No Audio in PP CS4

Hi, need some help.  I imported video and audio from DVD using Studio 12 Ultimate, the resulting file was an mpg file. It plays perfectly in MS Media Player but when I import it into Premiere Pro CS4, it converts the video and conforms the audio (I see the status bar in the bottom right), but when it finishes, the audio doesn't play (no audio).  The file description in the project states it's 48,000 hz. compressed stereo, but it won't play.  I searched the Adobe support knowledge base and everything seems to say CS4 plays mpg audio, but I can't figure it out.  Any help would be appreciated...
J.D.

The first thing that I would do would be to download, install and then use G-Spot, a freeware utility to discover all of the aspects of the MPEG-2, both Audio and Video. That will get you started.
Next, look into the freeware program, Audacity, and use it to rip the Audio from the muxed AV file. Do a Save_As with the specs., that I mentioned above. Import that into PrPro. As I do not use Soundbooth, I do not know its capabilities. Audition can rip the Audio from most muxed AV files.
Last, do you have CS4.1? Can you just copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to your HDD, and then Import it into PrPro? That might well take care of things, providing that your DVD is 100% compliant. That would save the ripping step.
Good luck,

  • Editing Audio from PP CS4 in Soundbooth coming back out of sync.

After cleaning up audio from PP CS4 using the "edit in Soundbooth" option. The audio comes back out of sync. How do I solve this?
    thanks!

I am sorry for the confusion. When putting the playhead in the middle, the instrumental sounds as if somebody has slid it to the right. No, it does not start early and end late. It (the instrumental) is just at a later part of the song no matter where I put the playhead. For example, I put the playhead at a certain point of the song, and at that point the instrumental is sounding a part of the track located at an earlier location of the song (maybe a second or 2). There is no change in pitch...the instrumental sounds the same...it is just at the wrong location every time I put the playhead anywhere but the beginning of the song.

  • The Best way to stream audio in Flash CS4

    Hi all.
I have lots of mp3 audio files on my site (40 or more).
I am using an audio player and that's working fine but, it takes a while for some of the mp3's to kick in. I have reduced their bit rates from 160 to 128 and In Flash CS4/Publish Settings/Flash I have changed the MP3 to a bit rate of 8kbps. is this OK?
Anything else I can do to speed things up?
    Regards
    M

the flash settings won't help download and stream those mp3's faster.  lowering the mp3 bitrates will help.
and other than ensuring nothing else is loading when you start to stream an mp3, there's nothing you can do to get it to download more quickly.

  • Video files shown as Audio files ? CS4

Ok so i have spent a day filming a short film on my Panasonic HDC-TM10, the files save as .MTS (AVCHD)
I copied all the files from my camera to my HDD..
All the files play fine on Windows Media Player, though some open a bit slower to start, then play fine and normal (remember i said this)..
I import all the .MTS files into Premiere Pro CS4, and out of random about half of the files are how they should be, play fine, edit fine.
BUT some other random files ( one of a shot of an actor opening a door, the others of a television turned on) appear and play as audio files in the group of my clips (they have audio icons, the other working ones have the film icon).. it seems completely random to me ? why these shots and all the rest are fine, i used no different settings on the camera all are equal..
Out of my own knowledge i would thought its a file codec issue? as i tried changing the file extensions to .mpg and windows gave each file a notepad XML of some random adobe tech info, the files that appear in premiere pro as audio files only had audio info compaired to the ones that worked fine had video info aswell (such as FPS and resolution info)..
So i dont get what the hecks going on here, as i said, all files play fine in windows media player (with the slight beginning load of the weird files which then play as normal..) so why are these certain shots recognised as audio files in premiere pro ?
I am sure there is some simple solution to this, so any help much appreciated, Thankyou.

