No  audio input for audio channels

i have installed logic express 7.0 on my macbook pro, but not upgraded to 7.2.
the problem i am having is that i have no input to select on the channel strip of my audio channels. on my powerpc imac, without any audio interface hooked up, it shows inputs 1 and 2. however, on my macbook, i get no audio input to show up on the I/O part of the channel strip. when i click and hold, all it says is "No Input." the strangest part though is that in the "Audio Hardware and Drivers" section, core audio is enabled and the Audio input is selected as my driver. when i boot up, i get a message that says "The previously selected audio interface is unavailable, so the built in I/O will be used." well, where the eff is the Input?????
i have gone through set up assistant several times, uninstalled logic and reinstalled and i have scoured the boards, all to no avail.
can anyone help me figure this out? is it a cross grade problem?
frustated,
ken

well, i have tried the enabling thing over and over again, before i originally posted it. i am getting the crossgrade soon so hopefully that will resolve it. if not, i am going to call and figure this out.
thanks.

Actually, after scouring the web, I see that RogueAmoeba also has a free utility called LineIn which simply sends the audio in to the audio out and doesn't interfere with other programs like iTunes!
On the other hand, after downloading and trying it, there is a noticeable latency between what goes in and what comes out.
The latency is in the computer, not the software. Most of the latency is in the A/D and D/A conversion.
You need to connect the analog input to the analog output directly to get zero latency.

  • Audio input for guitar

    Hello,
The intro video says that I need to connect my guitar to an audio input. For now I'm just interested in using the Macbook for producing songs with my electric guitar. What devices do I need? What if I want to play the electric bass (instead of the electric guitar)?
    Thanks!

it depends what kind of quality you're expecting. you could try just plugging the guitar straight in:

anyone looking for a high quality recording would want a digital interface:

  • No audio input for VO

I realize that this is more to do with my mac then with FCP but I trust the people in here more so please bear with me. I am trying to do a VO on my Duel Core PowerPC G5. I have put in a slug & set in & out points and it lets me record just fine.
My problem seems that my audio input on the back of my G5 seems to not be working. I went into settings and ensured I had the right connection. I only got the needles to bump when I plugged in the mic. I know the mic works as I have tried it on another PC & it bumps the needles just fine.
Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to test if this port is dead (which would be a shame as I have never used it) or if it is if there is anything to bring it back to life. As always thank you for the help, this is by far the most useful forum Apple has

Often you need a mic preamp to boost mic gain to an acceptable level when using the VO tool in FCP.
You can try using the Audio Midi Setup utility to adjust the line-in gain. The utility can be found in the Applications/utilities folder.
    Good luck,

  • Up to how many inputs for audio recording.

just like the subject, up to how many inputs can be used for audio recordings at one time. i have four audio tracks but i could only arm 2 because i only have the choice for input 1 and 2. ive tried several things but cant seem to get any more inputs. is it possible to get more? if so can anyone help me. ive been told audio input objects but it didnt work.

Greetings! You don't say what audio hardware you have. If you have nothing other than your standard inputs on the MacBook, then you can't have more than two inputs. If you have a multi-input audio interface then it sounds as if it's not connected properly. Check:
Audio > Audio Hardware and Drivers
Make sure your audio interface is selected.
Also, click-hold on the I/O button for each track and make sure that you have selected different inputs - there should be one input listed for each physical input port on your audio interface.
If you're still having problems, you may need to delete your preferences and run Logic Set Assistant to rebuild your system - only takes a couple of minutes and worth doing.
Clangwork is also right about Audio MIDI Setup since Logic can only see what AMS tells it about.

  • Audio input for live music video, question

    Hi
I'm wanting to use imovie to record some solo guitar performances. I would like to be able to process the audio through logic pro as I record the live audio and video. I have a digi003 audio interface and am able to use it as my audio input no problem, but am not able to add reverb and eq through logic pro. I open both apps and in logic I get the processed sound but as I record in imovie I only record the unprocessed guitar. How would i be able to do this? Thanks for the help!!

