No audio in source monitor

Greetings.
I have imported an .mxf file Sony camera. The audio and video are good. I can see and hear the audio when I place clip in timeline. But when I place clip in source monitor I cannot hear any audio. It has got to be something simple. What is it? Thanks.

Thanks Colin, That worked.
But yes, that is not only annoying... it is unacceptable. Seriously.
When you import a video file - you should be able to hear the audio. Period. If you want to mute tracks, then fine, mute them.... but by default, you should get full mix of audio.... then perhaps decide which tracks to disable. ..
But seriously... I now have to "select" track by track and can only listen to one track at a time? Then do this for each clip?  Yikes.
One work around.... would be to create a sequence -- of all the raw clips... and then work from that sequence.
I will definately join you in this bug report. Thanks.

  • MXF file plays with audio on Source Monitor but timeline imports only the video

    Hello,
This started happening like a few hours ago. But it was working perfectly before! This is driving me insane!
This is the situation (Premiere CC, updated to latest version):
    - I have a bunch of MXF files and if I play them on the Source Monitor, audio and video play perfectly.
    - The moment I drag the MXF file onto the timeline, only the video is imported, not the audio.
    - I tried to drag only the audio, using the different ways that Premiere provides but it won't come at all.
I managed to import audio and video doing the following: close all sequences, and drag the MXF file in the timeline with no sequence opened thus it will create a sequence with the imported audio and video from the MXF file.
BUT if I try to drop the SAME MXF file in this brand new sequence, only the video will come again.
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on? And why it suddenly stopped working?
    Thank you!

  • No audio in source monitor but it works on the time line

    Hi
I just started to use a Canon XF300 and I have noticed that when I double click on a file and it opens in the source monitor the video plays but I get no audio. If I drop that same clip onto the time line I get video and audio.
Is there a setting I am missing?
    Thanks
    Dennis

    Hi
Yes both Channel 1 and 2.
Also I just came across another funny thing. After opening the first clip in the source monitor I can not open any other clips unless I open them from the time line. Double click a clip in the time line so it opens in the source monitor and then THE SOUND WORKS!  Weird.

  • No Audio from Source Monitor

For some reason or another, the audio from the source monitor hasn't followed the video into my timeline. I didnt select to only drag the video into the time line, rather i hit "," and yet all that showed up is the video.
Worst yet, is that i've been trimming through tons of footage and have apparently done this to over 200+ clips.
I was told to reveal the clips in the project and then just drag them back into the timeline, over the old video clips.
Is there any way to select multiple clips, or even all of them, and be able to get the audio from each one back into my timeline?

    Hi Loadedboards,
I think I'm understanding what you wish to do. Sorry, but there's no easy way to do this en masse. I would Match Frame at the edit point, then Overwrite the clip with audio into place.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • No audio in timeline or waveform after XML import. YES audio in source monitor.

I'm collaborating with another editor on this project. He picked out a bunch of selects using FCP. I opened the FCP projcet, exported the selects sequenece as XML, imported into Premiere.
Now, everything is in my premiere project nice and clean, however there's one big problem:
There is no sound in from any of the clips when they are brought into the timeline. If I double click the clips, and bring them into the source monitor, there is sound, plays perfect. None in the timeline, and no signal in the audio waveform. Premiere is also not conforming in the background, so I don't think that's the issue either.
I tried messing around with the audio channels, turning them all to none, back on, etc... no dice.
    Any ideas?

Without knowing anything about the footage, or the Sequence, it's impossible to know.
If Ann is correct, as to the cause (one possibility), then this ARTICLE might give you more useful info.
    Good luck,

  • Premier Pro CC no audio in source monitor

    Hello,
I've been using Premier Pro for a few months now and awhile ago when I would double click on a video in my time line to preview on the source monitor, the audio does not play, only the video. Yes the clips have audio in the time line and I can view audio wave form stuff from the source monitor, yet it is mute. Help?? It use to work, I don't know what happened. If you need more details let me know.
    Thank you!

  • Can I open a second Source Monitor for the audio track of a video?

I really dislike having to switch to the audio waveform in the Source Monitor pane when I want to tinker with a clip's audio track. I usually try to stay away from needing to use a panes drop down menu as much as possible. Is there a way to get this in a different window?
    Using CS6

You cant tinker with the audio track in the Source Monitor. Apart from IN and Out Point setting.
Normally one would expand the audio track in the time line...zoom in/out to suit and maybe use the tilde shortcut  key to view it all full screen.

  • Set default audio track for playback in Source monitor

So I'm an editor that is somewhat new to the profession and I am working on a project right now with close to 100 video clips in my project. Most of the clips have their audio recorded to track 2 but when I load the clips into the source window to find the footage asked for in my script there is no audio playback.
They play fine in the program monitor once placed in a timeline, because I have all the audio tracks are turned on until I do my mastering at the end of the project. To get audio playback in the source monitor I have to change the view option to audio waveform which shows a blank screen because there is no audio on track. I then go to the drop-down menu just below the video display and select track 2 at which point the audio waveform shows up and plays back fine. This isn't too arduous a process and isn't a great burden but it slows my workflow down considerably as I have to repeat the process for each new clip I load into the source monitor.
My question then is if there is anywhere in Premiere that I can set which audio track is the default audio playback track for clips loaded in the source monitor. I work on a lot of similar projects like this for the same client and they don't have the most rigorous standards for their shooters. This problem has come up before and will most assuredly arise again in the future so any tips/advice on how to fix this on my end would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm not really sure.I don't do any shooting for the client and in fact don't have any contact with the shooters, we just do the post. They use a number of different freelance videographers all of whom have different equipment and procedures when it comes to formatting, orginization, etc.