    IVE FOUND THE SOLUTION !!!!!!!!
OK after about 10 hours of testing and tweaking and frustration here i am proud to say..
To all Panasonic AVCHD camera users, that have strange file issues, that do not work in certain programs..
Turn the setting 'Digital Cinema Colour' [OFF] when advancing the zoom in shots.
-Digital Cinema Colour is OK to use if on x1 zoom (no zooming in used) but if any zooming optical or digital turn it OFF.
What i think is the problem here is this digital cinema colour interfearing with video codec somehow ?
It says on my camera for the info of digital cinema colour..
"Record motion pictures with more vivid colours, using x.v.colour(trade mark sony) technology." < AND THIS IS A PANASONIC CAMERA ?!?
NOW, x.v.colour is apparently only compatible on certain televisions and cameras for "viewing"
I on to something here.. I have identified a major flaw by panasonic, that zoomed shots on DCC get corrupted..
To back up my testing i repeatedly filmed sequences off shots i with DCC on or off, i wrote down a sequence to shoot in that went..
    [ON],[OFF,][ON],[OFF],[OFF],[ON,[OFF],[ON,
..I used planned random sequences to crack coincidences.
The results were not a coincidence, the files were imported, and the shots with Digital Cinema Colour [ON] were imported as audio files..
So to conclude this, thankyou very much to all your support, I have found usefull programs you have given me i will use onwards, thankyou.

  • Importing P2 .mxf files with audio into AE CS4

I hope this isn't the ultimate newbie question but, I have been working with After Effects for a few months but haven't need audio until now. Is there a different process for importing/exporting with audio? I have brought in the P2 video file but I don't think there is audio attached to it. When I export to a QT file, there is definitely no sound? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Lost audio in Premiere CS4 - PLEASE HELP...

I have been building several projects and after weeks of problems and tweaking I am finally ready to export them to their final formats and all of the sudden the audio is not playing in the time line or the export. I saw a reference that this can happen if the media is copied and pasted from another project.
Well I had a sizing issue a week or two age and had to setup a new project to fix the problem so I copied the edited media over and except for the in and out fades on a graphic everything everything seemed to transfer just fine and I have been refining the edits for over a week with no problem - till last night that is when I went to do the final export and bam, no audio.
I also saw a proposed solution of making the media offline and then linking the media again but both of those options are grayed out no matter what I do...
Praying someone out there knows how I can fix this issues with out having to rebuild everything AGAIN...
    Many thanks!!!

  • Trouble importing audio files in CS4

I have my entire video put together, and when i went to put in simple special effects or backround music i have encountered a major problem. When i go to insert and audio file, Instead of putting the audio file actually in one of the audio tracks ( Audio 1, Audio 2, etc.) it goes into the Video 1 track and mutes my video clip. This is making it impossible to edit my video. So why can i not drag and drop an mp3 file into one of the Audio tracks successfully?
P.S. This is my first time using an Adobe product to edit a video, but i do have editing experience.
    Thank You

OK, let's see if this helps a bit.
Go to the Track Header of your existing Audio Tracks (the ones with existing Audio Clips), and Lock them. Now, drag your Audio Clip to an empty Audio Track, or down to the Master Track, for PrPro to create the necessary empty Audio Track.
    Does that work?
Note that Audio Source Clips must match the channel-count of the intended Audio Track. This ARTICLE goes into more detail.
    Good luck,

  • Slideshow with audio in Flash CS4

I'm a Flash newbie making my first foray into scripting.
I have a series of AIFFs that were recorded during a lecture. They refer to specific images. I created a file with the audio playing in a frame, with "Next Frame" and "Previous Frame" buttons with the appropriate code from the easier (for me) actionscript 2. I'd like to click the button and have the presentation advance to the next frame.
When I test the movie, either the buttons don't work, or all the buttons go off, causing the audio to eventually loop endlessly.
Obviously I don't know what I'm doing. I tried some of the online tutorials but they didn't really seem to do what I need. I'd really appreciate any advice about how to do this, either in pointing me to an appropriate tutorial or explaining how this should be set up. It seems to me that what I'm trying to do shouldn't be too difficult but I can't seem to make it work.
    Thanks

    Thanks kglad. I pasted
    on(release){
    prevFrame();
    stopAllSounds();
On the "previous" buttons and pasted this on the "next" buttons
    on(release){
    nextFrame();
    stopAllSounds();
Now, the looping has stopped, but the previous button stops the audio completely, while the next button starts it. But the slides do not advance - I have three slides and the presentation seems stuck on slide #2.
Sorry I'm an idiot about this!