    Hi,
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions.
If you have any installed, turn that off, try that site.
For photos... back to the menu bar, click Safari / Preferences then select the Appearance tab.

  • Turning on Garageband Airplay turns off audio input for guitar

Turning on Garageband Airplay turns off audio input so I can't hear my electric guitar via my bluetooth speaker.  I know I can wire my speaker to my ipad but I don't want to.  Any help?

Did you notice the alert window that Audio inputs are dialed when using Airplay or Bluetooth? This window pops up when you turn Airply - Bluetooth on. So the behavior/restriction is normal
    Hope that helps

  • Audio bitrate for 2 channels

I have got 2 tracks of audio in my dvd-project (german + english) every channel is wav pcm stereo.
for calculation of the final bit-rate do i have to add up 1,5 kbps per audio-track plus the 6 kbps of my video-stream.
with that (video 6 kbps + audio german 1,5 kbps + audio english 1,5 kbps) im still in range of maximum overall-bitrate of the dvd specifications of 10,08 kbps
is that bitrate a problem for older dvd-standalone-players and computers?
    thanks for your answers!

    Welcome to the forums mouse
Generally speaking: the bit-rate for the audio is hardly an issue if encoded in the favored AC3 format whereas the bit-rate for the video is a concern since it can easily exceed the limits of the DVD bit-rate specification.
I think the audio should be encoded to something around 128 kb/s if I remember correctly, depending on how many channels you have for the audio track.
also I wanted to mention you actually have two tracks of audio w/ an unknown number of channels (because they were not mentioned) meaning you can have one track of 5.1 channel audio in English and the other track with 2.0 channels of audio
Just wanted you to understand and/or clarify the difference between tracks and channels there real quick for ya that's all.

  • Audio input for mac mini

Well thats it i have made the move and i am now a proud owner of a new mac mini but i have a problem i cant to connect my four track recorder to my mac so as i can record all my music to disk, is there a way around this maybe somekind of usb conector, grrr i'd hate to get rid of my mac just for that reason but its really important to me.
Oh and are there any good free anti virus programs out there for mac.

...connect my four track recorder to my mac so
as i can record all my music to disk, is there a way
around this maybe somekind of usb conector
Yes, there are many products you would buy. Some connect
to the USB others to the Firewire ports. the low end starts at $30 for an "iMic" but if you want professional quality
audio and it sound like yu might if you own a four track mixer then you'd be looking at spending about what you'd expect to spend for another piece of professional audio gear. Actually it's not that bad. $170 will get you a quality audio device with XLR inputs and all that conects the firewire. There guys have a good selection of gear www.m-audio.com
As for anti-virus software. First you need to find a virus. So for there ain't none. So while there are a lot of companies trying to take your money and will sell you software the stack of virus profiles that the software uses is pretty thin. The trick with Mac OS X is to make a logon account for yourself that is NOT an administraitor account and use that account for day to day use. The normal protection offered by non-admin acount will keep you pretty safe

  • Audio input for iMac

I have a 21.5" iMac and Mavericks 10.9.4.   I will soon be starting the process of converting my vinyl records to CDs.  My question is this:  Is the iMic still a good choice to as input device (good being reasonable price, quality result) or is there now a better option?
    Thanks.

Thanks.  I'll look into that iMic.  I looked at some reviews by people who bought the item and for the most part they seem to like it.  Some expressed problems with software (Final Vinyl) Griffin included with the iMic so I wonder if there is some recommended software to use with it.  Do you have any recommendations?
    I really appreciate the help.
Oh, yeah, I clicked a wrong key in selecting the operating system when I registered for this forum.  I have the Mavericks OS X 10.9.1 system.  I'll have to figure out how to get in and modify my registration info.  Thanks for pointing that out.

  • Direct audio input for sound recordint?

Is it possible to connect iPod to a direct sound feed and record. ie without the microphone. I tried connecting cable between iPod and speaker jack on other device but it didn't work. I want to record sound that is not compatible directly with the iPod.
    thanks

Did not know that rMBP didn't have audio...
I had a USB headset that was a regulard headset with a USB adapter. When the headset broke, I got a cable that split the three part connector of the iPhone headset and then plugged that into the usb port and it works fine.
In any case, USB tends to be a cleaner audio source but ymv.
    Good luck.

