No audio generated from MIDI tracks, though Stereo track is armed

I know that I need to make a stereo track before exporting my MIDI patches as an audio file. However, when I tried to record the audio track (and yes, it's armed), there are no sound waves generated from the instrument patches.
I'm connecting an external MIDI synth (USB to host device) and am also using 1/4 in. audio output cables on the synth, with the 1/8 in. jack connected to my MacBook Pro's microphone plug.
Here's more info:
Software: Logic X Pro
Synth: Yamaha MO8
The Yamaha MO8 is recognized on the Audio MIDI Setup.

I'm also hearing the click track echoing on every beat. And that's all the stereo audio track will record. How do I stop it, so that the stereo audio track will record my MIDI tracks?

  • Audio quality from mid 2012 macbook pro retina

I am trying to clarify what would be the best quality audio I can get from a Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012 (2.3 Ghz). Is the 3.5 mm jack capable of digital output (what spec) otherwise the HDMI digital audio must be a go. What spec does that offer please, and is it possible to input that into an external DAC somehow.

  • Midi track not playing back

Using LP8, PreSonus Firebox, Roland FP4 keyboard, condenser mic. Trying to record 1 audio and 1 midi track simultaneously.
The audio is recording and playing back perfectly thru the Phones thru the Firebox.
The midi is not coming thru. I tried all the settings in the FireBox's control panel.
I want to be able to use earphones with 2 people in the same room.
Thanks much in advance. I've tried everything I can think of including searching the manual.

I'm triggering an EX24 piano which came with Logic Studio. If I unplug the FireBox and Restart the computer then the Apple's core audio is enabled and I can hear both tracks (1 midi & 1 audio) playing through the apple's line-out/phone output.
But if I try to use the Firebox, there is no playback coming through the Firebox phones jack.
In Logic/Pref/Audio it says the audio device is the Firebox. Same at Apple/Preferences. Both input and output are set to Firebox.
I talked with PreSonus who makes Firebox and they don't understand it.
    Thanks,

  • No output from recorded audio tracks, only midi tracks..please help

I've been working on a song in Garageband and suddenly lost audio from real instruments and can only hear the midi from last night until today.  It consists of 3 midi tracks and 9 audio tracks.  I have software plugins or FX on almost all 9 tracks with amplitube or similar.  Things are slow as the arrow is red at the top, however last night I was able to still make changes - slowly.  I was able to do a mixdown and export to mp3.  Then I shut the computer down.  Today I open up Garageband and can only hear the midi tracks of my song however other songs I have work totally fine.  Nothing is muted and I've checked everything.  Levels meters are moving on all the tracks, I can just feintly hear one guitar track.  This is frustrating. I even tried locking half of the tracks and still nothing.  I've rebooted etc and same
I'm running Lion with a TC Konnekt 8 sound module, on a 2.4 core duo 2 MBP with 4 GB of ram

I ran onyx and did a clean up etc then rebooted, loaded GB and same problems.  I turned on the ducking thing, everything looked ok and then once I hit play everything worked again.  I've turned off ducking and it still works.  Could this be a glitch as I've never enabled it before

  • Syncing audio&midi tracks that vary from take to take in the same project

    Sorry
I'm sure this issue is buried somewhere else but I couldn't find it.
I was recording live with a guitar player. He's audio and I'm midi(piano).
I used a separate track for each take.
The first two takes we turned off the click . On the third we tried it with the click and adjusted the tempo. Now takes 1&2 are out of sync.
I called Apple Pro care and he said there is no memory of the original tempo stored on the audio track so I should write this down. I suppose the best place would be to name the tracks something like this.
    Audio 1 120
    Audio 2 130
    midi 1 120
    midi 2 130
I tried to write the question so in the future searchers with the same problem might find this thread easily.
Please post any suggestions or useful links for working with this issue.
    ---thanks

Your method of naming takes with the tempo is a good one. Another aproach to this type ol live recording is to simply record your piano as audio, just like the way you record the guitar. If you don't make a note of the tempos, you'll have trouble editing on the grid, or doing further production with a click (both doable, just extra work involved) but your audio tracks will remain in sync with each other.

  • Recording Audio Track from MIDI

I am not sure how to record a midi track (drums mapped) so that it will bounce with the rest of the file. Also, how do I bounce for an aif file? Thanks a lot for any help!

What is the sound source for the midi drum track? (What instrument is actually making the drum sounds--a virtual instrument, midi sound module, etc.?)

  • Why do I lose my midi tracks when exporting a song to iTunes from GarageBand?

I have been using GarageBand for many years and have never had any real problems--it has always delivered. Recently, though, I finished a track that I wanted to share online, so I tried to get it into MP3 format via iTunes. After listening to it in iTunes, I noticed that none of the midi tracks were there. I tried exporting it again at a higher quality, then in a different format (AAC), and every time, I ended up with a track lacking all midi parts. Does anyone know why that would be or, more importantly, how to fix this problem? Many thanks!

I received the following response from email support:
The reason you saw an amount higher than what was actually in your account may be due to your account information not being updated. This can happen, for example, when you use multiple computers to make iTunes Store purchases. You can refresh your account information at any time, which will in turn update the store credit amount iTunes displays next to your account name. To do this, sign out of the iTunes Store and then sign in again.
It seems that the balance itunes is originally reporting should not be there and it is refreshed (and removed) once the new balance is added.
It's kind of unfortunate that the itunes store can't properly track an account balance (especially since I only use 1 computer for my account), but that's your answer. Hopefully Apple will get around to correcting this in the future, as it's pretty frustrating.