  • PROBLEM EDITING AUDIO BETWEEN PREMIERE CS4 AND AU OR SB

I have a problem editing my audio files in audition or soundboth, when I return to premiere after have edited the file in AU or SB, I can't see the wave in premiere but I can hear the audio.
I have to rebote premiere to see the wave.
    What could be happening?
    could you help me, please?
Excuse me for my english, I speak spanish.

What are your exact steps to edit in SB or AU? Do you first Rt-click on the Audio Clip and choose Edit in SoundBooth (or Audition)? Do you Render and Replace (basically what happens with the previous method), and then Open that resulting file in SB, or AU?
From SB, or AU, how do you Save your file - exact steps please?

  • Editing Audio with Soundbooth CS4

So I have a NTSC DV sequence in Premiere and there are a few clips with some crackign in the mic that I want to try and get rid of.  I right click on the clip in the timeline and select Edit With Soundbooth/Render and Replace.  Soundbooth opens and I go to Clean up Audio Clicks and Pops, and apply the effect.  The audio sounds good and I hit Save in Soundbooth.  When I go back over to Premiere the audio is now .5 sec off.  For some reason it is doing this on all but the very first clip in the sequence.  It does not matter what order I am doing it in all the other clips that I take into SB come back into Premiere 15 frames off except for the first clip that is using the audio from the clip, which happen to be the 12th clip in the timeline.
These were shot with a Sony PD170 and captured with Premiere.  The audio is just fine on the timeline until taken into SB.  The clips had the Fill Right effect put on them in Premiere and I am also working from a Duplicate Copy of my sequence (so I do not mess anything up).  I have taken out the Fill RIght effect in Premier and tried taking that into SB with the same result of the clip being 15 frames off.
Has anyone else had or heard of a problem like this...
Not a huge deal because I can trim all the audio and shift it down but I would rather not have to do that to the whole timeline if I do not need to...
    Thanks
    Phil

OK I got it figured out...  I had cross dissolves between these audio clips that was 1 sec long.  On the fist clip with the on camera audio there was just a fade up.  I guess the other clips fading over each other is what was throing it off by 15 frames.
I guess if I had done this to the original clips and not the shortened clips in the timeline it would be OK.  The new audio file that is created by SB is only as long as the clip in the timeline, and not the full length of the clip.
Seems stranges that it would not account for the cross dissolve but at least I know better for next time...

  • Audio Background Noise CS4

    Hello:
I am working with multiple video clips! Some of them are much older and shot around 1986, etc. so when they transition there is a considerable difference in background noise clutter. Humming, suttle buzzing, etc.
How do I get rid of the background noise so that interviews can be heard more sharp. Basically improve the sound of the old interview footage. I am a rookie when it comes to sound editing.
Thank you. I will check the correct answer as soon as Inail it if anyone can help me.
    Thank you.

    Jill,
Your samples of video clips are old and noisy so this isn't going to help much, but it will put things in perspective.
When films and professional videos are shot (tv shows, movies, etc.) the soundman (sound recorder / mixer ) on the set will get what is called "room tone" at the end of each scene.  This is just everyone being extremely quiet on the set for about 2 minutes while a sound recording is made of what the room sounds like when it is quiet.
Sometimes there are lights that might be making a slight humming noise or there might be some air conditioning unit on the stage next door making some noise through the duct system...
basically that "room tone" is background noise.
That is used by the soundman to eliminate it from his soundtrack later on.  There are filters and special tricks to get rid of the noise.
so the suggestions above have been about trying to steer you toward focusing on the "noise" part of your soundtrack so it can be eliminated.
it won't be as easy for you as it is for someone who made a separate "room tone" track when the original recording was made.

