No Audio From STB

I have a CHS 335HDC STB and I'm using an HDMI cable to connect it to my Vizio 39" Class LED Smart T.V. MODEL NUMBER: E390I-A1. I can get audio perfectly fine from watching Netflix on it from one of the apps and from my computer as well but not from the STB. I have checked if it was on mute and if the cords were connected right I have tried 3 different HDMI cables and different connection ports on my T.V. but have had no luck. The only time I can get audio is if I unplug the STB completely from the outlet wait 15 seconds and re-insert the HDMI cable and turn it back on but the audio only lasts for about a minute before shutting off again. I have tested it on many different channels HD and not HD but the same problem is still happening. I read online about accessing a user settings menu to change the audio from dvi/hdmi to hdmi only but I can't seem to access the menu. If anyone has a similar problem to this or knows how to fix this please help thank you.

I have the same STB and have no problems with the audio--I have a Sony Bravia HDTV. I just checked the Audio options and via the FiOS TV remote:
STB Menu button > Settings > Audio:
1. Set-Top-Box Volume - mine is set to 35
2. Audio Format - mine is set to "Stereo"
3. Volume Control - mine is set to "Variable"
4. Dynamic Range - mine is set to "Heavy"
5. Audio Alerts - mine is set to "Off"
I don't see any sort of option in the FiOS stb Settings that  "...change the audio from dvi/hdmi to hdmi...". Is that setting perhaps on your TV's settings menu? If so, my guess is those settings would only work when you are viewing the tv via the "TV" Input option and I'm not sure what impact, if any, the setting would have when watching through the stb. To be able to select and use "TV" Input, you need to attach a coax cable from the tv's RF coax connector to the stb's RF coax connector--I did this because I need closed captions due to my hearing loss and sometimes if there is a problem with the closed captioning via the stb (Input = HDMI or Component), I switch to "TV" Input and the closed captions display properly.
If I'm remembering correctly, I found that the "Dynamic Range" setting seemed to play a large role in the audio quality and that--for me at least--the "Heavy" setting seemed best although my hearing loss might play a role in that. What are your settings for the above stb options?

  • Alarming news on optical audio from STB!

I have a Verizon stb QIP 7232-2, a Sony (Bravia) HDTV, a Sony BlueRay player, an AM/FM receiver, a CD player, and an AudioSource soundbar with inputs for oprical audio, mini-plug audio, and stereo audio. The configuration is as follows:
STB connected to HDTV via HDMI cable, BlueRay connected to TV via HDMI cable, BlueRay connected to AudioSource soundbar via optical audio cable (works well), STB connected to AudioSource soundbar via optical audio cable and NO sound is generated.
After 3 days of searching online, forums, Verizon support, etc., I initiated a support chat with Verizon today. The exchange is below, but the astonishing part of it is that I was told that ALL VERIZON STBs are disabled and cannot be enabled! My question about why Verizon would choose to limit functionality and ultimately the user experience of excellent sound was never answered. Also, if all optical audio ports are disabled, why would Verizon hide this from users and actually tout the various connection options?  For what reason would I be told that this port cannot be enabled? My research reveals that COMCAST does not have this issue. Never mind that the manual touts the various connectivity options and displays wiring diagrams that include the Optical audio port.

Your Question:I have searched Verizon, and the entire Internet!!! Most frustrating is the runaround I get on the Verizon website. I NEED A HUMAN! My optical audio from the STB QIP7232-2 to AudioSource S3D60 does not work. I tried alternate cables, STB, and connections. Also I can't get STB diagnostics to display.