  • Convert MIDI tracks into Audio tracks

I started to convert the MIDI tracks in my project to Audio tracks. Unfortunately the input audio signal is very weak. Is this normal for a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro ? Anyway, working with that weak signal I raised the signal level using the Play Control of my Sound card. As a result I got an awful noise in the monitors. I canceled the action but the noise didn't stop. Now as a result I have a permanent noise coming from my Sound Blaster Play control. I found that the CD Digital output of the Play Control produced that noise. I muted that output and the noise disappeared. But I can't use the CD Digital output of my Sound Blaster. Is that a software or a hardware problem?
Any suggestion and help is welcome.
    Tzarvulko

No, weak MIDI conversion to audio isn't normal. Can you give more detail as to how you are going about said conversion?
You probably don't have anything attached to the CD Digital input, unconnected inputs can pick up noise, and in fooling around with the play control you likely enabled that input (or just turned up the volume of your analog inputs). Muting unconnected inputs is a good thing to do; to some extent so is muting inputs you're not using at the moment.

  • What is the differnce between Blue,Purple and Orange Audio Tracks. Can you convert either to Green Midi Track?

What is the differnce between Blue,Purple and Orange Audio Tracks. Can you convert either to Green Midi Track?

Are you asking about Garageband? Your signature also mentions Logic, but I have never worked with that.
    Concerning Garageband:
Real Instrument regions from your recordings are purple.
Real Instrument regions from Apple Loops are blue.
Regions from imported audio files are orange.
Software Instrument regions from recordings, loops, and imported MIDI files are green.
So far as I know you can convert software instrument loops to real instrument loops, but not real instrument loops to software instrument loops.

  • Midi and Audio tracks simultaneously armed for recording

All, whilst engaged in laying down the bass track for the guitar solo section of my latest monster his, I encountered one of those sorts of frustrations that makes one long for some means of swift egress from this mortal coil, this vale of tears: that is, while laying down my totally awesome bass track that when they hear it will send JP Jones and Boosty Collins to employee as actuaries, I kept getting the hateful "unable to synchronize the audio and midi error." I'll spare you the catalog of the various lame attempts I understood to remedy this problem, as well as the curses directed toward my fate, and Daw ineptitude in general. Then I nnoticed that both the software instrument tracks (Addictive drums) and the audio track (aforementioned bass) were both armed for recording, signified by the red R in the track header! Well, upon de-arming the software instrument track I was able to record by bass line in a mimimum of takes, and as visions of illegal intozicants and comen of questionable morals dance through my noggin as recompsense for my trouble, with to make the point to all relative newbies such as myself that the answer to problems that seem on surface intractable as usually staring you right in the glazed eyeball.

  • 5.1/stereo audio in the same track

    hello-
I have 5 music videos. only 1 has 5.1 audio - the rest are stereo. For ease of use i want to lay them all down on the same track (same audio track - A1).
At first I got the error when I tried to drop in the 5.1 track. but if I dropped it into the A2 track then dragged it up to the A1 track it works.
It plays fine under simulation and a burnt copy plays fine on my test DVD player. The display will actually show the switch from 5.1 to stereo.
This project is going out for duplication this week. My question is this - Is this a good thing to do? Is the fact that its playing on my test DVD just a fluke?and other players will not be so kind.
    thanks for your input-
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)   DSP 4

yes i got it to work - and have tested it out on 3 diff DVD players.
I put 1 music video track (V1) with stereo audio (in A1) then added a image place holder (V1) with no audio (in A1) and then another music video track (V1) with 5.1 audio (still in A1 - after moving it up from A2).
to my disbelief it plays - but everything i read says it can't be done. - or maybe it is it shouldn't be done.

  • Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?

  • SATB from 4 Midi tracks

Hi - I'm new to Logic and my intention is to write down notation for my choir (SATB). I do have the voices on 4 MIDI tracks. Is there a way to bring my 4 voices in standard notation (SA on upper system, TB on lower) from MIDI to the scoresheet?
    Thanks!

Either open both Projects side by side (only advisable with smaller projects)
extra (esp. Logic 8 and 7) tip here: *disable coreaudio* (in the audio preferences) before opening the 2nd project. Enable again when done (when 2nd project has been closed). This prevents endless and patience-devouring loading of sampled instruments on every project-switch.
Now do I get a ticket?
For LP9 the Track Import option is much simpler (& safer ime).

  • Dropped beats from piano/midi track

When I playback my piano (midi) track, some of the beats get dropped even though they appear on the track - why??! How can I get it ALL to playback. I exported to iTunes to see if it was just in garageband, but nope, you still cant hear the dropped beats after export either. tnx.

By "dropped beats" do you mean that you can't hear certain notes you played?
When playing notes into GB with a velocity sensitive keyboard or controller, you get a variety of volumes for each of the notes you play. This is a normal feature. Upon playback though, some of the sounds are low enough to be 'drowned' out by the rest of the production.
In the piano roll you will see the MIDI notes you played. They are represented as lines varying in color from grey to white. The greyer they are the less velocity they have. The whiter they are, the more velocity.
Check to see what your MIDI notes look like. You can click on each note and see how much velocity it has by looking at the velocity slider to the left. See if you can find the notes that seem dropped and raise the velocity and see if that makes a difference.