  • Exporting 5.1 ac3 audio from Premiere Pro CS4

    Hi there,
I wonder if anybody can help me out with exporting 5.1 ac3 audio from Premiere CS4 version 4.1.0?
I have a 3min long HD 5.1 clip that I need to cut down to 60seconds and add fade transitions to. The final clip will be used in a media player with very specific spec - the clip needs to remain HD 1080p with a frame rate of 29.97 and a maximum CBR of 38. The audio must be 5.1 aac. The format can be mpeg 2 or h.264. The overall quality loss needs to be minimal.
Up to now I have been cutting up footage that only needs to be stereo and I found the best way to to this while keeping quality was to use Prem Pro and export as mpeg 2 1080p 29.97, quality:5, bitratre: CBR 38, audio as mpeg layer 2 (as these clips were stereo only). These clips played back fine and looked great so I wanted to keep the 5.1 clip process as close to this as possible.
So far all I have been able to get from Premiere Pro is an audio codec called DVD_LPCM which the media player will not recognise. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to 5.1 audio so I may be doing something obviously wrong...
    - I have purchased the 5.1 surcode codec and its activated.
    - I have started a new AVCHD (I need 1920x1080) 1080p 29.97  project with a 5.1 audio master
    - The orignal file is an mpeg which I have pulled into PPro and selected Clip > Audio > Breakout to mono
    - I take the 6 mono channels in the project panel and put them into thier own mono tracks in the sequence.
    - the video I use is the original mpeg with the 5.1audio muted in the sequence.
    - When i select each track in the project panel and go to Clip > Audio > Source channel mappings, I see that track has already been allocated a source channel. So I go to the Audio Mixer panel and adjust the 5.1 panners for each tyrack according to what the Source Channel Mapping window has told me - Audio 1 is is L, audio 2 is R, audio 3 is LS, 4 -  Rs, 5- C and 6- LFE
    - I cut the video and all the mono track to the 60seconds I need and export using these settings:
    Video - exactly as before
    Audio -
Format - Dolby Digital, Codec - SurCode, Audio Coding Mode: 3/1 (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs - 5.1 Surround), LFE: on.
The clip exports with DVD_LPCM 5.1 audio. Is it to do with the AVCHD preset? Could anyone help me get aac? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Using AME and the SurCode Plug-in, here's how the dialog screen looks for the Audio Tab in PrPro 2.0. It should be similar in CS4:
You do have the Minnetonka SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in, right?
Good luck, and hope that this is helpful.

PS - note that in the screen-cap, I have composited the dialog box, as though it fully displayed, with no need to scroll it. Depending on your display, you may need to scroll, and your scroll bars will look different from what you see here - just ignore that part of it.

  • CS4 freezes when editing audio.

    Hello All,
I have a client that has a workstation that freezes when she edits audio in CS4.  I have seen it happen and what it does is it keeps playing the audio but Adobe CS4 freezes until the audio is done playing or when she kills CS4.  I have reinstalled Adobe CS4, talked to Adobe technical support, reloaded her workstation with Vista 64 bit, put in another hard drive for the page file, and ran through every troubleshooting document I could find on the forums and Adobes website.  Her workstation is a Core2Quad 2.4GHz and 4GB of ram with Vista 64 bit.
This is an on-going issue that needs to be solved ASAP and any help would be appreciated from other users.  I do not want to resort to calling Adobe technical support as I was not satisfied with their knowledge of their product.
    Thank you,
    Brian
Edit:  Harm Millaard chime in if you have any suggestions.  You seem to be very helpful on these forums.  Also, you have a very impressive computer setup and props to you for putting it together.

While I feel that the Assets, or the Project, are probably the culprits here, you might want to look over this ARTICLE on "tuning up" one's NLE computer. Might be something useful in it - if not now, then for later.
    Good luck,