John(19:40:11): Ms. Rogers, may I know were you able to access the optical audio port earlier?
Carol(19:43:57): access? it's on the back of the STB and noted as a feature! I have not tried to use it prior to this week. I purchased the soundbar to enhance our TV/Blueray experience. I purchased an optical toslink cable (actually 3) and attempted to connect everything. THere is a light in the cable when connected to the stb, but no audio. The cable and the soundbar both work successfully with the blueray player AND an old Technics stereo am/fm receiver
Carol(19:44:40): and my iPod via a miniplug
John(19:45:11): Ideally the Optical toslink port is disabled for all the boxes.
    Carol(19:45:23): why?
John(19:45:59): Ms. Rogers, only the coaxial, HDMI, Component and composite ports are enabled on the set top box.
    Carol(19:46:12): again, why?
    Carol(19:46:22): can it be enabled?
John(19:46:52): Unfortunately, we do not have the option to enable them.
Carol(19:47:18): and why wouldn't you tell your customers that this port is disabled BEFORE one purchases a home theater or soundbar.
    Carol(19:47:46): that's crazy - you can't enable. AGAIN, WHY?
Carol(19:48:24): I understand from days of research that COMCAST does not have this problem.
Carol(19:48:35): Really - this is how you serve your customers?
John(19:49:11): Carol, we would have provided the answer for why it is disabled.
John(19:49:26): However, on the QI{ 7232 box we have the e Sata port only for outward option.
    John(19:49:31): *QIP
    Carol(19:49:56): what does that mean/
John(19:51:41): We can use the E-Sata drive with the 7232 box to save recordings.
Carol(19:52:34): i don't know what an e-sata drive is or how it conflicts with an optical output. That doesn't make sense to me.
John(19:53:29): Carol, I understand your concern.
Carol(19:53:42): Why would Verizon want to limit its customers' ability to enhance the user experience and benefit from technology?
John(19:53:47): However, we can only forward your concern to our higher level network team to work on the Optical port enable option.
Carol(19:55:49): I have been in customer service and I understand that "I understand your concern" is the polite way to say "I can't wait to rid myself of this whiny customer!" I also understand that none of this is your fault and you have no power to change it - so believe me, it's not you. YES PLEASE FORWARD MY CONCERNS TO SOMEONE WHO CAN ANSWER MY ENDLESS "WHY?"

Does your soundbar support Dolby Digital or PCM.  You may have to change settings that are in the hidden menu if it doesn't support both.  Hidden menu, while on hit off, ok ok (suggest doing it at box)

  • How Do I Transmit Audio from My 2008 MacBook Pro to My 2011 Samsung HDTV?

    Hello,
I'm trying to transmit audio from my 2008 late model MacBook Pro to my 2011 Samsung HDTV.  My MacBook's Model Identifier is MacBook Pro 4,1 (ancient, I know).  I purchased this DVI to HDMI cable which does a beautiful job of transmitting the video to my HDTV, but no audio (as advertised): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8SY5Q/ref=oh_o02_s01_i00_details   HELP!!
    Thanks very much.

I figured it out!  I plugged in my 3.5MM auxillary cable I use to plug my iPhone into car stereo jacks from the headphones port on my MPB to the "PC/DVI Audio In" on the back of my Samsung HDTV and voila! It worked! No additional cables (other than these two). No upgrading OS.  Yay!
    Here's the auxillary cable:  http://www.amazon.com/AUDIO-3-5MM-JACK-AUXILIARY-CABLE/dp/B002Q3K0QS/ref=sr_1_1? ie=UTF8&qid=1330576344&sr=8-1
This looks like a great workaround to the MPB to HDTV audio problem!  Hopefully my geek status is still intact.  W00T!
When in doubt, try all the cables you have in all the different ports.  AV hasn't changed much over the years and you can often rig things to work with what you already have.  Yay for keeping cables out of landfills and repurposing!

  • When I upload audio from itunes into my imovie project, it does not show all of the track?

Hi, I have opened a new project in imovie - I have uploaded 200 photos into the project to make a Comic Book movie!
this project is 7 mins and 8 seconds long - the exact length of the audio track that I want to play during the movie!
I have selected the music by clicking the musical note button in imovie, which open up my itunes library and displays the track I want to use that is 7 mins and 8 seconds long.
When I click and drag my MP3 audio from itunes into my imovie project, i only plays the first 5 mins & 33 seconds; leaving my project in silence for the final 1 min & 3 seconds????
I have not added markers, there are no fade ins or fade outs - only the first 5 min & 33 seconds or a 7 min & 8 seconds MP3 Audio track???
I have spent 10 hours trying to rectify this problem.......
can anyone help me with this problem

  • Delete unused audio from GB sessions from hard disk

I would like to clear the unused audio from many Garage Band sessions from my hard disk. When audio is recorded in GB where is it stored?
    Thanks
Mac OS X 10.4.11 MacBook 2 Ghz Intel Core duo
    Garage Band 3.0.4 (104.7)

Normally, GB does a pretty good housekeeping job with the audio files: If you are not using a recording at all in you project, it gets deleted next time you save your project. (That means: not using even a fraction of a second - otherwise the whole audio is kept, since GB's edits are non-destructive.)
Having said that - if you want to check, the audio recordings are in a folder inside the project package: ctrl-click the project in the Finder, select "show package content", and look inside the media folder. Be careful - deleting stuff from that folder that you think the project isn't using might confuse GB.