  • Creating seperate audio input and audio output tracks?

I need a bit of advice on how to do this. I'm using a simple Lightsnake USB cable to hook my guitar directly into my computer, now i can record into the program but need to switch between the Unknown USB input and the built-in inputs to get sound. This has made monitoring tracks impossible and is pretty frustrating, any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Dennis
Logic Express seems to like a single source in and out, however you can get around this by going into Audio Midi Setup (Applications -> Utilities -> Audio Midi Setup) and creating an aggregate device with which you can choose separate input and output devices. Then, simply choose the aggregate device as your audio driver when you're back in Logic.
P.S. I assume this is still valid for LE8 as I havent got my copy yet
Good luck and may the force be with you

  • No sound on optical audio input but audio signal is there; mid-2007 iMac running OS 10.6.8

I've connected a digital turntable to my iMac via Toslink RCA/optical and I know the cables and converter are working. In the Sound preferences I can see evidence of an audio signal being received but there is no sound. This setup used to work before I had my hard drive replaced.

Erase the drive then install OS X:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
If you are preparing an external or a non-startup drive, then open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If this doesn't work then the drive is probably bad or some of the new RAM you installed is marginally defective.

  • Audio input, follow up Q

    I was looking at http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/AudiophileUSB-main.html
because I've had good results with M-Audio products and their prices are reasonable.
I've got a M-Audio usb for midi input and a PCI card for both midi and audio in/out.
The midi connections on the Audiophile USB and setup in AudioMIDISetup I am familiar with.
However this is my first venture into having to work with usb input for audio.
Looking at the USB Audiophile I think that the analog audio from my mixing board goes to analog audio in of the Audiophile. Now this is were I get a bit unsure: does the audio out of the Audiophile goes to a pair ( L/R ) monitors?

Thanks to your very patient help I finally resolved my misunderstanding about getting the audio in/out.
Therefore there is no need for me to purchas the usb Audiophile.
I can use my Roland VS1680 hard disk recorder's optical in/outs, spifs, or analog. I've never used the optical feature because I never had an device that would accept optical audio data. Now I can use it with my iMac.
I use the VS1680 not only as a hard disk recorder but also as a mixing board.
I certainly appreciate all your help and especially staying with me here.

  • Low Audio Level for USB Audio device

    Hello,
I'm recording a voice over for a keynote presentation.
-The internal mic records just fine, but when I use an external usb mic, the level into keynote registers very low.
    - in the system preferences the audio input for this exteral mic is perfectly fine.
-the mic has been tested in a pc and records just fine at a good level
-the same thing happens when I run a mic through a mixing board and use the line in on the mac...it shows up fine in audio settings, but has a low level in keynote.
    any ideas?

I'm glad you mentioned the preset, Silal. I kept meaning to bring that up, but forgot.
Set Preprocessing to None. That will keep high level short duration sounds, like drums, etc., from overtaking your dialog, and crushing it.
The way DIALNORM is intended to work, you set it to the average level of your dialog from your editing app. If you're working in FCP, then that might be something like -12. That setting will cause the player to attenuate the level so dialog is attenuated by 19dB (-31 minus -12 = 19dB of attenuation by the player).
That, in turn, allows the ridiculously loud music and nat sounds in the film soundtrack to sound "more natural", as they blast your ear drums into bits. "More natural" means "much louder than dialog, just like they are in real life".
Bah, humbug! Let me hear what the talent is saying. I don't care if I can hear every nuance of that rock ballad, I just want to be able to follow the story, the plot.
Hey, I'm an old dude, you whippersnappers.
But back to the point, by setting DIALNORM to -31, the player works out the math like this:
    -31 minus -31 = 0dB of attenuation
So, your level should be exactly what it was before the compression/conversion. Why it isn't is a mystery, still.
