audio is so week that it doesn't even bump up a single LCD. (Note: volume is set to max on the iPod.)
    What gives?
    iMac G4 20-inch flat panel   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   30GB iPod; 60GB iPod, both 5th Gen models

You might want to right click that file in iTunes and go to get info. Click the options tab. See if adjusting the volume level there and then syncing your iPod helps.
    Merry Christmas

  • Kona 3 running on Win7 (PP CS6.02) sometimes audio from analog out of breakout box, sometimes not

I am using a Kona 3 with break out box running the most recent drivers.  It is on an HP Z820 PC running Win 7 SP1. I take the 2 analog audio outs of the BO box and feed it to a speaker preamp. I have used this approach over the years with FCP and now PP. It recently (CS6.0) has become unreliable.  The meters in PP indicate a signal. I can take the PC audio out and feed it to the preamp and the audio is great. Sometimes if I reboot the system the audio from the Kona 3 BO box returns, sometimes it doesnt.
I will be calling AJA to pursue this problem.

I contacted AJA about this issue and this was their response...
At this time, we don't have AJA Adobe plug-ins for PP CS6.0.2 version. My understanding is that if you click into the PP source window and back to the timeline may fix the audio issue as a workaround.  We are expecting the release of the AJA plug-ins very soon.

  • Soft route audio from line in thru to headphones /  Audio Midi Setup

    howdy,
I am trying route audio from the line-in jack to the headphone jack. It seems that this should be possible using audio midi setup but the "thru" buttons don't respond to mouse clicks. Any ideas? The shareware program "Line-in" works but I only get audio on the left channel.
    thnaks, Dan

to answer my own question, the through routing is possible using GarageBand. I'd still be interested to seeif anyone knows how AMS is supposed to work.

so would that be an issue in windows? how do i go about soring it's
Hmm... by logging on w/ full administrator rights.
Maybe disabling XP security options totally while installing drivers hel
    ps.
Also, if you have some realtime protectord like antivirus, etc. you can disable those too. Maybe installing on safe mode helps too. When you disable security it's better if you plug your system out from network.

  • No audio from line output or headphone output.

My MacPro suddenly has no audio coming out the line and headphone outputs. Nothing has changed on the configuration, and I've checked the settings in the Sound preferences.
I'm hoping there's something easy to fix, but I fear this may require a trip to the repair shop.
    Any suggestions?

Same here. Weird thing is I have Bootcamp/Windows XP installed and the jacks work fine when booted into windows.