  • I have HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but no audio from my new Apple TV.  I have checked all connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru every possible Dolby/Audio combination in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

I have an HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but there is non audio from my Apple TV.  Not for movies, music, YouTube etc.   I have checked all of the connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru all possible Dolby/Audio combinations in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

    Hello again Parker -
The basic setup is Digital Cable Box, DVD Player, Denon Receiver/Amp and TV Monitor.  To that I added the Apple TV.  The Receiver only has two HDMI IN slots (one for cable and one for the DVD) and one out to the Monitor.
[I bought a switcher to toggle the DVD and the AppleTV back and forth but just disconnected the DVD to simplify when I ran in to trouble.]
    So now I have:
HDMI from the Cable Box to the Receiver
HDMI from the Apple TV to the Receiver (in the old DVD slot which always worked well)
HDMI from the Receiver to the Monitor
RCA's from the Receiver to the Subwoofer and the other speakers
In addition I have some backup connections:
S-Video, Optical Audio and L/R RCA's from the Cable Box to the Receiver
S-Video from the Receiver to the Monitor
    Wait - JUST FOUND IT!
By going thru the excercise to track all of the connections per your suggestion, I found an anomaly when I switched Receiver sockets for the HDMI links.  The video moved but the audio didn't.  Turns out the monitor was using the optical audio feed from the receiver.  So I disconnected the optical audio and the monitor automatically switched to the HDMI audio feed!   Looked promising...
So I first connected an optical audio feed from the ATV to the receiver - Audio!  Then I pulled it, but the audio didn't switch to the HDMI feed.  It stopped.  Would be OK if all I was going to use is the ATV, but I need the DVD player too and I can't use a switcher to toggle between them if I have to unplug the optical audio each time.
This is becoming a career!  Any suggestions?

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

  • Video/Audio from new macbook to HD TV?

So, I'm wondering how i can connect the new MacBook to my HD TV which supports HDMI. Can i connect a mini DisplayPort/HDMI adapter and get both video and audio into my TV?
I haven't seen any adapters of that kind in Apple Store.
Is there perhaps another way to archive this?

Barring some other adapter being released, either by Apple or a third party, you'd get the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable. You'll also need to connect the audio to the TV separately, so check to make sure your TV will allow audio from a different input when using the HDMI input for video; not all do.

  • Recording Audio from DVD Video

    Hi,
I have a music concert video on DVD. I would like to record a song off the video so that I can learn to play the guitar part. Is there any software out there that will separate the audio from the video, or in other words, capture the audio and maybe convert it to mp3 format so that I can play it in iTunes without playing the video?
    Sincerely,
    Jim

Audio Hijack will let you capture audio from any running Mac Os X application.

  • Audio from MacBook to TV with HDMI not working?

I recently purchased a HDMI cord for my MacBook, but I don't seem to get any audio from my TV when it's hooked up. I've had no problems getting the image to display on my TV, but the sound won't work. I've already gone through System Preferences to see if there was even an option for output and the only one I saw was for my internal speakers. I had previously just hooked up my computer to a set of external speakers by by TV with an auxiliary cable, but I no longer have the speakers and need to find a different option.
Many thanks in advance for your help!

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.
The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio. If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug.
The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • IDVD Audio from another Project

We have a G5 that is shared among multiple users, each one has their own account on the computer. We've been experiencing a problem where when one of our users creates and burns a iDVD project, then another user under their own account creates and burns a iDVD project, the audio from last/other project gets multiplexed with the current project.
I've tried repairing permissions in the disk utility, deleting the encoded assets within iDVD and to go as far as deleting the users home folders, trashing the preferences, but the problem keeps popping up.
Anyone experience the same problem and have any success in repairing the problem?