  • Problems with audio playback in source monitor

I recently updated to Yosemite, so this may be a update issue, but anytime I open up an audio file in the source monitor and try to play it, I get the pinwheel and a big delay.  After the delay it does begin to play, but I still have the pinwheel and have to force quit.  I'm on a new Mac Pro as well running the latest CC2014.  Anyone else have this issue?

Hi there, i had the same problem when i did a clean install of windows 7 and re-installed Premiere Pro, where i had the same problem you speak of. I uninstalled and re-installed it and it works fine now. Something to do with either the version 4.2 or the third party material. I would suggest going back to version 4.0 and that should solve your problems

It looks like the only thing not working as it should is the menu command Go to Split>Audio Out.  Everything else in your video is working as designed.
I do get that same bad menu behavior.  But if only audio split is set, both the keyboard shortcuts and the Go To Out icon work just fine.

  • Audio "sub-clips" won't play in source monitor, but will play when cut into a sequence.

I'm cutting an "audio only" project in Premiere and I came across a strange problem while making sub-clips. The first 6 sub clips made from the same master audio clip were normal, but then something changed, and the rest of them won't play any sound while in the "Source" window, even though while in the window the sub-clip displays a waveform.
Once edited into a sequence they play normally, but not being able to listen to the sub clips in the source monitor is annoying, and louses up my whole editing routine for this kind of project.
Any ideas as to why this is happening, or what I might do to fix it?

    Number of issues here:
    1. Your system does not meet minimum requirements.
    2. Your CPU, disks, memory are not enough for anything other than DV.
    3. What video camera was used with what codec on what OS with which version of PR. etc.
Some suggestions... and answer at least the 16 questions at the end of the Wiki article.

  • Can the audio for the source monitor be muted during playback?

Seems like a silly question but I like to listen to music on the same workstation while I'm previewing/trimming clips in the source monitor. In this instance I do not need to preview the audio in the clips so I'd rather not hear it while my jams are playing, which keeps me from poking my eye out with a pen after 4 hours of previewing .
I have not been able to locate any mute option for the source monitor so I'm open to suggestions other then using something other than the same workstation (iPod n headphones), which may be the way I go if there is no other option.
    thanks,
    Dave

    Hey Harm,
I can't see the audio tracks in the source monitor (CS4). I only see the audio tracks of clips that are loaded in a timeline. Right now I have a thousand (literally) clips from a season of club volleyball. I have them loaded in bins in the project panel and I am dbl clicking each clip to load it in the source monitor panel (that I have undocked and displayed on a seperate monitor). I have seperate sequences for the types of plays I want to keep, so as I preview/trim in the source monitor I drop what I want to keep in the appropriate timeline/sequence. If there is a way to view the audio tracks in the source monitor without the clips being in a timeline I do not know how.

  • How do I audition separate audio tracks in the source monitor?

I don't see anything about this in the Help doc.
I want to listen to all four tracks independently from a P2 card, but when I load a clip into the Source Monitor, it sounds like I'm only hearing one track, or maybe I'm hearing all four.  I honestly don't know what I'm listening to.

You're listening to just one; Premiere Pro is screwed up in this regard. Monitoring audio in the Source Monitor is limited to one track at a time, be it multi-mono or stereo.
Switch to the Audio Waveform view, and then click the Track selector; it's defaulting to Track 1.
Unfortunately, this only stays active for the current clip. When you're done screaming and swearing, please file a feature request for smarter audio monitoring: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • Audio track missing on timeline when I insert clip from source monitor

I have the following problem with PP CS6: my media contains two alternate mono tracks (one with the signal boosted as an insurance) and I have PP set up to treat them as two mono tracks, rather than one stereo track. Everything works fine when I drag media directly to the timeline from the project panel. But when I use the source monitor to select in and out points, and then insert the chosen clip into the timeline, only one of the two audio tracks appears on the timeline. Can anyone please explain how to make sure I get both tracks on the timeline via this route?
    Thanks
    DM

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to my case. I've set PP's default behaviour to import as dual mono in Edit\Preferences\Audio. This allows me to drag media from the project panel to the timeline and get two sediscrete mono channels. My problem is that when I go the source monitor route, any clip that I insert does not display two audio tracks on the timeline, just one. I have discovered I can switch the source channel from left to right, which to all intents and purposes fixes my problem, but I would like to maintain the option of getting both channels displayed separately on the timeline if possible.
    Thanks

  • Glitch in Audio when switching from Source Monitor to timeine in PPro

I am running a nMP 3ghz 8-core, 16gb ram, D700's, on osx 10.10. PProCC is 8.2.0 (65) Build. It is the most up to date version on CC. I also have a Focusrite Scarlette 2i2 for my Audio interface. This is where I'm having the issue. When I playback a clip in the source monitor, then go to play something in the timeline I get a weird 2 second delay with 2 pop's in my speakers, the lights on the XLR gain knobs on the focusrite audio interface flash twice in sync with the audio pops, then the timeline will play. And if I now go to play something in the source monitor coming from the timeline it does the same thing, 2 seconds, pops, lights then it plays. But if I stop and start the clip in either the source monitor or timeline without switching between, it plays fine. Only switching between the source monitor and the timeline. I have tried numerous things in the ASIO settings but nothing seems to get rid of this glitch and it drives me and my clients insane because it does it every single time I switch between the two. HELP!

Cam, I have this exact same problem. I plan on sending out some emails to hopefully find a solution, but I thought I would check here quick. Did you ever find an answer to your question elsewhere?
